[ROM] LineageOS 15.1 UNOFFICIAL - BETA8 (2018-10-22) - for the XZ1 / Poplar - Sony Xperia XZ1 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Othe

Developer and XDA member modpunk is working since about a year on his LineageOS 15.x release for the Sony Xperia XZ1 compact (codename Lilac) and shared his work with the community in his thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/development/lineageoslilac-t3745215/ in the XZ1 compact area :good: Beside the community with theire feedback, he gets support by the developer derf elot and together they are currently working on a LineageOS 16.x release for the XZ1 compact. So for now the LineageOS 15.x support has stopped to concentrate on the 16.x version.
As a XZ1 (none compact, the big brother, codename Poplar) user, I hoped to get their work running on my device too. And yes, it was possible, so the Lilac releases will be converted to the Poplar in future with a modification! And directly here is a via TWRP flashable zip-file that you can use :victory: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397935770 <-- DOWNLOAD Based on the latest release. Done by derf elot and modpunk.
Keep in mind that you need the latest Sony Oreo firmware flashed before (more instructions and download link in derf elot's comment, newflasherv13 by munjeni is already included in his upload), an unlocked bootloader, TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-t3727602/ and do a clean flash
Most users will protably need some Google apps, so pic them from here https://opengapps.org/ For this release you will need ARM64 -> 8.1 -> what ever you like (I am fine with aroma, but to stay as clean as possible choose pico)
Do not reboot between the installation of the OS and the GApps. To get it work, only boot the first time with both things flashed.
To enable full root access flash this LineageOS addon https://mirror.kumi.systems/lineageos/su/20190304/addonsu-15.1-arm64-signed.zip You need than to activate root in the developer settings. I mostly need this to adjust my cpu, gpu and memory with Kernel Adiutor (example in the screenshots) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor
When modpunks 16.x version will be daily useable, I will open up another thread like this one, to get his next XZ1 compact release also running on our XZ1's.
If you like to do your own build, you can just follow our conversation on this page https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/development/lineageoslilac-t3745215/page74 , where derf elot also posted links to Poplar repos on his github.
https://github.com/derfelot/android_vendor_sony_poplar (instead of android_vendor_sony_lilac)
https://github.com/derfelot/android_device_sony_poplar (instead of android_device_sony_lilac)
Screenshots made after a clean installation, without GApps. So the system was as naked as possible. It took about 10,23 GB space. Hope this helps you guys to compare with the stock rom

Hi there,
thanks for opening the thread Just a couple of things to note:
1) This is not a modified lilac ROM of course, rather built from the same shared device trees for xz1c, including device-specific changes/additions for poplar (see sources above)
2) You need to be on the latest _O_ FW to use (that's 47.1.A.16.20). You can find instructions how to update your FW in our xz1c thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75455106&postcount=2 If you don't have it anymore, I have uploaded the fw to AFH: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397914082 If you are on P, it is likely not to even boot (untested). If you are on a different O FW than the latest, the camera likely won't work.
3) Use the TWRP that is linked in the OP here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-t3727602 and not one modified to work with P
4) A full data format is needed before you flash (not just wipe)
5) Please report if something doesn't work. It works fine on my poplar, but it is merely a testing device for me, mainly sitting on the desk 99% of the time so I havent stress-tested it.

Can I have some questions?
First of all, since you said we need to use latest STOCK firmware, does that mean that we cannot enable camera 2 api with this rom?
And also, does this rom support project treble?
Again, thanks for your development!!

yes, only stock camera features are supported, this is not SODP based. We did however include the stock camera app including slomo etc.
as for treble, in theory it should, but haven't tested.

Camera 2 api is supported.
Project Treble is not. (As far as I know by searching modpunks thread.)

not raw however, for example.

Yup, raw not, but it was also not supported in Sonys fw.

COOL, this is what i need for my xz1 !!! Lineage
Will it be in the official lineage download page or just some shady/private builds?

If you think my private builds are shady, feel free to build it from source yourself
There was no easy way to go official for 15.1, but with 16.0 that should be a possibility.

I still wait for feedback of some users of this "shady" build

No offence man, its about transparency of the process. Not sure if my machine is "strong" enough to build it from the scratch.

hi, thanks for your effort.
QNS: since CarbonRom has official poplar builds, is it possible that you could use its device source repo?

