Questions about various roms for LG V30 - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi guys and gals,
Picked up a V30 for its SD 835 and Oled at 150$.
I love the phone but hate the customization options, I already tried havoc unofficial but games are laggier than stock (maybe 45fps in games like clash)
So that said, let me ask you guys:
Whats your favorite custom Rom?
Hows the gaming performance?
Does it get hot?
Hows the battery life?
Sorry guys for the textbook intro, ans thank you for your answers!

I run rooted stock firmware with my own choice of mods, like Anxious V30 and Gravity Box.
Which variant do you have?

H-932. I mostly want swipe gestures and a system wide night mode. I'm currently on debloated flashable stock Oreo ROM and it performs well. Also I like being able to change the Resolution.

Try Xenon HD with custom kernel like Ceres 145 SE Linux Permissive

Miui vs custom rom

Hello all good people
Just got my hands on Redmi note 4, cool device, but im not that into MIUI... but the device is working nicely, my concern is how stable and smooth are custom roms?
i see there are couple of popular ones, can you please tell me is there any real benefit using custom rom vs stock miui in battery life, performance.. and witch one is the most stable.
Thank you!

There are a lots of benefits of using custom ROM over stock one. Currently I'm using Resurrection Remix 5.8.3 on my rn4. It's fully stable. You can try it yourself.

For best stability bro, go forward non other than MIUI
Clearly, MIUI are made only for Mi phones, designed to be well..perfectly stable. Now others might against this lol.
Custom roms are stable too, yet miui are far more than that.
Honestly, I see no benefits using stock MIUI against stock rom (or vice versa).
They're just practically the same, only differ in some minimal undistinguishable matters.
Moreover, it the end, just a personal cup of tea.

bro i have tried ressurection remix, lineage os. Only benefit i see in using custom rom is slightly better performance than miui(and that also you will realise after playing very heavy games otherwise it is ignorable), in terms of features manual customisation is more in custom rom(most in ressurection remix)but I still very much prefer customisation through themes in miui(because i am an anime fan and are tons of attractive anime themes in chinese miui theme store). in terms of stability and battery life i didn't nltice much change(maybe slightly better bettery life in custom rom). But overall i greatly prefer miui because it has much more user friendly feachures than custom rom(which you will soon realise after using custom rom) and because of its attractive themes(mostly anime based).

It's really nice do read someone opinion based on experience with custom ROMs. I bet that battery performance on custom ROM with custom kernel should be better but in that case...
I'm currenty running beta MIUI 9 and I really enjoy system because I migrated from iOS and if there is no point to move to custom ROM I am fine with it.

I am using custom roms from a long time ,so i very much used to the looks of customs roms . Then I got mido and miui was the rom installed in that ,i didn't liked it as i felt it lacks the amount of customization and features i needed . I didnt even like the interface of miui and didn't even find it user - friendly ( its user friendly for many users ) . So definitely it was not perfect to me . And updates were very late ( all oems have this issue regarding pushing new updates ) so i moved to custom roms .
If you say what are the benefit for custom rom
1) regular updates
2) tons of customization
3) better memory management ( it can be achieved on miui using custom kernel too )
:silly: that's it from my side then . Thank you

By better management i mean the multi tasking part . Apps remains in memory . But miui is very aggressive when it comes to memory .
And why do you care for ram ? Free ram is a waste ram . You should care if you phone struggles with common apps . And you know right android is smart enough to handle this memory thing thank you
Custom roms can give you more space and possibilities

MIUI works really well, there's no denying that. I installed xiaomi eu rom a little while back and it worked really well, smooth fast and battery back seemed good. Despite all that, MIUI feels very claustrophobic when you try to navigate through the phone. Notifications are a mess. Everything seems to be crammed into that notification shade.
Needless to say, my sojourn did not last long.
Custom roms give you the freedom to choose from a variety of customisations to stock to barebones. They are light, fast and easy to work with. Only drawback is that sometimes things break in custom roms. You need to have the willingness to work around it when that happens. And there will be bugs, known and unknown both.
Battery life should not be a concern unless there is an unprecedentedly high drainage. People get unusually high SOT by limiting usage to WiFi only and staying on 2G. But in real world, with 2 Sims, 1 LTE and other 3G, 6-7 hrs SOT seems like a good bet.
Performance is at par for all. Stability may be here and there for some roms. The more customisations there are, more are the chances for things to break. You can use less customisation roms, my recommendation would be slim, mainstage os & aosp-caf. For customisations, you can pick any of the rest.
Personally I use from among the three, mainstage being the most favorite. My experience has been that idle drain is really low in slim and mainstage. Rest you will have to use them to pick your go-to roms.
And yes, camera is not the best feature of custom roms.
Thank you all, great discussion yes miui 8 is pretty cool in its own way, but i think i will explore more stock like android experience and then miui 9

