Hey everyone,
I've finally decided to actively look for ways to extend my battery life, kinda fed up of the poor SoT and overnight drain.
I know there are other ROMs I can try that will improve the battery life, as well as other tips like disabling ok Google, but I was thinking more on the hardware level.
Has anyone looked for/replaced the battery on their Mi 9? I found a battery on AliExpress claiming to have the same form factor as the OEM while boasting 4650mAh
I'm incredibly sceptical of this but nevertheless, there's a small part of me itching to get it hoping it will add significant life to the device.
Any thoughts or reviews?

If it was possible to make a battery with same size of the original battery but with higher capacity why all oems doesnt make this type of batteries ?

That's exactly what I thought as well, but I'm not very familiar with how batteries are made etc, so I'm not sure if another company that dedicates themselves to making just batteries, later figured how to make bigger capacity in the same size.
But I tend to lean more on your same line of thought, which is why I wanted to know if anyone here had some first hand experience with these kind of claims.
Is there any good replacement batteries with the same capacity as the original one?

Where did you buy it and can you give some me details of the battery? I'm really searching for a 4000mah battery for Europe (Germany) but i only saw fakes.

Anyone know of any US sources for a replacement battery? I'm kind of in a pickle here. My case developed a crack in it several months ago. It was just a minor cosmetic thing so it hadn't bugged me too much. Lately every time I grab my phone I hear it creaking so I decided to look for an exact replacement case. The original store I bought mine from is listed as out of stock and searching for the part number elsewhere came up with 3 stores, all out of stock. Doing searches on ebay/amazon/ailibabba didn't come up with anything. I decided to just go ahead and get my phone out of this case and stick it into the stock TPU case. Anyway, I pop open the metal frame and the glass back literally flies off. I'm shocked to see the back of my phone now 90% popped outward. Looking from the side it's becuase the battery is one giant swollen blob! Everything is working fine, I had zero clue there was anything wrong until I tried taking it out of my case now I'm kind of on a desperate hunt for a replacement battery. I don't even know how I'm going to hold my phone together beyond attempting to cram it back into my metal/glassback case.
Edit: I ended up getting a replacement battery from iFixIt and using their replacement guide. Note, their guide is for the non-transparent edition. For the transparent edition, they use P2 pentalobe(0.8mm star) screws rather than phillips #00.
after EDL and its story everything is ok except there is no fast charging available and the phone charged normaly.
the original adaptor also rattles something in it maybe it is normal. MIUI 12 12.0.2

I just ordered a replacement battery from ifixit as well. How is the battery? Are you noticing a difference from the stock battery?

Unfortunately it's way too soon for me to tell. I'm not sure I did battery calibration correctly because I replaced the battery last Wednesday, slow charged it to 100% on my slowest charger and let it continue on the slow charger for 2 hours, then unplugged it and continued to use it until it was so drained it couldn't turn on again(which to my surprise wasn't until Sunday evening). Then plugged in to that same slow charger without turning on the phone overnight. So I'm only a little over 2 days with the new battery. My SoT doesn't seem to be as good(my battery was at 65% this morning when I'm used to seeing low 70s-80s), but I might need to look back up how to do the battery calibration.
One note though, for some reason I had some difficulty getting the loud speaker realigned correctly. The connecting pins just didn't want to sit right. It took me three times taking it back apart until it worked properly. Might just be my phone but I'd be real careful with the alignment and do the whole "tightening a car tire" style turn each screw a little bit to make sure it seats flat. Again, it might just be a mfg defect with my particular phone as I didn't see anything online with anyone else having a similar problem.