They should be practically the same, since the CR repos are based on the lilac/modpunk ones. Anything missing? I just haven't added support for dual sim at this point.

didn't know CR based on xz1c too, LOL. just though if could based on CR, would reduce lots of effort for this.

Sorry for the late reply :crying:
So the result of trying was, yeah of course I couldn't use GCAM since CameraAPI2 was disabled, and some GSI roms booted well while others didn't. I think it's device dependent, but this means that kernel and vendor for this rom is treble-prepared. :good:
Rom was stable, but SIM was removed at the time I tested so I cannot sure about the network. I'm planning to try it again later this week!
Aaaaaaaand as always, sorry for my bad english :crying:

Please update some screenshots
And will this rom support Google camera? if it is possible, please test it too. Thanks

Right, it's actually possible that I disabled the overlay that enables api2 in this build. I used to do that because I didn't like the Snap (LOS camera) interface with it enabled Now that I only use the included stock camera though, there is't really a reason for me to keep it disabled.
edit: no, sorry. that's just an overlay for snap itself, shouldn't have any effect on other cameras.

What is XOSP?
XOSP is an after-market firmware based on CodeAuroraSources (CAF) destinated for a wide range of Android phones. The name stands for the Xperia Open Source Project and the project was initially created by @nilac for the Galaxy S+ (his old device) years ago when back then the ROM was called S+ Reborn. The vision was to create a minimal bloat free ROM which included Sony Xperia specific apps and various tweaks users would expect from a custom ROM.
S+ Reborn became a success and was eventually ported to different devices so from there it was rebranded to XOSP. Calin worked on the project for 2 years always trying to improve it. Eventually, Because of the fact Lollipop was buggy on his Galaxy S+, he decided to take a break from development until he got his hands on the Zenfone 2 in 2015 and from then he started again the development of XOSP and continued it ever since.
How do we release updates?
We release new updates for our Official devices each week by providing Delta updates to the users,so maintainers of the other devices can do the same as well if they want to keep up with the changes. We will make full zip releases only once a month except special cases like for example XOSPDelta is not working or something like it.

It's explained right on the top of the first post.
To be more precise:
Compiling this ROM was my goal for long before @nilac abandoned this project. I had a Zenfone 5 these times. There were sources available, so I just wanted to compile it end enjoy using it. Then, the Zenfone broke. I switched to an old LG L5. And I tried to port XOSP to L5, but I was afraid to seek for help on XDA. I thought that no one will be interested. LG was slow as molasses. So I bought a Meizu M3 Note. This model has MTK SoC, so I couldn't even install a custom recovery. Then I exchanged ( ) it to Le Max 2. I tried to port this ROM, but I couldn't find right device tree. Meanwhile the XOSP died. I didn't know that, because I haven't touched its sources since LG. This week I realized that XOSP was abandoned, but anyways I asked for help on XDA. I ported it, and now it works. That's good, but I can't say that is fully usable. I mean, I use the ROM on my x2, but it's missing some important security updates. I like security updates. They make me feel more comfortable when surfing Internet on my phone. So, again I have to do something harder than I assumed:
It appears that now I have to merge security updates to the source, so I can say that it's done. That's the whole story.

I've just charged so it'll drain by night. It's about 10% in 10 hrs(screen off, WiFi and cellular on, with GMS waking). I'm not sure how exactly long it lasts, but I'll check when have some time. There is a funny thing called "Battery Adviser". It comes with XOSP apps suite and it predicts approximate battery time. I haven't tried that app yet, but if you're afraid of unexpected "blackout" you should definitely try it.

I think that it could be possible.
Here is a thread on this topic. However, if I wanted to do that, I'd need a working rooted Xperia with stock Nougat ROM.
---
I hope that someone more experienced will eventually help me with this ROM. @nilac and other devs started working on Oreo version, but they abandoned it before it was finished.
At this time, I just want to merge latest patches into XOSP. First task: write a script that will bulk fork all the XOSP repositories.
Of course, if someone is interested, please tell me.

