PiP apps that work with gesture navigation - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Guides, News, & Discussio

So far, I've found YouTube Vanced works really well even on Pie with gestures, even if it doesn't work the way it did on Oreo where switching to the last used app put it into PiP mode, but swiping to recent apps does the job quite well. As of the last update, the Beta version of Samsung Internet as well as Netflix seem to actually work doing PiP if you go to recents from full screen view, had anyone else got this change or found any other apps that work with this? Haven't noticed any other ones yet, and it is a bit janky compared to the fluidity of MIUI in general, but it is quite nice to have even as a weird version. Also had the same "workaround" when using standard navigation bar, so may just be a Pie thing?

Maps goes into PIP mode like 1 in 3 times I switch apps. There's no pattern to when it goes into PIP mode and when it doesn't. I'm getting pretty fed up with MIUI. It's so buggy.

On Android Q, miui finally made PIP work properly!

Picture In Picture Not working

Hi guys I've noticed that after update 146, PiP mode for almost any app is not working. I've checked and the option for picture in picture is enabled. For example Youtube stops playing immediately after I exit the app and enter another, and no matter what I do I can't trigger PiP. However PiP in Huawei Videos is working fine.
How is this option for you? Can you get it to work or do you have any solutions?

I think you need a YouTube subscription for it to work in the background including the PiP mode
Well I didn't know that. Thanks! But isn't at least supposed to continue playing in the background? I was using iPhone since 2007 and on iPhone, it continues playing even if you exit the app.

I second that, just make sure to install the upto date micro G apk so you can add your account.

I find PIP to be so unreliable. Yes, it's definitely not working on many of the apps
Hello i think that find the problem. the PIP work when the select the control with the 3 button on parameter system. But if you select the control by gesture, the PIP not work, not youtube, not google maps Why ?
If you use gestures you should be able to get pip by swiping to the recent apps, YouTube, vanced, chrome, ECT all working fine with me, I'm using fluid gestures.
There is a older thread somewhere about this.
For me it does not work. I have a huawei mate 20 pro android 9. Do you know how? Because actually on the honor 9 lite with android 8 it works well
Gestures seem to mess up the pip mode
When I go into YouTube and then swipe up to go home, the YouTube playing minimizes down into the YouTube icon on the desktop. When I use the three button navigation it works as it should. Note this is only an issue when I'm using the Huawei default home launcher. EMUI 9.1 android 9
Problem:
The Picture-in-picture window does not appear for apps such as Google Maps and YouTube when the user swipes to return to the home screen.
Cause:
Currently, the Picture-in-picture feature does not support the Gestures navigation mode.
Solution:
Go to Settings > System > System navigation, and set the navigation mode to Three-key navigation.

Buttons disappear from navigation bar

I get this randomly. It seems to happen the most when I have SwiftKey open and it always happens when I search within the app drawer. I switched launchers (tried lawn chair and rootless pixel) and I see the same thing.
The buttons are there, I can click them but they just vanish and it looks horrible.
Pic attached.
I guess I should also say that enabling full screen gestures works around this but that has its own set of problems for me, namely that I keep missing the space bar when using the keyboard and that the back gesture doesn't scale up from the keyboard so I keep going back when swiping.
Edit: I've confirmed that the problem is Swiftkey. The default Google keyboard doesn't have this problem but it isn't nearly as good. It'll do for now I guess...
I have the same issue. I tried installing navbar apps, but it doesn't work. Is there any way to set gboard to add a space automatically after a period or a comma? One of the many tine differences I prefer SwiftKey over Gboard, but this navbar bug is making me make the switch.

Turn off Landscape Navigation Gestures?

Is there any way to just flat out disable the rotation of the navigation gestures of Android 10?
I'd really like them to not rotate with rest of my content, I would like to keep my recents and navigation gestures on static portrait mode. It feels really unconventional and disgusting and annoying to have it like this.
Android 9 on Oneplus 6 had it static but also started rotating when i updated it to A10. So it's definitely a new OOS/A10 thing which I don't like one bit.
Oh and my Oneplus 7T Pro is rooted with Magisk if that information helps. Can't install twrp tho, so zip patches may be a nono unless I can flash it through adb.

Trouble with Gestures

Is anyone else having trouble using gestures with third party launchers? For me, they work just fine and then after some time it reverts to buttons and I get the message "System navigation updated. To make changes, go to settings".
Searching around, it seems like people on other phones don't have this problem anymore.
On a different note, I started using fluid navigation gestures (FNG) and I preferred that since I could add more gestures. Problem is if I'm plugged into the dual screen case and I turn off the dual screen - either by turning the screen behind the phone or manually turning it off - and use the notification shade, then the buttons come back and hide and FNG is disabled until I start using the dual screen again.
Anyone have any solutions?

Same annoying issue! I think it happens every time Nova gets restarted but not sure on that. I've searched for a resolution too and can't find one. I tried creating a tasker profile to make it easier to switch back to gestures via a quick setting but it doesn't work. The secure setting to change is navigation_mode value of 2.

Nova shows you an explanation right on the settings page of the problem. Google has not made gestures 100% compatible with 3rd party launchers and there is nothing devs can do until Google gives them what they need
Yes, I've seen that message. I've also seen that Google delivered this ability in December of last year and that some users have this working fine. It's different from when it would gray out the option to use the gestures. This one feels like LGs software is the one resetting the gestures since the notification is titled System UI.
I'd be fine with any solid gesture solution as I'm not mated to the built in gestures, but it seems like others break due to the dual screen. Meanwhile the built in ones fail. I could of course change back to gestures every time this happens, but it feels like I'm using a beta device in this regard.

I don't think it's LG. My wife has the same issue on her Note10, and I have it in both my V60 and my OnePlus 6t all using Nova. Maybe another launcher has implemented the fix?
So far for me Action Launcher seems to be working ok with gestures, even after a reboot. I prefer Nova but this is close.
edit: Dual screen causes the navigation to revert back

Question On-screen Gestures Not Working

Hi guys and girls,
Not into all this programming stuff etc. I got the official update last night on my Xiaomi 11LITE 5G.
Now my onscreen gestures are not working anymore.
Strange, because if you do the training of the gestures, it is working, but once out of there nothing
is working.
So I have to start using the buttons (which is annoying to me)
Anyone else has this problem?

I can help you if you have root. It stopped working on mine too so I use FNG. To get rid of the annoying 3 button navigation use these commands:
1. Download Termux
2. Su
3. "props qemu.hw.mainkeys 1"
4. Reboot
And you've got navigation gestures. Add it to the navigation so you can turn navigations on and off easily

I had also this problem, but only when I use Nova as Launcher.
Gestures works with default launcher. That's annoying, i'm used to nova and his usefull features.
Is there anyway to make the screen turn off and on by double tapping the screen?

Gestures being blocked on third party launchers is an Android 11 limitation.
Nova Launcher have issued a beta version released for Android 11 only, they figured out how to get Gestures working again.
