!!! Warning mi 9 se ARB !!! - Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Guides, News, & Discussion

So, long story...short.
Do not try to roll back from MIUI 11(Android 10), Xiaomi.eu or Masik ROM or any other MIUI 11 with Android 10, to MIUI 10(Android 9).
You will end up with an expensive brick.
Seems like Xiaomi MI 9 SE has some ARB (anti roll back) system integrated.
The phone will not do anything (no fastboot, no ADB, no recovery, no boot, no nothing, just a black screen). The only mode avalaible will be EDL download mode.
For EDL flash you will need some special authorization from Xiaomi to flash your phone with XiaoMiFlash Tool.
But Xiaomi doesn`t authorize anymore any account.
So...the result...a big fat expensive brick.

Where did you get that information? AFAIK, Mi 9 SE doesn't have ARB enabled. Certainly not xiaomi.eu (https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/9-11-28.53559/). My anti value has been 1 since I have this phone.

Installed the MIUI 11(android 10) on my phone, just to see how things have changed, and then, i tried to restore my backup.
Now, the phone is dead. The only mode available is EDL mode. But, for flashing this phone it needs some kind of authorized account from Xiaomi.
I have send them a mail, but their reply was this :

Well, at least you got a response. My local xiaomi store didn't even answer my emails.
I don't think your problem is about ARB. The same happened to me, doing a full restore. What TWRP did you use?

Did you recover you phone? I don`t know what do do I used @redispade TWRP.

Actually I installed xiaomi.eu first android beta 10 as soon as it came out, to make tests with the latest twrp and now I am running xiaomi.eu miui 11 android 9 stable. It doesn't depend neither on arb, nor android version. You messed up something during flash, or faulty cable or usb port.

The only thing that i have done is to make a full TWRP backup (excl internal storage). Flashed Masik MIUI 11(android 10).
After that, i didn`t like the ROM, and did a restore using TWRP. The backed up rom was the official MIUI 11(android 9).
The restore process went fine, but after reboot I only get a black screen. I`m not saying that your TWRP bricked up my phone.
I`m just saying that people should be aware of this, because they could brick their phones.

Did you format data before restoring?

Yes, but I had to pay someone to remotely login to my phone with an authorized account. I used another TWRP and my guess is that I messed up the bootloader by restoring every partition. But could be something else. I've restored basic partitions (boot, system, vendor and data) several times with redispade TWRP and I've never had big issues.

Yeah, there's probably some partition in there (and here with eu twrp) that bricks the phone.

You don't need to restore every partition, start clean, reinstall the rom, boot the rom, reboot to twrp and restore data and internal storage only

Ok, thank you. So, for example, if I want to try the latest weekly xiaomi.eu ROM, what partition do I have to backup? If I don't like the xiaomi.eu rom, and i want to revert to the latest stable miui 11wich partition do i have to restore, to avoid a brick(again) ? Thank you.

antoher bricked one, not sure if is hard bricked, so same history around... going from crappy Crdroid 6.1 (Android10) to earlier Crdroid 5.8(Android 9) or Mooke, result in unable to communicate with the device. No system installed, but fortunately twrp and fastboot working but unable to contact with my terminal.
I could access twrp's terminal as sudo so any advice ? solution ? I was trying to copy whole adb_key.pub but was a nightmare by hand...

I would update adb/fastboot tools or reboot to recovery and flash a rom (any rom, just to recover system) from usb-otg.

Thanks, I just managed to reconnect again, not sure how I solved, I was tweaking manually from twrp terminal the build.props file , and was weird swapping usb port worked, with windows neither worked.
So I believed I screwed up the adb keys or something in the device, maybe because failed Vendor flash with fastboot.

Just to confirm that I faced the ARB brick while downgrading from Masik Android 10 to Revolution OS Android 9. Two times I faced the problem.
I went to the service center and I was pretending not knowing what was happening to my device. A few days later, I received the phone back to the normal with global ROM. The technician said there was something wrong with the "storage", so he flashed the ROM back.
A week later, I did the same thing again. It happened again. And I just realized it was because of the ROM that has anti-roll back protection while downgrading from android 10 to android 9. I went to the service center again and they happily told me maybe it was the motherboard. So, they changed the motherboard for free. That is my experience about the Mi 9 SE ARB brick.
So, the problem was RevolutionOS or Masik has some kind of ARB brick which causing the phone won't boot up. NO fastboot, No TWRP, No Recovery. Dead. I hope no one would face the same problem like me.

