delayed ring - Nokia 7.1 Questions & Answers

Don't know if this is s problem or a 'feature' but when i call my nokia7.1 from another phone i can hear 2 rings in the earpiece of the calling phone before, on the third ring, the Nokia springs to life and starts ringing and display the notification.
Is this normal? Is there anything i can do to make Nokia ring immediately?
my other, non-nokia phones, all ring as soon as i hear the ring tone in the phone from which i ring them.
Hope someone can suggest something as I'm missing some calls because of this.
Thanks

not 100% sure, but i think i have this too. just got the phone though, and haven't been able to test it with multiple callers...
very annoying

I've got a lot of friends who are too impatient to wait for more than 2 rings before hanging up. I've been telling people to ring me on WhatsApp since this seems to ring immediately. Not impressed with this 'feature'

vibrating alert

I took my ameo apart the other day to fix a speaker and noticed that it had i slot for a vibrating alert. so I took apart my old dead o2 xda ii and the motor fitted in perfectly, trouble is the ameo has no software to switch it on so its useless on the whole. does anyone know of a way to add this missing software? as it is built into the rom it would be hard to add seeing how its never had one anyway.

This was brought up in a previous thread. But i've seen in the past something that enabled you to change profile, with the option to turn vibrate on adn off. I can't remember where I seen it though. Do a search maybe you'll come up luckier than me.
Hi, perhaps it can help : some skins of WISBAR Advance show the option.
But this doesn't mean it can really activate it...
its strange, its all setup for the motor inside, its as if they changed there mind last moment. it would be handy in my job to have it working, I guess the only real way is to take the software out of another rom with one and install it into the athena rom. i will keep searching.

wisebar is just the wallpaper for the real software behind I think, I dont think it is much trouble to add the button but its the rest. just because the slot and track is there, maybe some of the components are missing also. But im guessing here
Maybe vibrating alarm and the built-in microdrive won't like each other ?

I think that that is the most likely answer. I'm sure it would be OK at first but could damage things in the end,
I also remember reading about this somewhere. Seems like someone said vibrate was going to be incorporated, but was not because of the microdrive. I saw a vibrating motor that was only 3mm x 11mm. Maybe less vibrate would have less effect on the drive. Software though, hmmmmmmmm.......

The Better solution and answer provided some time ago was to make a recording of another device vibrating (i.e.: sitting on a desk or table) then using that audio file as the ringtone. It won't shake the innards of your Athena and if anyone in a meeting or where ever hears it, they wouldn't likely know the difference.

I just don't understand people who say the vibrating sound thing is a solution. If the pda is in your pocket, how does the vibrate sound let you know you have a call. You do not even hear it. It is the actual vibration that would let you know you have a call. i would give up the microdrive in a second for a real vibrate mode!
And besides hearing a vibrating phone in a meeting is just as bad as hearing it ring. So the idea would be to notify you that you have a call and others would not hear it.

If you are putting Athena in your pocket, you must be a BIG person or wear oversized clothes. IMHO Athean is not a pocket device (too big), but having the sound of a vibrating phone with the volume towards low is only audible very near the device. I would agree with your comment on being annoying if it were on loud. Perhaps those who absolutely want to vibrate should look towards the X7510 which has the 16GB flash instead of uDrive, and work on the hack to make it available as a ring setting.
Try to use standard HTC Home - it has possibility to choose vibra tone ( but I'm not shure if it send signal to vibra)

