Camera 2 API Support - Offical Forum Thread - Huawei P30 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey Guys,
I opened a thread in the offical Huawei Forum in order to try to push a little the better implementation of the camera 2 api. I know chances are low, but if there is enough feedback and participation in the discussion maybe there is a chance for change. So please feel free to contribute to the thread and also share it if you are interested in better camera 2 api implementation.

Cheers

Maybe also support these for a smarter camera app:

Thank you for sharing the links and for the support. I know the chances are low that this is going to change something but maybe huawei pays some attention to the community...

I don't know how much this will really matter in the recent light of the huawei ban, but we received an answer regarding the Camera2api implementation in the forums.
https://consumer.huawei.com/en/community/details/?topicId=6790&showBread=1
Lets hope that the noise made about this topic is enough to maybe move something a a better direction.

Huawei doesn‘t care, I bet. At least Lightroom can shoot HDR DNG with the ultra wide cam...

I wanted to make a comment about this. I just bought the p30 pro here in China. I have been waiting for the emui 10 update. But, I also found on Huawei's website the Huawei Camerakit, which it says encapsulates the Google camera2 API. It requires Android studio version 3.0.1 or later, a Kirin 970 or later, and emui 8.1.0 or later... Wouldn't this mean a developer like the people on here could implement it? Link is developer.huawei.com/consumer/en/Camerakit.
I am hoping you all have an explanation/some enlightenment!

Could anybody share Camera2 API Prob results here for Huawei P30 Lite?

Camera2 API support on the Mate 10/Mate 10 Pro

Huawei has been extremely sloppy in the past regarding support for the Camera2 API to allow third party camera apps to include full manual controls for exposure etc. Pretty much all other phone makers have full Camera2 support at least in their flagship lines but Huawei didn't even include it in the P10. So I'm really hoping that Huawei finally got things right with the Mate 10 / Mate 10 Pro. Would anyone with a Mate 10 or Mate 10 Pro be so nice to run this free Camera2 probing app ("Camera2 probe") from the PlayStore and post the results here? I'm most interested in the hardware level support category (It's either "Legacy", "Limited", "Full" or "Level 3").

Thanks a lot! Unfortunately, it's still only "Limited", come on Huawei, how hard can it be?
And it is still fake "limited"...

Huawei P20 - port camera and master ai?

Hi Everyone! Huawei P20 was just launched today, looking at the specs --- I can't see much difference besides the Camera, do you think its possible to port its camera and so called "Master AI"?
Thanks!
Why only the camera? It should be possible to port over all of the software.
I think that Huawei should really provide an upgrade to 8.1 and all of the new software functionality. Pretty horrible to release a flagship phone and 6 months later simply forget about it.
Update: The camera app seems to be already available in a leak, see

I'm pretty sure the mate 10 will get 8.1 in the next few months

****few months .... ya but in a few months android 9 will be released and maybe we will get it in april 2019! I don't like Huawei updates nor sammy's ... i really hope nokia will release a proper flagship soon... android one is the way....
Mate 9 never got EMUI 5.1 / Android 7.1 that came out with P10 and P10 Pro
Relax, this is the first phone that gets android 8.1+ NNAPI integration and not just a simple 8.1 like nokia and essential did. Basically as the guy said above with the leaks, all of the new features of the P20 are coming to us and that takes some time to implement. Granted our brand new mate 10 pro aka huawei's flagship feels obsolate, outdated and lacking in hardware compared to the P20 series(speakers, wireless charge, bigger sensor, laser) but that will soon change in some part with android 8.1.. Hold your wallets and do patiense like we all do

How do you know all the new features of the P20 will come to the Mate 10?
@tboy2000: Huawei Mate 10 to get P20 AI features with Android 8.1
We have internal beta builds of 8.1 for the Mate 10 (non-Pro Chinese version) so they are being developed.
That being said, with the Mate 9 we also had internal builds of EMUI 5.1, but it was never released.
Most likely time to get the enhancements publicly is when Android P rolls out.

Thanks. So it's not 'all the new features' of the P20. It's just some extra AI scenes. He did not confirm face unlock, super slow motion, AIS, etc etc

Ofc its NOT ALL THE FEATURES of the P20, because some of them are hardware dependent, which Mate 10 Pro don`t have

P10/P10Plus never got Android 7.1, I don't know what world you live in, but in our world neither P10 Pro nor ANY Huawei P/Mate with OEM Android 7.1 exists.

Actually NONE of the P20 AI features is hardware dependent compared to Mate 10/Pro, AIS is a software solution, it just needed to account for OIS which isn't hard. P20 Pro is a different story.

think again the option to record in 960 fps is hardware dependent along with a few other modes
Is it working on mate 10?
Camera was 'ported' (it works simply by replacing hwcamera2 in /product/app/) right after firmware was leaked.
Here's a Magisk module if anyone wants it: https://mega.nz/#!peB21LaS!BS_5OIn6_eG4U8PRZCEzd6wdZCftANdHiIyZbFTiE8k

I saw this thread today
The P20 Camera app looks nicer at least
Hello, I was interested flashing the port however I'm kinda stuck whether if I root my phone (includes unlocking bootloader) will I still be able to receive and flash updates thru the updates checker? Or every time update is installed, I'll have to reroot it again. Recently came from note 3, flashing and doing things in Huawei are kinda different. I bricked my Note 3 several times and used odin tons of times so makes me think twice before doing things bec not much of stock firmware is available for flashing

Pixel camera port?

