Video on Telephoto / Ultrawide & Super Slow Motion coming? - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Questions & Answers

Hi Oppo Forum,
After using a Nokia Lumia 1020 for over 5 years, I had been on the look out for a good camera phone (something that can come close to the 1020 legend but not cost a bomb). Almost decided on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom as it is an attractive package! However based on my research, I know some camera functionality is missing for now. Keen to know if it will come in a software update. These are:
1. Video recording using the Wide Angle and Telescopic lenses (in addition to the main 48 MPx lens).
2. Super Slow motion recording at greater than 240 fps (up to 960 fps). Even lower phones like the Honor View 20 have it already!
Would love to buy the phone if both of these are assured in future updates!

In beta Android 10 update added 5x for video but is working with main camera. Where do you read that?

The phone's camera is a beast in my opinion (ask any other user) and about the slow-mo, the phone can do 480 fps at 720p and 960fps in lower phones are interpolated fake frames and not real 960fps. The camera itself should have inbuilt cache memory to capture such 960fps and imx586 in the oppo , OnePlus 7 and redmi k20 pro doesn't have it. The redmi k20 pro can do 960fps but interpolated frames and it looks bad.(I tested it personally).

I saw one user in other post commenting to check the megapixel from google photo but when i check photo detail in google photo ,it doesnt show the megapixel of camera.....

I read that the camera combines input from 4 pixels into a single "ultra pixel" type construct, so you get less noise and ultimately a better shot. So though there are 20 million pixels, they generate 5 million pixels worth of data. That's quite a lot - should be plenty for your needs!

That may be.
But the sensor is a 5 mega pixel sensor only and they have said that its a 20 mp sensor.
That's what i'm trying to say!

I can't understand what this fuss is all about?
Rather than stressing on the specs and megapixels isn't it better to look at the results. For me the selfie quality is more than acceptable specially in this price range and coupled with the latest gen processors, ram, storage etc it becomes great in my opinion and make it a balanced phone.
Manufacturers will always use creative advertising to lure customers

As a customer i need to know what i'm purchasing and even though the quality is good they might have lied to us about the sensor and the miui camera might just stretch the 5 mp photo to a 20 mp photo.
what if they told you its a snapdragon 845 but they give a snapdragon 835..the results would still be good. You would be okay with that?

Well technically u can't say they r wrong. If it is mentioned it is a 20 mp selfie camera and they collate 4 mp x 5 and make it 20, where's the legal problem. Yes morally and ethically it can be questioned like all the mfr recognising benchmarking apps and pushing their system to give false high reading.
It would have been wrong if instead of Sony imxxx sensor on the rear they put in some inferior one.
Imho thisbselfi camera cannot be equates to putting inn835 instead of sd845

Well, technically, they are right. The sensor they buy and put in those phones is 20mp. They then, by software at the OS level, "bin" 4 0.8µ pixels together to get bigger "effective" pixels.

The sensor is not 5mp. It is 20mp as stated in all the marketing guff. The data is interpolated to generate higher quality 5mp pictures.
There may be ways to generate noisy 20mp RAW files but it would be a fool's erand just to get a worse selfie pic 4 times the filesize.
The information I have was just as available to you as it was to me ahead of buying the device. No point sounding all butthurt just because you don't really understand something.

OP you are commpletely wrong.BTW talked to AIDM64 dev, he was saying MI is usinng non standard API, which could be reason for wrong value.It's 20MP physical camera.Through software they do pixel binning and convert back to 20MP.

Lack of OIS, does it matter to you?

I've personally had my eyes on the Mi 9 for a while since the first set of leaks came out, as the leaks got more & more specific & started to list the camera specifications I noticed immediately the lack of OIS & assumed it was just left off there accidentally, then when it was announced yesterday it was confirmed not to have OIS, admittedly at first it did put me off slightly as not having such a feature on a 2019 flagship seemed ridiculous to me, now however I'm not sure & will wait till the event on the 24th, let me know what you guys think & if it's important to you.
Without OIS you get bad pics at night. Video is okay with EIS but without OIS, you can't fix that.
When I pay over 400€, OIS is a must have.
With OIS you can only get better pictures of static scene at night or lower light. Does not apply to kids, pets or any moving objects that get blured out thanks to slower shutter speed compared to sensors without OIS that must use faster shutter speeds by design. For video OIS is useless. So it is understandable that OEMs like Xiaomi are cutting costs on OIS that you have very limited range of use. Basically only usecase today's is night static scene and that is not worth extra cost/devide thickness for aggressive priced devices like MI 9.

