Look for Suggestions - Custom ROMs / STOCK + MAGISK - LG V30 Questions & Answers

First off, T-Mobile version H932 rooted with bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed.
I was a long time user of Cyanogenmod/Lineage on other platforms in the past and overall prefer AOSP based ROMS that are close to stock. So, I have tried PixelExperience, Lineage, and LiquidRemix on my V30. I like them all but overall I like LiquidRemix the best mostly due to some of the LiquidLounge options.
However, I have 3 things I miss. I could probably do without them but I think my overall usefulness of the phone is better when I have them.
1. WiFi Calling - I have poor coverage in my office until TMO deploys Band 12 or Band 71 in my area. Not on schedule for almost a year yet.
2. OK Google support. I have tried numerous things to get this working on all 3 of the custom roms but it simply does not. Sounds like a MIC volume issue currently in all AOSP based ROMS on the V30. I use Android Auto (with a headunit) and not having this is kind of a pain.
3. Google Pay NFC support. I installed Magisk on all 3 custom ROMS but never could get it to fully pass all the safetynet checks.
As for running Stock. I know it would fix 1&2 above, but if I kept the device rooted and bootloader unlocked I am not sure #3 would be fixed. However, I can deal with that. What I hate about LG Stock overall is the interface, all their crap, and especially their dialer. I previously was side loading APK version of Google Dialer but it is missing the SPAM features and such unless you can flash it. I also sideloaded a pixel launcher and GCAM. But the dialer thing was always a pain.
I am going to try the debloated/magisk 20p STOCK. Anyone using this and have suggestions on how to get it working with Google Pay, Google Dialer, etc?
Next phone, I will probably spend the money on a pixel

Yes, I'm sure it is. The guys doing custom ROMs do great work. But... Does I'm sure none of the 3 things I listed work on it.
Some day we'll get Wi-Fi calling in a custom ROM. One would think this would be more a standard method built into Android itself

I've got a H931 (basically daily driver with us998 20g) and a ls998 that I've used to test various roms and am now experimenting with serious debloating us998 20g on it.
I'm also accustom to Lineage, but as you know, there are not official builds for all devices. While the available roms are good, they are still a bit away from supporting all the basics.
In the meantime (and possibly for longer), just got through debloating the ls998. Now only 27 apps installed. Everything I need is working, very well actually. Looking at debloating even further. Watching to see if there are any ill effects.
It's difficult to determine what is the best, most productive way to go. At this point for me though I think it's debloating a stock rom. Time consuming but I hope worth it.
Good luck with your choice, Cheers

So I am on de-bloated stock with a few mods (google dialer, gcam, pixel launcher. Only thing not working at all is Google Pay. Magisk hide not working to fool it. Not a big deal.

That's easily fixed. Go to set->apps->google.services and delete cache and data. Make sure to hide magisk and any apps u don't want to see it first, reboot. Worked for me.

Can you be more specific? I did what I think you mentioned:
Setup Magisk-Hide to hide from GPay, Google Play Store, and Google.
Cleared data and cache for Google Play Services (I assume that's what you meant?)
Rebooted, checked GPay, and it still says I can't use it because my device is rooted/altered.
Running Magisk 18.1, manager 7.1.1. Safetynet passes (both green checkmarks). What am I missing?

Nope, no Xposed at all, never installed it. Only one Masgisk module (Google dialer). VS996 20i otherwise (installed via TWRP... so stock rooted overall).
I thought I read that we need Magisk Canary now, as 18.1 isn't enough by itself. Another tip was to manually Magisk-Hide Google Play Services? I didn't want to dig in that deeply, if others are able to get by without these tricks...

I don't know. Mine was hiding from Google Pay very well on18.0 and then 18.1 -- until I decided I cared more how my status bar icons looked than Google Pay.
So had to go Xposed route even though I know that can't be invisible from Safety Net. I made the choice on purpose.

Stock rooted US998.
* Battery circle with percentage number inside, instead of TWO stock LG battery icons (wasted space and looks ugly). How complete the circle is also indicates percentage.
* Actual LTE symbol, not silly"4GLTE".
* H for HSPA, not "4G".
* Gradient distinction for both carrier and Wi-Fi strength.
Some are build prop edits, but I'm also running two Xposed modules.

Funny, in that I just tried my procedure on my 2nd device and it didn't work - but still working / worked on the H931...
My guess is that on one, Titanium bkup wasn't installed (installed after enable gpay), on the other, already installed?
will post back if I figure it out.

Go to Magisk forum. It has detail instructions how to pass Google pay.
You have to install old version of Google service frame work in order to make it.
It's working fine on my phone.

