USB DVD/CD drives - CDFS and UDF Filesystems through OTG (Galaxy SII)

Hi guys,
Has anyone ever thought of connecting a slim USB powered external DVD re-writer disc drive to the Samsung Galaxy S2. I am still awaiting my Galaxy S2 to be delivered and from what I have gathered in order for this type of usb hardware to be recognized in the OTG, there would need to be support for the CDFS and UDF filesystems which many burned CD's and DVD's are recorded in. It's a 2.5" usb powered DVD re-writer (no external power needed) I attach and use sometimes on my win 7 laptop.
Would be awesome if I could view many of my old backed up DVD rips (standard 700mb XviD's) that I burned to CD through the USB OTG on my Galaxy S2 using an Android video p[layer like Rockplayer or moboplayer. Does anyone agree?
many other possibilities with burned CD and DVD media such as photo CD's, traditional music CD's (cda) and more all on Android. Optical disc drives, like other usb drives tested on Galaxy S2, may likely require separate power source.
I've even written to Samsung's UK headquarters about it and they said they will forward the request onto the relevant department. I know USB OTG function on Android is still in it's infancy.
I have breezed a look at these two favourite XDA topics relating this issue:

Also outside of these forums, I have also looked at these topics:

Any response?
i kinda doubt itll work due to the power requirements of the drive
i know that you cant connect up a 2.5" harddrive cos they suck down more power than it can output.
hell even a 256gb thumb drive ive got didnt work
Another related topic about this, this below link:
RISC OS Open: Forum: When should we have a new BeagleBoard ROM image?
Has anyone on this forum with knowledge on these disc file-systems made any investigations as to whethere it could be supported on the Galaxy SII? Maybe on a custom ROM maybe?
Please anyone share something of what you knows

Power is not a problem. It works fine. All you need is a separate USB hub with its own power adapter.
You connect your USB hard drive or anything else to a hub and connect your hub to your Android device
by USB OTG cable.
You should also have a program which can read for instance NTFS file system for your Android like
USB OTG Helper or Paragon NTSF&HFS+
The problem is that there is still no similar programs for Android which could read CDFS or UDF
I think i saw that option on stweak on dorimanx kernel

Could you please write any updates about this? I want to buy external dvd-rw but I'm not sure in success.. Is it possible to burn disks? How it can be done?

File Explorer missing...

So I just changed my Toshiba Thrive for the Galaxy 10.1, the thickness wass just too much... I purchased the USB adaptor for the tab Ihave tested it with my 4GB Kingston flash drive FAT32 formatted and it works OK, my 500GB WD hard drive is not supported by this tab i can tell you the thrive recognized it and worked ok, my concern comes by the fact that this tab does not have a file explorer??? I downloaded a few from the market but they really suck...
I wish someone could port the thrive's one, ot could someone please recommend a file explorer...
Thanks!!
I use file manager hd, and root explorer
Thanks a lot! It did the trick, but i tell you "my files" on the thrive is great...
File Station is remarkable to me in it's design and is made for tablets. The others above are good too. But I tried File Station and not really tried anything else.

It's really weird that is not part of the android OS. They've missed some basic ui aspects.
I found this curious on my iPAD1. No 'Finder' app. I guess Apple and Google felt this could be best built by 3rd parties and would prevent tampering and damaging.

[Q] File Transferring, microSD Format, and HDMI Questions Concerning the Galaxy S3

1) So I am basically wondering if it's possible to transfer files between the Galaxy S3 and PS3. I would prefer to do this by simply plugging a cord into the S3 and PS3 like I did for my Droid X. I know the S3 doesn't have Mass Storage like my DX did, so I am not sure if it is still possible.
2) Also, I have a 64GB microSD card formatted in fat32 that I used in my DX. I would rather not have to reformat the card. Will fat32 work in the S3? I don't really anticipate having a file over 4GB. So other than that, are there any other big advantages of using exFAT over fat32?
3) I know I need a new HDMI adapter for the S3 because of the different pin connection. However, I have heard that it's not possible to use a 720p TV with the S3, even with this new adapter. My good 1080 TVs are in the basement and living room. I have a basic 720p TV in my bedroom. That's the TV I would want to use the HDMI mirroring on the most. Is that just not a possibility with this phone?
I searched quite a bit trying to find answers to these questions. I never got any solid answers.
Thanks!
Some Answers
In case anyone was wondering, I have been told the following:
1) There's not an easy, direct way to transfer files to/from the PS3.
2) It doesn't really matter what format the card is in.
3) I can't use HDMI mirroring on a 720p television.

Hey did you ever figure it out? I have been wondering the same thing. I have files on my Galaxy s3 that I would like to transfer with a cable and not through WiFi.. It was so easy to do with my HTC EVO 4G to just connect and transfer. Please let me know thanks

I essentially gave up. I just burn a disc on my computer or save the files to a flash drive and use those instead. Or, I connect my MHL cord to my TV and just watch use HDMI mirroring to watch the files.
I think that's the only way to do it. I doubt that's the answer you wanted to hear, but that's the best I can do, haha.
Incidentally, I did get my MHL cable to work on 720p TVs.

[Q] galaxy padfone player

Hi alll i normally blab so i thought id get straight into it. i was wondering say u got a touchscreen screen and wired it to your galaxy player is there a way that u could make it so whats on the galaxy player expands to fit the bigger screen and then u coul control ur galaxy player from the big screen. No. As far as I'm aware, it cannot be done.

Hi there, OTG works out of the box on the kernel-side. That means Mouse, keyboard and storage do work pretty much out of the box. Stock and AOSP Android have USB Storage disabled inside the OS though. Check out USBDISK and OTG Commits from here to get Android to show and mount thumb drives: android_device_htc_flounder
2Amps charging is hacked into the kernel, see: commit by usbhost
For OTG + charging at the same time you just need a cable like that one: amazon
Thanks for the response, gladiac. It looks like those cables won't charge with OTG at the same time. I just got one today and it doesn't work, OTG does but plugging in the charger does nothing. I heard there is a kernel hack to get it working (apparently done on the nexus 7) and was wondering if it was possible for the nexus 9 too
We had this discussion already in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...ging-nexus-9-using-otg-cable-usb-hub-t2950726
It does not look like it will work.
thanks lfrst05, i will check on that thread.
