Any news on official Android 10 yet? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

I got my S9+ update to A10 a few days back.
Anyone seen any expected release schedule for the Tab S6 (official release schedules please, not some rumour from twitter, reddit, my brothers dogs pet cat, etc....).
Please post a link or screenshot if you have, saves people immediately asking where you got the info from.

It's literally a google search away:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/11/29/samsung-android-10-roadmap/
Or if you're too lazy to open the link, it's coming in April.
Or, you can open the Samsung Members app, and under Notices, you'll find the relevant info for your country.

Or before april cuz tab s6 5g version shipped with Android 10

Honestly what really annoys me is the lack of monthly updates. They call it a flagship tablet but my tab s6 is still stuck at the december 1st update, meanwhile my s10+ received the january and february update already.
Great security by samsung!

Just my thoughts,yestarday updated my S10+ ....

Sadly even if it is their "flagship" tablet it's not a huge priority for Samsung since the market is smaller. Honestly, I feel like Samsung makes tablets with the leftover OLED screen from the wafer and hopes no one notices the uniformity issues and ships them off. They get away with it since there really aren't that many "premium" pure Android tablets on the market anymore sadly.

Samsung don't give a ****...tab s6 don't play even HDR just stuttering and that's all....this was my first tablet ever and it will be the last samsung tablet!

What I don't get is why Samsung even BOTHERS to make these damn devices. If they don't sell enough to keep the security updates coming monthly, then there isn't enough to justify making them at all! I'm about done with Samsung's bull**** and go all in on Apple because at least I know then I'll get timely updates and security patches. FFS...

Bonjour ,

Par contre chez Samsung , on a le calendrier des mises à jour majeurs des tablettes haut de gamme ?.

It's still some profit for them I assume since they're using leftover display material from the out cut of the wafer. That is why there are numerous reports with screen uniformity issues and it doesn't cost them much to piece these together. That's the only reason why the price dropped down to $500ish so soon after release on "sales".

Are you joking? The last security update on the Tab S6 was a little over two months ago.
That's about the same timespan between the latest iOS bugfix- updates. Major updates take much longer at Apple (1-2 years), and they don't arrive for all devices or all regions at once, either. Also I like to remember that Apple also abandons their own hardware, although they make the OS themselves. They literally broke the internet connectivity for a number of older devices, last year.
What do you expect from a new update that can't wait until the pending Android 10 release in a few weeks? Is there any urgent security issue that you are aware of that hasn't been fixed?

But of course! Google announced since December several security issues and fixed them but Samsung doesn't care about the security of their newest tab at all. And yes, I expect a security patch up-to-date before android q!

They definitely do care.
The Tab S6 gets quarterly security updates, and the Android 10 update will roll out in a matter of weeks: security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb

... quarterly?!? It should be monthly. Even the ex flagship s8 has got the February security patch. Android Q is officially accounted for April though ... .
Btw. I'm curious if they will fix their horrible soft ware, which seams to be made for phones not for tablets. E.g. not rotating volume keys and apps, missing vibration options, no download boost for the LTE version etc..

Only the flagship phones and Enterprise Models get monthly security updates. The "Tab S"-series gets quarterly security updates. Apple doesn't even give their flagship models monthly security updates. I agree that critical issues should be fixed as soon as possible at all times.
But still your rant/comparison is uncalled-for, in my opinion, because they are already doing better than Apple.
If you want a device with monthly security updates, you will need to get a Samsung Galaxy Note. (PS: you should wait for the new Note 20 model because it is rumoured to come with LPDDR5).

... last autumn I just got tab s6 so I intend to stick with it for some years, like I did with tab S (my wife is using it now). My s8 is now around 2.5 years, I will get a new one in 1.5 years or so ... Tab S and S6 have a great HW though but the soft ware ..., well

Wow security patches seems everyone is here talks about them. Fixes and new functions constant inconsistencies that i report and they never seem to be looked by anybody but anyway security patches are of utmost importance sonwe speak about them (no). Last one that annoys me in specific case - free rotation 360 is still not enforced on tablets, most of apps can overide it. Tablet has like loopsided screen everywhere and they talk about some patches that nobody Here even should even receive coz of root.

You do realise quarterly means only 4 updates for the entire years. 4 little updates for a flagship device.
Also its march 12, its been a quarter and still nothing.......
I guess they will skip this one and do the April android 10 update.

Android O on LG G5, when ?

Hello, Android 8.0 will be released very probably next week on Pixel phones and later in the month for Nexus phones.
This is a bit earlier than Android previous versions, so can we expect a fast deployment from LG ? For example before 2018 ?
Thank you.
Around March 2018. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the lady major update we get though.
Unless they announce it, don't get your hopes up. Even if they do announce it, it may only be certain devices in certain regions.

U.S. bans American companies from selling to ZTE

What do you guys think will happen to XTE as a result of this news? Multiple articles have the same info so I don't think it's fake. Could this mean we will lose a major competitor in the US market?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ling-to-chinese-phone-maker-zte-idUSKBN1HN1P1
It doesn't seem fake sadly. Androidpolice said the same : https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/04/16/new-us-ban-zte-means-might-not-axon-8/
I was just about to post a thread on this as well, but you were faster
Anyway, if this will really be for next 7 years, then there won't be an axon successor or at least not a good one, since mediatek is still lacking behind. Although they are getting better at every year on making processors. Its still sad news tho
Sent from my ZTE A2017G running V1.2.0B08 using XDA Labs
Oh no, that's not good. And here I was thinking of getting an Axon 9. Guess I'll continue to play the waiting game to she what ZTE says about this.
https://www.androidcentral.com/zte-banned-using-us-based-hardware-or-software-its-products
This means no more Axon successor as expected with Snapdragon. It also means a crippled Android with no license to Google services. It effectively means no Axon 9 and the end of ZTE's business in its current form.
For current devices they can't release any updates that include license to Google's apps and services. Won't see official Oreo now unless they remove all the Google licensing.
Sent from my ZTE Axon 7 using XDA Labs
Well that's ****ty. I can't say I feel sorry for a company that agrees to legal terms and doesn't abide by them.
Very disappointed with this.
If it does kill Oreo for A7 I will look at unlocking and rooting mine, make changes and un-root.
Someone at ZTE should "leak" the update and sources before **** fully hits the fan.....
This is a showstopper.
Perhaps we will find very cheap 2nd hand ZTEs in a near future...
Regards
ZTE does not only disappoint itself, but also their customers. Great job, guess I can avoid this company now.
As someone mentioned above, I sure as hell hope someone leaks the update because we have waited a long time for this and it was almost complete in the third round of testing. All of the effort put into developing the update would be wasted if they decide not to release it, not to mention all the customers it would disappoint.
I have owned Android devices since 2012 and the Axon 7 has been the biggest let down for me, unfortunately. I think from now onwards I will only consider Chinese manufacturers with a better reputation like Xiaomi. Maybe I will look at getting the Mi Note 3 since it has such an excellent camera. It would be nice if more manufacturers adopted 120Hz displays like the Razer Phone and iPad Pro.
Calm down...
ZTE is still allowed to sell their products in the USA. And We, europeans exists. USA are not the only market in the world. If ZTE can't use Qualcomm anymore, this is a big problem for Qualcomm and not such a big one for ZTE.
They still can use other processors from other manufacturers.
And I really trust we all gonna have Oreo.
Envoyé de mon ZTE A2017G en utilisant Tapatalk
The current situation with ZTE company is very serious.
All ZTE phone users become collateral damage.
It leaves ZTE’s use of Android in a potential quandary.
The software is released under the open source license,
which means that ZTE can presumably continue to install it on its smartphones and tablets.
However, that doesn’t include Google’s specific apps for Gmail, the Google Play store, Google Maps, and other software.
Use of those is governed by the Mobile Application Distribution Agreement, or MAPA, a contract signed between Google and device OEMs.
Without that agreement – which, it would appear at first glance,
Google would no longer be able to extend to ZTE
under the terms of these sanctions – ZTE’s phones
could not be considered Android certified.