If you are asking if I'm having a longer SoT, no. I'm not. I'm also using xiaomi.eu weekly which means I'm very used to inconsistent SoT as each week things change.
I have a transparent edition, which means rather than the phillips #00 screws you see in replacement guides I had 0.8mm star screws(P2 pentalobe).
The issue with my previous battery was it had ballooned to more than three times it's regular thickness which caused my back cover to pop off. So I don't have any advice on how to get the back off as mine had already fallen off. The funny bit is that I didn't replace the tape because I wanted to wait a few days to make sure everything was okay. My case ended up pressing the back cover tightly enough against the back that it ended up regluing itself when I took it out of the case to start retaping.
I had several issues with reassembly. My giant hands took quite awhile to get the antenna wire back on and since the replacement battery cable is a little longer than the original it took some wiggling until I was able to get the plug to be lined up to lock in. After I put it back together I tested everything and discovered the loudspeaker wasn't working. You need to screw it down like you are putting a tire on a car. Don't tighten each screw individually but go around to each one so when it's going down it's going down flat so the connection is straight(similar issue to the battery cable, if it's not exactly parallel, it doesn't connect).
I ended up doing a battery replacement. I got an original (at least it sure looks like it) and a new back cover to replace my scratched one. The install was easy, and I'm actually getting better life than the old one. Not dramatically better, but still a slight improvement.

For those still using the TG01 I've just done a mod that gives my TG01 9 days on a single charge... that's right, 9 days on a single charge!!! Of course it depends on usage.
Image 1 (see thumbnails) shows the completed mod. I did this by making a battery tray out of 1/4" square pine rods I picked up at an RC hobby shop. The rear cover is Mugen's from their 2600 mAh battery kit.
Image 2 shows the battery connector (black). I snagged this from an HTC 8525 junk mainboard. It has 6 contacts and only needed 3 so just left the full length to add stability.
Image 3 shows a top view of the installed battery tray and the wooden retainer strip to the right.
Image 4 shows the battery tray and battery comparison.
Image 5 shows the battery tray sitting on top of the original Toshiba battery. There was a lot of tedious work to make this tray but it wasn't too difficult.
This mod has so far exceeded my expectations. Buying a genuine Samsung OEM battery (joint Japan-Korea product) probably is one reason for the fantastic performance. And the phone isn't very heavy. The new Samsung battery only requires a single charge, unlike my original multi-battery pack which required charging several times to get a full charge. The inherently inaccurate TG01 battery meter is still present but not a real problem with this mod.
I also bought an aftermarket 5000 mAh 'fat' battery kit for the Samsung Galaxy Note in case this one didn't meet expectations and am in the process of slightly modifying that battery (adding extensions to the electrical contacts) to use with this tray. I will have to modify the back cover as the 'fat' battery is 15mm thick. I'll give an update once that mod is completed and tested. If anyone would like additional details, photos, etc., just let me know.

Update - Finally had to recharge my phone again. This time it managed 6 days (instead of "about 5 days" that I reported initially)!!! TBH these were mostly fairly light days, no videos and games, a mixture of calls, some camera shots, and some Internet browsing. I also forgot to turn it off one night. The battery might have lasted a full week but my TG01's whacky battery protective circuitry turns the phone off when the battery level falls below "28%". After popping the battery out to recharge in my external charger I decided to check the voltage. What to my surprise the battery still had around 3.2v remaining. I was thinking WTF as it's safe to discharge li-ion/li-po batteries down to 2.75v. I wonder if there is a way to override this ridiculously conservative setting. If anyone has any idea please chime in.

Update #2 - Oct 24th
This Samsung battery just keeps getting better and better. My 3rd full recharge cycle yielded 8 full days of light usage. My 4th full recharge cycle jumped to 9 full days!!! The 5th cycle resulted in 5 days of mixed light and heavy usage and still probably had another day of use left. See my response to fxdjacentyfxd below for more details.

Yes, you certainly may. I can take some more pictures and provide more details if you're interested. The only difficult part is to find a battery connector from a junk phone to connect the new battery. You will also have to modify the original TG01 back cover if you don't have the Mugen 2600 mAh kit cover. Other than that I used some heavy gauge copper wire to make the new battery tray harness and pine wood for the tray. The original Toshiba battery was the template to make the new wood battery tray. Again, this mod is a little tedious but not too difficult. I used pine wood for the battery tray as it is very light, strong, and easy to work with.

