Honor 20 Pro questions about Camera - Honor 20 Pro Questions & Answers

I've founded this phone at a great price. I'm thinking t to buy it but I have two questions about the camera:
1) do you confirm slowmotion to be at 960 fps?
2) is the timelapse editable? i like to make them and in my current lg v30 + i can adjust the timelpase to speeds of 15x, 30x, 60x based on how i want to make it. In this phone is it possible?
3) Exist a Google Camera porting for this device with Kirin 980?
4) can it capture the audio of videos in concerts or clubs without distortion?
Let me know and thanks in advance

1. Yes.
2. No. It is set to 15x and can't be changed.
3. Version 4.4.020.163412804 works best, and even then trying to go to slo-mo or settings causes the app to crash (it just closes, but if you open it again it works normally again. Unless you open one of those two again. Then it crashes again. ). But for photo spheres, a function I haven't found in any other app, it works great as long as you give it enough time to stitch it together.
4. Yes.

[Q] Better camera app?

I've been looking for a better camera app.
By "better", I am referring to faster/quality. Not instagram and other image manipulation nonsense.
I am also aware that we are limited by hardware, but still there must be something better.
Has anyone found a suitable contender?

Is there any way to improve the quality of the camera? It is almost useless. Rooting or something?

The best camera, IMHO, is LG Camera Pro.
Better Camera App
I am using super app LGcamera (there is free version too) and there is available to set these things:
video bitrate (default is 15MBps) i use 20MBps
audio quality is better (FULL HD VIDEO) 96kbps, mono, 48000HZ
you can change your save destination
take a photo while recording a movie
....and more
Hey guys
thanks for the opinion!
I've tried for a while jb+ and I enjoyed it more than the stock one (was faster and minimal UI). I did not enjoy however the way you change settings, it seemed awkward. Also the video recorder does no support 1080. Another thing was the lighting setting, auto mode was rubbish and I had to manually select lighting for each photo.
Starting today, I'll be trying LGcamera.
So far, I'm impressed. It really feels solid and works good.
Video supports 1080 and takes photos at 5MP(stock takes photos at 2MP, I believe)
Focus seems better to.
I'd like to ask you guys:
What settings to you use? (focus, photo mode, light)
Also for video
Thanks!
I'm a fan of the stock Nexus camera app and purchased Camera JB+....works for me.

Those options have terrible video framerates.
CameraJB+, LGCamera, Camera FV-5, give me bad framerates in video. I'm not sure if there's a fix or something but in darker areas like indoors, the exposure doesn't fix so the framerates dip into the single digits. The only thing I want is just timestamped filenames. Is there a modified Stock possibly?

Hey, I see what you mean and I think I can help you.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Get root access to your device (there're plenty of ways)
2. Unzip the attached archive and replace your device's media_profiles.xml with the one from the archive.
To do that, use Root Explorer app and go to /etc. Copy new media profiles and confirm the replacement. Then, don't forget to set the permissions of the new one to rw-r--r--.
3. Restart your device.
Now you have better sound quality in stock app (48000 kHz, 160 kbps) and you have better fps compatibility.
There're several apps for you to use:
a) For better quality and control, you can use FV-5 Cinema app. You should get fixed 30 fps under default settings.
b) As for LGCamera (the one with the older interface, version number around 5.4), you should set fps to 25 and you will get a stable 25 fps, regardless of the lighting.
c) However, if you are using the newer LGCamera (version 7), you'll have to go for a little trick:
Launch the app, and set the fps to 30. Now, go to Setting tab (the last one), select "Edit camera script" and add the following after the existing lines:
preview-fps-range=30000,30000
Now, restart LGCamera app, and you will have stable 30fps performance.
So, there're 3 options for you, choose whichever you like
P.S. I have P765 with the stock firmware from P760, version 20p.
Thanks but

That trick unfortunately didn't make a difference.. All third party apps are still agonizingly laggy. Thanks though, it was worth the shot.

4k video bitrate

Hi,
I was playing with 4k video recording using open camera, Note 5 global non rooted version with original ROM.
I see that video bitrate is a bit low and sometimes I see compression artifacts.. it's around 41Mb/s for video.
Is there any way to use HEVC or use higher bitrate to record 4k.
Comment: for example my old OneplusOne is recording in more then 60Mbit/S in 4k mode
Xiaomi 4k+ more then 100Mb/s
Wondering if someone was trying to hack it... I set bitrate in open camera but nothing is changing it.. still the same default stock value in final file.
Interesting thread.
Sorry if I don't have an answer but a question: does EIS (image stabilisation) work correctly when enabled in open camera or are the videos still shaky?

This is great news. Thanks.
Just to make sur : This is on the 5 plus = Indian note 5. (Not the Indian note 5 pro = normal note 5 which is dual camera and officially does have eis).
(because another thread says you need to root and install camera api2 for it to work).