I think I should just add this point (whether it is a small or big point depends on your own perspective on your own privacy). The point is that one should be very careful about ROMs with embedded "dial home" features. Call me paranoid if you want, but, for me, this means that, for as long as there are good custom AOSP/LOS/CAF ROMs, MIUI is a non-starter.
For further information, read the "Skinny" threads on the Redmi Note 2 forums.
These devices are very competitively priced, and so are great buys - but the very first action should be to change the ROM from MIUI.
Miss those days when I was on the HTC Desire and @LeeDroid customized sense so much that it was perfect and very nice for those days.
I miss a good miui rom with stock notification icons and a working Google smartlock.
There are so much roms for mido but most of the roms is all of the same in performance and design.
We got now substratum but that is just layers not a redesign of some system apps. Like I mentioned before.
Why are there no more custom miui roms?
Is it not possible for developers to enable Google smart lock? Or change the statusbar stock notifications icons time right side?
What is the hold up here?
Yea we got xiaomi EU and few mods but nothing that spectacular.
BTW this is no offense to all those devs workings on mido I just asked myself and this is my first xiaomi phone and on HTC, Samsung roms they are modding the **** out of the stock roms.
TBH at the end of the day you will go and use stock ROM so am now out of flashing custom ROM it's now boring stuff! I rather prefer modified stock ROM like miglobe.com xiaomi.eu multirom.me and what ever and I would love to try paranoid ROM once it becomes official cause official has more features. And most important it has a OFFICIAL TAG which do matter. And taking about custom ROM all are same with a slight or little change in name and features every second nerd or geek wants to be a developer. Overall I can say that it depends upon your requirements to go or not to go. Personally if you hate miui I Mean the UI (I hate it too) than you should go with custom Rom and if you want something new and more scope of customisation. Else if you don't give a **** all you want is a phone for face book Twitter and Instagram and WhatsApp and pornhub.com then stock is for u
I have been using various custom roms on my phones for atleast 5 years. One the common hate items for custom ROM is the inferior battery backup when compared to stock ROM. My recent experience is on Asus Zenfone 2 Laser.

This is precisely why I have looked in this thread... fyi... I never intended to use miui cloud service, it was only when I got a message stating 6gb of my personal photos had been upoloaded and that I needed more space!!! like wtf
so, yes I want all miui gone.. but I really like the second space, dont want to lose that, and like has been said, ignoring the miui bit it is a nice bit of software

Advice on a fast, stable ROM for my 1GB/16GB G4 Play

Hi all.,
I have an old G4 Play which I am tinkering with. I use an Xperia L1 as my main phone but get fed up with the limited storage due to Sony's grrrrrr bloatware.
I have tried Pixel Experience 8.1 on the G4 Play but it is too slow and different aspects often hang or crash, plus the battery life is dreadful. I also use Nova Launcher.
So I am looking for a slimmer, swifter ROM that would suit my low-memory version of the G4 Play if anyone could give me any advice.
TIA
SP
I really recommend you one of the most stable Oreo ROMs AOSP Extended v5.8 ROM ... Sadly, the developers erase everything without say even a goodbye

Yes bro, I absolutely agree with u. I've tried so many Nougat & Oreo ROMS & found low sound issue on video recording on almost all Nougat ROMs and some Nougat ROM has dark issue as well on camera. And on the Oreo ROMs battery drains deadly but AEX(AOSP Extended v5.8) is the best. Upto date Android version 8.1, security patch of August, 2018. Super battery backup, Camera, so many useful Customisation, almost no problems at all only default call recording doesn't work from the dialer but definitely u can use third party call recording apps from play store(tested).
Thankfully Here is the latest version download link: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903984332
AOKP ROM
It's the better. Android 7.1 (Stable) :good:
So did you try this rom? How was your experience? I am also considering flashing this rom now since the stock 7.1.1 rom has really bad battery backup atleast for me.

Why custom roms performance is not as good as MIUI?

I have seen some of the 600 series processor phones with performance in custom roms better than the stock rom.
What's going on with POCO?
I can't directly ask a developer because there is always someone against me saying ' it's his free time hobby that he is giving us time, you should not ask any question regarding his work '. Ok that's fine! But performance issue only with POCO, I don't get it.........
I hate MIUI because of it's User experience, so I search for ROMs with stock experience but I didn't find any , forget about getting better than MIUI but same as Miui's performance. It's no more snapdragon 845 phone anymore with custom roms............. Go compare with other Manufacturers..
Yeah, I kind of see what you mean... Some custom ROMs have pretty bad performance compared with stock for whatever reason. I've noticed that the only ROM faster than MIUI on Poco is OxygenOS. It's been my daily driver for a while now. Nitrogen is also quite good as far as I remember... I try to stay away from custom ROMs because of the unsatisfying performance. I only switch between MIUI and OOS now.