Thanks Jacek! I appreciate the complement, especially coming from you, the battery mod master. :good: Yep, unfortunately the TG01 forums are beginning to have only echos as most have moved on. I really like my TG01 as it still does everything I need except for Skype & 3G. I confess I'm too lazy and a bit scared to mess around with cooking a new ROM to change the radio since I have no experience in such matters.
Regarding this battery mod I have to say this Samsung battery is incredible. I'm currently on day 8 of fairly light use (3rd recharge cycle) and my battery is finally down to 30%. I reboot the phone several times daily to update the inaccurate TG01 battery meter.
Regarding the battery meter I do have a question for you. Is there a way to modify the battery driver(?) or ??? so the phone will not shut off until the battery discharges down to 2.8-2.9v? We're losing quite a bit of time before recharges since the phone shuts off between 3.2-3.4v. Toshiba really screwed up on that one.

As I remember when I was developing stub for original battery driver [ in fact my driver it is not native driver because I have ( I guess nobody have ) no knowledge how to access hardware responsible for battery measurements. It behaves exactly like device driver but calls original battery driver and sometimes ... cheat so that work with TG01 was possible under 20%. You know my 26% ]
I realized I had not any influence when TG01 shut off. I was doing some measurements. Sometimes it shut off when battery is about 3.2-3.4 ( typically ) but sometimes it shut of when battery is 2.91V . Take into account that having 3.2-3.4 battery have of course some capacity yet but You realize that there are ( can be ) big current flows ( peeks ) that can very easy do decrease voltage on snapdragon and other hardware below 3V and lower. I guess that is why voltage level when TG01 shuts off is so different.

Sorry about the delay in responding. Had a cancer scare and had to take a trip to Bangkok for a complete physical. Luckily no cancer and all is good.
Regarding your question I was forced to reboot the TG01 several times daily or it would frequently turn itself off in the middle of phone calls. With my new Samsung battery I don't have to reboot it anymore but still do when the battery level drops to an indicated 30%-40% as the TG01 battery meter routine is still faulty. This new battery is so good it will last a full day even when starting at 30% charge.
I've been documenting recharge cycles and phone usage. Before going to Bangkok last week I got 9 full days of light usage! While in Bangkok I was using the phone a lot including lots of wi-fi time. I still got 5 full days with 30% remaining. I could have gotten another day but decided to recharge as hospital stay and overnight bus trip back home would have been too long before I could recharge.
I am extremely happy :laugh::victory::silly: with this new Samsung battery mod. Even still, I'm considering trying to modify my mod to use the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 battery, rated at 3100mAh. Unfortunately, the Note 2 is so new I can't find the battery dimensions. There are no free lunches and since it has 24% more capacity it has to be 24% larger. If it's just 24% longer I can possibly modify my existing rig. If it's any wider it's not an option. If it's thicker then I would have to buy the 'fatter' Mugen cover like you have. At this late stage it isn't worth it, especially since this mod works so well.

Recently, after some rom modifications I had problems with frequent tg01 system restarts but it seems I know what was wrong. Having opportunity, i changed radio to 321 which seems to be better for talks than radio 1600 I typically was using.

Thank you for the kind words. Glad you were able to solve your radio problem. I made a mistake by putting one of my 1100mAh Cameron Sino batteries in my TG01 again. The reason was I had discharged my Samsung battery and had it on an external charger, but needed to make some calls. Now my phone is back in slow mode again unless I have Bluetooth turned on. I hope the problem is only temporary as the phone has been working perfectly until now. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Hmmm , once again. You removed Your battery pack then You inserted fully charged Cameron Sino battery. From this time Your phone works very slow and only cure for it is to switch BT on ?

Yes, it's the exact same problem I had for months before I did the Samsung battery mod. Miraculously, the problem went away as soon as I installed the new Samsung. I have already removed the Cameron Sino and reinstalled the Samsung, but the 'slow' problem is still there. I have no idea why.

Tell mi Jim, having previously Samsung battery, You always drained it totally before charging( untill tg01 shutdown itself ) or rather You were charging it to full state again without tg01 shutdown ? It is "paranormal activity" for me but maybe reason is concerned with the fact that You removed power totally ( battery exchange ). I know it sounds stupid. Were You exchanging Samsung battery pack in the past many times and nothing wrong was happening ?

