WTF...3 days..and the screen is already F'ed up...for no reason? opening and closing? - Microsoft Surface Duo Questions & Answers

Had the Duo since Friday...love it...or should I say loved it. Got the hang of the software, and for me it was awesome and had fun....UNTIL..I attempted to put the Zagg screen protector on it.. Heard it was horrible installation process, but got the first screen protector out of 4 on perfect...cleaned the second screen, and found the entire screen covered in scratches...thought there was a plastic screen protector on it or something, but couldnt peel anything off. The scratches came out of no where...had it for 3 days, bumper installed day one, no drops, no scuffs...it was treated like a baby...WTF??? Guess its going back...never thought I would have to send it back because its damaging itself opening and closing apparently.

cleaned the screens to install the Zagg glass screen protector I purchased from Best Buy. Cleaned the first screen, no problems and installed the screen protector. Everyone was saying that the Zagg was horrible to install. I installed it perfect on the first screen. Started to prep the second screen on the left...cleaned it with the Zagg supplied wipes, and saw all the scratches on the screen before I installed the screen protector. The scratches were so bad, I thought the DUO came installed with a cheap plastic screen protector...but it doesnt..
the scratches on the left screen is what is concerning. Looks like its from opening and closing the phone, cant think of anything else that would cause it.

Those scratches do not appear to be from opening and closing unless the hinge is (really) wobbly, they look like they are from having some sort of dirt or grit on something and trying to wipe the screen with it.

Might check I saw a reddit of people having issues with the screen shorting out too...I would check on if anyone else is getting scratches too?
Any chance your leaving is folded back?
Have you reached out to MS yet? So far for me they are terrible and take a day plus to answer though social media.

Honestly these have the classic Clean with dirty cloth scratching. Like there was a small piece of sand on the screen or cloth when it was cleaned. Those are not in anyway caused by the screen rubbing, the screen can't do that to itself.

Honestly loved the device but whoever decided to put glass on the front back was a huge mistake. Damn thing fell out of my pocket while sitting in a normal height chair and the whole back is cracked. Very disappointed in how fragile this device is. Dropped my other devices numerous times over the years from standing and never one problem. All this took was one short drop

Sounds like someone has an issue with dropping phones. It's not surprising that if you drop a device this thin that's glass front and back, it might break. Just the luck of the bounce.

[Q] Will glass screen on X10 scratch easily?

i got a question for everyone here, my factory applied screen protector for my X10 is peeling off and im getting sick of seeing it looking like crap, and im on the verge of removing it, but im worried the glass on the screen will get scratched easily espeically when using it, when i had my old touch pro it got a hairline scratch just using it when i swipe on the screen and im fearing it might happen to my X10
will i experience any scratches(hairline etc.) very easily if i remove my protector? i usually have my phone in a carrying case on my belt
thanks

better get a new screen guard dude..!!
I think there is a reason why the screen protector is pre-installed.

Yes it will get scratched easily, I speak from my own (unpleasant) experience...
1 year without protector! not a single scratch.. I also put it in my pocket, not in any type of case.
Dude, just be safe and get a protector
Just get one of those anti-glare ones off eBay, works like a charm.
unless you go at the screen with something sharp (knife, screwdriver, etc) then you will not scratch it. I have had no screen protector on it for months, not a single mark. infact, it looked worse when there was a screen protector on it!!
also, remember there are 2 protectors on these phones. a lot of people remove the first one, then scratch the 2nd one and think they have scratched the glass
scratch free

+1 just hit a year with no screen protector, and still scratch free! winning!
I took of the original screen protector when i received the phone...but then I read about the second screen protector and i realised that i still had that one on as well.
It was getting scratched and was hard to clean so a couple of weeks ago i took it off..(very easily although some people find it hard, maybe because it seems stubborn to come off at first)
Well, since then I have NO scratches on my phone, even though i keep it in my posket with my keys and loose change...
Also, it cleans up a lot better from the fingerprints than the screen protector did.
the only reason I can think why SE put it on is if you crack the screen it keeps the tiny pieces together so it doesnt cut you, but that means you still have cracked screen...it doesnt protect your screen, just their bank balance if you sue them!!
Lets not forget that once removed it becomes sensitive to moisture.
"if this does effect you, find a thin high quality protector"

installing 4ext

nvm found it
Just put your screen protectors when they arrive, there's nothing you can do about the scratch and you probably won't even notice it after a while, especially if your screen protector is anti-glare/matte
i could be the coating that got scratched. There is an oil repelling/anti-glare on the surface. There doesn't seem to have an efficient way to get rid of the coating. Many iPhone owners have similar problem as well.
I had a scratch on mine, very light but visible, but once the screen protector was on it covered it perfectly, and screen looked brand new.

