Will the Mi 8 Pro ever see Widevine L1? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I've had this phone for around 6 months now and it's a great phone except for the Widevine issue, I got a big Miui 11.0.5 update which added a lot of things and I was hopeful for the Widevine update but it didn't happen.
Are we ever likely to see the certification update or is it a no go?

Huawei Mate 10 Pro, where's EMUI 8.1, when is OK Google gonna work, landscape homescr

Hi Members, when are UK HM10pro phone and users going to get the EMUI 8.1 firmware Android update (if ever), why does OK Google still not work, with it still greyed out, why have they still not sorted out having the home screen in landscape view (not just the apps).
I think Huawei leave a previous model behind ,like all Chinese makers, forget about there users of a previous model, and concentrate on there upcoming phone (The Mate 20 Pro)
I have the latest OTA UK user updates, I even tried that Huawei beta program app (load of rubbish, only for Chinese models).
I think this will be my first, and last Huawei phone product, I think I'll stick with Samsung next time (updates always funelled through at some point with them)
If anyone has an idea on resolving these issues, please post (I've done may full phone resets, so don't bother with this suggestion thanks)
I've also emailed Huawei many times about all the above issues, with there finale help being an update will come (or in the next update), this was months ago now, so very unreliable support.
Thanks
Same here. I regret buying mate Pro. Waiting for one plus 6t n I will get rid of this 10 pro. Absolute bollocks

Looks like we´ll never get EMUI 8.1 in the west, most likely EMUI 9 on Pie soon, as Pie beta program is running and expected to end Nov-30 so far.
Regarding UK devices, if you have some experience try rebranding to EU, which is constantly updated(on October security patch today). I posted a little guide to go UK -> EU on UK thread, check it out if you´re interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77825017&postcount=470
Hi All, thanks for the input and comments, so what it really comes down to is ..."don't buy Huawei again" from the vibes that I'm getting here.
I wouldn't want to do any unlocking and rooting, just to have bug fixed update, which should be offered by the manufacturer as a 'duty bound product service' provider anyway, ..no, this is not acceptable.
My only course of action is not to buy there products again, as a consumer that's the power we all have, and we should invoke this stance buy the casual manner by which Huawei, or anyother manufacturer chooses to do so.
Our mistake as buyers is, that we allow these large profit mongering technology companies to continue.
I don't include the likes of Apple, or Samsung, or Sony, these companies have a strong and proven track record, and in the end, are a safer bet with standing by there technology, and supporting there products a little more.
Thanks you members who posted comments.

Since getting a Mate 10 in February it has received improved night mode camera, monthly security updates, GPU Turbo (never used this), and face unlock. I am happy with that. Much better than Mate 9 that did not get any new features until Oreo arrived in January, and only security updates every 3 or 4 months. 8.1 is out on Chinese Mate 10 models, and Pie is on the way bring it on
This is for C185 region
OK Google Update
OK Google still not working here in UK, any idea when Mate 10 Pro will get Android Pie?? Im still on Android security Patch 1 June 2018 with no updates available? Anyone got a newer security patch?
Model BLA-L09
EMUI 8.0.0
LG and Samsung are as crap as Huawei for updates.
Good luck ever seeing an update on a LG - the wife's G6 (which was mine before she had it) had no security updates while it ran Android 7, was updated to Oreo, and has had one security update since.

10 months old, and already discontinued!?

So I was still in the fence about getting this or the x2 pro... But eglobal have all but stopped stocking the 9t. An and the news recently that xiaomi has discontinued the phone! Wow it's not even a year old....
What gives?
The Mi10 will come out next week and be the successor of the Mi 9 series. So I advise you to wait until the next model is released, I expect a price drop on the old models.
that's the reality of buying a xiaomi phone, you should buy it within the first two months of release, or buy it a year later when the new version is released and the phone you wanted gets a price cut.
I would still buy the 9t/pro over the mi 10 or a newer phone because I don't like the notch or punch hole in the screen.
hopefuly xiaomi releases a 10t with popup camera and 120hz OLED screen later in the year (or maybe a under screen camera)

This will become a norm going forward, as tech advances at a rapid pace, 1 phone model won't get a full year in the market.
Once discontinued from production, for how long Xiaomi continues to provide OTA updates?
Usually about 2 years after the sale stopped (so in total 3 years). In the second year maybe 1-3 updates, in the third 1-2. This might change with Android 10 though, as less integration work is needed for updates.

Well under Android, phones must be get a minimum of 2 major OS updates, so it shipped with Pie so we will get Android 11, after that it's up to Xiaomi if they want to continue supporting or not, most likely they won't though.

I don't think it's discontinued in all regions. Still having strong sales in India atm
Is this the reason why we're stuck at a November security patch (Raphaelin)? Or am I missing something?!
Might be because of Corona virus currently, it's well possible that most employees must stay at home at the moment.

