TWRP for Redmi 8A (olivelite) Global MIUI 10 - Xiaomi Redmi 8A Questions & Answers

I have built a derivative of the TeamWin Recovery Project recovery to the new Android device Xiaomi Redmi 8A (olivelite). This recovery has been extensively tested and works perfectly on Global version of the device with latest firmare as of 20.11.2019. on Android Pie (MIUI 10).

IMPORTANT: You must flash vbmeta or your phone will fail to boot (until you restore stock recovery):
https://projects.milankragujevic.com/olivelite/vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
I'm very sorry that I forgot to include this instruction initially. If anyone's phone has failed to boot, you can either flash vbmeta and use my TWRP, or flash the stock recovery without flashing vbmeta.

I have tried it on MIUI 11 India ROM, it works the same (but my phone is Global and I flashed MIUI 11 India on it).

I don't quite understand, but you probably bricked your phone.
Restore stock ROM with Mi Flash, then reboot into bootloader by turning off the phone from the OS and holding volume Down and pressing the power until the FASTBOOT logo appears.
Then do "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and start pressing volume Up (not Down!) and type "fastboot reboot" while holding the volume button.
It will go into TWRP.

thank you for the answer
But Don t problem for mi on fastboot second time flashed stock recovery after this yes opened normal
But I haven't tried your recovery
Wait for next update

@ararat1824 I don't understand you at all. But if you have not tried my recovery, this is not the place for you to complain.

@milankragujevic
google traslete
First time your recovery dont enter to recovery but dont reboot redirected otomatik to fastboot
I tried a lot your recovery but It did not work on my rom V11 india
Ok after I flashed stock recovery ya and opened
never changed because returned stock only flashed recovery
thanks again and new wait for miui V11

Twrp recovery not working dont flash any one

Hi, @rehan992,
How is it not working? Did you try it on a Global variant of the phone as I have written in the post?
Your profile says you live in India, and presumably have an India variant of the phone, in which case that is an unsupported configuration and the recovery may or may not work.
If you still want to get it working, you can also try flashing this vbmeta image: https://projects.milankragujevic.com/olivelite/vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
Then retry flashing TWRP.
As I have written in the blog post, the recovery works on my device.

Ok wait i will try

Hi @ararat1824, thank you for testing and reporting that it works. Enjoy
@rehan992 I have used it, it has no problems. You should always backup your device, but it did work for me both on MIUI 10 and MIUI 11. You are clearly doing something wrong, however you have provided no info so I can't help you.
ararat, about Magisk: there's a boot.img patch for India MIUI 10 and Global MIUI 10:

Soon.
When I met with Anuj (Xiaomi India's head of marketing) some time back, he mentioned that they have an internal goal to release the sources within 3 months, but they have been trying to do it as soon as possible. The Redmi Note 7 got its kernel code released a day or two ago, so I expect the Note 7's to come by next week (guesstimate on my end).

I see.. I just want to flash global stable right away..no problem with unlocking but I have to wait 360 hours before unlocking the bootloader.. how about mi flash tool through deep fash cable or the diy flash cable?
Question.
Having a Chinese variant.
Unlocked bootloader.
Normally I flash custom ROMs but want to give Global a try.
If I flash following the instructions given. Will it then automatically update to global OTA updates or each time would I have to flash via Fastboot?
How does global ROM exist if xiaomi didn't release global version? Is this ROM not made by xiaomi? User-made?

For some reason Xiaomi does not have one place to share the links. Sometimes it's on the main MI web page (but strongly depends which country variation you select), in other cases it's just mentioned in MI forum post (yet again depends on the country variation). People collect those links and store them for future use, but they are 100% original (as you can see where they're actually linking).

Thanks!

Come to our group and we'll get you fixed up. You are correct, No roms are flashed unless you flash them. The toolkit only gets you setup for GSI roms, which you have to get. Native Android 9 works very well, so you have a couple differents choices.

There is no such a thread "how to root with magisk" in all XDA links.
But, "IF" you are talking about the thread "How to Root Mi A3 with MAGISK without TWRP", I will say again, because you dont understand at the first time...
...I already searched everywhere, and nothing worked
(including "How to Root Mi A3 with MAGISK without TWRP", the link to this boot.img on github is broken).
But what I just dont understand is WHY are you insisty giving me answer that I didn't ask in the first place? What I ask was:
what is the correct name of stock boot and where can I find it?
If you cant help, just liave it.
Hi Everybody.
I finally found out all this things about the stock boot.
The correct name is "boot.img".
You can EXTRACT this "boot.img" from its respective "OTA" file.
To do so, follow this steps:
1 - Find out what is the "Android Number Version" in your cellphone here:
Settings->about the device->Android Version-> Number Version.
For exemple, my "Android Number Version" is V12.0.5.0.RFQEUXM
12.0.5.0 - Firmware version
R- Android version (R-> Android 11R or Android 11 / P-> Android pie or Android 9).
FQ - Smartphone model code (FQ = Xiaomi Mi A3).
EU- Firmware build type (MI for Global | EU for Europe)
XM - Firmware version code
2 - Download "OTA" file from here:
https://www.thecustomdroid.com/xiaomi-mi-a3-android-10-update-guide/
On the website, scrool down until you get on the name of your "Android Number Version" (or just use CTRL+F) and download the "OTA" file (it is a .zip file). You just need to download the "OTA" file. The "FASTBOOT ROM" file (the .tgz file) is not necessary.
With the "OTA" file in your hands, use this tutorial to EXTRACT "boot.img":
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tutorial-android-ota-payload-dumper-on-android.4061799/
And that is it

[Curtana] Does flashing a custom ROM compel disabling force encryption?