Revert back to MIUI from CM13 if I haven't made any backup

So I flashed the first chinese CM13 build with fingerprint when there was no information about locking bootloader and about making a backup to restore, so I want to go back to MIUI but I don't have any backup to retore so I don't know how to do it, If anyone could tell me and the rest of the people that have done the same as me it would be so thankful.

just go to bootloader unlocked tutorial[not by mi provided offical tool] and flashed miui
First off, this is not the right forum to ask this questions. Second, if you didn’t make EFS backup I don’t think you can make phone calls, send/receive texts or use mobile data in the official MIUI any longer (someone correct me if I am wrong). You can either try a leaked and unstable MIUI (search for it in the forums) or use some new ROM with fingerprint support on this forum (Santhosh’s CM13, ROMs by Siddhesh.K15 and some others). If you are determined to use MIUI you will have to wait until Xiaomi releases an official marshmallow version.

Hmm... Not sure exactly what tutorial @sankhauaa is referring to, but if you just flash any official fastboot, you’ll be fine. Of course in order to restore phone features you will have to install TWRP.
I hardbricked the phone after installing cm13, boot edl and flash fastboot rom, this is the way i've used and phone booted

Honor 10 Hard Bricked Dead Boot

I used HuRUpdater to flash firmware to my Honor 10 and after following the instructions and performing a full wipe data factory reset and rebooted, it wouldn't turn on at all. I tried everything to get into ERecovery or fastboot but nothing. I read that there's is no solution for unbricking 2018 Honor/Huawei devices. Even Funky Huawei doesn't work or Multi Tool.

Yesterday one user was able to succeed updating through [HuRUpdater] and one of my friend was also able to update to one build but it showed different device specs and the same build build you tried hard bricked his device. If my guess is right it is the build issue and not [HuRUpdater] issue.May be I am wrong ?

Btw how does the brick Voids warranty ?
Its just a software issue and is covered in warranty.

I'm in the UK. I'm not exactly sure how bricking voids warranty but my guess would be because the end user is responsible for flashing various software to the device. I do remember seeing on the EMUI website that bootloader unlocking on devices after mid 2018 won't be eligible for bootloader unlocking due to so many hardware bricking cases.
I'm happy with my new OnePlus 6 though. I'll probably have to let go of the hope of recovering the Honor 10 even though I'm making a loss as I was gonna sell it.

Hello Guys,
I had exactly the same problem.
I upgraded to EMUI 9 and everything worked fine but I wanted to go back to EMUI 8.1 so I went to TWRP with the intention of doing a factory restoration and downgrade.
I made a Wipe / data, Wipe dalvic / format all data. After this I waited a lot and it didn´t respond.
I had to force the restart and since then the phone no longer works. Same for me, the phone has no recovery and no OS and no erecovery.
I have contacted the people from FunckyHuawei. I have paid 1 credit in order to unbrick the phone but it did not work. They said that; "It would need to be able to reach rescue recovery mode. If it can not reach that, it may be bricked beyond repair. "
Then I contacted another technician, I connected to my computer remotely and he tried to flash all necessary files via fastboot but some of them failed to flash.
He said it looks like there is no TWRP recovery COMPATIBLE for EMUI9 yet.
Now what to do guys? I will really apreciate any help. The phone has only 3 weeks and I feel so noob now.
Kind Regards,
Gerardo

Hello Max
I have flashed the update.zip using beta-downy_0.4 program
you have to transfer the 3 zip files update.zip, update_all_hw, update_data_public tp the "Zip-Here" Folder.
Then run the "Flash.bat" file and follow the instruction.
The update.zip will install the twrp recovery. Then I flashed the Kernel.img and system.img
after restar the phone was like new with EMUI9. However there are things that are not really well, such like the info in "about phone" is not showing the "compilation number" nor model number, also other options and functionalities has dissapeared but for the rest the phone works fine. At least you can recover the phone. I will do some more research today to fix those issues. I might have to reflash the whole system again.

