Emui 9.1 Current Pros and Cons - EMUI Bugs and Issues

Hi,
I have an overseas M10Pro and I am desperately trying to get EMUI 9.1. I want to know your opinion on how stable the update is and if I should continue trying to get it. I've heard different sides like issues with third party launchers but I've also heard about smoothness improvements.
Thanks guys

Lollipop or MM - what do you prefer?

I have tried both versions of Android on my Honor 7. But now, i have returned back to Lollipop because i had to many problems with MM. Two of my important apps has stopped working after a while. It was not possible for me to prevent that. So i returned to Lollipop and all was working fine. (Need no push notifications)
What do YOU think? What is YOUR experience? And what version of android stays at your phone at now?
Please reports.
I have version B180 rooted, and so far have no desire to update to MM.
I don't see for the time being that MM would offer anything worth updating to it for. All my apps are running as expected, battery life is great, I've removed most if not all Huawei bloatware and pre-installed Google apps, I use another launcher so never see the EMUI interface.
Lollipop does all I need, so for now I can resist the temptation to try MM, that may change at some time in the future though.
Not too surprising you are back on Lollipop.
I'm on B330 and was hoping for a more significant change.....battery drain seems same as B100 but I didn't compare that to B180. I am frustrated that the data usage chart doesn't seem to work at all. I'm hoping to find a workaround to that than downgrade.....overall, underwhelming would be my report.
There is no where near enough changes of any description from honor lollipop to honor marshmallow apart from its more smooth. I was very disappointed with honor as I thought they may have made more significant changes with the upgrade to B330. Especially with emui. After all the months they spent testing the Rom before release I was expecting a lot more from it. All it did was stop my fast charge capability that was working on my stock charger previously so make my experience slightly worse.
I have lost all interest in this phone and honor since the mm update. Don't get me wrong its a functional phone alright but I find it extremely dull and boring to use now and needing more. I won't be buying another.

What FW best suits my needs?

So i've been avoiding using my phone because i'm not really sure what to do about ROMs.
I'm guessing that I should back up the X829 FW with this guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/protocol-backup-stock-rom-flash-stock-t3517151
After that, I don't really know what the best ROM to install would be.
I am guessing that something EUI based would be better as a daily driver as it won't be broken?
Out of the stock ROMs, i'm guessing that Chinese 23 is the best as I heard 26 has problems.
For EUI based CFW I can see these 2:
small eui
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/rom-small-eui-5-9-aurel-battery-t3524531
cuoco92
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/rom-leeco-le2x820max5-9-023s-cuoco92-t3608187
Or are there any others?
And what are the pros and cons of each?
I assume that EUI based CFW is better for a "daily driver"? Or is Android 7 CFW okay now?
I don't care if the fingerprint sensor doesn't work as I don't use it but I definitely don't want to break other things on the phone.
I have heard disturbing things about the camera focus being broken (can bad CFW damage the motors by driving them too far?), battery problems and other things.
The biggest problem I have with the phone atm is that there is a lot of black crush. I hope installing new FW will fix that but really, I would like a CFW that supports KCAL so i can calibrate the screen.

Is it still the case that band 20 cannot be unlocked fox x829, like in this topic? https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/guide-unlock-bands-leeco-le-max-2-fix-t3439154
Also is there anything else a cfw noob should know / read up on?
Thanks

Both of them are good for everyday use, though I have noticed stock camera gives the best result that comes with EUI.
I have hardbricked x829 and I did mistake by not making firmware backup which you should definitely do, and if you can then please give a copy of x829 firmware to me too, this might recover my mobile.

Heyyo, eh you could reflash 5.8.016s but tbh it's not a good version of EUI ROM. For me YouTube would randomly fail to render the video feed or the agressive memory management would prevent some apps like Outlook from notifying me of new email and such... So I'd recommend any newer EUI ROM.
If you're really set on 5.8.016s though there's plenty of links still online such as this one I found via Google

So do the CFWs based on EUI have no issues compared to stock EUI firmware?
And are any of the Android 7 / 8 based CFWs good for a daily driver or is it better to stick with EUI?
Thanks

Heyyo, sorry if I missed answering this but for Android 8? Nah we are probably months away from something I'd consider for the average user as daily driver. They are definitely still experimental.
Android 7? Heck yeah they're darn good. The only issues in Android 7 ROMs that I've truly noticed is camera zoom big and flash with photos not being synced perfectly.
For the most stable Android 7 build? I'd say currently OmniROM. It works really good, has Google certified builds so they pass SafetyNet without the need of any mods or Magical Modules which is also a nice touch.
Otherwise? SlimRoms has a good balance of performance and battery and still receives updates and from my testing is stable haven't had any crashes.

