NEW Samsung Tab S5e 10.5inch AMOLED with Android 9 Pie - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Guides, News, & Discussion

Finally, something to upgrade from my original Android 6 Tab S 10.5! I'm guessing this quick Tab S5e release so soon after the Tab S4 is probably because the Tab S4 hasn't been a big hit. I also believe the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor is definitely an upgrade from the Tab S4 anyway. I just don't see where they put the fingerprint sensor. Is it in the same place as the Tab S1 10.5, or is it in the place where the Tab S2 and Tab S3 have it. Anyway, I'm standing by for this one to be available.

Update: Apparently the fingerprint sensor in in the side power button. Interesting...

If it were not for the provision of cameras in vertical format it would be a good option.

This looks to be on my list. Have been looking at the S4 but at odds with the price. Fingers crossed it ticks all the boxes (camera position not an issue for me) and can get a keyboard for it and i will probably go for it.
Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk

But it has no headphone jack. Blah. I'd rather wait and buy a used Tab S4 than reward Samsung bean counters for such stupid behavior.

I am happy with my tabs t800, the motherboard is starting to fail but for $ 40 on AliExpress I have a tablet for 4 more years ?

I have to admit, i have had my T800 since pretty much launch. Its been used daily and took everything i have thrown at it (and it still does). Makes me wonder if a brand new S4 would offer the same?. Its one of those products that never really gets matched, so a good replacement is probably pie in the sky. Nothing lasts forever.

Does the Tab S5e have UFS or eMMC storage?
I have the Tab S 8.4"; and I was looking for a larger device: Tab S4 is too expensive for 4G ram. I was wondering if I should wait for this to come out or get a refurbished Tab S 10.5 from Amazon.

In my case I do not plan to change it, if one day I die I change the motherboard .. it is easy to change and cheap ($ 40), also when the developers fix the camera failure lineageos we will have 15.1 and 16. I now have RRemix 7.1.2 and I'm perfect.

I should have UFS .. But I would not even think about it ... precisely the big problem with the tabs is the failure in the EMMC.

The only real issue i have with my Tab S is performance. Still running everything as stock, would you recommend Rooting and a custom Rom?. stick to what i have if i can make it a bit sharper, just seems a bit tired.

My performance issues stemmed from Firefox. I replaced it with a Chromium-based browser - Brave Browser specifically - and I'm good with interactive-1.3GHz.
You can try rooting, uninstalling the bloat (Knox, Hancom, Kids Mode and some more), tweak your Low Memory Killer (the default LMK for Marshmallow keeps a significant ram unused). When you occasionally need high performance, you can change the cpu governer to performance, or userspace with 900Hz as low. Note that both of these will consume a ton of battery when the device is idle.
In my experience, I tried Nougat custom ROM, but still preferred the stability (Xodo in particular) and camera of the stock ROM, besides the fact that the stock rom rotates the screen in under 2 sec, while custom ROMs require about 3 sec for screen rotation.
I also discovered that if you have the exynos chipset with BIG.little, then the per-clock performance (and overall power consumption) of the BIG cores is about 50% more than the little cores. And I am currently happy with the little cores alone! It's also the case, that I keep the device plugged in like a laptop. So, the device isn't going to get out-dated any time in the next 2 years either, for the basic use cases of reading and browsing!

I use RRemix which is based on lineage 7.1.2 but with more customization, to improve the sound use dolby atmos since it is a bit lower than the stock, for the camera I use Gcam, as Launcher I use Nova and I have the animations deactivated in options of developer, and the keyboard I use the Gboard in black. The gapps use the peak version without Google assistant that only consumes RAM .. This way I am very fluid and with more than 1.5gb free of RAM, in summary it is fluid with little battery consumption and without heating. Perfect.
Remix is updated every 2 days with the improvements that come in lineageos and always has the latest security patch.
ROM:https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...om-resurrection-remix-n-sm-t800-wifi-t3606243
Extra to improve the sound of RR I recommend flashing for twrp dolby atmos, automatically disables the Audiofx and it shows a lot the improvement in quality and volume.

I also recommend using GCam has better quality than the RR stock.