Actually it's more a matter of time, this my project and in the 4 years of development I worked almost all alone on this, couldn't find the right people to work with me, that's also the reason of the project closure.
I tried to find people before arriving to the closure but again no interest was found in it

Project Treble
The most common complaint about Android updates is that they are notoriously slow to release, historically speaking. Worse still, handset support is promptly re-evaluated once new models come along. Consumers have been complaining about this problem to OEMs and Google for years. Fortunately, the situation is changing following the arrival of Project Treble. Project Treble was introduced as part of Android 8.0 Oreo and represents a major re-architecture for the OS framework. The initiative’s ultimate aim is to make updates faster and easier for OEMs to roll out to devices. Treble is arguably one of the biggest changes introduced to Android, but one that consumers won’t even notice as it works primarily behind the scenes. Here’s how it will affect the future of Android.
Project Treble on Redmi 3
Redmi 3 was launched in 2016 with Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 SoC. Though we are late to the treble party but we finally got treble support thanks to developers
Treble ROM
XDA member @WinKarbik & @ariafan built RR & crDroid treble & everything works mostly. Here I'll talk about crDroid-8.1-20180813 treble
ROM NAME: crDroid Android
Build date: 2018/08/13
ROM OS Version: 8.x Oreo
ROM Kernel: Linux 3.10.x
ROM Firmware Required: Unlocked bootloader, TWRP Treble
Based On: LineageOS
What works
Mostly Everything
What doesn't work
Camera can not save pic in full res. Use Cameringo for now

Gapps: https://opengapps.org/
TWRP Treble: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-treble-t3830610
How to flash
- Reboot into TWRP
- Take backup of previous ROM in case you want to roll back
- Wipe system, data, cache, delvik, vendor
- Flash ROM & gapps
Flashing GSI
To flash GSI you'll need
- Vendor & boot from any treble ROM. In this case i'll be using crDroid-8.1-20180813 treble vendor & boot. Link here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903982506
- GSI of your liking. List here : https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
- Gapps (if needed). Link: https://opengapps.org/
- TWRP that supports treble. Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-treble-t3830610
How to flash
- Reboot into TWRP
- Take backup of previous ROM in case you want to roll back
- Wipe system, data, cache, delvik, vendor
- Flash treble-vendor-kernel-ido.zip (AFH link given)
- Flash GSI image as system partition
- Sometimes GSI includes gapps. If it does select reboot system & ignore NO OS Installed message
- If you want to flash gapps & magisk reboot into TWRP again after flashing GSI. Flash gapps & magisk & reboot into system
What works
Mostly Everything
What doesn't work
As original vendor & kernel has camera issue. GSI ROMs will have the same problem.

Hello friend you managed to put Android 9 foot on redmi 3 pro ?
This is brilliant news! I think I'm going to take back my Redmi 3 and start using it again . Unfortunately it is used by a family member now.
I have been trying to find a good article about how to make these unofficial treble projects, but I couldn't really, so I'm not 100% sure what is needed. By checking the first post, I guess it needs a modified kernel and the content of the vendor partition, which contains some kind of binaries for the HAL.
What is the source of these files? Have they been taken from an official Xiaomi ROM (MIUI)? Or are they based on the released (and as far as I know incomplete and buggy) kernel sources which have been sort of fixed by Anik and other members?
I used Anik's LOS 14.1 and 15.1 as well on Redmi 3, but unfortunately they suffered from some random slowdowns and lags for me. I didn't notice this on the official ROMs. So I'm worried that this project would have the same issues if they are based on the same source.

i've tried both of official 14 & unofficial 15 (anik) los. the official lagged much, unofficial had problem with hidden ssid so i didn't get into testing. i'm currently using unofficial rr 20180730 winkarbik. as to this treble said based on los, i don't see any that solves your worry in addition to try to test for yourself.

Note: This is not a ROM based on the ROM shipped with your device. Exynos variants such as International (F), International Dual(Hybrid)-SIM (F/DS), Korean (N) ONLY. In NO way it is compatible with Snapdragon variants including but not limited to American(U/U1/A/T/P/V), Chinese(0/8/6), Hong Kong(0), Japanese(SC-*), Canadian(W) variants.
LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
This it not a GSI. It is built on actual device trees
What's not working?
- Sometimes after setting the brightness to maximum, it doesn't want to lower its value and gets stuck. is fixed only by a reboot.
- The signalbar always shows 0 bars, altho this has no impact or call quality or data.
- HWC is currently disabled
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS .

22.02.2019
Initial release
Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q: I'm on a dualsim variant and (a) sim isn't detected.
A: Try reinserting your sim and rebooting. This wierdly nuff only happens on some* dualsim variants and no one has sent me a logcat yet.
Q: My mobile data (3G/4G) is not working/only 3g shows
A: Go into mobile network settings and select/create an apn, also select 4G as the preferred network type.
Q: How does this compare to GSIS?
A: It's abit better but that's highly subjective. Both have their ups and downs
Q: How good is the camera?
A: Actually,(by my standards), pretty good. Almost comparable to stock. Ofc the aosp cam doesn't have the fancy filtering, features and stuff but by far not bad. Alot better than 8.1 roms anyway.
Q: Safetynet doesn't pass?
A: Yeah, i guess that's a thing. Go into magisk and download some module called props hide or something. Don't forget to run it from terminal. It should work from there
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the CSA2 vendor and fw, and try again. This has been tested. It's prolly something on ur end.
Q: I have another bug; How can i tell it to you while slightly increasing my changes of it ever getting fixed.
A: You can tell me what's going on either here or on telegram WITH A LOGCAT attached(required);if rom isn't booting at all attach /proc/last_kmsg.
Q: I don't know what/how to logcat. Is it really necessary?
A: Logcat or gtfo
Q: How can i support you?
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button;. Send the seal some fish. Seriously. The seal realllyyyyy loves fish. You can do that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

Thank you (and all other contributors) very match for work on LineageOS for Note 9! Is any info, will be future updates for this ROM, or may be push to LOS official support devices?
And sorry for noob question, but what mean "Make sure:TWRP has been installed and functional; you are on the CSA2 based vendor and fw"? If I have LOS 15.1 , can I install this by simple flash vendor and ROM? Thank you.

Yes, but it requires some slight modification, i belive you need to set the manufaturer from samsung to htc in the build.prop and need to pass safetynet. I'm not sure exactly but some people have made it work

No, it won't. This is as good as it'l ever get.
On samsung devices the gear app is made to be used with stock, unrooted roms. Period
Running on 960F/DS. Works really well for a first release. Some issues I've noticed, likely from upstream:
- Phone application sometimes freezes 5 seconds when typing in keypad. Fixed with reboot.
- Notification pull down gesture on home screen gets triggered when adding widgets
- Battery life started off really bad, like losing 1% every 15min doing nothing. Turned off all wireless stuff except calling and its reasonable now. Going to try to narrow down what is causing it.
Thanks for your work, I've been putting off using my note9 until an AOSP rom came out for it.
Anyone got some screenshots?
How do I known if my system has CSA2 vendor and fw...?
I currently have Dr ketans rom working fine which is pie.

2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ

I have not tested it, but I do think so. The strange thing is that VoLTE works for one of my LineageOS users fine in the latest build (even after rebooting), but doesn't work in PE-CAF. Very weird issue

ROM is smooth but VoLTE is not working. You may save yourself from trouble if VoLTE is essential Fn.
Update: It felt way more responsive than LOS 16.
Bug report: File move/copy from Device to PC does not work over usb transfer.
There are a few bugs/missing features that I think are worth reporting. First of there is no option to add a fingerprint to unlock the phone, also fingerprint gestures don't seem to work. Besides that, I've had some problems with GPS signal being lost and regained every minute or so. Besides that everything is working fine! Keep up the good work, and thank you for this release!
Edit: Also fingerprint gestures are not working

Hi, actually I'm not sure. All i did was download the rom and flash it through twrp. How can I check if I'm using oreo firmware? And if I'm not how can I install it? I'm actually trying to find it on google, but I haven't come across a solution.
Edit: Found it, will try installing the oreo firmware. That was a huge oversight from me.
Edit2: Yep, worked. Thanks a ton.

Well I obviously wouldn't call it fixed if it only worked for one boot.
Also, since it hasn't been tested on Carbon, I've removed it from the post.
VoLTE is confirmed to be fixed on LineageOS and Pixel Experience CAF.