Let me start by saying the original s-l-o-w problem just disappeared as soon as I started using the Samsung battery. I have to say that I have had NO problems at all using the Samsung battery. In fact, the experience with the phone is so much better because I don't even have to think about the battery anymore. Keep in mind it's a single battery so there is no fighting between battery protection circuits like I think I was having with my multi-battery mod.
To answer your question, at first I drained the Samsung battery until the TG01 auto-shut-off turned it off at around 26%. I did this because I read that a new battery needs several full discharge/recharge cycles to get maximum capacity of the battery. This has proven to be true as capacity increased each cycle finally leveling off at 9 full days between recharges. I've also partially recharged the Samsung with 30% remaining with no problems. I've only gone through about 9-10 recharge cycles to date with the Samsung because it usually lasts 8-9 days between recharges, dependent upon usage.
During this time I have also used the phone a time or two with the original Toshiba battery while the Samsung was charging, because the large Samsung battery takes a full day or night to fully recharge. The TG01 did not suffer the s-l-o-w mode then. It was only after I put the single Cameron Sino 1100mAh battery back in that the s-l-o-w mode problem started again.
I'm relatively sure a hard reset will fix the s-l-o-w problem because it worked before when using the Cameron Sino battery pack. Unfortunately the problem would come back. Now I believe the Cameron Sino battery's protective circuit may be damaged and caused the s-l-o-w problem. I won't be using that battery again. I'll update you after I hard reset the phone.

Hi Jacek,
I still haven't backed up my phone yet so haven't done the master reset yet. When I first installed your custom ROM it had an Android type 'swipe to unlock' feature. I disabled it because I had the auto-screen orientation turned on and it made the swipe to unlock difficult to use. I stopped using the auto-screen orientation a long time ago because it is so laggy. I'm having to unlock the phone using the original Windows Mobile unlock feature which is crappy and would like to add the swipe to unlock feature.

Jim, I am getting older but I can swear I have never had any android-like software.
My custom rom has always had default WM6.5/WM6.5.x screen locker/unlocker disabled. As You surely know, this unlocker is based on sliders. Maybe that is why You say it is like in androd. Being disabled, older fashion ( WM6.1 ) screen locker is active but as You said and I can confirm, it is poor working software and that is why I personaly for my usage, totally switched off and screen lock/unlock. I do not need it at all. You can enable sliders in registry by only one switch value.
All I really needed was some kind of screen locker when TG01 is active ( let's say navigation software is on ) and You want to put in to jacket pocket or to any bag.
Without any "touch" disabler it is very probable that You ( Your pocket or bag ) touch the screen. I created some piece of software ( assigned to camera button ) that locks the screen when I want and unlocks when I want.

Yes, it will be charged fully by TG01 internal charging circuit as long as the electrical contact points line up correctly. I did not modify the back cover. Instead I bought a 2600mAh battery cover from Mugen, who makes 2 different battery kits for the TG01, 2600 and 3900 mAh. If you don't mind paying a high price for their batteries you can just order a kit. Here is the link to Mugen:

I sent an email to them at: [email protected] and asked them to sell me just a replacement back cover. I lied and told them I bought the phone used and it already had the Mugen 2600 mAh battery and cover but that I had dropped the phone and damaged the cover. They sold me a new cover (with stylus) for $14.95 U.S. dollars, which included free international shipping. This was back in August 2011 so don't know if the price is the same now.
Their batteries are OK, but don't know why they charge 10x price for them. Since the TG01 is now a very old model they will probably be glad to sell to you just the back cover. They call it "backdoor".

I have the oem Verizon extended and I use it on days when I don't see a charger for lengthy periods. I leave it on auto brightness and 4G and I get close to 4 hours screen time. Sometimes more. I dislike the bulkiness and people do ask me what's up with my phone..Lol
I prefer the 1620 battery for slimness but sometimes you gotta humble yourself and get the extended.
I also bought the Verizon oem extended battery when I bought the phone--it was on sale for half price--$25. It is bulky but when you need the juice, it does the trick. I also purchased the extended battery holster that Verizon sells at the same time. The Verizon battery is 2750 but easily last all day.
I bought the extended battery from Amazon (2750mAH). I use it with an Otterbox Defender. Definitely an improvement over the stock battery, but nothing profound. The phone will last me approx. 8-10 hours with medium use (playing music during my 35-40 min commute each way, texting, occasional web browsing). Timeout 30 seconds, auto-brightness on. I also use Juice Defender Ultimate/Set CPU to help with my battery life though. The bulk of the extended battery and defender case is definitely noticeable, but I personally prefer a large phone. I like having some weight to what I'm holding. It can be a chore to get it out of pockets on tighter fitting pants, and the silicon back has a tendency to come unset from the screen protector. However, it's not enough for me to stop using it. I'd recommend getting it still -- it's better than having to replace a screen (a lesson I learned twice before buying one).