I am waiting for a tablet from Samsung with a bigger display than 10.5". They pioneered 12" tablets (I am still sorely missing my Note Pro) and they have left this segment to Apple...
I liked the S4 (after the stupid 4:3 aspect ratio of the S2 and the S3) but the virtual buttons (which I don't mind at all by themselves) in the same 10.5" display size mean that the actual usable real estate is most of the times actually smaller than my Tab S 10.5 LTE.
About the S5e, I *hate* the metal back. Glass is OK, soft/rubberized polycarbonate (like in the S1) is the ideal, both in tablets and smartphones.
All in all, the S5e is a quite good tablet (good specs and features, great display and weight etc) at a pretty good price (especially in a few months) but due to its size and the metal back I am not getting it.
I am just glad that the S1 is unbelievably still going strong (acceptable performance, which were never really great anyway, and SOT still a tad over 4 hours after more than 4.5 years!).
If I were forced to replace it before something really suitable finally comes along I would most probably get an S4 or S5e, depending on their price at the moment.

Root for Galaxy Tab S5e?
I haven't had a Samsung Android device since I got my Google Nexus 10 in what, 2012 I think. Is there any chance there will be a forum page created and development started for my newly acquired Galaxy Tab S5e?
I'm really not used to having a non-rooted device! The bundled crapware alone makes me a bit crazy...
Thanks!

I just saw an S5e at Best Buy. The form factor is excellent. It sucks it doesn't have a headphone jack though. I can see myself buying one of these tablets if they work fine (someone already reported issues with WiFi antenna). It's about time. The Tab S is just too slow for anything but streaming video.

I heard that this fingerprint sensor sucks too much...
I have both of them. The finger print sensor and camera make the OP2 IMHO.
Maybe test again with oos 2.1.1 instead of 2.02
Verstuurd vanaf mijn ONE A2003 met Tapatalk
If you check the latest comparison of OPO vs Nexus 6P on the same channel, 6P isn't doing great either. Its faster mostly in browser tests, which is due to marshmallow. OPO with CM13 is better than any 2015 flagship
Nope, this video uses a lower version of OOS and the Oneplus 1 is using cyanogenmod. Test both the device with CM or OOS, and you'd see how much better the OP2 is.
Oxygen OS2 is really holding back the OP2, i read that they hired many of the Paranoid Android team, hopefully they'll add in some of the great stuff from that ROM, because compared to CM this ROM is sh**. My OPO with CM was a beast when it came to speed and customization. I only upgraded because i needed a dual sim phone.

Me too, but hope to have a CM rom someday soon with fingerprint, laser focus, etc. and will dump this sh***y OS for god's sake
I have both OPs and 2's FP scanner and better camera are significant improvements but the superior display, capacitive keys with real backlighting and dual sims make it so much better overall. It's fast enough and will only get faster when MM arrives.

Do you think so? I don't have hope for this OS... Maybe it will be a little quicker, but I don't trust Oneplus's devs. Just see how they fu**d up the dual sim stuff with latest OS update 2.1.2; then imagine how they can break everything with the MM update
I really don't get why people are saying that Snap 810 is super hot. I turned off thermal control, and still my previous phone (i9505 - Galaxy S4) WAS WAY HOTTER than OP2.

Dual sim working fine for me on 2.1.2. FP was working fine on previous OxygenOS and since 2.1.2 meddled with it I assume a future update could fix it :fingers-crossed: When MM comes out for OP2 it'll support Imprint so apps will be able to take advantage of the FP.

Which is precisely why we have XDA now innit?
Optimisations on stock kernel and possibly CM could be better if stock becomes utter trash, right?
I've seen devs do some pretty rad things - this phone isn't even using its hardware to the fullest yet.. Soon..
For now, killed the hype totally

Overclockable?

Will this at some time be overclockable and also be able to adjust temp limit?
Im just thinking since the chip is msm8974aa it is quite unusual. Googled and only found zte nubia z7 mini with the same chip.
If it will not be possible i will sell this and just buy nexus 5 and hard mod a new back and put a fatter battery there.
Now i see that oneplus 2 does not even have undervolting. Propably selling the phone once i get it.
Its MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 Processor

I have noticed that the little stutter is consistent not only in gaming but throughout the whole system. I even turned asphalt 8 to medium and still it lags like hell. Asphalt 8 is my only casual game that i play.
I have location, sync etc. Turned off and still it's pretty consistent.

Is the Nexus 10 still a worthwhile tablet?

The Nexus 10 was the first 10" tablet I had and it was the most enjoyable tablet I had. Haptic feedback, camera flash, two decent sounding speakers, and the screen size were all pretty nice bonuses.
I'm looking to buy another tablet in the future. Ideally, I want 10" or larger, and the ability to use custom ROMs (does the N10 still have official Cyanogenmod support?) or even better, native Linux. The Nexus 10 seems pretty affordable nowadays, and as long as I can throw a clean ROM onto it (AOSP or CM), I'd be pretty good to go.
So, would a Nexus 10 be a good investment nowadays, or is there another tablet that would be a better choice?