INSTALLATION
Put the zip file of the ROM on your sdcard or internal storage, boot into recovery and flash. When coming from stock: boot into TWRP, format data, reboot to recovery and wipe all internal partitions. Then flash the ROM, GApps (if needed) and root (if needed).
Note: There is not going to be a LOS su addon anymore. If you need root, flash a root manager of your choice. No guaranteed support from LOS for this.
When updating from builds, simply dirty flash the ROM.
If coming from 17.1, please see advice below in second post ("UPGRADE LINEAGEOS").
KNOWN ISSUES
WFD is not working yet (waiting for new non-BSP blobs)
Stock camera is not working anymore due to incompatibility of stock library (libimageprocessorjni.so) with new libgui

SECURITY ADVICE
Don't flash ROMs or Magisk modules which set SELinux to permissive or you welcome malware on your device!
UPGRADE LINEAGEOS
I have not tried upgrading the device from 17.1 and cannot guarantee that it will work - you should do a backup just in case. If things go wrong, flash it as if coming from stock (see instructions in OP).
The following steps should work though:
Flash new twrp and boot into it
Flash new rom, opengapps and any updated root solution you use
Optional: Clear cache
Reboot
Note: When updating form Lineage 17.1, you maybe have to once change your preferred network type from 3g back to 4g/LTE.
UPGRADE FIRMWARE
Grab the Sony Stock firmware using e.g. XPeriFrim. You should always flash the firmware matching the LOS build.
Grab newflasher and put it in the same folder as the firmware files.
Read the newflasher original post on XDA for general instructions!
Remove the following from the folder so they won't get flashed:
all *.ta files (keep the one in the boot/ directory)
cache*.sin
fotakernel*.sin
kernel*.sin
system*.sin
userdata*.sin
vendor*.sin
Turn off your phone
Hold the volume down button and attach it via USB to your system till you see LED turning green
Run newflasher from within this directory to flash the remaining files
You can say yes to the first optional step, in case you don't have working drivers installed.
Skip the second optional step (dumping of trim area), it's useless if your bootloader is unlocked already and takes a long time.
How to get root?
As mentioned before, there will not be an official su addon from LOS anymore. If you need root, flash an unofficial solution.
Google Apps
You can download and install the Google Apps from opengapps.org. You need ARM64 and 11.x. I suggest to *always* use the pico or nano package. If you need additional apps you find them in the Play Store.
Open GApps for Android 11 is still in beta. You can download those releases here
MicroG
This ROM doesn't support Signature Spoofing. However we are watching MicroG and check if they provide newer builds e.g. for Android 11.

Thanks @derf elot ! For all your and the rest of the Dev team's efforts.
What can we (the community) do to help get the camera back up and running?

Unfortunately, I am not sure there is much that we can do. The stock library that we need for the stock camera app to work properly (libimageprocessorjni.so) is not liking the new Android 11 libgui. We (also with the help of @j4nn ) tried to fix these issues in various ways, including shimming and forcing the use of the 10 libgui but haven't managed to get it working properly yet. Maybe we'll have a crack at it again at some point, but I wouldnt get my hopes up too much. It also doesn't help that the XZ2/3 series is not getting an official Android 11 update. Opencamera is a decent alternative, although it does lack some of the stock camera options.

Happy birthday. I hope you enjoy
Oh nice, and I just got the device today (new and unopened) but for some reason I can't flash it to a different or use even the official tool from Xperia to "repair" my software.
First thing I'll do after upgrading will be checking this rom.
Thank you a lot!
Hello, nice job.
Smooth fresh install rom+Nikgapps, everyhing works nice,
but time to time phone call was inposible - calling stops in a 0 seconds. But i still was able receive phone calls. After receiving call - i can make a call for few times.Sorry can't provide any logs - use this phone as my main daily device, so quickly return to my previous rom (resurrection remix 8.6.4), where everything running well.

It's just working fine here with opengapps beta. Mostly likely nikgapps broke dialer app.

I also tried Nikgaaps (full version from 12/30/2020) and I don't have this issue. Maybe you used a different version or build.

Rom really smooth & gaming as same or maybe better than stock.
Thank You for the great work.

I have added support for both of these internally, so a custom OEM should not be needed anymore. I know at least of one person where it's working on maple. is it not working for you?

I'm sorry. I just found this option in Settings. It seems to work.
Thank you again for your reply.
By the way,are there any plans to add volte video calling?(This is not a requirement.)
Gesture Navigation (1st option) seems buggy sometimes especially while playing game bottom bar appears in center & (in landscape) bottom screen touch not response.