As it happens, I'm 6 foot 3 and weigh around 23 stone (325 lbs) so i meet both of those criteria. I have no problem with fitting this thing in my pocket.
Still, i don't do it cos i don't want to forget it's in there and crack the screen if i sit on it! Personally, vibration is not a problem for me, cos if I'm in a meeting or somewhere I can't answer the phone, i put it on silent and deal with everything afterwards.
Just because I CAN be contacted at any time on my mobile, doesn't necessarily mean that I WANT to be contacted.....
off topic :Woot! 100 posts.....
I almost posted this yesterday and didn't, but I feel the need to back up eagle 1. A recording of a vibrating phone is not a solution. I need vibrate here: in the car with the radio turned up, in a meeting, in a movie or performance theater. A quiet buzzing recording will be missed every time. There are times when I must be available, like when the kids are home with a babysitter.
The fact that HTC designed vibrate into our phones and then left it out is a real shame. I too would have given up the MD to get vibrate.
The Athena fit's quite nicely in my suite jacket pocket, or, indeed, the inside pocket of my leather jacket - either way, when I'm out I often can't hear the ring but would be able to feel a vibrate.
Ok Guys, based on your scenarios, here are some vibrating bluetooth options.

Bracelet, watch, wear it while driving, in a meeting, at the movies. . . . .
And if you don't want to tie up yout bluetooth, there is this gizmo:

Actually the Athena fits pretty good in a coat pocket and even better if you ditch the keyboard and cover. When I am out I do this along with carrying the Style-i.
raskell - that's why I bought the Jabra BT8010 which has vibrate, although the motor is so small I sometimes miss it when its in the pocket of my jeans. Not as good as an industrial-strength vibrate would have been built-in to the Athena.
Hey, the more vibrating accessories you can get, the better your chance of not missing a call!
I would suggest making a Mortscript with a vibrate command. I'm not sure what component Mortscript relies on to vibrate but it seems it's incorporated into itself.
Now, my question is did you see any place to slip in an earpiece?

Flip for Speakerphone Working?

Can't get it to work and it is checked on in settings. Is there a trick to it? I've tried face down and face up and only while on outgoing call that is still ringing, not during a connected call. Is that the problem? That would seem weird to me.
Also, when I first started researching phones, one of the first ones I looked at had a feature that when you got a call if you turned it over it would silence the ringer. I have a feeling it was the Moto Droid though. Anyone know if there's an app to do that on the RZD or if I'm mistaken and it has that feature?
From my understanding, u must be in "normal" sound profile for flip speaker to work. Also the ringer does go silent* when u pick it up.
*maybe not silent, but ringer does get alot lower

It's in normal.
I haven't noticed that with the ringing but I'm thinking more of a silence the phone and ignore it sort of situation. Like if I'm at work or with a friend and the phone rings I can just turn it over and it will stop.
Mine works. I accidently got it to work actually. Sat the phone down while talking to someone then all of a sudden they got loud. Everytime I have tried it sense it has work.
was one of the first things I discovered on my rezound, and I love it. I use it quite often actually haha. There is a setting in the menu to enable or disable it, as well as the silence if you move the phone while it's ringing.
Settings > Sound settings under incoming calls
I used to have these extra settings checked, but i read somewhere that it drains the battery faster. Maybe the sensors detecting the orientation of the phone causes some battery drain, but im not positive about that.
It works really well on mine. If there's a battery issue, maybe you want to check what power settings you're in. I keep mine in performance, since that also seems to cause less problems with 4G turning off. Also check if your sensors are working, maybe with a tilt game or something similar. I've had it on the whole time and it doesn't seem like I get less battery life than what people report, at least not obviously.
Just tested this out, and it seems like the speaker phone flip and silence ringer flip only work when the phone is on a flat surface. The phone lowers the volume of the ring when you pick it up, but mutes it completely if you flip it face down on a flat surface. The speakerphone works the same way, at least I couldn't get it to activate without putting the phone down.

I tested the muting the rings when you turn it over and that worked, then when I answered it my friend hung up! She didn't know the second part of the test. lol. Then our food came and we stuffed our faces. Then we had to go to a stupid 3 hour safety training class that didn't apply to our department AT ALL. Oh well...
I wonder if it needs the sensor covered up as well as being turned over, the one that makes the screen turn off when you hold it to your ear.
Yep, I think that's it. If you turn it over and don't lay it on a table no speakerphone, but if you then just cover that sensor with your hand it goes to speakerphone. Problem with this function is when you turn it back over speakerphone turns off. Guess I'll just turn on speakerphone the old fashioned cumbersome way. Was hoping to just be able to flip it over and back. Oh well.

lol in a crowded room with your family, talking to your GF bout all the sexytimes that are gonna occur later.......lol

Is This Normal?

