Some Apps won't work on WIFI - No fixes found so far - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've scoured the internet for every forum thread or article I could find on this issue, and I've tried many of their fixes as well as my own. I own an unlocked S10 lite North American variant, and I'm using it on Sprint's network. I bought it brand new last week from Best Buy, and I've had the issue since. So far the only app I have found that doesn't perform properly is Snapchat, and the issue is only with sending messages, not receiving or viewing them. Messages will sit on "waiting to send..." until I turn off WiFi and go back to data, after which they will immediately send. This is a really big issue for me as I use Snapchat very often as my main mode of communication for most of my friends and family. Luckily I have unlimited data, I'd be screwed if I didn't. If anyone needs or wants more info I'll be more than happy to provide it. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, they'd be much appreciated, I've been dealing with this problem for about a week now and it's really starting to bug me. Thanks!

Thank you! I contacted Snapchat support with my issue, hopefully they can help. Unfortunately I've already tried the other fixes suggested in that thread.

[Q] Stock Email text wrapping issue

Hi all. I have the sg2 and I love it. Running Calkunlins E4GT v2.8.1 Rom and it flies. Great battery really nothing to complain about until you have to read an email. I use exchange server for business and rely heavily on my phone for emails. I have called Samsung, chatted with Samsung and emailed with Samsung about this issue and none seams to know what I am talking about or how to resolve the issue. I came from the HTC Evo and this was not an issue. I have tried several different ROMS and I have checked with other people who have the same phone and we all have the same problem. Frankly I am surprised there isn't a fix or more people complaining about this. The issue is the text does not wrap in emails and a word will be broken and split between 2 lines. This makes it very annoying to read emails on my phone and I read a lot of emails. I have attached a screenshot of an example. If anyone know how to resolve this issue I would love to know. I have tried looking in all the settings for a way to format it but I cannot seem to find anything. When I called Samsung they basically told me they didn't have a solution and they were sorry. When I chatted with them they told me to call, and when I repeatedly emailed them about the issue even after I told them in an email that when I called they had no answer they continuously told me to call. They had no interest in attempting to figure out why this is happening. thanks for your time.

Google Edition Security Bug

Both myself and a colleague ordered the GPE version and they arrived today. Both of our devices, completely stock are unable to get into the Settings>Security menu's. When we launch it, it simply crashes and says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." Every other settings menu works fine. A quick google search turned up this article from earlier today.
http://blogs.computerworld.com/android/23270/sony-z-ultra-google-play-edition
I am sure this will be fixed soon, but I figured I would post here in case someone else came looking for answers (this is always my first stop).
Troubleshooting steps tried : Factory Resetting, Also tried launching the security settings before running all of the updates from Google Play store, still didnt work. We tried resetting a device and not signing into anything during the initial setup, no go.
This prevents us from being able to install exchange accounts, enroll in MDM, or even simply set a pin lock. Major, major issue, fingers crossed it's gets exposure asap.
We tried calling Google several times but "their system is down, try our call later" is the recording we got. Update - Finally got through to them. Opened a case and they escalated.
Also trying to uninstall any applications cause the device to reboot.
Yeah, looks like everyone with a Ultra GPE is affected by this. Not much to do with it until Google releases a fix though. You would've thought that Sony would notice a huge bug like this, but lets hope they are aware of it - which i guess they are since i assume a lot of their employees are using this model.
Try contacting Sony through their Chat Support and explain the bug to them, and give the person you're talking to the link you've posted.

when I attempted to contact Sony this morning for the very same bug with my unit they transferred me to Google. The rep I spoke with said he was unaware of the issue. Wants me to RMA the device to send me a "refurbished" one. I'm gonna wait out a fix I guess... Didn't pay full retail for a refurbished model.