Review: GhostArmor Full Body Armor

I got this screen protector at my local mall to replace the pile of crap Sprint Screen Protector I had on (rough as hell), and wow, they did good. On the BACK.
Let me talk about the good part first: the back armor. It's clear, you can take the back off with no problems, and it even has a protector for the kickstand. It feels nice, clean, and overall pretty. The only gripe I have with it is that they cut a block off to show the HTC logo. Not reallynecessary, but okay.
Now for the bad part: the front screen protector.
The first time I got it on, it had no problem. Then about a week later, a massive hair mysteriously appeared under the screen. I thought it was a scratch at first, but it wasn't. Luckily, I got it replaced for free because of that. The second application of it went good, no hairs or anything. Then 2 weeks later, a random scratch appeared on it. I ignored it for a while, then 2 weeks later, the top left of the screen protector started to show specs of dust under it overnight for whatever reason. The good part about the screen protector is how nice it feels. I had no problem playing Crystal Defenders (which is a touch screen intensive app), and it's really easy to clean. I rubbed it on my desk at school which made it have hundreds of little scratches on it, but with some saliva and part of my shirt, it all came off. Except for that random scratch that I talked about. It doesn't do well with greasy hands, sadly :silly:
I give it a 7/10 for how nice it looks. But points off for the random scratch, hair, and dust.
UPDATE:
For whatever reason, a HOLE appeared in the screen protector.
This protector is GARBAGE.

Insensitive screen issue...

Anyone else notice this? Especially with a screen protector on I have noticed "dead" spots on the touch screen randomly show up and cause me problems.
When I first got my phone I had this issue. I had Verizon install their glass screen protector which I really liked, but I had random dead spots. I went to return it and of course they wouldn't take it back. I got a bit heated. I got the regular screen protector and have not had the issue since.
It was AWFUL with the all glass one for me, but is still noticeable even with a "flex" glass one that is just about the same thickness as a standard protector.
I am very curious if all G3s suffer from this.
my buddy with spigen glass doesn't seem to have the same touch issues I have with tech armor glass. once i get frustrated enough i'll get the spigen
I have the glass protector and sometimes I just want to throw the phone against the wall, especially when playing a game like GTA
I have had the zagg glass protector since i got the phone release day an have had the same problems but not enough to make me take it off i found out that when it happens i just turn the screen off and on then it fixes itself
I play Ingress on my G3, and with the 0.2mm iCarez tempered glass protector on it I get random areas where there is no touch sensitivity at all. Multiple presses, hard presses...nothing. Sometimes when I breath on my finger and try again it works for a while. Other areas work. Weird.
Since the iCarez has cracked in multiple places now and I am expecting a replacement, I could remove the shards and try it, but the One Plus seems much nicer overall, for screen touches. No protection on it though.
Happens to me to. I have the glass screen protector from the Verizon store. Sometimes I just wipe my fingers clean make sure they don't feel oily and sometimes that gets things going again. But yea its annoying
The thicker tempered glass screen protectors will result in this behavior in my experience. The icarez .2mm one is fine and has no touch issues that I can reproduce. The default verizon one they sell in the store near me is horrible.

.12mm thick. The protector is not the problem that I can figure. I wonder if this design flaw is still being reproduced by LG or if they fixed it at some point. It is getting very old, very fast.
I had the Verizon tempered glass screen protector for about a week, and noticed areas of the screen that were nearly dead, especially along the edges. I removed the screen protector, and haven't had an issue since.

I have this one and still get the occasional area that I can't touch. Primarily seems to affect the top right corner area.
I have used this screen protector now on three phones. Never an issue with any of them and I am a heavy user.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk 2
i also had issues that made me want to throw the phone at times.
started with the vzw tg (i didnt realize thats what they were selling me when i bought it), waste of $25 or whatever.
put it in the OB case, and it was all but unusable.
threw the TG in the trash and went with just the OB plastic. still got frequent dead spots. ordered a normal protector from extreme guard on ebay, where i normally get my protectors. took out the OB plastic, put the XG protector on the phone, put it back in the OB case, never had another issue.
Icarez matte screen protectors on Amazon are beautiful easy to install, scratch resistant and don't bring about sensitivity issues associated with tempered

Problems with screen protectors

In the last couple of months I've already bought 2 screen protectors and both of them eventually "failed". I installed the first one and in the SAME day some water droplets fell on the screen and somehow went below the screen protector and created this huge rainbow-ish circle in the middle of the screen. The second one, that I just installed last weekend, had some dust or hair or something like that I suppose under the glass so I tried removing it, just guess what happened. Broken screen protector, so I'm trying to figure out if the problem is me, if I'm just unable to get it right and there's always something under the glass or it is impossible to get 100% right unless you're a machine.
I'd like to know what's your situation guys, what type of screen protector you're using and if you applied it yourself and how's it working for you or if you're still with the default one which was perfectly applied god I wish that lasted longer...
P.S: I've thought about plastic protectors instead of glass ones but if I can't apply a glass screen protector without dust under it I can't even imagine a plastic one.

I applied a Skinomi shortly after receiving my op5. It's been on for almost a full year and still looks as good as it did in the pix I posted here.. Application was extremely easy.