I have used it bro, it's really fast but the only thing it lacks is the touch response or smoothness like MIUI.
If it was I wouldn't had any complaints...
i dont get it, where is it faster? what kind of performance? im using aosip, its much smoother than miui and is totaly fast, no complains at all. i also tried oos, miui eu, mi room, linage, pe, havoc, crdroid, nos and few more others, none had "bad performance". can you tell me what exactly do you mean? i experinced laggs and stuttering only on miui

Crdroid is better than MIUI imo. Especially in the latest updates.
I'm using some magisk modules for increasing smoothness, but all in all its performance is over the top out of the box.
P.S. Hold in mind that the phones you're mentioning are probably older than the Poco.
As time goes by, devs fix bugs and embed new things even from other devices to make the phone run better. So time works in favor of the custom ROMs.

The good thing of MIUI is performance (although as i said, crdroid performs even better imo).
Smoothness is non-existent. The first month i was using MIUI i had started wandering why i bought the Poco, since my 3 year old zuk z2 felt smoother.
The lags and the stuttering are everywhere except the menus.
I'm using LineageOS and I don't notice a difference in performance in day-to-day use. Perhaps in gaming MIUI might be better, but you kinda expect that due to optimization.
Maybe because of the kernel?? Im also a fan of miui because of the custom.kernel that works great on it...
hi everyone, i am still using MIUI global rom. current version 10.3.4.
i do have interest to unlock my phone and switch to other rom. but two things in my concern, the native miui camera app and esim.
in asia, we do have one app that will use the built in esim feature , am i still getting this benefit from custom rom too?

Well regarding the native Miui camera, you can install the port on your custom rom but few features wont work such as 120fps and 240fps slow mo and few more. But all basic features will work such as taking a photo or recording video.
Sadly, No idea about esim though.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Well the only reason why one can feel custom roms to be less snappy than MIUI is because of the optimizations that MIUI has for POCO F1 for it's touch response. You must be knowing about touch response issue of Poco F1 and Xiamoi has done lot's of optimization not only in it's vendor files but also in the MIUI for Poco itself to rectify the issue as much as possible. And this is something AOSP roms or any other roms lack because mostly AOSP roms are universal made and minor tweaks are done to make it work with a certain device so level of per device tweak is pretty less.
Now if you directly compare the performance of a custom rom (I am using Pixel Experience) with MIUI, both open apps at almost the same time and both are fluid. I don't care about the benchmarks because that really doesn't define anything related to personal experience.
So despite knowing this factor, I went for custom rom because I felt like Poco F1 does not deserve that crappy and cheap MIUI experience which is on offer. And Pixel Experience has been a great rom till date.
I think you should give a try to custom roms such as Oxygen OS or any good AOSP based rom such as Pixel Experience (my recommendation) or Nitrogen OS. Also Lineage OS is very good but its too much basic for me.
I just cant agree with this topic, I can feel that every custom rom developed here was amazing. I noticed the most biggest improvement for custom rom was it feel so snappy compared to stock rom. And i managed to squeeze more battery life than stock rom. But one thing stock rom for sure to win was, its picture taken using its stock camera app. I know we can use google camera, but when using aosp camera it the quality was too bad, so much difference from stock miui camera.
What about .eu miui stable releases? They have rectified most of the annoyances of miui global. Anyone tried it?
If someone from asia (india) uses .eu miui rom, will everything work properly without any region related issues?

Maybe stop flashing random Magisk modules and other crap which interferes with the system.
I've never had any issues with MIUI, it was always smooth and performing very well out of the box.

I have to assume that you cannot read English very well.
I mentioned that i use magisk modules that IMPROVE my experience with my CURRENT ROM.
I am getting better performance and better SOT than with MIUI.
To clarify things, I was using MIUI with locked bootloader and without any modifications.

The improvements are slightly noticable, but it's not just a placebo (at least on crdroid).
+They don't affect the battery negatively.

Help picking Between Custom ROMs.