I was thinking of getting a stock battery but then I am not sure if it'll be enough for me or not. I am usually away from charger for 10 hours straight.

I'm lucky if my stocker lasts me more than 5-6 hours of medium use. 3-4 hours of heavier use (heavy web browsing and texting) on a good day. 30 second timeout, autobrightness on running juice defender ultimate/setCPU to conserve.

Agreed. With Snuzzo's latest Funky Kernel and Juice Defender running custom settings, I get about the same with the stock battery. I tend to keep the phone charging while in the office.
On weekends or when travelling I use the extended battery or even a Hyperion 3500 mAmp and that gets me through the entire day (but not necessarily "an" entire day, i.e. 24 hours).
One thing to be careful of with OEM batteries is the back, since the back has the antennae. The Hyperion back is useless -- I my Hyperion battery with the official Verizon supplied back with the extended battery.

I'd say the Hyperion gives me approx. 20% more than the OEM extended all other things being equal, however, on at least one occasion, I found the Hyperion battery was misreporting how much juice it had left, and all of a sudden I got a crazy 5% alert (after a long time trying to run the battery down). That's purely ballparking it, and remember 43% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I have the OEM Verizon extended as well. People ALWAYS comment on my brick phone. I hate it how big it is, and I still find it BS that the Iphone 5 can run all day on an internal, the droid razor maxx can run all day on an internal, but I have to have a brick to make it all day. Anyway I have a very low signal with no wifi at work, so if I can't charge it immediately after work, or need to go out at night, I definitly use the the brick....I mean extended. Lasts all day with heavy use. It really is the best option if you can't get to a charger. Mostly thought I use the stock battery, and give it a boost on the charger so I have plenty of power in the evening. I use the VZW silicone case with the extended battery and it protects it pretty well.
I have the Laza extended battery. Works great, but with all the use, the back cover doesn't fully clip on (top left has a bit of a gap) and the ring around the headphone jack broke. Neither of these interfere with the usage. Battery life is definitely longer than the stock battery. I always slap it in before I go somewhere where I might not be able to charge and it hasn't failed me yet.
Even i got the laza extended battery from amazon(3250mAh).It is definitely better but its cover doesnt fit properly and phone becomes very very bulkier.I would instead suggest the 1750 mAh laza battery from amazon.They ship two units with a battery charger and a case to hold everything!And most importantly it does not require another back door,fits with stock back cover.Havent tried it but i think having a spare charged battery in pocket is far better than carrying a brick weight all the time

I used the OEM extended battery for a few months and got used to the bulk. It was ok but never as good as I thought it should be.
A few months ago I bought the LAZA extended battery and like it a lot more. It can get me through a day much, much better than the OEM extended battery. I kept the oem back cover though because I didn't like the "laza" printed on theirs. Works the same.
Last week I finally got a replacement rezound to fix the proximity sensor problem and wanted to try the slim thing again.
I'm trying the Laza standard size battery. It's rated better than the oem standard battery and for $23 you get 2 batteries & a charger.
It's not nearly as good as extended but is definitely an improvement over oem. Time will tell.
Anybody know where to get the OEM cover only for the extended batteries? I ordered the Laza battery w/ cover and it should be here today, but I keep reading all kinds of hit or miss signal with the provided cover. So I guess I'm just hoping I get a good cover that actually works, and if not, I'll be wanting the OEM one. Any ideas are appreciated. Also, on a side note, HTC.com no longer even shows anything for the Rez. Sad, really.