[Q] Time to think beyond stock?

Ive been using stock roms from the time i got my kenzo. Stock roms are great and so much feature rich. The recent launch of MiUi 10 has many interesting features and it has made me think if I should go back to MiUi just for the visual experience. I mean user experience is also important right. What do you guys feel?
Quite a subjective question. I only use miui like a week. I don't the visuals nor the amount of crapware it has.

Agree, few like MIUI and few like me hate it from the core of the heart. I kept my phone in drawer for 14 days until I was able to unlock the bootloader. I can't stand MIUI, I can still use buggy AOSP rom instead of stable MIUI.

Miui gives u good features. Good camera quality, audio experience, battery life too. It also has inbuilt call recorder. But it has stock gapps which u may not use all and consider it as unnecessary bloat.
Even if it has so many features people mostly prefer higher android version and go with custom roms. Coz it has better performance, security and new innovative features and much improved core structure.
As mentioned before, I've never seen anyone neutral about miui. This ROM is made and optimized for xiaomi devices and there are many features only miui can give compared to others. The convenience and the visual experience, the smoothness of miui kept me going back to it again and again - Epic ROM Miui9 was the best build I've tried and used for a 6-8 months. Now I use oreo RR, because this is now on a level to compete user experience with miui... I mean this was... before miui 10.
Now I really hope that both, android P and miui 10 will be ported to this device, and I can try both before decide. I love my oreo setup now, but this is getting boring after months of use...

Its the same thing with me.. Oreo setup with AEx rom is cool bt its getting boring now and all stock roms have more or less the same features. Miui 10 videos are too tempting to give a try wen its out.

Would like some help and suggestions for Custom ROMs :D

I was looking into custom ROMs since MIUI has been quite irritating recently, and have found a couple that seem pretty nice. I have the Redmi 9S Global.
I saw Pixel Experience and Evolution X. Both similar to pixel, and I had a Mi A2 previously so I'm pretty familiar with the UI and features, and I liked it a lot. I was wondering, what are the difference between them, which one is better, and if you have any better options, let me know
I was also wondering, let's say, I want to sell my phone, how do I get it back to its stock MIUI, unrooted and locked bootloader so that it is just like new?
Any help and/or suggestions are appreciated

Question Is the stock firmware buggy?

Okay, I might be pre-biased, but I have heard about Sony firmware being exceptionally buggy even after many updates. (By all means, this is not Sony-exclusive problem.)
Can people still using the stock firmware confirm whether it is acceptable for daily use? How often do you reboot the phone?
I was actually planning on buying the phone with the suspicion that I will have to install LineageOS right away. Is there any experince of running LineageOS on it? Do all the nice features, like 4k screen, work?

Hey there, I hope you're doing okay
Answering your question, yes, upgrading from a stock rom to a custom rom will make your experience a lot better. not only in performance, in battery , and customization
and even better if you root + stock rom, that's it. your phone value will increase because not only can you experience the latest Android 13 but you can also do multitasking work very smoothly
Also, battery consumption will be reduced twice, and you can customize it starting from the icons, status bar, and lockscreen. Not only that, you can also install root modules
i mean, you can also use xiaomi camera app on your sony phone camera
think about it with sony camera and xiaomi camera software
If you can do everything, i will consider not buying a new phone rather than saving that money and investing it to make more money and buy an iPhone, but still, Android is better
I hope you liked my reply
Please like it and follow me. I will be very apreciative. Thank you so much

Sony Xperia 1
The Sony Xperia 1 is a 6.5" phone with a 1644x3840p display. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage. The main camera is 12+12+12MP and the selfie camera is 8MP. The battery has a 3330mAh capacity.

It makes no sense to install a custom ROM on a phone like the Xperia 1 close to launch. All the unique features of the phone (mainly the cameras) are locked behind the Sony custom API that is used by the stock apps running on the Sony app framework.
So at the very least you will need a Magisk module that ports over the latest version of the app framework to any generic ROM, and then install the stock (camera) apps.
Personally, I find the stock ROM close enough to AOSP that I haven't felt a need to install any custom ROM for the past 5 years now. When you install a custom ROM you are simply trading Sony bugs for things like missing implementations, partial hardware support etc.
There is nothing buggy. It's close to the os pixels launch with, their custom version of AOSP.
Just has a few more apps for camera stuff.
As an owner of the major flagship devices, this is the best all around experience and the best camera.
I recently had a Xiaomi 13 pro and thought it'd camera was best, nah this beats it and the os is leagues better. I have a pixel 7 pro also and I honestly won't ever use it again in comparison and I have the best roms I could build for it.
And as the others have said lineage is not an immediate thing anyone should just flash, and it's one of a gazillion roms and definitely not the first ROM I would flash...
