Clone Phone via TWRP - AT&T LG G5 Questions & Answers

I have a huge problem. I would like to clone all data (including system) from a LG G5 (H850) to the identical G5 (H850) via TWRP. The bootloader is unlocked and TWRP (twrp-3.4.0-1-h850.img) is installed. Now I've tried to restore the following partitions:
data
system
cache
misc
boot
Stock is: H85010C_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0415.kdz
I had to abort the first startup process after 2 hours, now I've restarted it, now I can't even get into TWRP. Who has already had experience with such an action, or can tell me how best to do it?

HELP!! No system partition... need full rom

So I decided to unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP, i knew that unlocking it would wipe the data but what happened to me was that after trying to reboot into the system and install SuperSU it would always return to recovery and now it says no OS detected. So now i have to flash a completely stock image and i dont have one. Can anyone help???
EDIT: Used the restore tool(cant remember who by) and it worked fine.
Official twrp does not support squashfs which the new system is in, here is an unofficial build from the twrp forum on the lg g watch

Need help: Installed H850 20D OPEN EU ROM + SuperSU and cannot boot

Hi,
I have a rooted LG G5 H850 with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP. I was on H850 20A OPEN EU ROM from autoprime and I tried to flash H850 20D OPEN EU ROM. I booted into recovery TWRP and flashed the Zip file together with the newest SuperSU. When I tried to reboot the phone stuck in reboot - always changing between the message "Your device software cannot be checked for corruption" and the LG logo. After a long time (15 minutes or so) I pulled the battery. The same thing. Then I tried to get into recovery using the 2 hands method. I clicked through the factory reset screens (yes, yes...) - and the phone stuck between warning screen and logo again.
Could someone help me to get into TWRP again? If this would be possible I could restore my backup. Otherwise I don't what to to else...
Thanks for any helP!
Ok, after several tries with the 2 hand method, I got into TWRP again. I tried to restore my backup but it failed with an error. After that I did a full wipe (factory reset) but without the internal storage. Then I flashed the 20D zip again, after that SuperSU. Now the phone is rebooting and rebooting and rebooting. It is stuck on the LG logo and nothing else is happening. It's frustrating...
Firmware reset > flash zip file.
If that doesn't work use the LGUP or LG Bridge method to flash firmware. There should be threads in the development section

Thanks for your help, but I don't use windows. But in the meantime I got it solved. The reason for the failure was a corrupted external sd card. Flashing from a new card did help.
i'm getting the same problem with the OREO OPEN EU ROM, booted into TWRP, flashed SuperSU and after a few loops got stuck on the LG logo. Had to pull the battery, go into download mode & reflash the ROM via LGUP. I somehow doubt it's the SD card as there were no errors on the SuperSU install.

[HELP] Bootloop and cant boot into twrp!

I was new to this twrp stuff, so i wanted to change my custom rom to stock rom on my lg k20 plus (model - mp260) And I couldnt find a way online to flash it, so i tried wiping all my data via twrp and i wiped everything because I had no knowledge, after that i rebooted my system and It showed the android screen for about 30 minutes. Then, i tried to reboot into twrp via adb, drivers arent recognized, tried to reboot in phone, bootloader unlocked message is preventing me from doing that. Can someone help please???

Rooitng LG G5

Hi,
I am intending to instal my LG LG (European model) with the custom pie ROM. Currently I am runing official stock 8.0 firmware. Since this is the first time I am flashing my phone I am reading tutorials and guides, obviously the first step is to do a full back of the current ROM for recovery should I need it. I am reading that I should use TWRP to do this backup, but before I can install this I need root the phone. However when I read about rooting the phone I read that all data will be lost!
So given a stock ROM what is the correct and safe way to root and install TWRP. The guides are sending me around in circles!
Thanks.