They should have sacrificed a camera or 2 just for the ois
For the price l'm not crying about OIS. If i want it that bad I'll pay the premium elsewhere.

It'll be interesting for sure to see how especially night photography will turn out with the Mi 9 vs the competition with OIS. Do we have a whitepaper somewhere that would show exactly how for example HDR+ (Google) works? Does it use a longer exposure for the shots, especially on Night Mode, or are the images that are stitched together taken with a relatively short exposure? (ie potentially possible even without OIS)
@D1G1TE OIS useless in videos? Man, than I need to tell you, that EIS works only in 30fps modes, so you are left absolutely without any stabilization in video, my mi 8 will record better 60fps videos (of course as soon as it's get update for it )
If OIS is compensated in the software section. Like they said in hands on. It doesn't bother me.

The GSM Arena review has convinced me the camera will be superior for my needs.
I don't believe I've ever had a phone with OIS - it is tricky to miss what you don't have!

The GSM Arena review mentions it in the Video section
EIS is available for both cameras and all common resolutions (4K, 1080p and 720p), but it works only for the 30fps modes. The digital stabilization does a great job smoothing the camera shake at the expense of minor loss of FoV.

From how I read it, with the position sensor immediately informing the VCM to adjust, that means that OIS isn't necessarily needed, however whether it's possible is a different matter entirely I think
I find it a strange story. If you compare those drawings it looks to me it's an enhanced OIS. Now with a positioning sensor.
Why didn't they market this aspect better...?? It wasn't been told in the presentation.

Because it's inferior to OIS, basically the "closed loop motor" can focus faster & more accurate thanks to the positioning sensor, however in regards to stability OIS wins because it isn't fixed, you'll see quite a few Mi 9 owners complaining over blur in night shots, this is because when the persons had shakes there is no OIS to compensate.
Edit: I saw inferior because if you look at the Mix 3's focusing it was perfectly fine imo, we've lost OIS for something that wasn't necessarily "bad" in the first place.
This is how I think it works based on my own research, Xiaomi didn't really give us any information on it themselves, so if anyone more knowledgeable has more to add or correct, feel free

I read somewhere that the fact Mi 9 is using a larger sensor, and because of this fitting OIS wasn't possible. Do you know of any phone with the Sony IMX586 sensor that has OIS? This doesn't explain why eg the telephoto sensor and lens doesn't have OIS though ?

The Honor View 20 uses the IMX586 & that too doesn't have OIS it uses EIS & AIS. There is also another Xiaomi device, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, which has the IMX586 & again, there is no OIS, assuming they're the only devices that use the IMX586 then it's confirmed that there is no OIS possible with the IMX586

Poco F1 Front Camera Fix New Finding

Hello devlopers and friends Ever since I brought poco f1 and installed gcam and other third party camera apps my front camera resolution drops to 5mp. Only official camera app is able to use 20 mp resolution.
I know there are many threads about pixel Bining and stuff but i don't agree with them. The main problem is at the end a 5Mp Image is 5Mp and 20 Mp is 20 mp.
But i think and request devlopers to please look to it.
## According to my theory As confirmed by Device info Harware app There are three camera sensors in poco F1 out of which the one with camera ID 0 is 13 the one with camera ID 1 is 20 and with camera ID 2 is is 5 megapixel.

This process is the procedure of combining a cluster of pixels into a single pixel. As such, in 2x2 binning, an array of 4 pixels becomes a single larger pixel, reducing the overall number of pixels.

Lets agree gcam uses pixel Bining and stuff.
But why other apps detect and capture 5mp are they all using pixel Bining.
And why only Mi Camera can capture at full potential of the sensor. Is there a catch we all are ignoring.
Pixel Bining or not at the end when zoomed 5Mp image is storing lesser data .
And also imagine a 20mp full resolution shot with gcam cam make things go from OK to wow.

It doesn't really change anything. And it doesn't mean more resolution = more quality. It is a matter of fact of image processing. If you really compare MIUI Stock Camera and Google Camera, you will see the big difference from the two since that Stock Camera doesn't uses Pixel Binning algorithm

Pixel binning gives better shots in low lighting conditions only. No significant difference in well lit conditions. Thats why i want to capture with full resolution in Google camera because its awesome.
Also if pixel binning is so justified why don't we capture 3 mp photo with rear camera and say its better than 13mp because its not

Then use the stock camera if you really wanted the 20mp. Use gcam if you wanted better image processing.
This was explained a long time ago and it is really not a big issue or some conspiracy about the 20mp sensor
Yes it is a issue One plus devices had this issue Zen devices had issues similar in Auxiliary camera regarding resolutions on gcam. All those were fixed due to efforts of devlopers.But i think people just want to accept everything and not work it out. If some one can try to find a fix there will be a fix. But if everyone just accept the fate lie down nothing is gonna happen

Dude, you are suggesting your gcam is taking front selfies with rear 5MP sensor?
A 20MP image is only twice as big 5MP image. Not 4 times big.
Gcam 5MP selfie carries much more details than 20MP MiUi camera, day or night. Period. MiUi camera does a lot smoothening.

