Custom roms Hero vs Dream

Don't get me banned but does someone know why rom cooking for hero seems to be still standing compared to dream development? I know that the kernel source is still missing and I asked HTC about kernel src without getting a satisfactory answer (they only confirmed, not more). What are other reasons is hero no topic in the states? Nothing which could be optimized in thw meantime? And don't ask me to contribute, I have other projects at the moment, I'm just leeching at the moment. Any thoughts?
Cheers
I agree 100% in fact i almost regret getting rid of my G1 when I look at there forums However I've not given up yet, I trying to teach myself rom cooking even as speak
Nice to hear, in the meantime looking for madaco 2.4
Cheers

[Q] [HK user]Will the CM7 ROM only available for SGS2 which contain NFC?

As everyone knew that on June,UK will publish SGS2 which contain NFC function, I'm afraid that CM ROM available "ONLY" on NFC version, will it becomes true? Can anyone answer me this "stupid" question?
No one can answer your question because cm7 doesn't exist on the sgs2.
A couple of developer types commented that it should be modular and so very easy to make two versions. As there is already north of a million non nfc phones out there and climbing I doubt that the non nfc phones will become ophans assuming that their intial thought that it would be easy to build two versions proves true. They did allow as to how sometimes things come up that were unforseen. Even so my bet would be considering the number of devices out there support for both versions is likely. All this presumes that there will be a CM mod for the sgs2 which is another question, one reputable developer has said he will begin working on it after exams in early june. Right now there is nothing. There is no source code for the hardware acceleration so the device would not have it until that happens (samsung releases or drops to asop) and considering this is one of the things that makes the phone so smooth it is not a small consideration. My own thought would be that this lack of source code is probably somewhat of an impediment to interest in developing this as the rom would be partially kneecapped from the start.
Thank you very much!!
Now just waiting for the first CM rom on SGS2!!

[Q] Quick Question about difficulty of ICS port from Source?

Once the source is released, how difficult is it to port ICS to the Atrix, i know it probably has different times/difficulty for each device, but in general how hard is it?
Please do not flame. If there is no answer, then there is no answer.

not impossible and possibly easy (though time consuming) for experienced devs. such as those who create Cyanogen mod.
it will happen one way or another its all a matter of time, such as if we get officially supported by CM then we can excpect an ICS built version eventually,
but this is all just speculation
Its not a matter of time, its a matter of dedication! The devs bring us the best things because they CHOOSE to, not because they must. I would be ecstatic for a port, but do not assume someone MUST take time and effort to develop a functional port for me. I hope this brings new life into our phones development because this phones hardware is still on a high tier.

ICS on other devices question

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I didn't see any threads regarding my specific question. I dont get on the forum chat to often anymore so I havent been following the latest news.
I dont know much about developing, infact I know just enough to have my thunderbolt rooted and flash software to it. With ICS on the Gallaxy nexus now being sold, will this open the door to developers getting the software and framework to then apply to custom ICS roms for other devices like the thunderbolt or Dinc2?
I haven't really seen any successful ICS roms out yet. Is it just a matter of time before it is put to work?
Source has been out for weeks, its already being worked on.
so, its just a matter of time then. How are the soft keys going to take affect since all other devices have them already? You think the developers will simply find a way to make that an option to apply or not?

ICS kernel port Question.

This might not be the right place for this, but is anybody working on porting an ICS kernel to the photon? I do not know enough programming to work on a port, but I am looking forward to something happening. The guys over at the Atrix forum are working on a kernel and are getting pretty far quickly. I do know that the Atrix shares some hardware with our Photons, like the GPU, which I have read is one of the biggest drivers that we need to have a proper working ICS or JB port for our phones. Well hopefully this will point some kernel devs to a forum that could have great benefits to the advancement of our phones. Thanks to any devs that may already or decide to work on this kernel.
Edit: Here is a link to their GitHub: https://github.com/CyanogenMod-Atrix/android_kernel_motorola_olympus/
Did everybody abandon us?

Kernel Devs Wanted
I don't think we've been abandoned. I saw that Th3Bill was on Moto's sourceforge trying to get the sources we need, a rep at Moto is trying to help us but they do not have a time frame yet. I also think that once the Atrix kernel is closer to being finished more devs will jump onboard to get the kernel going for our phones. Really I made this thread to get some devs attentions that may have not known about the Atrix development going on. Until then I am trying to learn some C coding and trying to make heads and tails of how the Atrix guys got to where they are. I've only coded in Javascript and for only about 2 years now, so it's kinda slow going, but We Still Have Hope! Also if I can come across a cheap Photon that I can dev on it may help out a bit, I can't really dev on my only phone.
Maybe some useful info.
A PM I got from lehjr over at the Atrix ICS port thread :
"Porting the kernel as it is right now isn't advisable because you may not know if issues are a problem with the hardware being setup slightly differently, or a problem with the kernel itself. We are currently only in a very early alpha stage.
Porting the kernel once it is stable should be much easier, but keep in mind that you will likely have to refer to device-specific references in the GB source to make the required changes, since technical documentation for the Photon and Electrify seems to be very scarce to non-existent, whereas we at least have documented teardowns and a nearly complete schematic for the Atrix as well as a serial out port from the JTAG port. "
I know that this is not new info, but for the programmers that do not know where to start I think this is a step forward in the right direction.
We're getting close. Well the Atrix is getting close.
I keep following the thread over on the Atrix Forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016837 and it looks like their project has come together. They have marked almost every aspect of their kernel as Completed. If we still have any developers that know how to modify a kernel to port from the Atrix to our Photons it looks like the time is almost here. The one thing they have marked as "work in progress" is the fingerprint reader which we do not need. Well thought I would share the good news with you guys. A fully working ICS would be nice. Cheers!