Teclast M40 - is there any Widevine L1 fix?

Hi everyone, I just bought a Teclast M40 tablet and was wondering if anyone has found a Widevine L3 to L1 fix for it yet. I tried with the file posted here but after authorizing unknown sources installation it still says me "app not installed". Is there anything else I could do? SD Netflix is ok but can't see why I can't see it FullHD since I regularly pay...
Thank you!
P.S.: the tablet has not been unlocked or anything, has stock settings/software.
There's no way? :-(
Also bought the teclast m40 and IT arrived today. I also searching for a solution.

The fix patch is only used to restore Widevine L1 certification on those devices that already possessed it before installing a custom ROM or enabling root.
The Teclast M40 was born with the L3 certification and will die with that. Certifications are awarded based on the hardware of the device, which cannot be changed.
In any case, I assure you that on that type of screen watching Netflix or Prime Video in HD or SD does not change much ...
Well it doesn't just depend on hardware since there are phones, like Realme 7 Pro, that have been dwngraded from L1 to L3 with update patches... was hoping in some software trick to make the tablet look like another device or something :-/

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
Widevine L1 certification is issued by Google.
Since certifying a smartphone by a company has a cost (which can be considerable), the smartphones of small or modest Chinese companies such as Teclast are assembled and sold with a stock AOSP ROM installed or slightly modified with proprietary applications, in order to limit production costs.
Often the Roms are not fully compatible with the installed hardware, as you can see from the M40 tablet, which has an Android Stock Rom with numerous bugs (see known bugs such as microphone, camera, wifi, brightness) and it takes several months before the manufacturer finds a solution.
On the other hand, companies like Realme (previously part of Oppo), are real giants compared to companies like Teclast, and can afford to have their devices certified by Google.
The Realme 7 pro you mentioned was born with Widewine L1 certification and following an update bug it was downgraded to L3. The problem was solved with subsequent updates directly from Realme.
To date, there is no way to give L1 certification to a phone that is born with L3. The only way was to use a modded netflix apk that enabled full HD even on non-compatible devices, but I don't know if there are any working apps out there. Over time Netflix has made them obsolete one by one...

11.0.2 but no Widevine L1? Seriously OnePlus?!

After updating to 11.0.2 I checked Netflix to see if anything changed. As I suspected, still on L3 with SD playback. We all know this phone can easily play a 1080p video.... Gotta love it. My fingers are crossed, maybe someday
we need custom rom to fix the widevine L1 for our nord n10

Nord N10 just have not been provisioned for Widevine L1, no OTA released by OnePlus (or custom ROM) can fix it, as key provisioning has to be done at factory.

I've already asked that, which as you've found out isn't possible unfortunately but I just download all my movies anymore, screw Netflix.

Is MI 9T officially getting android 12?

Or did Xiaomi stop any future updates to mi 9t?

Not A12
It was said 4-5 months ago that davinci will get MIUI 13 but with A11 although I doubt now
Yep, it looks like Xiami "changed their minds" regarding Mi 9T support.
A shame.
Good thing I stayed with the untouched MIUI 12.0.5 firmware, seeing how many issues came with MIUI 12.1.X
I'll probably go for alternative firmwares once I see one in these forums that looks stable enough.

I had switched long ago to Xiaomi.eu Stable 12.5.2
It was my Daily driver for couple of months and I was satisfied (and other users on Xiaomi.eu forum and here - you could look under 9, 9T Pro, 9 SE - all those phones ended with the similar situation regarding the updates)
Still on my old 9T but I have switched in the meantime to the new daily driver, 11 Lite 5G NE

Hmmm... might try it sooner or later. Though I see that it hasn't been updated since Nov. Does that mean that the 12.5 branch won't get any more updates? (security updates at least...) Because if that's so... I'm not really sure that it's worth the hassle, right?

Seems no more upgrades for the whole series Mi 9 series.
But from my experience it is better than 12.1, 12.2
Also, you have to format Data when switching to Xiaomi.eu and IMO, that heals the issues people otherwise reported while upgrading stock to 12.1 or 12.2
If you are ok with MIUI, that's the best you can get
But it is also questionable how many custom ROMs will continue to get updates

That's what I was afraid of. LineageOS stopped supporting it too, so no luck on that side either. What a shame, because this phone is plenty capable and I see no reason to buy a new one.

Yes but you can think the same about ROM. If you settle with a good one, who cares (for a year or so) if it won't be updated.
It's important that there are other users, and that you can get help/support among them
Ok, you don't get new security updates. But apps will be continually updated for A11 for some years to come (Xiaomi.eu 12.5.2 is A11)

The phone will surely die before A10/A11 stops getting support from apps though.
Lineage from Arian is supported and updated every week. The one reason 19.1 is not popular yet, is because of data decryption is not possible yet on A12, but ROM is soooo smooth andbug free I can't wait to get it as my daily
