I am unable to add many cities like "Markham" in Ontario Canada, "Purcellville" in Virginia, USA and something I did not face with Samsung or Nokia phones running android!
Any ideas why such a limitation?

[Q] Dell Streak Tmobile 3g

not sure if this belongs here but i bought a tmobile 3g streak and i love it so far. it's running firmware 1.6 baseband gausb1a111100-aws with kernel 2.6.29-perf build number 6267. my question is that i see everyone talking about build number 4917 and i was wondering if i'm running an updated version since i can't install this build.
another question is all my mms come in small, i've tried changing the settings to no avail. if i send them using a diff sms program , chomp, they go out at decent size but return small so i'm guessing the ua string is what i have to change but i;m not sure how to do that. any suggestions.
ps dell streak rocks!
explain to us how you happened to get a "t-mobile version" of the streak, when it hasn't even been released yet in the usa. and the uk one doesn't support t-mobile 3g either, i could be wrong there. Just curious.
Please can you clarify if you are in the US or UK
In UK the streak is exclusive to O2 and direct buy from Dell which is unlocked.
So how did you manage to pick one up with T-Mobile???
Yup, thought tmobile wasnt supported on streak

For those of you who didn't know... Dell did have T-Mobile 3G USA versions of the device in beta testing along with AT&T 3G compatible devices.
There were a few of them on eBay at one point. All gone now though...

he's right, i bought mine on ebay and made absolutely sure it would work with tmobiles 3g bands before the purchase. since it works with tmobile on this side of the pond i'm guessing it's a us version.
if someone can tell me how to get a copy of the build i can upload it. i have not yet rooted but will soon. also any ideas why i get the small mms downloads??
thanks guys.
also, i put up screenshots on this other forum of the firmware and such. here's the link

I can attest to this as I bought one locally thinking it was an AT&T beta but turns out it was a T-Mobile test unit. I sold it to another local buyer who is on WIND Mobile in Canada which also runs on 1700/2100 UMTS/AWS. We tested it with his sim card and it worked perfectly fine including 3G data.

hi,
planning on buying an unlocked version from Dell direct once the firmware update is out. Was wondering on your t-mobile streak, do you get the H icon for HSDPA?
What data speeds are you getting? and is your MMS working ok?
thanks.
In avg I get 2000 down and 700 up, not bad id say. My mms works but the pictures come in very small about 5kb in size. Very frustrating. If anyone has any suggestions if greatly appreciate it.
Ps I'm in chicago

In chicago also, the same for me...I have worked on trying to get bigger MMS, but no luck so far. I remember we had the same problem with the HD2 EU version when it came out. I have tried some of the things i learned from that. I am sure there will be a solution soon.

having the small mms problem always happen to me when i get a phone from the uk and use it on tmobile. it's such a pain in the ass. what does it matter what the ua string or whatever is as. almost all phones nowadays are able to get pics way bigger than 5kb which is why it was imposed on from the beginning. really annoyed at tmobiles stupidity. great service but stupid mms issues.