I've noticed on my S2 that during all calls if you listen for it or the person stops talking there is background noise like putting your ear to a sea shell not very loud but you definitely can hear it even when someone is speaking. People on the other side say they can't hear anything bad and that I'm coming through very clear.
Is this normal I don't have my old LG Rumor 2 to test with which was on the same network but I don't recall ever hearing anything like that then I would probably notice like I have now.
Is this normal with this phone if not what else could it be related too?
yes, it is normal as you may have the volume to high. You may get some background static.
Is it with every call, it could be because they're on a bad network
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yea it's on every call I called a pizza place where a machine answers and I still heard it, maybe its from high volume and I'm obsessing I don't know lol.
Guess it's better than an echo!
Does anybody know why there is a little sound when I call out? Just before the dialtone ringing, something to do with the phone settings?
Thanks

[Q]Microphone and Ear Speaker not working

So I bought a new Photon 4g 1 month ago, havent rooted it, no unlocked bootloader yet.
Some days ago I was just calling someone and I didnt hear the beeps you get, when you wait for someone to pick up the phone... It was silent for some time and I checked the screen - No mute, Speaker on, And call duration is 00:13 and counting... I thought it could be fixed with a reboot, but It didnt work.
So today I found out that the Microphone is not working too... I was recieving call from my dad, and I already knew I have the problem. I just picked up the phone and said, that my phone is broken and I cant hear him. He just kept calling and calling me and when I met him, he said that he didnt hear a thing.
So is it just me, or do you think its weird too, that both - ''Ear speaker'' and microphone breaks at the same time. Or are they connected?
I downloaded some Volume control apps and nothing was muted. Everything was loud. Call volume on max. Can this be fixed by something or I need to get the phone to a repair shop?

Yep totally sounds hardware related. Wouldn't hurt to do a factory reset to make sure.

[Q] Top speaker quality in viber

Hi,
I was using my old Galaxy s3 to call & txt fiance using viber in states, now that I have sold it to mazuma mobile I have used viber to call her for the first time on my z2 & I could barely hear her at all on the top speaker & had to put phone on speaker phone just to hear her , normal call quality is pretty good on mobile calls, volume was up full. She could barely hear me as well, I turned off noise cancellation in call settings & she could hear me a bit better but said it was still quiet.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
Cheers.
Have you tried moving the phone around on your ear? Sounds silly, but because of the placement of the speakers, its not as natural as other phones i've used imo (or maybe its how tall the phone is). I found the same issue at first, then i moved the phone around on my ear until the speaker and my ear lined up right and the sound was normal.
Yeah mate, moving the phone around my ear was first thing I tried, I don't have issues with normal calls but speaking to her on viber it's almost like the speaker volume is set really low & I could barely hear her at all, since I call her in the early hours I would rather not have to put the call on speaker phone.

Ah okay. I did a quick google search and it looks like its hit or miss for some devices, so it might be on their end. This thread has a Viber rep responding in it to the same problem, or at least a couple months ago he was(no real solution, other than reporting it).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307492
Also there's an app suggestion in there that a member says helped, and another one would be master volume (i think thats the name). I don't really use Viber, so i'm not much help other than that.
Cheers again for the reply mate, have checked that thread out & also posted in it hoping they will still be checking it, checked the apps mentioned in play store & most haven't been updated since 2011, I do think the issue is like you say more on Viber's end as the volume was fine on my now sold Galaxy S3.
Might have to check out Line or similar apps & get her to do the same as Viber is almost unusable due to this, connection quality was excellent all through the call so I think Viber just need to update or optimise it for the Z2.
Same problem man, here is a fix that worked for me, note 3 international version:
