gamepad design - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if there are any editors or any way to edit the gamepad files outside of loading up the controller in a game and moving around buttons? I'd love to be able to actually better align things. It seems crazy to me that there's no way to use a pre-designed layout and designate actions to the other screen and also no grid for designing your own controller to actually line buttons up.

MSI BGP100 Gamepad

SOLVED: After I did a bit of searching I found that THIS PROGRAM works fine on the Touch2.
Rather than assigning physical buttons to map the controls you can assign them by hex definitions.
While this is alright for emulators the default hex's left the buttons assigned to letters, which when pressed ended up typing "xxxzyvc" popping up.
I almost starting writing out a whole list of Hex values, but the big MS has a table listed anyway
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb431750.aspx
Now I have ABCD, L+R and Start mapped from the unused 90-97 hexes (the D-pad mapped to the up down left right values)
Hope this helps to any Touch2 Gamers out there?
Original Post:
Does anyone have any info on how to set this up for the Touch2?
FpseCE runs decently but using the touch screen for controls sucks (as you know for the lack of usable hardware buttons)
The included cd drivers just want me to map hardware buttons, and ive tried BlackPanther's drivers but it just crashed and wont open again :S
FpseCE claims to support the gamepad... but what it really means is "if you can map it to a control, it'll work" so this "support" isn't really built in.
Any Ideas?

[Think Tank] adding mouse cursor controlled by realative finger movement

I was impressed by the way the mouse cursor is controlled in the Remote Desktop application called "Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client for Android"
It uses what I am referring to here as "touch based relative cursor control" to allow you to control the mouse movements when connected to your remote desktop PC.
"Touch based relative cursor control" means that where ever you touch the screen, you are moving the mouse. Its basically like layering a transparent touchpad on top of the screen. Your finger doesn't have to be right on top of the cursor for it to work...
here is a video from their website to illustrate what i'm talking about:
I think that this could be very handy for certain things in android like browsing the internet.
the folks over at android-x86.org already have the code to add cursor support to android, their source code is freely available.
so here is what I would like to see:
-relative touch cursor
-for use in android browser (or other parts of the OS)
-while in browser, can be controlled via some sort or swiping gesture, menu option, or triple clicking
I just wanted to get a feeling on how the xda community would be open to such an idea, and maybe see if it sparks the interest of any devs (since my android coding skills are relativity limited at the moment.).
Good idea, but you're not the first to mention this.. i just hope some one make this happen
This would be great as an option for interacting with flash apps that rely on mouse hover.

Using the Keyboard Dock for Games?

Relatively new prime owner here and I just purchased the dock from best buy.
Is there any way I can use the arrow keys or WASD on the keyboard and map them to the controls of a game in an emulator or really any game with controller support?
Some of the joystick apps have means to map keyboard input to on-screen button presses. I know USB/BT Joystick does this, and I think the Sixaxis does too.
Sixaxis app works great for syncing your ps3 controller up..

USB/BT Joystick center works good to play games with keyboard
Play Modern Combat with Mouse & Keyboard
Asus Prime & Tapatalk
some games like shadowgun you can set keyboard keys for actions as if it were a computer game. More and more games are doing this because lots of people use apps like sixaxis to pair bluetooth controllers or keyboards to phones to play games.
And i would go with sixaxis personally, you can set regions of the screen to press, swype actions, its pretty awesome stuff (tho you need root for most of em)
Also unrelated but why are the 1 and 6 highlighted on the keyboard? Is there some sort of special shortcut they have?

I'd like to know this as well.. The up and down arrows are highlighted in a similar way. Any clues what that means?
Thanks!

Yes, ASUS has done this for many years on all their laptop keyboards. It's to help you identify certain important keys when in low light conditions. It makes those keys stand out from the others.
That is to say, there aren't any shortcuts to be found. It isn't a secret and there's nothing cryptic about it. Just a quick way to get oriented when the only light in the room is the screen, which is on minimum brightness.

Basically the APP should support the keys, some do, for example FPSE - PSX emulator for Android, has keyboard support.

the only special shortcut I am aware of is Shift+BackSpace - Delete key
(forward delete, not back delete, useful for text editing)

Being Able To Map Keystrokes to Analog Stick?

Is there anyway I can make my Right Thumbstick on my controller act like it's pressing letters, rather then a proper analog stick?
(i.e. if I move the Right Thumbstick around in a circle, then I want to see letters come up, as if I were typing them.)
I've been trying to use USB/BT Joystick Center for this, but I'm having a little trouble.
When I bring up the edit mode, while in the DS emulator the app still treats the right thumbstick
as a proper analog stick, even though I re-mapped the right stick in the main app to letters
(R stick UP-M, R stick RIGHT- N, R stick - DOWN O, R stick - LEFT P)
Are there any apps that will allow me to map keystrokes to a analog stick, and be able to emulate virtual on screen controls for games, and emulators?
Huge thanks to anyone that can help out!

Have you asked Poke whether this might be possible in his support forum? I'd like to be able to treat the right analog stick on the Moga Pocket as a discreet set of 4 buttons as well so I can map touch zones to a button assignment rather than a direction.
I think there is a Moga Keyboard app on the market that can emulate keystrokes as well. Do a search for Moga on Google Play and you should get results for the official Pivot app plus a few others.
Good luck!

Official Keyboard Book Cover Issues for Actual Work (no function keys!)

TL;DR: No function keys (F2, F3, etc.) makes this keyboard less useful for work (using Epic, Excel, etc.). However, this is the best case/keyboard solution around, which is why I would still recommend it as long as you know the limitations.
So this tablet and keyboard combination is ostensibly supposed to be a laptop replacement, but the keyboard lacks the function keys that would allow it to do that. While the keyboard itself is well-built, holding the tablet well, and the keys actually feel good to type on (despite being not full-sized), not having the function keys (F2, F3, F4) makes it so that working in Epic or Excel is impossible. Samsung customer service confirmed that there is no way to access those keys from the keyboard.
In Epic, you can customize hot keys onscreen to simulate key presses, to include the function buttons, so I just do that and it isn't too bad, since poking the screen at the F2 is about where the actual key would have been...still way worse that if they had included some function keys. No easy solution in Excel that I couldl come up with. You can pull up other virtual keyboards with the buttons, but that gets in the way of workflow.
I'm typing this review on the keyboard right now and touch typing works decently, with the exception being the top row is so condensed that I will mistype the symbols above (need too shift my finger reach a litte to the left for each one).
There ARE keyboard shortcuts! Many are actually context specific (Home screen vs Samsung internet, etc). Hit the Magnifying Glass + / and you'll get a nice list of what you can do. Ironically, some of them refer to using the F4 and other keys that don't exist on the keyboard...
I do use this on my lap quite a bit, but I really wish it had one additional position to lay more flat like my TabPro S.
I thought that I would hate the S Pen holder, but it actually works really well and isn't as annoying as I thought it would be. It is important to push the S Pen into the holder until it clicks.
I set mine up to not launch DeX on docking, as it tends to be less useful for my multitasking since my main work app (Epic) is not optimized for DeX. Detaching from the keyboard automatically sleeps my tablet, not sure how to change that setting.
I do use it folded back pretty often, and the keys on the reverse side don't bug me too much, but that's likely to be a pretty personal preference.
I've tried some keyboards from Amazon that includes a touchpad, but I can't use it on my lap Folding Keyboard I do really like it though for desktop use! It has function keys
Cons:
- Lacks function keys
- No backlight
- Only one position on the stand
- touch typing the number row is hit or miss
- No touchpad/pointer control
- heavy/bulky
Pros:
- Build quality
- Compact size
- Customize tablet attach/detach actions (mine does not activate Dex)
- S Pen holder is actually pretty good
Hope this helps!