Or maybe gcam does lot's of sharpening to make them look "detailed" zoomed out? When zoomed in you can see tiny coloured squares.
Update I used Redmi note8 Pro and Redmi k20 pro with gcam They all produce 5 mp front and 12mp back irrespective of the sensor resolution. Maybe gcam only supports these resolution maximum.
Honestly i would love larger resolution support with gcam .
In k20pro gcam can take images in 48 MP resolution
In back But issue is in front it only takes with 5mp resolution and this 5MP resolution is useless when you zoom the image or see it laptop you can see amount of noise.This really need a fix .

Actually Gcam detects full one Megapixel when individual pixel size is more that 1.1 π size..
Poco f1 or other Xiaomi phone with 20mp sensor has individual pixel size of 0.8/0.9/1.0 π size.
But Gcam detect full 13mp in my Redmi note 5 AI because the sensor's pixel size is 1.12 π.
Thus even in my old device has a 13mp insane Gcam selfie.

Question Photo resolution

New owner of Pixel6 here. I have question about photos resolution. I upgraded from prehistoric Motorola Moto X Force. Photos from this phone was in "full chip resolution" - 21Mpx. It was very good when I tried to record some details (little cracks, surface imperfections) in my work. Just zoom to 100% and voila! And without "standard" camera device.
Pixel 6 have 50Mpx sensor (by specification), but photos have only 12Mpx. So I have only half of details compared to old Moto. Is possible to make photos with higher resolution? I dont need full 50Mpx, but about 20MPx can be very nice.

The option to take a 50mpx shot would be nice but would require some specific lighting conditions
think its called pixel binding? Where 1 pixel has 4 sub pixels so thats why its 12.5mp x 4 = 50mp. This way it can take 4 photo's in 1 time with different exposure so that tricks like HDR etc gets done on the fly.
As of now you can't use the full 50 mp on the Pixel since as stated it does Pixel binning to give 12 MP images.
If you need high MP then maybe phones like S21 Ultra maybe a better option.
Or unless google activates the option in future updates if it's possible.
It's possible because my Huawei P20 Pro did the same trick and offered full res without the AI 0hoto features. Don't know if Google wants to do that since it will let the overall hdr etc
Use the digital zoom function. The resulting file should still be 12.5 Mpx

Question Anyones s23 ultra selfie camera make a click/pop sound when closing/swiching out of it?

When I am in the selfie camera and i open the gallery preview on the bottom left or close the camera app i hear this click sound coming from the front facing selfie camera. Also when i look super closely after switching or closing the app, i can see the selfie camera move backwards kinda.
Im aware of the rear cameras having OIS so it moves around and makes some sound but this seems to be coming from the front facing camera. I never switched to the back cameras so they never activated.
Can you guys with the 23 ultra test this and see if you have it too, im not sure if its normal behavior.

When I am in the selfie camera and i open the gallery preview on the bottom left or close the camera app i hear this click sound coming from the front facing selfie camera. Also when i look super closely after switching or closing the app, i can see the selfie camera move backwards kinda.
Im aware of the rear cameras having OIS so it moves around and makes some sound but this seems to be coming from the front facing camera. I never switched to the back cameras so they never activated.
Can you guys with the 23 ultra test this and see if you have it too, im not sure if its normal behavior.

The Front Facing Camera have auto focus so there is a lens that moves forward and backward , and may be thy added OIS secretly like apple did with IP14PM

Of course the camera has OIS... It's a flagship. It would be basically criminal for it NOT to have optical image stabilization. Also, the iPhone Pro Max series has had OIS since at least the 12 Pro Max (in fact Apple claimed it had dual optical image stabilization, meaning the telephoto had it as well). Not having OIS means blurry images in anything less than the utmost stable of hands when taking a photo and it's why I hated my OnePlus 9 and wished I bought the 9 Pro even though I didn't want the curved screen. Were you thinking of some other feature?
