I rooted my phone and then updated it with OTA update, and after that I had full root access, it didn't remove my root and didn't brick my device. But it was with my old phone (Xperia S), not with my Z2. I haven't rooted my Z2 yet
You might loose root with the update. It is possible that with a minor update you keep it, but with any major update you will loose it. However, you device should not be bricked unless you have an unlocked bootloader. In case you have an unlocked bootloader, do NOT update via ota.

Help: New phone in bootloop after ota update

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I received a new note 4x. Inserted SIM, configured it and all was fine. The seller had changed the firmware to a global stable version and had not unlocked the bootloader.
There was an OTA update so I clicked yes and downloaded it. When updating, the phone got stuck in bootloop and can't get out of there... Until finally battery ran out.
I don't know what to do. As the bootloader is locked I can't flash a new firmware.
Anyone can help??
Thank you

Recently bought used Z2

I recently bought used Z2 3gb/32gb version with .291 Marshmallow already installed.. Everything is good until later this evening, after 4 days of using it, I got notification about new system update. When I downloaded it and install, phone just reboot and 'Could Not Install Update" appears on home screen. I just wanted to asked if it really software update or just an error or something? Thanks in advance
I think .291 update was the last official update from sony.
I remember, there was a custom ROM for locked bootloaders, means based on stock, provided with many updated or ported apps from the Z5. There was a bug inside with the Sony update service. A potential update is available, but as i said - it was a bug in this ROM. The message can be ignored, just freeze the app.
The more important question for me would be - was the phone ever rooted, and if so, was or is the bootloader still locked, re-locked, or open. If the bootloader is open your drm keys are lost forever, if it's re-locked without restore the TA-partition, the keys are lost forever too. So, how is your camera quality in dark scenarios?
The thing is - if you bought an unlocked phone without that you know it, it's less worth than a 100% original phone. How much did you pay for it?
If you want to be sure, flash the latest fw with flashtool 0.9.18 , it was .291. The message should'nt appear again. There is and was NO Update available.

Widevine/DRM status and official updates after root?

Hi,
I am considering getting the 7.2 in the 6 GB/128 GB edition. Usually I unlock the bootloader and root my phones (Magisk), to be able to use apps such as TitaniumBackup and Magisk Modules like YouTube Vanced.
Has anybody rooted their phone and can report back the availability of Widevine L1 and passing of SafetyNet (Magisk and/or DRM Info) after rooting? How does the phone handle official updates after rooting, do they still come in OTA or do they need to be flashed manually?
Thanks!
I wonder if camera quality gets worse, too.
I hope it's not the same case as with Sony devices...
No, the camera does not get worse.
OTAs
After unlocking the bootloader, I was unable to install any OTA updates. The system did allow downloading them, yet I couldn't get it to install them.
UPDATE
Turns out, you can install OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader. Though, it only works with the stock kernel. So, if anyone installed twrp or any custom kernel, OTAs would not work.
I have both Magisk and EdXposed installed. The latter is a means of using Xposed on the phone. GravityBox works like a charm

Cannot find netflix on playstore!

Hi guys, I recently came back to miui from a custom rom, and I cannot find netflix on my playstore. Play protect says device is not certified. So how can I fix this? I was on 12.0.2 then I switched to 12.0.3 and it's still the same thing.
Also I know I can root my device and fix it. But shouldn't be getting it directly if I'm on an official rom?
When I first switched to 12.0.2, I was rooted and phone was decrypted too. But then I installed 12.0.2 and didn't root and decrypt data. It was still the same thing. Then I moved to 12.0.3 and it's still saying device is not certified.
Also I just checked with root app and it says my device is not rooted.