Hello respected community,
I use the 6 gig 128 gig F1 varient and I recently updated to the 0.6 version of MIUI 11. Since then I have been facing major heating, lag and battery life drop. All major. And so I'd like to switch to a custom ROM asap. I understanding asking for a best ROM ain't right because there are a lot of variables to consider. I hate the animation management on MIUI 11 as it just sparks here and there at most time.
I have I list of things that would need to be checked when switching to the ROM. I'm hoping this will make it easier for you guys.
Gaming performance, Smooth Animations, Decent SoT and Minimal bugs so as to use it as a daily driver.
If needed, I can install a custom Kernal with the ROM too. I also would like to experience the new gestures of Android 10 with it.
I guess the ones that I came across were Oxygen OS, Pixel Experience, Lineage OS, Nitrogen and Havoc. Which one might be best suitable for me from your experience?
Thanks a ton in advance. Much appreciated.
AOSP:Evo x Havoc
Lineage:CRDROİD
Miuiort MiRoom ,MandFX or official MiuiPro
11.0.6.0 is an incremental update to 11.0.4.0 which has its own flaws.

Considering ur requirements 11.0.5.0 is an all rounder : root it, change kernel, reduce animation scale to 0.5x by going into developer settings.
Now talking abt custom roms, as u knw devs have limited resources, feedback, data, sample rate, testing etc as compared to xiaomi's.
I am not saying xiaomi produces flawless roms bt u think over the above points to decide.

Thank You, how is the performance for Havoc OS? I've been wanting to test it out for a good while now. I've used Arrow OS and Bootleggers on a Moto G4 Plus and got comfortable with the features they had to offer. I'm guessing Havoc is similar too?

11.0.6.0 is an incremental update to 11.0.4.0 which has its own flaws.
When u said :
Considering ur requirements 11.0.5.0 is an all rounder : root it, change kernel, reduce animation scale to 0.5x by going into developer settings.
Now talking abt custom roms, as u knw devs have limited resources, feedback, data, sample rate, testing etc as compared to xiaomi's.
I am not saying xiaomi produces flawless roms bt u think over the above points to decide.

Thank You for the valuable feedback. Also I forgot to mention, I'd like to get out of the MIUI environment. But with the data you guys have, which Rom would you pick between Havoc and CrDroid for stability and performance? And also, which Kernal should I be using for the above said two features?
Thank You both for the valuable responses.

I put OOS on mine and never looked back.
I also use a 6T every day so I'm kind of partial to 1+

I've been using crdroid for about a year (since pie and continued to 10) and i recently switched to havoc (both versions)
I have to say that both ROMs are great.
Havoc gapps version gives a more premium feeling (for me at least).
I'm using it with Optimus drunk kernel and my gaming experience is great ( i play injustice 2 and mortal Kombat 11 ) without any drawbacks in everyday life.
P.s. I've tested almost every option and that's what I liked the most, but bare in mind that if you don't try for your self you'll never know.
wait for couple of days,
official lineage will be released, flash it
u can use a custom kernel to improve performance

Thank you for your responses. CrDroid looks really promising as of now to be honest. I'll keep you guys updated on my move when I make it.
Cheers to you all! ??

I didn't say it was a "gaming rom". But there are people that use it for that because of the performance. Its spoken highly of in that regard

well , in case of performance... i didn't feel any difference regarding custom roms.. so i'm using MIUI right now
Corvus performance is not amazing of course tried on some other phones

In my experience you can definitely feel a difference between roms. Some are more smooth, some styles are more efficient for how i use my phone. There are factors to consider when choosing a rom. And I've seen a lot about gaming and corvus so that was my recommendation. Are you saying he shouldn't care what rom he plays games on because they are basically the same?

all roms use the same kernel so performance shouldn't change drastically. So he should choose a rom according to his tastes, not performance ... for that we have to wait for the custom kernels
All roms use the same kernel?

all roms use same kernel no difference in performance (there is no "best rom")
Maybe one did.
MIUI has some turbo mod in the settings.
It could run the processor in peak performance mode.
So try this.
Actually, first, please define "Gaming ROM", since you're not even clearly understanding what is Gaming ROM, how can u ask for it? Besides, @alonsoj636 was right in one thing, whatever ROM u use, still sharing the same kernel ( until we have Custom Kernel too ), hence, the performance would be slightly different. But one thing that some ROM does have is Boosting Touch Sampling Rate, and that function does help your gaming experience more smoothly.
I am looking for something similar i don't why but the pubg performance in miui 12 is very bad i have 4,64 variant but frame drops are very annoying i guess the sd 678 is not yet optimised for gaming considering its a fairly new chipset introduced in phones

Yes , is new ... But the SD 678 is a low-end chipset is not meant for gaming... go for the 732G or better if u want decent gaming experience
Yes , MIUI still is very heavy for this device ... need optimization