[Q] GSM/GPRS/3G Coverage and Services in Canada

Hi all,
Im from India and im about to buy my HTC HD2
Okay straight on to my query....
Im planning to shift to Canada to do my MBA from there in the next 8-9 months.
I already know that the HD2 is a quad band , world phone and its frequencies are supported in Canada.
My question is :
What are the Network Service providers in Canada that i can look for a connection purchase when i go there?
Also , if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2.
P.S. its already clear but ill say it anyways. Im gonna buy the Standard HD2 version.
Please help me out ppl.
To the mods : If you feel this [Q] has been opened unnecessarily , then please excuse me as i could not find any such info anywhere in the thread.
Cheers
No help ???
What no CAnadian on this forum to give some info????
please help me out....
Bumpity bump...
Tutorial How-To for pre-MBA level user(s):
Question: "What are the Network Service providers in Canada that i can look for a connection purchase when i go there?
Also , if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2."
Tutorial (for pre-MBA level users only, which having the difficulty in finding it itself):
1. Open internet browser (if you are using MS Windows, it will be the icon with the blue "E" logo of the Internet Explorer by default. If you're using Linux, then likely it will be Firefox by default).
2. In the address bar, type: www.google.com
3. In the Google's search bar, type: canada mobile provider
4. When Google will display the search results, right click on the first link displayed, stating: "List of Canadian mobile phone companies - Wikipedia..." (it will be blue again).
5. Choose: open in new window
6. The new window will be opened, and then, you will find the hidden and very difficult to obtain data about the Canadian mobile providers.
Additional information: to check the data plans, on the Wikipedia page, you have to click each provider's links to go to their pages.
Hope that this tutorial will help you, and you will go to Canada to increase your education level... definitely, you need it....
@spamtrash
Wow... this really shows ur maturity level ....
Anyone can do wat u said u fool...
Im asking the ppl who use the networks in canada
ive already visited all the sites for the network providers...
and like any common buffoon , u will believe wat is stated on the sites....
Ask the fellow man who uses these networks and he will tell u which is better for reception etc....
Im not talking about data plans .... even a kid can look it up...
Im asking for first hand experience...
and as far as ur comment.... looks like u had too much time at ur hands and no brains to come up with that,....
wats the matter ??? no jobs in the UK to keep u occupied???
In the first post, you wrote:
" if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2."
now, you are stating:
"Im not talking about data plans .... even a kid can look it up..."
Emm... it seems that you are the kid, who wasn't able to look it up, first.
What is more and worse, for such "consequence" I have only one answer, my friend:
You have to ask for the psychiatric advice, because it can be or sclerosis, or shizophrenia, both of which can be (in the early stage) treated.
From another point of view: to compare the reception between the different networks, you have to ask the person, which uses two or more in the same time, using different network providers, which in the order, will have to use different MVNO Networks, as for example 7-Eleven will have same range as Rogers.
Too complicated?
I have stated: pre-MBA tutorial, not: Pre-MBA in India, so it can be too advanced for you to find and to compare by yourself.
And regarding my workload, I have some things to do... I have to correct all of the mistakes and compensate the damages caused by the located in India outsourced "helpdesks", basically because of the reason described in the old joke:
An Italian, French and Indian went for a job interview in England. Before the interview, they were told that they must compose a sentence in
English with three main words: green, pink and yellow..The Italian was first: “I wake up in the morning. I see the yellow
sun. I see the green grass and I think to myself, I hope it will be a pink
day..”
The French was next: ” I wake up in the morning, I eat a yellow banana,
a green pepper and in the evening I watch the pink panter on TV…
Last was the Indian, : “I wake up in the morning, I hear the phone
“green green“, I “pink” up the phone and I say “Yellow“
but this doesn't mean that I cannot read and answer some stupid questions to have the fun about the MBA (or: pre-MBA level) in India
P.S. Could you do me one favour? Please do not send me the PM's with the requests for answers, if I will have a time and a mood to go through your version of Hinglish, I'll definitely answer you, bro
@spamtrash
ha ha ha....
youre such a fuking retard....
LOLzzzz
There... hows that for my Hinglish for u ...
Maybe, but... I know the Candian coverage, tariffs, data plans, while... you know where to feed your sheeps, my dalici friend.
ha ha ha....
man dont stop
ur sooo funny
Wow! back to subject - I use Fido at the moment Fido is owned by Rogers it is Quad band GSM. It is a little less than Rogers. I have used CDMA (Bell) in the past but personaly did not like it. There are 3 Major Suppliers Rogers, Bell and Telus. There is a newer service called Wind mobile which has very competative pricing. Not availabe everwhere yet. If your going to a major city try Wind or try Fido "City" If going to Quebec try Vodaphone
HTC HD2will not work for 3g but runs fine on edge on Fido or Rogers (no 1700/2100 bands) but will run 3g on Wind. I have HD2 on Fido and am satisfied with edge
Fido and Rogers give you EDGE, and it works great for me.
Facebook mobile page loads in less than a second running on Opera 10.
Gamespot ( a gaming site ) running on Opera 10 with flash content loads in about 5 seconds. Rogers and Fido are the same company so you get the benefits of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 with no extra charge, that means better coverage overall.
Now if you plan to go with WIND mobile, which is the lease costly choice you must get the T-mobile version. WIND is a T-mobile branch for Canada.
I have both a T-mobile and a HK version. The HK version even though Unlocked will not support any 3G bands in Canada. But my T-mobile version runs with WIND mobiles 1700+2100 UMTS band which is 3G. WIND has great deals but the coverage is not the greatest if you live outside a major city, check the their web page for full coverage.
And the other service providers will not work with any version of HTC HD2/LEO.