I bought mine in Dec. of 2012 and still use it every day. I've tried a lot of ROMs in the last 3 years, but I keep coming back to the rooted stock ROM (link below). It 's still getting regular security updates and just seems to run the best. I find no reason to go out and buy anything newer, this tab just keeps going and going. I say Go For It!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-21-11-2014-t2948203
I think N10 is still a good tablet (I'm writing this on mine), especially if you don't intend to run modern games on it. For browsing , youtube and occasional simple productivity tasks - it's just great. Mine is 2 years old now and I think I'll keep it for another year at least. Will try putting marshmellow on it though, I'm just curious like that
As for alternatives, I'd say Sony xperia Z4 tablet is by far the best tablet out there right now. A friend got it recently and it's just great, really. Light, thin, great display (same resolution as N10) and battery life. And it has microsd slot. And you can even put AOSP on it, becase Sony provides binaries. Check it out, but it's probably like twice the price of N10.
My Nexus 10 is two years old and I still love it, although it's starting to chug a little more when switching between apps. I don't know that I would buy one today unless it's brand new (probably hard to find these days) and you got a decent deal on it.
I like my wife's Nexus 9, particularly the aspect ratio. I just wish it had that extra inch of screen space.
My N10 runs fast and smooth. I use stock rooted rom. It runs best on the stock rom.
I bought mine two months ago used. Running stock 5.1.1 and it's a bit slow but for what I use which is solely for media consumption it's great. Nice screen real estate and loud speakers.
Yes! I bought mine used aswell , and Running Marshmallow on it very well, very smooth and fast. Nothing to complaint.
I've had mine for a number of years now. Overall I've been pleased with it until recently. I'm having Wifi issues that drive me crazy. Also, it appears there's a major problem with YouTube that causes the tablet to reboot after only a few seconds of video. I get the feeling the device is just not getting the love from the Google developers that it needs.
My parents own one and have the known " yellow smudge" on the display. I would consider a different tablet.

Hi, im using OmniRom from scanno, you can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066)
There are nice differences yes, I find it smoother and with also better battery life. It works very good in every task I do. Although, I find stock 5.1.1 pretty good also but sometimes I had some crashes on youtube and slowing down performance when using it. If you have more specific questions I would be glad to answer if I can. You should try the ROM !!!

BUT then I flashed OmniRom 6.0.1 and now im able to play 1440p youtube vídeos without trouble!!! The difference onthis display is exquicite. Oh ! well if it isnt a trouble for you I recomend you continue using 5.1.1 , its a very good ROM on performance. But if you wish to try on watching 1440p youtube videos I would recomend you to try OmniRom 6.0.1 version! So you still get Omni features and stability and also with Marshmallow features and battery managment.
---------- Post added at 08:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ----------
There is also a new AICP build with Marshmallow 6.0.1 running well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-aicp-11-manta-t3280678
So that you have other options to enjoy
Got mine as a Christmas gift from my wife three years ago. I still use it pretty regularly. The only issue I have is the battery isn't what it used to be (to be expected after 3 years).
Interestingly enough, I still use an AOKP PUB build (Android 4.3, I think - don't have it in front of me) because it was one of the last builds with the ability to have a true tablet UI (back/home/recent buttons on bottom left, status bar/notifications, etc. on bottom right).
I'll probably keep it until it's completely dead. But I'm not sure I have a real need for a tablet. If I'm ever in the market for something else, I'll almost certainly buy a Surface or some other laptop/tablet hybrid.
When I bought my N10 back in early 2013 I thought I wouldn't use it much.. The only thing I regret is getting the 16GB version. I don't think my Note 2 - launched approximately the same time - has been keeping the momentum equally good and it has been upgraded to a N4. But the N10 is aging like wine and I'm impressed to see mine still going after will these years. Would I get a "new" one today? Probably not. But I don't feel a need to upgrade either.
Also as rodeojones writes above.. Do I REALLY need a tablet? Probably not. My N4 is big enough when I'm not at home and when I'm home I usually use my desktop computer. But AICP 11 is working very well...

Is Pocophone best choice?

Hi all Im thniking about to buy this phone.Development is amazing.Price is also verry good.Problem is that I read a lot about issues with screen...Bleeding,touch issue,Polarization problem...Lot of people say this is best choice, but lot of them even dont own this phone.I want to ask people that already using Poco.Is this good choice and issues are really that bad?Im thinkig too about Mi 8 but he got not soo big development.BTW I dont want to use Miui,Im thinking about AOSP or Lineage Roms...Are the newest production units of Poco better or all have same issues?
As a Poco user, my only issue is touch response, although it's not so noticable anymore and it's improved with every update. I have to admit, xiaomi had enough time to fix this completely and it was a little annoying. I never had issues with screen bleeeing etc...
I was always a fan of Aosp/LOs roms, but I have to say, Miui became a better OS for Me. Aosp pie has a variety of stupid and illogical solutions, and my opinion is that Oreo was far better. Nowdays, Miui is more customizable, it's faster, it's more visually appealing...
The best you can squeeze out of this device is to use debloated Miui rom, be assured.
Poco's only advantage over Mi 8 is the battery, and there the comparison ends, depends on your needs...