I googled everywhere, but can't seems to to find anything on it. Is it possible at all or not due to SoC?
I would highly doubt it, mainly because the pixel has 1 back camera and the mate has 3
Could still happen, other phones have more than one camera and have had it ported over, OnePlus 6, LG g6 etc etc but the only Thing that might be an issue it them. Phones have had snapdragon processors as opposed to Huawei Kirin.

Porting Google Camera is much easier from Snapdragon SoC to Snapdragon SoC, yet there are still issues on OnePlus phones cause of the different sensors. I'm afraid it would take someone in the knowledge and motivated to properly port GCam for Kirin, and then you have the problem of the multiple lenses, something GCam doesn't support natively. First and foremost Huawei should just significantly cut back denoising and some of the sharpening, or just offer the option. Otherwise stock camera app is well rounded (minus GCam's awesome photosphere).
Night Signt is what I am more interested in from the new Google cam.

You are absolutely right. Some tweaks from Huawei and the stock camera App is brilliant. There is no need fpr GCam on Huawei especially since Huawei started with those dedicated night modes.
The problem does not seem to be the SOC as Mate 10 pro has a perfectly usable GCam port but the P20 pro doesn't. The problem is with the IMX 600 on the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro as it enables pixel binding technology to capture HDR photos within the sensor itself rather than stacking different shots together. The pixel binding technology relays on the sensor to capture four pictures at once while other HDR technology only captures one photo at each shot. Oneplus uses the same technology on its secondary sensors so If there if any ports are working with the Oneplus's secondary sensor, then it might as well working on the Huawei devices. But If that's not the case, then it's not likely for us to get hands on any workable GCam shortly.
What a shame. imo the Mate 20 pro cam modules are really capable, but the software tends to screw up my images. I mean as mentioned, the sharpening, and the noise reduction is way over the top, and makes the images oilpaintings rather than actual pictures.

but you know, you can download this apk and its working perfectly
Also waiting for this
I tried many ports but nothing worked. Agree with Don.Chen's insight, I also found M20P compatible with some P20P's ports, but not the M10 ports. Miss GC's Portrait mode. Basically hardly any support for Kirin processors. Saw people mentioned Huawei's Camera API 2 is blocked, thus GC will not work for HDR+.
I hope some devs will turn and give it a try to mods gcam to work with our device

You are right, it works ? however it crashes when opening the settings, but it's still something.

Is this from pixel 3?
At least it works . And it's real 40 MP photos with zoom.
I tried one of the gcam version but it didnt work correct, so I deleted it. But i have a feeling that after that my camera doesent work so good anymore, it doesent take so good pictures anymore. Do you think that something like that is possible, or it is just my feeling? I dont have any good pictures to compare between, so it is hard to prove.
No change in terms of quality here. I guess you could do a soft reset? Has anyone found a port for wide angle support? Thanks

Google Camera Support and API control

It is known to all of us that Google Camera with night sight and other features offering a great dealing with camera and sometimes more than the stock camera .But, still, though having snapdragon processor inside, Honor 5x hasn't got any support for GCam. It's very much disappointing and also a matter of sorrow. Will any senior member or developer be passionate about this topic and reveal the matter clearly, please!!?? Thanks...

Support 60 fps for third part programm for filming.

Hello. Will there be 60 fps support for filming for these devices ( poco f1, mix2s, mi8, mi9, all that have a snapdragon 845-855 processor )in your program (FiLMiC Pro, gcam and similar )?
Why do you need in other applications? The fact is that these programs are richest in their functionality compared to stock applications.
Or will it never happen?

The support for 60 fps recording is already official on devices like poco F1. Now it's upto the Dev of a particular app if he wants to implement the same. Gcam for example made available for non pixel devices by community devs rather than the OEM (Google) itself. If the Dev thinks it'll be useful and doesn't require too much effort and won't break any basic functions, he can choose to implement on his mods of the gcam app. Same goes for others.
What you can do now is ask the Dev himself if he can implement such and such features.

I contacted FiLMiC Pro technical support - they said that they would do this quickly and only when the OEM manufacturer provided the source code to unlock some features, such as 60 FPS video in third-party programs.

I read somewhere that the libs for 60 fps were made open source sometime ago. I don't remember exactly where. You should begin by searching the most active threads like the bootloader unlock one.

Yes, ofcourse because as compared to stock camera application Google camera is the best because their image processing software is best, that's why they can produce images like DSLR ,if you think that mi is not good at stock camera because they focus on hardware rather than software...So,camera of mi+gcam=DSLR .. Thank you