I had italian version (assuming global ROM) from Amazon.it
4GB/64GB version black
from what I checked in few apps just open camera had EIS option in 4K and it indeed works, I was comparing videos with and without EIS enabled
just wondering about bitrate, had no chance to test with fv5 and setting higher bitrate cause i sold the phone, waiting for new unit so will test it again...
ideally would be to have EIS+4k and more than 60Mbit bitrate
Thanks for the feedback. Hope someone will answer you regarding bitrate.
I see in the open camera settings (video section) you can manually set the bitrate up to 100 mbps.
Have you looked at this?

Help choosing a gcam

Hey there guys, i have 9.0 pixel experience ROM on my RN4. Camera2api enabled.
I don't know which version of gcam i am currently using but it gives a lot of force close errors and a green tint on front cam too.
I tried a lot of apps to know whether I've a Samsung or Sony sensor in it, but to no avail.
Would you please be so kind as to point me to the best gcam version suitable for my device right now?
Thank you so much kind stranger.

NO FC's, no green tint, portrait works, HDR works for both front and back and you can choose bitrate for video recording, using it for months and never looked back.
To avoid issues first fully remove old gcams you have installed.
Also i recommend flashing this magisk modules: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1RkHruqNGIKnkgfhX0B7BaeEGYc-airBc
It will let you record in [email protected], fixes distorted sound in video recordings and enables 30fps in viewfinder. (it works for Samsung / Sony, not sure about Omnivision)
To check which sensor you have just run some logcat reader, open gcam and shoot few pics, look for sensor info in log.
What is gcam? Can anyone explain.

Gcam stands for Google Camera. That's camera app from Google and it is originally found on Google (Pixel, etc.) devices. However, when using it on other phones, it can significantly improve photo quality in comparison to what stock camera and other available alternatives on the market can achieve. That's because Google Camera relies heavily on "clever" software and superior photo processing algorithms capable of generating and preserving more data. So even hardware-wise "bad cameras" can benefit from using it. Of course there are some downsides as well, since the app is not designed to be run on other - non Google - devices you need modified version of it in order to use it. That said there are many different modifications of said application with variuos degrees of functionality, bugs and stability. You can check most of them collected here.

Themes / Apps / Mods GCam ports discussion

I tried a couple of Gcam ports and found that while I could take photos fine, the screen is blank when I attempt to record videos.
Is there a port that works correctly?
On a side note, how does one turn off beautification in the stock camera app?

video audio not working
You must restart the phone after installation. Then the sound works.
I found and set the functional camera to select the lens.
Gcam7.3.018_Greatness.Build2.3.apk (camera)
main[1].xml (my config file)
1) Install the camera. Uninstall the previous GCAM if you cannot install.
2) Start the camera and go to the settings. Config>Save>"a" (SAVE).
3) File main[1].xml copy to /sdcard/gcam/Configs7/
4) Start the camera, double-click this place (photo below) select main file>RESTORE
You get the settings, Wide, Main, Macro lens.
Video works only in normal mode. Slow doesn't work.
EDIT: Only the video recording with sound does not work here due to a current kernel custom rom bug.

Awesome, just got this on mine and can confirm it works on nezuko rom, if anyone is curious. Thanks man.
If you have the latest version of Vendor from Miui, slow video will work.
So everything will work in this GCAM!
also works on dotOS 5.0.1 with microG (no Google Play Services & Play Store).
The problem with video recording must be caused by the phone's sleep mode.
Maybe it turns off some codec that takes care of merging image and audio.
Certainly not a problem during the recording process.
The problem definitely arises at the moment of merging the two recorded tracks.
Some cameras will shut down at this point, other cameras save the video with the tracks behind (only the sound is played and only after that the image is played), other cameras save only the image itself.

Do you know which config file to use for all 3 lenses (wide/main/macro)?
No idea but seems to work with all 3 cameras out the box, the 1x, 1.4x, 1.8x options switch between the lenses. Not sure how to make config files but trying to do things like record time lapse videos on the 1.8x option will crash the app.

Unfortunately, we didn't get anywhere. Nothing changes with this camera. Still, the video only works after restarting the phone, after a while the audio recording doesn't work.
Before anyone reports a working Gcam again, please verify that the camera can still record video and audio after using the phone for a while.

Question Best GCam port for the Motorola Edge 40 Pro?

Hello guys, what is the best GCam port for the Motorola Edge 40 Pro? If there is one, where can I download it? Thank you in advance
FYI I tested a lot of GCams 8.8.224 (the latest version as of now) and the only cam that doesn't crash is the Shamim SGCAM_8.8.224.10_STABLE_V9FIX. I will keep it becauseyesterday I was at a live concert and the stock camera microphone is a total mess (every video that I made has the audio extremely distorted, while the instagram camera doesn't have this problem, but the video are ****ty).
There are a few problems tho:
1- it is extremely slow when you click every button
2- without touching any settings, pictures and videos are worst than the stock camera
Let me know if that version works for you, and if so, which setting do you use to improve the camera quality!

Have you tried to record a concert with the stock camera? You would get a super distorted audio (with every other camera app i don't have this problem). For now I keep it just to record live concert, but I know it has a lot of problems unfortunately

I don't go to concerts lol. Everything I've filmed has been fine on my end audio wise, I work in a relatively loud environment and the mic holds up about as well as any other phone.