Thanks a ton for your feedback man....

Using Vibrant outside US

Hey guys I am planning to get another cheap unlocked vibrant to use outside US, specifically in India. Just wanted some info from fellow vibrant owners who have some experience in this matter
- how is the compatibility with 3G carriers like BSNL, Airtel, Idea etc in terms of spectrum/band
- how are the 3G speeds
- does all apps work outside US as here. Probably market wont. But what about maps and navigation
Well, I'm in Serbia and I have no issues with it All apps are working... You should not have any troubles with it. Of course, apps for US services only maybe won't work.
3G speeds are great for me... I get 4-5Mb/s. But that depends from carrier. You should look what frequencies carriers in India are using and which speeds do they support.
I'm in the Philippines and the phone works fine.
It supports GSM and WCDMA bands, as long as your carrier services within those bands you'd have no problem.
Most if not all apps work except for as mentioned US-based apps which really don't have any use outside the US. Maps works, navigations needs a hacked version which unlocks world navigation to work. Got my hacked Maps v5.8 on Blackdroid.
Thanks for the replies guys. Can you provide a link to the modified maps?

[Q] Canadian gear s not working with indian sim card

hey guys
my friend sent me a canadian gear s (r750-w) which he says was working well individually in canada but after recieving it here did all the usual setup and all but it simply doesnt detect a signal
would be grateful if there are any ideas
thanks
I have same problem. Sim card not working in Pakistan.
US based gsm watches dont work overseas, same goes for the canadian variant.
Same problem with me
I have a Gear S watch (US imported) and now I am using it in India (Delhi/NCR). Indian sim card doesn't work. Everytime I tried to insert the sim card and switch on the device it keep asking me network lock password. I did a lot of research on this and even talk to customer care. They said your software is based on US so indian sim card won't work in this case. In order to make it work you must change the software to indian version.
They ask me to go to service center. Only Okhla samsung service center deals with imported watch from overseas country. The warranty does not valid on imported product. No Idea about cost.
I would like to unlock this watch but due to insufficient time I am not able to visit now. By the end of the August may be I will try and update this post again.
Let me know if anyone has same problem and they fixed out.
Thanks.

You guys should do you home work before buying the watch. Gear S is a dual-band phone. 850/1900Mhz for North America and 900/1800MHz for rest of the world. There is no way you can make it work outside the designated region. Hardware limitation.

There's no problem to fix. The model of Gear you bought has different radio bands than the network you're trying to use it on. The "fix" is to buy a Gear that has the right bands for where you intend to use it.

Unfortunately not , 3 UK, still on 108.
Yeah, I have it. Vodafone UK
EE still sits on 108
Yeh got it here on Vodafone.
So by the looks of it Vodafone are the 1st in UK.
AI filters are now in Video settings. Not many other changes as far as I can see.
Will keep poking around to see if there are any other changes.
tell me, why should it be provider related?
as i understand (coming from OP6, so maybe i missunderstand) the normal firmware will be updated, no matter what provider information you have, as it comes with da different kind of "firmware" package? so everybody should (in a perfect world) get it as fast as the others?

There's the Manufacturer provided firmware (which would be nice to have) and then there's the Carrier provided version with their own "tweaks" in.
The manufacturer (in this case Huawei) will supply it to the Carriers who then add on their own customisations.
It's not unusual

There was popping sound when I started and closed apps like Clash Royale and YouTube but this is gone after 122 update.
What I'd love to know is if this new firmware (122) makes third party launchers much more compatible. Anyone, please?
Sounds like we should get some Sim cards for the fastest carrier update. If a phone is sold sim free it shouldn't have any kind of carrier tweaks
So I brought my phone from 3. But I have a Vodafone and EE SIM in it. Never put a three sim in it. Am I still reliant on three for updates?
