[DISCONTINUED] TWRP Dirty Port For G7 Power - Moto G7 Power ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other D

This is now discontinued since I found out there's a proper TWRP coming to this phone. Leaving the thread & download open in case anyone wants it though, but be warned this is now obsolete and I won't be supporting this project of mine anymore
WHAT WORKS:
Not sure, don't have the phone to test for myself and at this point in time no one has come forward to test yet. When someone does I'll edit this
WHAT DOESNT WORK:
Because this is a dirty port, the recovery will think this is a G7 (if it works at all), when as we all know this is in fact a G7 Power. There is nothing I can really do about this, this is the nature of dirty ports

DOWNLOAD:
DOWNLOAD LINK HERE
I cannot provide any source code since this was a dirty port, so no actual source was used. The only things I used to make this were a G7 TWRP image, a G7 Power boot image, and carliv's image kitchen
THANKS TO:
@Alberto97 for the G7 TWRP image I dirty ported from
Carliv for that Carliv Image Kitchen he made, that tool rocks!

Hi mate, firstly thanks for the effort involved, and the time spent.
Ok, so fastboot booting the twrp.img loads the moto boot animation for a second, which is new for me, then (as usually happens) the bad key message and boots as usual to the system.

no work,

Did you flash the dtbo before doing this? I learned from the G7 Play that you need to fastboot flash that partition right before trying to do stuff with the recovery or else it might not work. If booting doesn't work, if you have a stock ROM backup, try flashing it instead

Download stock firmware for your specific variant of the G7 Power, the lolinet site holds stock firmware zips that should have it in there. Google lolinet mirror firmware and you should see what site I'm talking about

Well it was worth a shot I suppose. Spoke to people in a telegram group for this and they're apparently 99% done a proper build of TWRP for this phone. I'd say at this point just wait for that if this isn't working since I don't know what to do to fix mine

So where is the official TWRP port ? it was said that somebody on telegram was going to release it in a couple of days

BUMP, I wan't buy this phone but without TWRP I need to wait or buy something else... But I never find such good battery as here

There is a beta twrp available from telegram, as mentioned above. In the next couple of days to a week we might see something more official.

Be thankful you have root and not ungrateful about no TWRP release yet. The people that have the Samsung American variants of the SM520 will NEVER get a bootloader unlock, ergo NEVER GETTING AT LEAST ROOT!

Awesome news! I've been stalking g7 power and play.. With Power getting official twrp and today's my day to get a phone I'm going to grab one later on. Happy to get away from my quad core 32 bit Boost G6 play and on to a 64 bit.

So do I have to do something to fix the bootloop issue? Also why is that so? You need to have a bricked phone before you could make a patched bootloader.

wipe data factory reset(data, dalvik and cache)
that fixes the bootloop!
and modifying the bootloader is quite risky, if you do something wrong it could fail to write, fastboot and adb can fail to operate, cauld cause major issues that are un repairable without riffbox etc.. and even sometimes that doesnt work...
looks good, but bugs as above..

Do we need 20 toolkits doing the same stuff? People need to learn what they are doing. With the rise of kits there is a rise in bricked phones for stupid reasons. People flashing cm kernels on non cm roms because they have no idea.
One kit is enough stop reinventing the wheel. Put your skills to something more useful.

That's funny. So you revived a 4 month old Dead Thread for what?? So we could hear your useless stupid rants about a contribution that someone wanted to make, an area which you have failed to achieve. If people don't read and know what they are doing then that is their fault, not someone who wanted to learn and or grow his skills by creating a toolkit. Put your skills to something useful and release something of your own, don't go being critical trying to revive old threads for no reason; and complaining about toolkits all over various Nexus 5 threads. Grow Up!