Yea, kinda figured. I've been scoping it out the last couple days, but unfortunately for me, nobody is selling the cover alone. Fingers crossed for a good Laza one!!! Although one of the reviews on amazon for it said a guy had problems with the cover and they sent him a new one with a free case. That would be sweet! Lol.

Zarboz the developer might sell one. I think the OEM cover is a good idea though.Have you tried adjusting the brass fittings and terminals or making some slight tweaks to make the terminals meet better. Several guys did that with foil spacers a while back that worked good for the life of the phone.
Also check with Verizon. I bought my extended battery and cover for like $20 bucks when the phone was popular. If it's been reduced or on their battery special or something it might be cheaper than ebay and shipping, or a little more expensive but worth it since you can walk in and get it, or hell test drive it in the store and see if it seems to help any before ordering it.
Haven't gotten the battery yet. Still out for delivery. Just hoping I get a good one. From reading experiences and reviews from others, some work perfectly, others need replacement covers. Hopefully it arrives before I go home for the day, and I'll know for sure. Thanks for the tip tho. May try and make a trip to a VZ store in the next couple days if need be. I just saw they had nothing on the site. Didn't even think about going in.
How often do you replace your batteries I have had the 2750mah battery for a while now and now I struggle to get a full day. I guess I am trying to figure out if it is related to the different roms or time for a new battery.

I have a Rezound I got in June of 2012, I am unlocked and running CM10.1 and the phone has never run smoother, but the battery is killing me. Back in December my battery just outright died and Verizon gave me a new one. The problem is that even though this battery is only five months old I only get half a day off a full charge. This morning I played a game for ten minutes or so and surfed Reddit for a few, in total less than thirty minutes of use and I was already down to 85% on my battery. Does anyone else have problems like this, is there an actual fix, am I doing something wrong? Someone help please.
i use the pc to charge the battery its charge it at 500mah max
the battery life is better then normal charging
i use for browser uc with lower brightness and low image

Try another battery, undervolt your phone, reduce your brightness, etc.. Can you take a screen shot of Settings, Power, Battery Use to see what's using most of your power? I'd suspect the screen is since it's a power hog.

I will start manually controlling my screen brightness, and what do you mean by "undervolt your phone"? Attached is a SS of m battery usage.
Make a screen shot after clicking on Screen item on you your screen shot. That way we can see how much usage of screen time you get. Usually I don't get more then 2 hours of screen time.

If you got about thirty minutes of screen on time with only 15 percent drop in battery, then that is pretty good for this phone. Sorry to inform you, but it isn't going to get any better with this phone. Battery life is, and always will be, the worst aspect of the Rezound.

Yeah that is a bit of an odd one to me as most reviews said battery life is about the same as the Galaxy Nexus, and most people I know with that phone are content with the battery life.

I assume you're talking about the stock battery and not the extended. With the extended I usually get about 5 1/2 hours screen on, but that with maybe 5% left.

Also, I got an extended battery a little while ago, granted it wasn't HTC oem or anything, but the back cover that came with it did not appear to really give me any signal anymore, as if the contacts for the antenna were not touching in order to allow for the signal to be amplified.

As you know our antenna is part of the battery cover. I have read quite a few posts where people buy an offbrand extended battery and their signal ends up bad because of the new battery cover. So because of that personally I would buy your first extended from Verizon. You have to be careful buying "oem" batteries off of Amazon and EBay because they make claims that they are oem when they are just lookalikes. I can suggest a case too that won't add any thickness to the back. I got that case and extended and love it.

ok will do. that case is out of stock but i'll check around I'll be careful looking for them since Verizon doesn't want anything to do with the Rezound accessories much anymore...or at least I had no luck finding anything. I'll see what I can gather up on ebay/amazon hopefully I get lucky thanks.
When I got my G5 (Verizon VS987) I also got a spare battery and charging dock as a promotional extra.
The charging dock is connected to the USB port on my PC. When I swap batteries I put the discharged one in the charging dock and remove it when the lights indicate it's fully charged. If I don't swap batteries for a few days I'll stick it back into the charging dock for the few minutes it takes to bring it back to full charge.
Now I notice one battery is swollen, as if from charging too fast or ???
It still fits into the phone with some difficulty but it does fit.
I'm wondering if I should discard it or keep using it, wondering if it can damage the phone?

