Black screen under call, test proximity sensor - Nokia 7.2 Questions & Answers

Hi, my mother has the Nokia 7.2 phone and few days ago it began to go to black screen when on a call. It on all the time, and you can't start the screen unless when the call is ended. I see that many has this error, but I couldn't fix the error permanently with any of there advise.
The only thing that seems to work, is going into developer mode, enable "USB-debugging" and "turn sensors off". Then from the top drawer I can turn off sensors. Now the phone doesn't go into black screen when on a call.
But the problem it, that it shouldn't be necessary to do this step, and it will turn off all other sensors also.
My plan is to take it to a service center as it many still be under warranty, but I don't want them to just say "Not hardware failure, wait for an software update" and then I have to pay for basically nothing.
So my question is, can I somehow test the proximity sensor and perhaps others, so I can be sure that it's a hardware or software error?

[Q] Proximity sensor problem after phone call when using MIUI on Samsung Fascinate

Phone: Samsung Fascinate
ROM: MIUI 1.7.29
Problem: Just after completing a phone call, I pull my phone away from my face and attempt to press the "End Call" button. The problem is that the screen will still be black. It's somehow not detecting that the phone has been pulled away from my face apparently. When I press the power button in hopes of waking up the screen, nothing happens. I think the reason that is, is because pressing the power button during a call, may actually be muting the call.
In any case, when this occurs, I have to wait for the person on the other line to hang up their phone. My screen will then wake up and show that my call has been ended.
I did some research online and found some options to toggle:
Settings > Programs > Call Settings >
There you will find "Enable proximity sensor", wich I have set to on, and also "Enforce proximity sensor". That switch was set to on, and so I changed it to OFF. Even so, my problem still exist.
Does anyone know what "Enforce proximity sensor" even means, and what does it do precisely?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
I don't have any suggestions, but I am experiencing the same issue on CM7, build #10.
I am using MIUI 1.7.28 and experiencing your EXACT problems. I have tried turning them off and on again, rebooting, but it still doesn't work.
This is frustrating, any ideas?
from what I've read none of the sensors work that great on the GB ROMs yet, and won't until fascinate specific source is available.
Wow! Yes this is a known issue with all of the GB roms except for any bassed off of the EC09 leak.
EC09 has been known to eat SD cards! [just a warning]
Low call volume and proximity sensor are the two BIGGEST known issues!

[Q] Xperia Mini (ST15i) proximity sensor issues - Is there a solution?

Hi everyone!
I have a T-Mobile Xperia Mini, 4.0.2.A.0.42 build.
If the phone is in my pocket, and i get an incoming call, when i take it out of my pocket to answer the call, the touch screen is not active. I cannot move the slider on the screen. I have to press the power button to turn off the screen, and after 20-30 seconds i can turn te screen on again, and then i can answer the call. But if i leave the screen on, it does not activate the touch screen, no matter how long i wait.
The second problem is that if my phone is in my pocket with headset connected, and i answer the call with the headset button, it unlocks the screen. So as i walk talking, i press random things on the screen. For example, during a 2 minutes call, i disabled the microphone, got to the main screen, turned a page, enabled the gps and bluetooth via the shortcuts on my screen...
I think this is not how it was meant to work. I think is it a software issue. The service test shows htat the proximity sensor is working. But i can not answer most of my calls.
Is there a solution for these, or should i take it back where i bought it? I cannot update the software, PCC says it is up to date.
I tried factory reset and software reinstall, i got the same results.
I searched the "hw_config.sh" file, thre are parameters for proximity sensor, but i can not understand the functions of them.
I have the same Problem On Xperia Mini Pro SK17i
but when I open the qwerty the screen will light again
Note: I already deleted the software and but it again on my device and the problem solved for just 3 days and it happened again
PLZ help me I love my phone and I want to solve this problem fast
I did not find a solution. Only possibility left is to bring it back to the trader for repair.

[Q] faulty or bug?

second day and already have many problems:
1. ringtone turned off vibration only. still have ringtone with incoming calls
2. making calls screen turned off once near ear. moving away from ear doesn't turn on the screen. try any button nothing works. have to turn off power to cut
3. smart stay isn't smart. screen still turned black even with bright environment
Am I unluckily with a faulty phone or they are known bugs? thanks
Not to sure mate
I have had NONE! of the problems that you have had, although i have had a few problems e.g. the turn to mute media stopped working and things like that, all i had to do was a restore and it is fine now, i was speaking to the people at the carphone warhouse (phone shop in the uk) they said they have only had 1 return since launch and that was because the screen wasnt big enough and they went for the note, i have also always found that samsung is happy to help you if you have a problem with your phone just give them a ring.
1: you need to explain exactly what you changed.
2: It's supposed to go off near ear because uses proximity sensor to save battery turning screen off.
3: Smartstay just doesn't work as well as it should do.

[Q] Screen becomes unresponsive during calls. People can hear me though.

I have seen 2-3 other threads discussing the same thing but no issues were found. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to find one.
I am using an unlocked rezound with a rom that I am not too sure of. I don't remember which one I eventually got working.
My issue is essentially the following,
Power button to lock screen is slow. The red buttons light up but the screen takes 1 minute to show.
I can dial phone numbers and even hear the other person and they can hear me but the touch screen becomes unresponsive.
Ultimately the phone restarts itself or just turns black.
Occasionally I get the error "Process System is not responding, would you like to close it?". I also now have a slight buzzing
sound coming from the earpiece in calls.
Try Wiping and flashing a new rom or doing a factory reset from within the recovery

If you want to know what ROM you're on, go into Settings > About > Software information and it should say something under Software number. Mine says the name of my ROM.
Then just for fun you can pull down on the bottom of the list and see it stretch out and then boing back up when you let go. :cyclops:
But yeah, try wiping and if you do a factory reset make sure you back up any files you want to keep. Do a fresh flash if that doesn't fix it.
SOLUTION - PROXIMITY SENSOR CALIBRATION
Someone on here posted an app for rooted only devices that alters the sensitivity of the proximity sensor.
Dust can be causing the issue or you can use this app to fix it for you. The app fixed my problem instantly.

help! accidental touches to the screen during calls

when I use the original oxygenos, I always happens (in each call) that there are unintentional touches the screen that usually make me turn the microphone off or pause the call, all this makes it impossible to make a phone call.
I tried doing upgrades, downgrades, cache cleaning, reset but nothing!
The only way to solve it is to use the CyanogenMod 13 where the bug does not occur but.
can someone help me with this problem ??? I like the stock rom and I would use it without problems
Lock the phone after acepting or making a call, maybe? Ive never had such issues with OOS.

Yes! the only way is to turn off the phone with the power button after starting the conversation, it is still very frustrating!
If I type a number and make e call the display will immediately go off when I put the phone near the ear. If I just keep it in the hand it will not go off. I guess this is what happen by default. Maybe it has to do with some kind of sensor you turn off on your settings in OOS?

I think the screen is responsive to the touch in some cases despite the proximity sensor turns off the screen, it's a pretty serious problem, those of OnePlus are willing to fix it, but they will leave at least 30 days.
I do not understand if it is a sofware or hardware problem because with the various tests I did the sersore proximity seems to work fine, but I can not make a phone call without any problems