Well different people have different opinion! According to my opinion works very good and fast, global is okay, handy extra functions like double tap to start screen and holding a digital button to close screen.
Miui is terrible, just like the own cloud and backup. Please just use Google standards. It took a long time to find a calendar reminder that works okay with miui. Own calendar has no snooze etc.
The price is very very good and happily no glass back etc.
I have the Global version (made in China).
No issues at all with performance and no screen bleed. If there are touch issues, I haven't noticed them.
There is a really annoying issue when wearing polarised sunglasses - the screen when used in portrait will be completely blacked out by the sunglasses - you will need to use the phone in landscape to view it. Unsure why they decided to do that - very stupid decision.
Ok thanks for your answers. As you are users of Poco how would be your choice today?Still Poco or Mi 8 or maybe another Phone?

I would try to find cheap Mi 6, which was the best phone Xiaomi ever made up to now, I sold mine and made a mistake. Fast as hell, excellent developement, good battery etc, no notch, front fps etc....

Is touch problem(ghost touch) or aim stuck still there ?

I am thinking of buying Poco F1 in Big billion day sale (most probably in September).. But I have heard a lot of ghost touch issues and aim stuck issues in pubg ..
Just wanna know is it worth buying in September and is the touch issue solved ??
ps: have no issues with notch
ghost touch, touch lag and every touch issue you can imagine and it varies according to the vendor/firmware and kernel used.......look for another brand and save your money.
Buy 2 and give one to someone you love.
Yes, full of ghost touches and freezes. better buy one+ or samsung or anything else.

My device is from the August (if I'm not mistaken) batch of 2018 and had problems with freeze that was resolved after beta 9.3.x. Currently I only have problems with ghost and only on AOSP / LOS based customs roms. According to some users, lots of 2019 do not suffer from touch issues, I recommend that you do a lot of research on Poco on Telegram groups before making a purchase.

Tried yes, did not solve, is a problem of firmware + vendor + kernel. I'm in the last NitrogenOS and ghost problems are very few, I can live with them. But if you intend to stay in miui you will not face any touch issues, on my device, at least in miuis or custom miuis I have no problem, only in customs nosp / los

well i honestly think that it has been issue with some faulty devices from certain batch. to be more specific
- I did face some non responsive screens on certain kernels! , like TWISTED LOOP kernel where screen don't accept your touch until you wake the screen up again! but then Twisted loop developer changed NVT touch drivers! and it was just fine! , so this made me think that there has been DIFFERENT BATCH of POCO and DIFFERENT drivers were given in various Version/builds of MIUI ( developer rom/ china rom / eu rom / global stable etc) so you are getting mix reaction! .. you may get better visibility if users starts mentioning their current and / or previous build numbers etc.
- on youtube I saw video, where when Device reboots word "POCO" (in yellow / background black) appears! where my poco when reboots word "POCOFONE" appears! , so then definately Xiaomi had different standards for different market. I flashed many MIUI from 9.6 to 10.0.0.3 and various custom roms, "POCOFONE" never changed to something else!
however! i think you should base other factors also while purchasing this device!
-I didn't like the LCD screen! the viewing angles arent that good! so if you are a gamer! you may not enjoy to fullest, but then MY other fone is Xperia XZ an SONY Bravia engine is something out of this world! which definately affects my feelings for poco (where the display screen in concern) , i had to use KCAL to enrich the colors! , since CUSTOM ROMS have now LIVE DISPLAY feature which allows you to change color / saturation/tint of your screen, its very helpful and just make the eye watering process slower if i am watching Netflix
- NO STERO speakers and the earphone volume in my dictionary is LOW!, had to use kernel settings to boost it. and even after that i find it not satisfactory! I always have to skip 10 seconds back button to hear the dialogue again in a movie
- plus point is sd845 processor never lags! the 6gb of ram is just amazing, your device is always ready to process more and more! but it does get warm... and warmer to level that makes you feel nervious

its not that bad for this price range! One+7 is too expensive with no SD card or headphone jack! perhaps these things are nominal for others but its a deal breaker for me!