[TESTERS] Apply Within

I need a couple of testers for a Senseless (both meanings of the word) ROM that I'm putting together. It is nothing too special, but with your help it might be decent. It is not Android 4.0+, but merely Honeycomb.
I'll take the first two people to reply to this post. I'll get them a testable ROM in the near future and they can have at it.
Maybe we can breath some much needed life into this forgotten tablet!
WiFi Error
I have tested your ROM and I think it's very well done! I only have one problem however. After following the Aroma install (I selected to replace the kernel so WiFi would work) my WiFi reports an error and will not connect to anything. I tried reloading the ROM several times and still no joy. I don't see anyone else having an issue with this so I'm wondering what I missed. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Your ROM was my first install from the stock OS that comes from HTC.
Thanks in advance

I forgot to mention that I also tried installing the DoomLord Kernel WiFi Module.zip to fix and it didn't help.
In order for Hive to work you should have Hive kernel installed -- either via Hive installer or fastboot. Hive also requires the WiFi modules that it installs because only they pair with Hive kernel -- and not any other kernel.
The installer asks you if you want to install the kernel and I've never heard of this failing. Are you sure that you selected this option? For 99% of people just pressing [Next] for every question in the installer is the best option.
After the install your Settings->About->Software information->More should look like the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

I suggest that you install again and verify as per above. If the kernel did not flash then you'll be the first second to report this. I don't know why some users encounter problems, but there is a manual method to install the kernel (the hive_x.zip /boot.img file) which you can perform.
To manually install the kernel take the following link to a tutorial on How to flash a new boot.img via Fastboot.

I think you nailed the problem right on the head with the Kernel on my tablet being incorrect. My tablet reports:
Kernel Version
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Sat Dec 3 05:14:25 CST 2011
Baseband Version
1.04.5501.15v2_30.60.550I.10P
Build Number (same as yours)
I did exactly as you prescribed by basically hitting next for all of the options in Aroma and had the same result. I'm somewhat familiar with Fastboot so all I would need is the Kernel.img to flash and I should be good to go right? Maybe the modem.zip also since they have to be mated and it may be that this file isn't flashing as well?
Thanks for your help with this

You are the first to report this, so I'll have to look into why. Both of my tablets are from Rogers. Is yours from AT&T? For now we'll have to rely to fastboot to address your problem.

You will just need the boot.img that is in the / directory of the Hive archive (hive_x.zip). Once you boot the tablet to Fastboot then you just need to fastboot flash boot boot.img.
I don't think you'll have to do anything with the radio since I've never heard of a radio image for the Jetstream before.
Let me know how it goes.
Kernel Issue Fixed
Just wanted to send an update. Your hunch about the Kernel being the problem was spot on. For some reason the Kernel wasn't flashing with the use of Aroma but when I went into ADB it flashed just fine and now WiFi works!
I do have an AT&T Jetstream. I'm not sure why that would be the cause but maybe you're onto something about the baseband being different that may be the cause. Either way I'm up and running now!
Thank you SO SO MUCH for the help with this! Although there aren't many of us left with a Jetstream I share your thoughts about the tablet still having a good value. I hope that someone will be able to help us up the OS to Jellybean or KK someday.
Take Care!
Chad
You can also try Hive II beta -- since it has an updated installer. I doubt that it fixes your kernel flashing issues, but it is possible. I wasn't going to release a beta, but with your situation it makes sense.
Even though you have solved the kernel problem you may still want to try this.

I've done it manually and everything is now looking good, including WiFi.

Sorry didn't managed to catch up again, too little time back home, busy.....
Anyway, @onejay09's open source could shed some light for this Jetstream poor baby, unfortunately I don't know any of it, most hardcore keyword that could leapfrog us are some complex ION thingy worked and forego the something about old_panel_driver from/off something about msm_fb. Hope this helps. Good luck !!!

I will have a look at that source. However, I think that cobbling something together would be a huge undertaking without a working reference Android 4.x+ ROM. Beginning and ending its life in Honeycomb means that Jetstream ROM source was never open.
Being back home must be great, glad to hear.
Thanks for responding, while reading through 109 pages onejay09 said the chipset is 7x3 and not real 8x3 or something. Page 59, in short it's so old. Could this be one of the same obstacles for Jetstream? I don't know. Well, good luck to us all.

SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
You will need:
- Engineering boot images
- Patched version of Odin3 (only AT&T models ?)
- Extract files, and run root.bat with adb on the path
This version of SuperSU is not officially supported. I recommend against updating the APK from the Play Store, or otherwise updating the binaries, unless someone knowledgable has tried before you and confirmed it worked.
If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.

First of all thanks to @Chainfire for helping achieve su and @princecomsy for giving me the odin file and engboot
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device, same goes for everyone that helped.
First file you will need is here http://d-h.st/gsDA
This is special Odin to bypass SHA-256 made by Princecosmy
Second file you will need is
G935A http://d-h.st/lQY8
G930A http://d-h.st/aK2A
This is the engboot. Using @billas since its already uploaded.
Basically once you have these two files open up the odin included and place the .tar in the ap section should only take a few seconds to flash.
After you are back up download SuperSU made for our phone from here https://download.chainfire.eu/968/SuperSU/SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
Extract the files to a folder.
Here it may get a bit tricky for some.
Go to your adb install location. Open a command window where your adb files are located.
Change the directory to your supersu folder location from earlier, and run the root.bat from the cmd.
I am not very good at instructions as this is my first time doing anything like this.
For the bounty id prefer if you just donate to https://secure.savethechildren.org/....C01C/Global_Action_Fund/apps/ka/sd/donor.asp
Makes more of a lasting impact then what i could do with any of it.
Again thank you to everyone who helped!

If you are successful after rooting and can give better instructions please let me know!

You can use it on a day to day basis. Dont try going back it will remove what you have done. The issues if there are any are minor.
And yes it is for ATT S7 edge.
I have a few questions here.
What exactly is going on with this root process? Is it installing a recovery? Will this trip knox? I assume Samsung Pay won't work anymore? Can we finally used xposed? If so, which version?
How can one revert if we felt the need to?

Here it may get a bit tricky for some.
Go to your adb install location. Open a command window where your adb files are located.
Change the directory to your supersu folder location from earlier, and run the root.bat from the cmd.
I am not very good at instructions as this is my first time doing anything like this.
Bounty info: [email protected] / Paypal please
Again thank you to everyone who helped!
We made it fam!
If you are successful after rooting and can give better instructions please let me know!

Who is the bounty going to? As much as I appreciate your efforts I want to donate to all that made it happen.
Will our phones lag? I read on another thread that engboot causes our phone to lag.

Please if anyone gets it to work on the T-Mobile variant..... let us know.... thanks...

The email is for @princecomsy, he is going to get it then split with me. Chainfire said he did not want bounty. Even though i feel he deserves it.
Everyone slowwwww down. Root was just established. As for knox, Verizon, and any other questions hold tight. I'm installing it on my Verizon s7 now

I'll be installing soon too. But I'm doing something first.
While downloading G935TUVS3APD8_G935TTMB3APD8_TMB firmware (just in case) I'm also backing everything up with Smart Switch first. Just in case.

A2017G (European/International Model) Nougat

Hi everyone
ZTE Mobile Germany on Twitter, tweeted the following picture on 25 Feb 4:58am
I am new here and just wondering how many people are aware of this?
Do you guys think ZTE will stick to their word?
This means the update "should" be released in a few hours right?
?

Haha, this time tomorrow we will all be saying its rubbish, and no different to Marshmallow. After all it will still have "do me a favour"

Not the last one.
The one we will get shortly is the same 7.0 update the Americans got. It's going to be lagging aswell etc. After that, we will get 7.1.1 update confirmed.
Please remember that G Model has nearly the same software as the U Model with very slight modifications like volume being quieter and it is always 2 months later due to processing regulations etc.
There is no drawback to use the already existing B15 Nougat system on your G device. Everything works out of the box.
Ahh is lovely to know in advance it going to lag like hell how thoughtful of ZTE.
Thank you ZTE for all your listening, we never wanted stock anyway.
i bet it wont be out today anyway

Supposedly the new 7.1.1 runs much smoother, let's see.. I'm currently running the B15 on my G Model and unfortunately have to confirm the lagging. Everything else about it is decent though, I will probably end up on stock 7.1.1