Do not use the swollen battery any more. Do not toss it in regular trash either - find an authorized battery recycling operation in your area. If you can't locate one immediately, store the battery in a dry, cool spot with electrical tape over the contacts until you can dispose of it properly. Continued use may cause the battery to fail and catch fire and/or explode.
Batteries can swell due to overcharging, but also wear and tear aging with frequent full charge cycles. If you've been using the battery daily for about a year it is not uncommon for it to show such signs of wear. Failure rates are also more common with cheaper, off-brand batteries that aren't made as well to begin with. Buy a replacement battery and make sure it is OEM quality.
I've had this happen once before with a Motorola V3 battery so you see how long ago that was!
I believe it's the USB port allowing charging at a faster rate than the factory charger? Two requirements, the charge must be from a USB port and the battery must be very discharged.
The swollen battery is genuine LG, sent direct from LG, whatever quality that might be. Both the swollen Motorola batteries continued to work just fine in the V3, the LG battery works but is VERY difficult to remove and is now out of the phone forever.

It's not a problem of faster charging, but overcharging. The longer and more often a battery is charged 100% and left there, the quicker it wears out. If the battery is about a year old with daily use like this, a bit of swelling isn't unexpected.
There is no immediate threat from swelling but it is the start of failure if allowed to continue use. You surely don't want it expanding inside the phone from heat until it gets stuck and/or cause GPS, volume or other contacts to mess up by expanding the frame, etc.
Batteries aren't too expensive so order another one.
Not sure I agree, evidence seems to point to heat as the culprit since the battery wasn't charged that often.
Anyway, OEM batteries are available on eBay for under $12 and one should arrive Monday.

Yup, why wouldn't it be? It's a unique battery for an obsolete phone, everyone that has any quantity is dumping them. The one I'm getting is from an "overstock" dealer.

Sad part I know 3 people with LG V20 who are also having build quality issues. Speaker going on all of them and this is a common issue.

I guess I've been lucky, I've had very few problems. I really miss an unlocked bootloader and a rooted phone with a custom ROM but this seems to do the job other than about 90% of the "wonderful" features being stuff I don't want, don't use and would delete if the phone was rooted..
I really wanted the removable battery and the SD card, I think LG is my only option for both isn't it?
I have no idea what (or IF) my next phone will be, maybe I'll drag out my old Motorola V3 and use it? <G>
Seriously, no kidding, it's been all downhill since my BlackBerry Bold.
I bought two spares batteries, one from Ebay with the external charge case that looks genuine but the battery lasts about 20-25% less than the original battery and a second one from Aliexpress that lasts half the time of the original battery. The one from Ebay ways the same as the original, the one from Aliexpress is lighter.
On both the batteries the green heatshrink is not exactly the same color as the original one.
So I think none of those batteries you can buy from those sites will have the same capacity as a original battery from a official reseller.
The one I got seems to be OEM, I suspect the ones you got were just old, I can't imagine anyone making an aftermarket battery for such a low sales volume phone.
I believe any battery you get will be 3 - 4 years old before you get it, that may be why the one I got took almost 40 hours to reach full charge.
So far it seems it will last as long as the original but who knows?

So my Moto Z 2016 fell into the Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade cluster**** and became a victim of the famous massive battery drainage, to the point it became impossible to use without keeping it plugged to a charger. Thing is one would logically assume this is a software issue, and therefore a rollback/downgrade would be enough to solve this problem. However, after dealing with multiple software upgrades and downgrades for 2-3 days straight with and without RSDLite in every imaginable way possible, I managed to install Android 6.0 Lollipop on the phone and everything works excellently, but the battery keeps having the same issues it had the second that phone got the lovely 8.0 update.
So my questions are: is it even remotely correct to assume the update caused physical damage to the battery? Or -even if I completely reinstalled a totally different Android version- there is still some part of the phone that contains an unmodifiable chunk of software that is corruptedly managing the battery information, therefore making buying a new battery irrelevant?
I'm asking this because I decided to believe in the first question as a yes and was about to proceed to buy a new battery AND a new glue to place the screen again back to where it is, but decided to make this thread to maybe avoid buying things that could've been unnecesary. Thanks in advance.