The best way to root the lg g5 is to use lg up to restore it back to stock 7.0 20a. Then use adb and fastboot to flash twrp. Then magisk for root (optional). The best roms are currently lineage 16.0 and 17.0.
Thanks - but before I flash any images (stock or custom) I want to do a nandroid backup. I am not sure how to install TWRP without root access, and root access requires flashing!
You have to first find which model you have (for example h850) and see if its possible to unlock the bootloader.
This is necessary if you want to install custom roms/recovery.
On the h850 you can find a tutorial on xda called Official LG G5 H850 Bootloader Unlock.
After you unlock the bootloader you need to flash twrp recovery, after that you need to boot into the recovery and flash magisk for root.
Good luck
Thanks, I do have a European model H850. I found the official guide on this forum, but note that it says after the unlock.bin is received:
6. While the phone is still in fastboot enter the following command to unlock the bootloader:
This will unlock your phone AND factory reset your device wiping all data!
I don't want to wipe my data yet because it isn't backed-up. In order to back it up I need TWRP installed and in order to install TWRP I need to unlock the bootloader - so again I hit a dead end.

You would have to use a third party back up app either on your phone or PC.
I did try the Titanium app but it required root access I wasn't aware of any PC tools but will take a look now, thanks.
Ok so I have made some progress.
1. I unlcoked the bootlader with he unlock.bin from the LG Developers site
2. I then installed the latest TWRP
3. I booted into TWRP and installed the SU root zip. During the process I got this:
Failed to mount '/system' (Device or resource busy)
Failed to decrypt data
Unable to decrypt with default password. You may need to perform a Format Data
Updating partition details...
...done
Unable to mount storage
Full SELinux support is present
Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps
Regardless it seemed to be successful,I followed the option to reboot. Now I am stuck in a boot loop, until after a while it just stays on the LG splash screen.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Did you root with magisk? Try flashing either a rom or boot into download mode and restore your phone.
I didn't try magisk yet, I followed the officla Lg G5 boot unlock thread which says to root with SuperSU.
Do I use magisk instead of or as well as SuperSU?
When I want to flash a rom is it the same process used to install SuperSU - use TWRP to boo into recovery mode -> install -> select zip -> flash?
Thanks.

So you first must find a rom for your variant of the g5 since it's a European version it's most likely an h850 then, boot into twrp wipe system, art chache, chache, data. Installing magisk is the same as super su
Thanks - can I try and flash the intended custom ROM at this stage - the revolution pie (Android 10) or should this be an official ROM first?

Whatever you prefer should work the best way to get back to stock is threw download mode
I managed to flash Linege 17.1 - seems to work well. The SyncDroid app I used won't restore my SMS messages though. Contacts and call logs were restored ok. My backup file is an xml, can I manually restore this?

Problem running/Installing TWRP on LG G7 ThinQ LM-G710AWM Canadian

I have an ongoing issue with this phone, I want to install TWRP and eventually a custom ROM on my Canadian LG G7 ThinQ LM-G710AWM.
I have been able to root by patching boot_a and boot_b with majisk and using QFIL to modify/write to the partitions.
I was also able to unlock the bootloader by following this post:
[GUIDE] Guide to unlock bootloader for every LG SDM845 except G710TM (With PHOTOS)
IMPORTANT: NEVER ERASE THE ENTIRE FLASH (IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE **STILL CAN BE RECOVERED**) IMPORTANT: FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS IN ORDER TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER SUCCSSEFULLY; DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE BRICKS! YOU ARE FOLLOWING...
forum.xda-developers.com
After deleting both the lafs in QFIL to get fastboot back, I tried flashing several TWRP images which are recommended for my model, and i get an error [fastboot:error "cannot get boot partition size"]
I've tried flashing it to boot_a,
I've tried flashing it to boot_b,
I've tried fastboot boot "TWRP IMAGE" to boot into TWRP temporarily but it shows 'download mode' for about 10 seconds and then reboots normally
I initially crossflashed then refurbished from Android 9 Pie to Android 8 Oreo, using LM-G710AWM, basically a downgrade, for reasons, and still Ive hit a solid wall with this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, there seems to be no way to get into TWRP.
Still with that problem?
