Thinking of buying this on BF sale - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

How long will this get major Android updates for? How much longer for security updates? I feel like the answer to this is maybe a year and no more at all. Did this launch with 9 and get 10?
Would you recommend this vs Samsung S20 FE (g8x 439 CAD vs S20fe $650)
Thx
Sent from my ZTE A2017X using Tapatalk

It was launched on Android 9 and already received Android 10 and will get Android 11 for sure.
Drawback is LG hasn't allowed unlocking bootloader yet so no custom rom support as of now. May be in future it will get.

that means , A2017U (USA) and A2017 (Chinese) will get Nougat either this month or the next (December).
I can't say that I'm not a little bit disappointed by hearing January 2017. Being advertised as the first Daydream 'ready' phone, I had my hopes up for an upgrade closer to the Daydream-platform launch today..

If you didn't know Daydream requires Nougat and the phone initially ships with Marshmallow, I can see how that could be interpreted. I just knew it meant it will get Nougat eventually. The chipset is what is important. Older Qualcomm devices cannot support Daydream because they cannot meet recommended performance requirements.
Daydream actually required 7.1 version IMO.
And since 7.1 released couple of weeks ego that's mean
It needs at least 2 months preparation until OEM implement a newer version of Android.
So If US or Chinese version receive it within November/December it will be version 7 and that's not good sign/news at all.
So everyone hope ZTE bring 7.1 version(and NOT 7 i repeat) and doesn't matter who will get it first IMO.
It will be HUGE MISTAKE if ZTE not bring 7.1.

Indeed, let's hope they are skipping 7 and are putting all effort in a good working 7.1.
On official german Facebook page they say Daydream will be supported with Nougat update in January.

Can anyone confirm this? I don't recall reading anything saying Daydream required Nougat 7.1.

As long as ZTE involved to improve it via software.
But until now all Chinese haven't shown any skills for better software processing as for the camera performance.
Even Huawei lacking against top of the top Korean manufacturers despite being involved Leica.

There is a possibility we will see another camera improvement if zte implement camera2api in the nougat update, however i doubt this because the camera2api has been available since lollipop which has been around for years. On the bright side however they said they might add raw support which you need the camera2api for (unless they want to do a lot of coding themselves). So there is a possibility the camera might get better .

Samsung Galaxy Note8 India

Looking forward to the release of Note8 after last year's Note7 fiasco, currently on the S7edge. Hope to see guys from the Note7 India thread from last year. Please share your views & input.
Samsung Korea posted this video, looks like a dope camera on the Note8
So the S8+ is retailing at 64.5k, looks like the Note8 would debut at around 70k mark, that would be very very pricey & a deal breaker.

I am also planning to go for Note 8, currently on S7 Edge 128 GB version. Is there a word on if the Emperor Edition (256 GB) will be available in India. Also, what is the best way (financially) to swap S7 edge with note 8

don't known about the Note8 versions that would be launched, Samsung India is notoriously very lazy in releasing any details about any new launches. Last I took out the valuation of my 11 month old s7edge 32 GB, couple of guys quoted max 21k. The resale value really tanks after a few months.

Note 8 64gb for 74990rs... Will have black and gold intially... Will get purple by October mid/end...
I would say it's a deal breaker... And no prime edition to be launched 256g won't be intro'd as it's exclusive to South Korea.. and will be launched there by Sept end...

If u r buying just for the camera which would not be used 3 maybe 4 months after purchase... Then u r a very informed buyer....
Plus that awkward FP sensor and smaller battery than s8+

Thank you for the information. Hope that battery life is decent enough and they come up with a 128 GB version here.
Pricing looks steep & by September end Pixel 2, Mate 10 and V30 and maybe more would be out, so we would have many options.

A note with the Spen simply has no other alternative imo. Regarding cases & scree protectors still not many choices even on Amazon US.

Had a hands on with the device in Changi airport where I was transiting.
1. Hot damn. It feels huge in the hand(That's what she said ?) .
2. The s-pen is neat. Very responsive. Impressed.
3. The camera interface although elaborate seems to be a bit clunky and the the live focus is really aggressive. The potential is definitely there. Besides, the demo units might not be running the final retail version of the software.
4. Battery definitely a concern.
5. And the big one, the fingerprint scanner requires some unwanted hand gymnastics. Pretty sure, people will get used to it but it is by no means a simple one-handed device.
And the kicker ? The price at the Singapore airport is 61.5K (Amazon India is gonna sell it for 75k on launch day)
Waiting for Apple's event now...

Since all Samsung devices are Make in India stuff, why are the prices so high in India. Also Make in India is a big export initiative how will such pricy devises compete in exports where the prices are 20% off Indian prices.

Newbie Planning To Get Moto Z

Hi guys, I am planning to get Moto Z and price is 200$ about. Do you think it is worth getting it now? I don't want to spend much money since it's a secondary device for me.
Also, I noticed it has many variants. Which variant is good for custom ROM, Unlock BL and Root support?
So far, I came across XT1650-05, XT1650-01, XT1650-03 etc

It`s the same phone. Difference is the software update channel. 05 - China, 03 - EU and USA. Maybe some little changes in frequency, but HW the same.
Just try some google, man.
Also moto z in 2018? In the end of its lifecycle? Meh.

Same camera as that Nexus 6 of yours there.
New or used? If it's used you might wanna get a battery replacement for it, the Nougat 7.0 update kinda overstressed the battery
I'd get the G5+ or G5S, TBH (better battery life with Snapdragon 625)

Thanks mate,
I just sold my Nexus 6 and looking for a replacement as a secondary device. I came across Moto Z, LGV20, HTC 10, Honor 8, Nexus 6P. I do not want to spend more than 200-230$ and I merely keep my secondary device for 6-9 months.
I am getting a good deal if I get XT1650-01 and I believe it is verizon model but what I came to know is that it cannot unlock BL and root. I usually customize my phones.

It's brand new if I get Verizon variant. I am not into photography that much. I am looking for a better Snapdragon processor with the good amount of RAM so that it still holds resell value in the future. If I opt for a mid-range device like Xiaomi or Huawei I am getting a good deal in 200$ but then it would not hold much resell values after 6-9 months.
PS. I see that you Malaysian too

Pricing in India. is it worth?

What u guys think is this phone worth of this price. 33000 rs
Or should we wait for one +6
The OP6 is rumored to start at 37k and I think the marginal improvements and features like wireless charging would be worth the extra 4k. Also, if you're into Honor phones, the view 10 is cheaper in India having the same processor and ram, but with expandable storage and a bigger screen. The Honor 10 would be a better buy abroad as it undercuts the view 10 by €50
Honor is not good in providing updates, development support. HONOR view 10 in India is still with 8.0 and Feb patches. No one knows if they release 8.1 or not. No proper response to users. No proper roadmap of updates. And no volte and AI support in custom roms.
I recommend you to go for Oneplus even if it costs little more.

Ya already made my mind. Bought the amazon voucher also. Definitely going for one plus 6
Seems over priced considering you can get a view 10 for extra £20 and OnePlus 6 for extra £69 both with more ram and OnePlus 6 better development and regular updates , I think the price has killed it before it's even begun and the fact honor slow updating and far to many region firmware floating around gets confusing , better of with the global OnePlus 6 one firmware for all is the way forward ,honor will never learn ?[emoji39]