Camera problem and general advice

Hi all! I bought the X820 for my girlfriend and I arrived some days ago.
I installed Mokee and SlimROM and both have the same problem: If I pinch to zoom, from the beginning of zoom slider until almost the end, the displayed image is not correct (anfter taking the photo, the saved image is correct).
I don't know if this is a bug of certain roms, a misconfiguration of my setup... I just realized that the problem disappears if image resolution is changed to anythind 16:9. Once again, idk if this is a known issue or not, you tell me.
Other thing I'd like to ask is what is the best rom in you opinion. As I said before, I have installed Mokee and SlimROM so far. I'd like to know what's the most stable and battery friendly rom.
Thank you!
Heyyo, that digital zoom bug is present on custom Nougat and Oreo ROMs for many camera apps. I'm unsure if it's because they enforce camera HAL2 when LeEco never updated to it or if it's the camera shims.
Certain camera apps though don't suffer this issue such as CAMU... So yeah, it's an odd bug.
For most stable and battery friendly? I'd say OmniROM Nougat is definitely that since the focus of OmniROM Nougat is stability and it is pretty decent for battery life, especially if you use Greenify with root and APK profiles such as Project X.A.N.A. battery.
Otherwise? SlimRoms has been pretty darn good for a balance of stability, battery and performance.

Oh also if she wants apps that require passing SafetyNet checks? You'll want to install Magisk 14.3 and Universal SafetyNet fix for the Le Max 2.
I know 14.5 is latest but it's a bit experimental since it has some major changes which still require testing hence I recommend 14.3 or 14.0 stable.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
After Magisk is flashed via TWRP? Reboot into your ROM and then reboot to TWRP and flash this Magisk module
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/themes/magisk-how-to-pass-safetynet-check-t3617017/amp/
Now Google Play Store should show under settings that the device is certified.
Example of apps that require SafetyNet is Nintendo apps and Netflix. There's other games and apps that also require it but not 100% sure which ones but a Google search should reveal a list.

I installed 14.5 and she is using only Netflix (I mean apps that require SafetyNet). I only had to hide root using Magisk Hide and it works fine. IDK if it's just Netflix what is needed to be hidden or other Android apps too but I hid some Android things (Android Shared Library and others) and now even Play Store reports as "Certified" (sadly Magisk doesn't pass SafetyNet test D: )

It's not possible, magisk can't hook into code, only xposed can do that
Magisk can only change and add files
Xposed can only change and add code
You can't turn an xposed module into a magisk module and vice-versa,just because they're both called modules doesn't mean they do the same thing
Huh? XPrivacy has always relied on Xposed (hence the name). Why should it suddenly be different?

Magisk is only a root manger application.
And its modules are nothing but replacement of system files in mirrored system partition created by magisk.
Where xposed can hook Methods and resources.
Never underestimate xposed.
It has great role in reverse engineering of application and customisation.

Xprivacy and Xprivacy Lua are not magisk modules.
XprivacyLua is working well on my 2 x S8. One one Oreo and the other on pie.
The one on pie needs magisk to be able to install Edxposed.
May anybody help me to make Xprivacy compatibility to deny requets of libraries (loadLibrary) on Android 7, please?
Or to make the possibility to ALLOW or DENY "Accounts" category based on PARAMETERS?
How may I refresh Xprivacy to read database again without need to reboot?
Thank you very much.

If you do a search for Xposed, there is a uninstall ZIP file that you can flash using recovery mode that will uninstall Xposed, which will then disable Xprivacy and your phone should be able to bootup.

I think you should be able to disable the Xprivacy "module" from within the xposed app, then reboot. Then uninstall xprivacy like you would any other app, then reinstall the xprivacy APK and it should start with default settings.
XPrivacy was way better than XPL, I don't know why M66B would dump it. I still have it running on my Galaxy S5 with Kitkat, it's not like it needs any updating, it's fine how it is. It just needs to run heh. Anyone know how I could get it running on a recent and supported version of Android (like Oreo) and EdXposed? Is it even possible? I'd like to help to work on it.

XPrivacy doesn't work on recent Android versions anymore due to structural changes in Android, which is the main reason why XPrivacyLua was developed.

Also XPL doesn't run with EdXposed, so it's in a worse position than XP from my point of view. Have to stick with my ancient S5 for now.

In fact many things were changed, but the main obstacles are tighter security (SELinux), how the activity manager service works and how apps are being started. Since XPrivacy is not supported anymore, I am not going to provide more details, but both the source code of XPrivacy and XPrivacyLua are on GitHub, so you can check for yourself.

Netflix and other apps dont appear on the playstore, what could cause this?

I use omnirom atm, se enforcing, safetynet check passes, cts profile matches too, but netflix isn't there, some other apps are missing too.
I tried to install magisk hide, and magisk hide props, tried different finger prints, cleared playstore cache.
I'm out of ideas. Does anyone know what could cause this?
I would be thankful for pointing me in the right direction. I'm thinking of going back to stock right now...its a bit more bloated and one android version down, but at least things work.

Greetings. The problem you're facing is caused because our device supports DRM Level 3.
You can use Netflix, but you won't be able to stream in HD. Just download the app from an external source like apkmirror (here) and install it manually.