Hello Max, any news?
In this case i would roll back on emui 8 to make sure that everything works and then go emui 9 by using hisuite 5.0.0.300 and change ip4 dns. Tht should work. I remember on huawei p9 it has to be with an earlier version to be able to pass some main things to the next firmware so you will jot have broken menus. That was upgrading ofc emui 6 to emui 7. I ssume though its something similar

Huawei p30 lite root

Hello everybody.
I have a simple Question about root on this model, is it possible to do?
And if it is possible, tell me how Please.
Best regards
Wojtek
I am looking for the same too
Me too... Looks like it is still impossible
Only paid method and who knows it will be work on my p30 lite......hmm
Hello ppl,
I know this might be a little old.. any way just for the knowledge lets bring this thread back.
I had the same concern for a while, and kind of eager to get mine rooted.. until now.
I managed to unlock mine, and root it succesfully. Latest version of magisk, safty net passed, root essentials running like a charm, I can ADB in to it and su yey!
How? main issue here is my p30 lite MAR-LX3A was already in emui10, and somehow this little sucker wont allow the unlock of the bootloader regardless. I used a unlock tool that is advised to work for this model using testpoint short. how ever it was not working for me, until I read the EMUI had to be downgraded to 9.1.
Once runnig EMUI9.1 I didnt had to re-run the tool it was already unlocked. weird.
Any how the unlocker tool I used was not the ABD/fastboot tools, it was a paid app in case you are still interested in getting it done I can tell you how. Just keep in mind you will need to Open the back cover of the device.
Think is there is no custom recovery image available that works, neither a custom ROM, so all you have is pretty much root access.
I beleive this to be a pretty decent phone so I dont want just to ditch it, I am working to get a TWRP image, if I a managed to so I will get a ROM done as well. Think the whole device has been off the track for dedicated modders and devs, so it has just not been worked on.
which me luck. I'll keep you posted
I used an unlock bootloader service for 15$. First i had to downgrade my emui from 10 to 9.
I can run magisk without problem. My only problem is that i wan't super su. I was able to flash TWRP Recovery 3.2.1.0 (HiSilicon Kirin 710). But i couldn't use it because the folder are encrypted. So if anyone has any idea how to decrypt this let me know

about encryption you usually need to make sure there is no password configured, I read somewhere about a guy that had his Face recognition still configured, and that was the reason he was unable to unencrypt. there are some zips you can flash somwhere around, but never tried them

I deactivated all passwords etc. But it didn't work for me. The only reason i need supersu is because i wan't recover some deleted contacts and mails after factory reset. And those Windows applications with real deep scan not works with magisk.

why dont you try getting an image of the partition with DD, convert it and mount it in the PC directly, I beleive using the scan software directly against the phone is more complicated than just scanning a directly attached block device.

there are a few things to try... you can go to wipe menu in TWRP then use the fix/repair option against the system encrypted partition..
-try reparing it
-try changing the partition from ext4 (check first the type usually ext4) to ext2, then change it back to what it was, ext4
last resource:
-wipe all data/factory reset ***** You WILL loose all your personal data if you do this **** just make a backup MANUALLY before doing this.. if you use TWP backup pbby your back will be encrypted too...
I manage to get mine unencrypted with this last step, took a few attempts, but had to reflash Stock so its back to encryption
Maybe we should create our own TWRP version for the p30 lite. There are many tutorials ^^

agreed I have been working on one that truely works, but there are a few blanks about how TWRP really works.. and its boot process. I have learned a little this past week, but still think gonna have to reverse engineer a working img to get some answers.... I was actually thinking on building a orange fox image better not sure what would be easier..
I have lots of work so I do this in my free time, but let me know if you want a help perhaps we can get something and port a nice ROM that's worth the device
.

Please keep us posted, really excited to see a custom rom for this phone, also could you elaborate on the process of unlocking the bootloader? My back cover is already broken so I have to open it up anyways

Sure, ive been busy but will try my best.. about the unlock process I end up paying 19 euros... But try using fastboot unlock first.. may save you the money not sure...
1. Downgrade to emui 9.1 .. just plug the p30 lite to PC, install hsuite... Go for the firmware/software update... A pop up screen will show up with some small letters buttom rigth.. older releases or revert to older firmware something like that.. you will get too choose 9.1 only ... Choose that and apply.. Keep an eye out.. this will delete everything in your phone... Next boot you will be in 9.1.. avoid the automatic upgrade.
2. Turn the phone off, take the back cover and locate the testpoints.. short by using metal wire... The small aluminium wire wraps that come with bread and other bags for easy close are usefull just remove some plastic in each side... connect the usb cable to PC.. leave the phone side unplugged.. Touch test point with the wire while the other side touches a metal cover in the phone.. while doing it plug the phone to the USB cable.. the charging animation should not appear . . . Screen must stay black.. otherwise do it again.. if done right the device manager will detect COM port for your device
Identify the point with this video
3. use either app you want to detect testpoint mode and unlock... I managed to do it with a 3 day unlimited license for HCU client.. that did the trick their website have some tutorials easy to follow.
Hi all,
I have the same problem like a few other people. I unlocked the phone with HCU, and after I tried to root with magisk (by trwp) But the main issue, the phone is encrypted and the installation proccess of the magisk by the trwp got failed. How can I root this phone? Anybode has success with this?
Thank you!
huawei p30 lite device root support please

Question Mix 4 CN Rom To EU Rom questions..