P.S.
We do not want to stay forever blocked on Android 7
Would this affect lineage os 15.1?
I love my Axon 7, but this could mean I have to jump ship.
This is the result of an American aggressive imperialist policy, innocent victims. It will not be long.
Reuters is reporting at least one analyst that says this may be resolved in 3-5 months:
"But Jefferies also said it expected ZTE would be able to settle with U.S. authorities in three to five months."
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...nies-from-selling-to-chinas-zte-idUSKBN1HN1P1
The bottom line is that ZTE has always been cautious to a fault about their US flagships after the Axon 7, probably because the US market takes so many resources and is so hard to compete in. The Axon 7 was an incredible value but failed to become a bona fide hit, and they seem skittish about their commitment to the US even in the best of times. So my guess? An effective 3-5 month ban is better but still may spook them enough to derail Oreo and the Axon 9. It's a shame...
Time to jump to the one plus company ?

EDIT: Looks like I saw on reddit that an Oreo beta tester(reference) said if he gets word on ZTE not releasing Oreo due to the recent issues, he'll leak the 3rd stage Oreo update to let the rest of us get a taste on what it could've been.

ZTE want to take the worldwide of mobile, but by the lack of Qualcomm chipset, Gapps, this ambition may be end now.
They may no longer invest in developing anything suitable for global user, or at least Qualcomm compatible rom.
I feel so sad, Axon 7 is a great phone, and ZTE had had potential to produce more great product.
The U.S. has been screwing with ZTE for the past 8 years or so.

General Pixel 6 March update delayed !

posted on Google Pixel Community just now:
"We have provided the monthly software update for March 2022. All supported Pixel devices running Android 12 will receive these software updates as part of the March 2022 update, which begins rolling out for most users today. The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will receive the update later this month."
And it looks like they fixed a lot of stuff too.
Bummer.
Oh boy, they're taking a piss again
I like my P6.....but.....come on Google.......
Check out the long list of fixes, including fingerprint sensor performance!

Definitely not a good look for the flagships to face repeated delays. Phone was announced nearly 5 months ago, right? Sheesh.
I'm guessing that there is something about the Tensor chip that's slowing down the software build process. Note that all the other Pixels have a build number of SP2A.220305.12, the Pixel 6 and Pro have SP2A.220305.013.A3.
Here we go again with the crying and whining.
Gas prices are what you should be crying about.
This is why l came back from OnePlus to get timely updates 🫣

Yeah all the other SOCs are Qualcomm and we essentially have an exynos. But they should have the bugs ironed out by now. I understood at first but it is getting to the point where it is unacceptable. Tensor was supposed to improve updates not hinder them.
Sorry you find that offensive l will edit my post. In my country the UK it doesn't mean the same thing

Mate is a gay slur? Since when? I always thought it was a term of friendliness among guys in other countries like Australia, GB, Ireland etc. usually spoken when at a pub. Perhaps it was from matey, a pirate saying like Ahoy Matey. But I don't know really. Either way we're once again getting screwed by the oligarch oil companies jacking up prices because then they can even pay less taxes than the minus (read subsidized) taxes they now (don't) pay. But I digress... Ok where the heck is the update for those poor folks that have no signal or very intermittent call quality? Thankfully, I'm not in that camp but there are a lot of folks who are and need this update. They already had an extra week due to the date issue and they still couldn't get the update done? I find it unacceptable and this will really hurt their brand outside of us die hards.

Bi-annual security updates for S7+ - anyone bothered?

After selling us an expensive tablet Samsung quoting bi-annual security updates only for the device. Is anyone bothered by this fact like me? My 7+ 5G is still on August update, the cheaper S7/FE at least gets quarterly ones. Using the tablet as a device for business. Enjoying possibly 3-4 years of updates, but if they come only every six months... Unlikely I still use this device in the mid-term future. Is this a good strategy for Samsung?
Not bothered. Samsung has always managed its tablets that way. If there is a critical update it'll push it out before the 6 month update.

Android updates

I don't like to spend a lot of money on phones so I got the A3 in 2020 at a very good discount. I just recently noticed that I don't get updates anymore and that security patch in August was the last one. I didn't know that Android One only had 3 years in mind.
For example Iphone 7 has updates since 2016. It's a shame Android supporti ends so fast. Read that Pixels have 5 years
Thinking about getting a Pixel6a or maybe root this one and try custom roms but I don't have the time anymore for bugtesting.
What I want is a small phone and a good support.