Question GrapheneOS experimental version now out for Pixel 6

I found out today that there is an experimental version of GrapheneOS out for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Anyone tried it yet?
It has been discussed a bit over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/root-custom-roms-for-google-pixel-6.4356839/page-2
Also over on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GrapheneOS/comments/r68k08
I have Grapheneos exp on my P6 here. No SIM in it, still messing around. Watching and waiting to see what else shows up to compare (Calyxos) before I commit to using it. It appears to be all there and working.
For those out there running Graphene, how has it been as a daily driver? Any issues that would stop one from running it daily?

I've been using it on a Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a. Only minor issue which I expect would also be on the Pixel 6 is that the Material You theming in Android 12 isn't yet supported. That means at this time, the highlight colors in the system menus are a bland grey colour instead of a bright colour. Daniel Micay, the lead developer did say in the Matrix chat group that the customization of colors will eventually be implemented.
I'm hearing it's very stable for Pixel 6.
Does it include google cam or will it work like stock if i install the apk?
No Google Cam. They have their own derivative cam app.
I have had to install ProtonAOSP over GrapheneOS. MS Outlook app crashing after 5 seconds, even after reset all settings. With Proton MS Outlook works fine. I'm not convinced I'l stay with Proton as there is still a heap on Google stuff in this ROM I don't want.
Proton looks complete, haven't seen anything that bothers me with it yet.

99% of apps work same as stock. Even my banking app works.
Of course you can install the camera app, it will work the same as stock. You do not need to use the GOS stock camera. I use gcam and photos app, and block both network access. Graphene allows blocking at OS level, not like a simple firewall, in which apps, even if blocked, they can still broadcast their intent to other apps.
Most importantly, you can install google play/store and these apps will behave like normal apps, with no extra permissions. To understand how huge this is, you need first to envision the scope of permissions these apps otherwise have (eg in stock OS or any other phone with google services/play installed).
I think grapheneos is the best thing you can have for your pixel. Its a shame not taking advantage of such amazing and secure OS.
A legend has worked out the Outlook issue:
App crashes related to upstream Webview updates? · Issue #105 · GrapheneOS/Vanadium
My wife started getting some apps crashing shortly after they're opened since updating to GrapheneOS 2021.03.19.14 on her Pixel 4. Is this related to what I've been reading regarding Google's bugge...

Worth noting about installing GCam. I also need to install the GCam Services spoof apk. I also make sure I disable internet permission for GCam before opening it for the first time. Tapping on the photo preview icon won't work as Google's gallery app is missing. I use Simple Gallery from F-Droid.

Question Spoofing for unlimited Photos storage

Is anyone aware of a method of doing only spoofing and nothing else for this phone?
There are a few mods available for spoofing. They seem to assume that you're using a non-pixel device though, as they also "Pixelify" the phone with many additional pixel goodies that Pixel phones already have. I'm concerned that it might cause issues as it seems unhealthy to double up on features.
I've used pixelify, so far no issues and works with full size photos, the only kinda annoying thing is you need to turn it off every time you want to use magic eraser otherwise it doesn't show up as an option, as well if the app updates while the module is on you lose the eraser completely until deleting the data storage of the app and updating again without the module on, easy fix tho is just turn off auto update for google photos and update with the module off

I've checked out those other solutions that I mentioned in the OP and it seems like Google has started using a protection method that constantly checks the validity of certain services and dynamically re-enforces them to function as originally intended. So even if you get a mod like Pixelify to work it will stop working within hours.
The devs behind these mods are aware of this protection and have yet to figure out a way to crack it. For now we can't cheat Google Photos.

I got it working yesterday on an old android 8 phone (htc10).
I factory reset, did not login Google account, applied zygisk/universal safetynet fix/pixel features, test that safetynet passes, then did the Google login. Google photos is saying that I can upload unlimited photos at 'storage saver' quality, but when I choose original quality it doesn't take up any space.
So yeah, it might have something to do with the newer protection methods, but for now I'm fine with copying photos to my old phone just for the backup.

Can you try restarting the phone and see if it still works when uploading a larger video? I also thought that it worked on some other phones until i restarted and the settings for the Google Play service resets in Zygisk, breaking the hack. Photos still said that uploads are unlimited, but they still actually took up space in the could.

I also thought that it worked on some other phones until i restarted and the settings for Google Play service resets in Zygisk, breaking the back. Photos still said that uploads are unlimited, but they still actually took up space in the coul

That kind of scares me from restarting xd
I've uploaded ~50G of photo/videos with no problems, but haven't restarted for once yet. I'll try out restarting once I got all my old photos uploaded.

Well of course why wouldn't they figure it out when people post and create so many videos of this spoof/exploit. Dont you think they would investigate then patch the issue lol wow
The OG Pixel gets unlimited original quality storage forever, so any device with the OG Pixel fingerprint would presumably be able to back up photos in Original Quality without counting towards storage.
The Pixel 2 through 5a all get unlimited Storage Saver (1080p) forever.
If I flash the pixelify module, will it work? or will all the other "pixel features" get in the way of my stock android 12?