If you are willing to unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery it's as easy as ROM flashing goes.
You just need the appropriate bootstack and A2017G modem and you are good to go.
I gave up on official OTAs long ago. Every single manufacturer I had, even Google had these "staged rollouts" and somehow I was always the last to get it. A couple of weeks ago I was on the A2017G B03 version with NO OTA to any newer version. Never going to trust OEM otas again.
I do get that, and although I could update to a newer ROM, I sort of can't bring myself to do it.
I had so many phones in the past I'd messed around with, and as soon as you update one ROM it never seems to stop. First you're happy with it, next you're wondering if there is a better one, better features, faster, smoother and on it goes.
I bet many reading this will know that feeling
I really am done with all that, I just want to use the phone, so I'll have to wait I guess.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. Lol.
So, I was wondering if the update section on my phone is broken or something? Because everytime I let it search for an update, it tells me "Your software is up to date.", which is the Build number A2017GV1.0.0B08 on my device, while seemingly everyone else has got B10 or higher on theirs...I mean what the hell???
I don't know if it's something to do with the fact, that I'm from Austria and that we have a different Build history or something like that, but this whole thing is just frustrating to me :crying:

No custom roms for Samsung A10s (AF107F/DS)?!

Hi devs!
I have an A10s with stock ROM (Android 11) as a temporary phone and i gotta say after few days living with it i believe it's the slowest/chunkiest phone i've ever used idk how does Samsung gets away with this kind of crap but i digress, I think if any phone needs the magic of a custom OS is this one for sure, i went ahead and started unlocking/flashing TWRP then realizing that there's no custom ROMs for this phone! i've searched almost everywhere with no luck, any ideas on where/how to find custom ROMs?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you can get TWRP installed, you should be able to use any GSI. @AndyYan has been building LineageOS GSIs with and without built in root; I believe there's also Pixel Experience.
If you want to try out vanilla AOSP check out my guide here; the same process applies for any GSI.
As a last note, please be aware that we have device specific sections on this forum, so you should have posted this thread in the Galaxy A10 Questions & Answers section. We will move it for you as a courtesy, but going forward please use the Search function before posting.

My friend, you're perfectly capable of using Google and the XDA search function. Remember the Forum Rules:

If you can't find it by searching, I probably can't either. I did find this, and you probably could have as well. I'm not saying I don't want to help you, but you need to understand that to make the most use out of XDA, you need to be willing and able to look for and absorb information on your own.

I've been trying to TWRP to install but without luck, there's only one thread about it and it's by @ItzKaguya but unfortunately it's not working for me, here's what i tired so far:
*Bootloader unlocked sccussfully
*flashed both "vbmeta.tar" & "twrp-3.7.0_9.0-a10s.tar" sccussfully
however when i try to boot into TWRP using Vol UP + PWR i get "this phone's bootloader is unlocked" message asking me to press PWR to contuine which turn on the phone normally into the OS
Any thoughts?
Note:
I was running the latest android version on this phone (Android 11 OneUI Core 3.1) but i've downgraded to (Android 10 OneUI Core 2.1) and it didn't work as well, i'm going to downgraded again to Android 9 and try it while waiting for your input.

That is completely normal and will appear whenever your bootloader is unlocked. Ignore it, your device should boot normally.
If you're trying to get into TWRP, hold Volume Up during a reboot until you see this screen, then let go and click Power. The device should boot into recovery.

If you click either one of the Volume buttons when this screen comes up, it should bring up a menu from which you should be able to select recovery mode.
I don't know how to help with TWRP issues as I'm not a developer. I'd suggest posting in the TWRP thread for your device.

It's not responding to these commands i guess since it's not an offical TWRP these kind of things are bound to happen plus i didn't find anyone who confirm it's working.

Unfortunately there isn't any support for A10s (A107F) from TWRP however they do support the older version A10 (A105F) i guess they didn't bother with supporting another piece of crap but thanks anyway.
we already working on it. we got first custom rom booted, but still need some fixes
as temporary solution, you can use GSI with arm32_binder64-ab or a64-ab arch