Text send issues

Hi y'all,
new Honor 7 owner here, and quite happy with it so far!
Anyway, I face a bug while texting : I randomly get an error message saying my text was not sent, even if generally (but not each time!) the recipient actually receives the text correctly.
This seems to be a common problem that is already discussed on a French android forum, many Honor 7 users here seem to face the same issue, and we still haven't found exactly when it happens : we highly suspect it only happens when the phone is on 4G, no problem when it's on 3G/H+... Can't figure out why anyway.
But what strikes me is that I haven't found anything on that on forums from other countries, like here on xda for instance : have you guys heard of that terrible issue?
I said "terrible" because when you send a text, you're never sure the recipient really received, that's pretty much stressful!
Thanks for your replies!
Hi soulboogaloo, this is a know issue and it should be fixed on the next update of Emui (no date communicated by Honor)
Thanks a lot for the information. I have this bug too and I also noticed that it happens sometimes but only in 4G !
The first day with my phone, I sent some texts 6 times and people told to stop spamming them xD
Thanks. I can't wait for the next update (and for Android 6.0), EMUI is really cool !
The first OTA update didn't solve the problem.
Did any of you guys ecountered the same problem ?
I noticed that long SMS are instantly having "Send Error" but the text message is sent anyway and when the return receipt arrives, the error disappears.
Really need a fix on that problem. SMS is a basic functionality on a phone and should be stable !
The same problem here. "Fixing" by disabling 4G sucks. Why would I buy 4G phone then? Hope HW will do anything about this soon. Sad fact is that they do not really respond to complaints.
Anyway, yesterday I dicovered another problem when my Honor 7 was not receiving any sms nearly whole day. I only found out when my friends scolded me for not answering. They said their phones said their messages were delivered, but I did not get anything. After restart the phone started to receive texts again, but the texts sent before have never arrived. It looks they got lost somewhere.
This is even more annoying then the first problem as I do not know when I am able to receive messages.
Anyone else with the same problem?
Thx!
Yes, I'm facing both of these problems in London & Milton Keynes with my recently purchased Honor 7. Might have to send it back to Amazon.

I have same issue even on WiFi. Turning airplane mode on and off tends to solve it but it has made me want to dump this phone and 3 network asap. Vi have recently ran an update on my phone and it seems worse than ever.
Is this issue still there?

5.1.1 and text messages

I'm not sure if this problem is isolated to me or if it affects everyone, so I thought I'd ask.
tl;dr: text messages don't persist on the phone, and in Google Messenger in particular, outgoing texts don't display as part of the conversation.
I use Google Messenger by default, and I noticed that none of the text messages I sent were appearing in the conversation history. Turns out, they weren't reaching the recipients either.
I switched to Google Hangouts, and all of the texts I received from (and sent to) other people before my upgrade were present, but any texts I received from others were gone.
I tried deleting and reinstalling Google Messenger, thinking maybe it was a version/cache thing, and again, any text I received before the upgrade was present, but none since the upgrade, including any I had received while using Google Hangouts.
Something definitely seems f%@#ed up here. Am I alone?

Same here. Verizon's messaging app works though, and actually seems half decent.
Yep just got off phone with VZ support and that is the workaround (use Verizon Messages Plus) they are doling out as a fix to the problem, says tech will be getting in touch with Sony for fix and may be another small update for it.
Lots of reddit users are having the same issue. If you're up for it, it looks like a factory reset will fix the problem.
Had to do a frigging factory reset, but all works well now

Did a factory data reset on new phone after update, takes a long time to boot sets at check mark screen for several minutes, standard text does work now.
Factory reset does fix text
I haven't had many phones. I'm assuming this doesn't happen to often, cause this is crazy. What if only 10% of you having update issues needed your phone for work? How can companies stay in business doing this kind of thing?

If it is a company supplied phone I would think that any modifications would be forbidden, any good IT department would be on top of any shananagans as such. I'm IT for the corporate office I work at (don't be impressed, I'm the office Alphageek and won the title by default.) and when corporate supplied the phones they maintained tight rein over the units. Now we are "bring your own device". As such if your phone is critical for your job and you bork it I would expect corporate to tell you to fix the problem ASAP even if it means buying another phone.