First of all, I'm really sorry if this thread would turn out to be a dumb enquiry. I am new to intrinsically customising my phone and only have been using this device (Redmi Note 9S EEA Curtana, MIUI Global V11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM 4/64 GB) for 10 days. I've successfully installed root and TWRP on my phone after having thoroughly researched relevant information. The only thing is all my efforts regarding the removal of force encryption have so far failed. I'm inclined to install a custom ROM, e. g. LineageOs or Evolution X.
1. Is it a necessity to have encryption permanently disabled so that the flashing process proves viable? Currently, I'm only aware of a method which has its effect limited to the the period the phone is in recovery. It involves formatting data and then installing Magisk and thus I need to go through the set-up again. At the end of the operation, encryption is enabled again. I have no clue why. I've tested loads of no verity opt files, none of them worked in a proper way either.
2.Will installing a custom ROM eliminate root acces (since it performs a reinstallation targeting the entire system, let alone the patched boot image)?
3. In case something goes wrong, what's the correct procedure to return to the factory ROM? Is re-locking the bootloader a prerequisite? (See this guide https://c.mi.com/uk/miuidownload/detail?guide=2, for example. Notice how each of the stable MIUI releases there are marked with ★ next to them, meaning they're locked. I didn't quite grasp the message they were trying to convey with that explanation though.)
I'm conscious that's a lot to ask in a single thread, however, unlike myself, the majority of users here are supposedly tech enthusiast and probably have encountered similar difficulties on several occasions.
I hope that I've provided enough information and the thread has been named reasonably.
(Priority: detailed answers within a month would be great.)
Cheers,
Hsjaai
Just format data: twrp->wipe->format data write yes->reboot twrp and flash rom.
If you got error(red lignes reboot twrp and format again).
or
delete all your lockscreen security before flashing but to install a new rom you must format the data before.
Thanks for your quick response, honestly I didn't expect anyone to be this early to react.
As I've already mentioned, in TWRP there's a workaround for temporarily disabling encryption using the first method, the latter one doesn't seem to function as intended - that may be the case on newer devices, according to an article I've come across.
One last request. Could you please (briefly) answer my two other questions as well? How do I reinstall MIUI if something breaks down? Is the flashing apparatus provided by Xiaomi reliable?
I'll keep you updated on my progress,
Hsjaai

Use this tool who is reliable(if you follow the instructions). In all cases unroot before and reboot (if necessary).

Thank you so much once again for the help. What should I do if the worst-case scenario arised -essential parts of the file system got corrupted so that the phone wouldn't be capable of booting into system? Uninstall magisk via zip and then make use of the fastboot tool?

What did you mean by that exactly?
Besides, sorry for bothering you, it's just that I'm genuinely curious and don't want to mess up the process.

With Magisk app
I'm still unsure about something. Will the custom ROM be installed without hassle if I unroot Magisk at the beginning (meanwhile leaving the custom recovery intact, of course)? No guide seems to deem having root installed as a prerequisite. If you answer that, I'm really embarking on the flashing process.

Installing a custom rom (aosp or Miui) requires a data format (erases all data and creates a new partitions if necessary) which will remove root anyway, but sometimes root + twrp creates problems (can't mout the partitions) it is therefore to avoid this that I recommend you to unroot before.
In all cases (Aosp or custom Miui) magisk is installed last.
Which ROM do you want to install?
I'd like to install LineageOS first and see how compatible it is.
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 17.1 for Redmi Note 9S
THERE IS AN OFFICIAL BUILD NOW, USE THAT INSTEAD! Note: this ROM is derived from LeddaZ's build. I will continue to update it until my 9s is on its last legs. Do not expect any features to be added. LineageOS is a free, community built...

The latter is relatively new, although I doubt that site would be credible.

Umm... I've taken my word back, they're XDA developers, not just some random dudes in the internet. Still, you can't be too careful.

What device is Miatoll ?
Hello guys ! For some days or weeks, I see a new codename : Miatoll. I looked and search but I don't find what device is it. Can you helo me ? I wonder if I can flash my phone with a Miatoll Rom
forum.xda-developers.com
Miatoll ROMs are supposed to be compatible with Curtana if I haven't got something wrong... What's the deal with that?
I may consider flashing CherishOS instead, seems neat and the monthly updates appeal to me.

Indeed it is the same.
Others great roms
https://sourceforge.net/projects/blissroms/files/R/miatoll/***
https://downloads.msmxtended.org/?dir=miatoll***
Don't flash magisk right away, check if the playstore is certified.
If not delele your google account and root with the Magisk app.
Of course, if you absolutely want to root your device for other reasons, ignore that.
***certified on redmi note 7
The installation of these should only differ (on a particular device) in the ROM that's being flashed az a zip, right?
For instance, see this guide. Could that be deemed to be applicable to any custom ROM?

Install the right TWRP
Be sure you have the right firmware.
If not flash it.
1)Twrp wipe format data write yes reboot twrp(if error reboot twrp and format again).
2)flash rom
3)reboot system
v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is a turkish rom(android 10)
V12.0.2.0.RJWMIXM is a global rom(android 11)Firmware base for AOSP
It is better to use Miflash and install TWrp after.(dont relock the bootloader).
Are you sure v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is the Turkish version? I thought it was EEA (the one tweaked for European countries). Installing the Global version seems alright, but why does the MIUI version has such a great effect on the outcome of the flashing?
Is that because both Cherish OS and the Global version are AOSP-based?