Hi all, have a few questions that might seem daft to some but need to get my head around it.
I have my Mix 4 and its obviously running the CN Rom. It is littered with bugs and there are many features that do not work or just missing, to the point where i could not use it as my daily driver in its current form.
Ive been reading up on flashing the EU Odin rom, and see alot of the issues are already fixed in it.
So after 4 hours of faffing i have managed to request a bootloader unlock. and i understand this will be a full wipe and reinstall.
This is my first question 8 days wait!
1: how do I keep an eye on the time left?
2: I have what i think are all the files ready to go to flash, but i understand this is done through fastboot?
3: So no OTA updates after this i would have to keep reflashing manually.?
4: I here something about TWRP that would enable this, but dont quite understand the process, or where do the updates then come from?
5: Are there any security issues like running Banking applications after unlocking, as i think it plays with security issues.
Hope someone with better understanding can help.
Hi...
1) I use my calendar to see when the time is right to resume the unlocking process
2) there's tutorial for this ...
[ROM][MIUI][odin] Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4
How to install Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4 We will release fastboot ROM versions until TWRP for odin is released Steps to install xiaomi.eu ROM for first time from China ROM (All your data and files on internal storage will be deleted!) -...
forum.xda-developers.com
3) yes... no OTAs from within the system, but ...
4) with TWRP you can flash the updates. You need to check,if the update-files are marked 'fastboot' or 'recovery'(TWRP)
5) Can't answer that one.
Good Luck.
Ok thanks for your help, still deciding to take the plunge or not, expensive bit of kit. Awhile to decide i guess.
so sorry another question, if we do this one withough twrp, can we just updat or is it a complete flash again?

Updating through TWRP should leave your apps and data intact.
Edit:It was way to early to answer the question... without twrp, only fastboot is possible as far as i know. When i used fastboot, i made a complete clean flash.
So once you have done it through fastboot you can use TWRP thereafter, thats cool.
I believe a CN to EU is a data wipe anyway.

Ok guys managed to unlock my phone and flash the rom, all seemed ok untill it started updating my apps, and then gets stuck on app 8 of 144 and just will never progress?.
It seems i have somehow flashed a slightly older rom, so going to reflash with the latest, but i dont want to do fastboot again as i have to keep manually updating, is there a twrp yet?

Did you follow ALL instructions of the tutorial? How exactly did you proceed?
I think I accidentally tried to restore a google backup from my old phone, guess there was an app it didnt like, anyway reflashed to 21.9.8 and all is going well, amazing improvement over the original. very pleased.
Been having a play and only found 1 issue as yet, when you lock an open app in recents, you can still swipe it away?.

Thanks for replying. Did you have to do anything special like Magisk hide to hide that you rooted the phone?
Im not rooted, just running custom rom. I have no need to root.
What if I want to go from EU to CN? Bought the phone. It came with EU rom. But I would like to install the official rom.

Question (Solved) Pixel 6 Stuck on Google Logo. Help please!

I need help please! I flashed a custom kernel using kernel flasher but now it's stuck on the Google logo(Where it loads), I did not disable verity and verification as I did not want to wipe the device( So the problem may lie within it). I am able to get to fastboot but the problem is I do not have a computer at the moment, so I used can use bugjaeger with another device... Usually I have a PC at my disposal and could've have fixed the problem. Sorry for the hindering english.
Note: I manually updated the factory image of April (I was on the April build) but now when press start on the bootloader menu it shows the Google logo and come backs to the fastboot mode. Thank you all in advance.
You're going to need access to a computer to be able to fix that if you don't want to wipe phone

What would be the methods for that? I'm going to have access to my PC soon.
https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/ Use this it should fully repair and install a new stock pixel 6 os. It will loose all of its data tho.

Used android flash... By another device nonetheless. Just a few tweaks and everything was fine. Did not lose any data except root. Not disabling verity and verification can cause a lot of problem.