That must have you hopping all over the place like a rabbit trying to fix everyone's issues. But I was speaking more about Verizon's consumer base relying upon their phones in general.

My bad, I see your point now. For an official update this one has created a world of grief for many that installed it via the "official" route. Usually a factory reset is a last resort to many and apparently for this update it looks like a required step.
[EDIT] Just checked the official Verizon forums. People are struggling with the same problems that are being posted here. It looks like a couple have figured out a factory reset works and are trying to spread the word, there is very little Verizon help showing up.

A few years ago it did back when we were running a mix of name brand systems (Dell, Gateway and HP). I would say it occupied 30-50% of my time, since then we have standardized on Dells running Windows 7. That is a bulletproof combination in an office environment. I know everyone bad mouths Dells but since we with Dell/Win 7 my workload has dropped 90%.

Thanks, but already did the FDR, wasn't to bad, just time consuming. FDR does fix the problem though.

Do you realize that the text issue is completely unrelated to any "modification". This phone was "borked" by a VZ-pushed OTA. I had to do a factory reset last night, lost my corporate e-mail set up through Touchdown. I also missed communications previously, while I was unaware of the texting issue. Those texts are just "gone" now. This is very poor form on the part of VZ, not even checking that texting will continue to work after users upgrade.

I wasn't implying you goofed up your phone, just following up on AddictedtoGlass's comments, sorry if it came across that I was.
Yeah, this update does seem to be causing more grief than usual. That may be keeping with the comments I stumbled across in Verizon's forums claiming that the code sent to Verizon by Sony wasn't "up to snuff" in Verizon's opinion and that is why Verizon sit on the update so long. Looks like they should have sit on it a little bit longer. I'm on 5.0.2 and my phone is pretty stable so I'm content to stay there until this is all straightened out, if ever.
I have been trying to find more info on Verizon's community forums but they have managed to make their forums so hard to navigate now that finding particular threads is almost impossible. I guess that is one way of controlling the flood of complaints.

GPS Tracking

Has anybody checked out their timeline on Google Maps or any other apps such as sport activity tracking like Runkeeper?
Since I started using my UK bought CPH1919 last week, it appears there are GPS points missing so routes look like a lot of long straight lines as opposed to the actual directions I took.
I'm using the 'high accuracy' setting for location & so not sure what could be causing this issue but it's a big problem for me.
Has anyone else noticed this issue or got any thoughts?
Cheers.
I also noticed this recently but i have not investigated yet. Might be power savings ? Maybe we should try with power saving off to see if it solves the problem (and then get the issue to oppo)
I've turned off Smart Power Saver so now there are no battery efficiency settings set on my phone - will see how things go.
I have queried the issue with Oppo UK on Twitter but after 2 days, they have failed to reply.....
Still no better for me after toggling with the different battery settings as outlined above, as well as a new Maps update & phone firmware update!
And still no Twitter response from Oppo.......

No response from Oppo, tried everything I could think of so took it back to the shop. They were non-the-wiser so I'm going back tomorrow to swap for another.
Fingers crossed it was just a bug in the one I had!
What version do you have? I had the green option, I'm now getting the black due to a delay in availability of the green.
Got the black version. Not sure the color is playing a part here but please do tell if the new unit is acting the same !

Try that.
After some research, it seems the problem might not be related to oppo. Or at least not entirely.

Yeah, I'm aware of this issue, it doesn't really happen in my City but I have had occurrences. In fact, when I was tracking my parents recently while they were shopping in town, they were showing as 200 miles away!
The problem I've been facing is there aren't enough GPS points recorded so my true route is not recorded - most annoying when I go for a run & obviously all the timings are out. My previous Huawei phone didn't have a problem & even my Nokia N95 from 2007 was better than this!
UPDATE: new phone appears to be exactly the same so far......
I there anyone else having issues with location info??!
Ok. I tweeted the issue to the main Oppo account.