Mine is pretty much okay with Oreo update back then. But after just 1++ year usage (bought it in Sept 2017), the battery life just dropped significantly.
Replaced it, and now it working fine. Even the repair center didn't factory reset my device (I'm on Omni ROM), so it couldn't be a software issue.
I can confirm new battery will solve the problem. I had tried everything before I ordered an original battery pack (made by Lg and my phone has juice for more than a day now. (a half before)
I think fast/turbo charging also kill the battery, so now I use a 1,5/2A charger

I'm asking this because I decided to believe in the first question as a yes and was about to proceed to buy a new battery AND a new glue to place the screen again back to where it is, but decided to make this thread to maybe avoid buying things that could've been unnecesary. Thanks in advance.

Could you please post a link about the battery pack kit that you said? Is there any different to a Motorola's one (capacity, dimensions etc) ? Thank you.

Thank you for the quick response. I've noticed that there are many after-market batteries which have larger dimensions than the original. Do you think by just changing the battery to a new one, will solve the problem? I mean it was just effective batteries?
I think the best to replace to the original GV30. It solved the battery problem of my phone right after changing it and I'm not alone with it I guess. I had tried everything before (calibration, doze apps, etc). Nothing works if the cells of the battery are dead. It's a hardware issue

Yeap! This is the conclusion, bad cells in the battery. I also believe the problem enhanced by the turbo charger, as you said... :/ But, how to prove it... (?)
Prove? I can prove in a year
Just think about it. It's simple physics, faster thermal expansion kills cells. That's why they're said not to let discharged fully. Or whatever

Look, many customers have tried these extended batteries but noone can prove that this myth works! On the other hand, many videos and comments have uploaded on the internet and people have shared their experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hRdg75PAMw
I believe that it's impossible to extend a battery capacity while the space inside the phone is very specific.
A project, though, is in progress by a member of XDA who is trying to replace GV30 to GV40 battery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/help/replace-gv30-gv40-t3896369
You'll want a battery that's SMALLER capacity than the oem. The issue is that lithium ion batteries hate being thinned out so trying to put the 2600maH OEM battery inside this chassis is a recipe for disaster. I believe the iFixit battery is around 2400maH.
I think we'd be fine with shorter life than stock. What many are missing is consistent battery life. It's one thing to get 2hours SOT, it's another to be at 80% and have it shutdown.

I did change the motherboard and the battery to a new one gv30 and I get 3-4 SOT. What's your opinion about gv40 inside moto z?

Don't do it. The screen will bulge out. There is essentially 0 give inside the Moto Z chassis. If you're fine seeing into the phone, then it'll work for you. However, I'd probably opt for the iFixit kit. It's an official Moto solution, and while it might have the same problem it won't introduce a worse problem.
May batteries you find online will say "OEM" but they are often rebrands. And even if they're just 0.1mm thicker, the screen won't adhere. A proper phone replace shop ordered me a replacement battery and it was too thick. This was a year ago, and I eventually just replaced it with a $300 new Moto Z from Amazon (I had broken my screen replacing the battery myself).

Just replacing my moto z battery with cheap (fake?) gv30 that i buy for only around $7 in my local (Indonesia) marketplace
Please look the attached picture for its (peak) performance, and this how i got those number:
- charge to 91% with 5v/1.2A charger (ASUS charger)
- watching movie for 3 hours with airplane mode and bluetooth earphone on
- sleeping with airplane mode on
- using my phone normally with wifi on and data off until the battery reach 3%

Unfortunately, after buying all I needed from the USA (battery pack and 2 B7000 glue blisters shipped to Argentina) I proceeded to attempt to fix the phone. While heating up the screen to remove it, I burned all of the LCD corners and completely ruined the screen. I don't know what did I do so differently from all of the technicians in videotutorials where thay apply the exact same or even more heat on the screen and still left it intact, but there's nothing that can be done about it except buying a new screen replacement, but since we didn't want to spend much money on this phone, we just discarded it. Such a shame and disgraceful event, it still bugs me out.
