fastboot on N920P - Galaxy Note5 Original Android Development

[Yes, I'm x-posting. Desperate times, etc.]
I can't get there. Could someone point me towards a solution. Here's the OP link
Thanks

Note 5 doesnt have a bootloader
If you want to root or use any custom roms, you need TWRP,
Steps to root:-
1) Download the latest version of twrp.tar for your device from TWRP's website
2) place it in AP in Odin
3) Shut down your phone then press Volume Down, Home Button, Power button simultaneously to boot to Odin/Download Mode
4) connect to your PC and flash twrp
5) Download Magisk v23 from Magisk's github.
6) use an OTG or place it on your phone's sdcard.
7) TWRP is a recovery, so, to open it, shut down your device and then click Volume Up, Home Button, Power button simultaneously until you see the Samsung Note 5 logo, then release the power button only until you boot to recovery.
8) Install it from TWRP
The reason i said v23 instead of v24 is because Magisk Hide is off as default for v24, so, better to install v23 then update magisk later from its app.

You are kind. Thank you.
Even with the information you shared, it still wasn't a clear road ahead. After numerous attempts it became apparent that the ROM revision on the phone ( *DRH1) will not allow TWRP to be installed. After flashing the closest ROM I found (*DQJ1), things finally proceeded as you outlined. Thanks again. I was really stuck.

Thank you both, as this information will be vital, as I try to continue to use my N920P as a daily device. As I am needing to update to a more secure version of Android.

btw volume down+home+power button is called download mode. recovery mode is different. And also your tutorial mentions xposed uninstaller. how to use uninstaller if phone bootloops and we don't have twrp recovery? :/
Sorry, my fault. I have edit it to download mode. Thx for correcting.
I don't find any boot loop. And if you do, then you can try reflashing the phone back to stock.
the original recovery is still there.
you can as well install TWRP but you will find that red kernel error on boot (enforcing).
and you can only boot to TWRP by using NDR utils -- not with buttons.
its the 6th time am getting into bootloop

great need of help from you guys...
i have a samsung a8(sm a800f vietnam, android 5.0.0) from my aunt but she had this phone for almost 2 years and gave it to me. i wanted to make it faster and maybe have an android 6.0.0 on it(if possible). im a super noob on this process but i already tried this thread and ([ROOT][TWRP][Xposed][New] Samsung Galaxy A8 (A800F/A800I) on 6.0.0)<< this too. hope you guys could help me i would very well appreciate it.

Rooting Samsung Tab E (SM-T377W) on 7.1.1

Hi all,
First time poster and honestly, a complete noob re: rooting. I tried once before with a BLU device I had, but had driver issues and just gave up.
Anyway, looking to remove a bunch of bloat from my Tab E that I barely use....... just fired it up today for the first time in months and saw an update to 7.1.1
All of my Google searching links me to this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-official-twrp-gteslte-galaxy-t3419219
My concerns/problems are ....
1. Do I just pick the latest '.tar' file?
2. At no point does the guide actually say when to connect the device to the computer
3. I should be able to maintain my LTE connection after rooting, I assume?
4. I can't seem to get into "download mode", I got into "safe mode" somehow by mistake, but when following the suggestions here:
http://techbeasts.com/how-to-boot-samsung-galaxy-devices-in-download-recovery-mode/
To access "download mode", I get some life.... followed by an increasingly green circle. Get's to 66% with a flashing white circle, and then nothing happens.
5. Even if I could get into "download mode", it says to Hold [Volume Up] + [Home] buttons near the end of the flash, and keep holding them until you are in recovery. but Odin doesn't appear to be overly user-friendly as far as knowing when the end of the flash would be? Haven't got that far though, so mere speculation on my part.
I'm really lost at this point.... can anybody give me any pointers?
****EDIT*** So, I went ahead and tried again - turns out I was able to get it all done...... problem was the instructions didn't quite relate the my Tab E? Power+Vol Down+Home was needed to get into download mode, and Power+VolUp+Home was needed for Recovery.
Funny though, after confirming TWRP and following the reboot promps, device still didn't appear to be rooted. Tried again and "Root Checker" says it's not..... but NOBloat is not prompting me I'm not rooted, when previously it stated the device wasn't rooted? AND, I have SuperSU installed?
Easily done if you follow the rooting guide for the 6.0.1 ... anyway, here's how.
Download Odin (version 10.12.x) and then download TWRP into the same folder:
https://dl.twrp.me/gteslte/twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar.html
Now donwload Super User: https://download.chainfire.eu/1220/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip?retrieve_file=1
Run Odin (preferred in Admin mode) and load : twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar into the AP.
Put your Tablet into Download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power and then Vol Up), connect to your PC and Hit Start on Odin.
Wait for it to fully reboot and Power it Off, now reboot into Recovery mode (Vol Up + Home + Power), once in TWRP, copy Super User file into the Download folder of your Tablet, select Install from TWRP and install Super User. Reboot and enjoy Root
Using updated Odin (3.13.1) to root Tab E SM-T377W
As this post is somewhat dated, would the most recent Odin version (3.13.1) be appropriate?
I have the same Tab E (SM-T377W) running 7.1.1.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Reid.

Root is possible. On firmware version: T377WVLU2BQI6, I just flashed this
TWRP-3.2.3-0-gteslte.img.tar (PM if you need a link. I uploaded it on my drive)
Then flashed magisk through TWRP yesterday.
Couple of notes though. Once you fllash TWRP with Odin, even with auto reboot ticked off, the device WILL STILL reboot. Once this happens, if you're not holding pwr, vol+, & home buttons, the custom recovery will be replaced back to stock. And as always, ensure drivers installed and debugging and OEM unlock is on.

Usually when I flash, I found it's best to use which version of Odin was released at the time the device was. For instance, if I wanted to flash an S7, I'd probably use Odin 3.10. This is only AFTER I've tried my go to Odin version - Prince Comsey. I find it works 90% of the time though. This of course excludes any devices running stock Oreo or Pie. Where it's mandatory to have the latest version of Odin.

Which firmware version do you have on the tablet?? Like, is there a 3 or 2 prior to the B?? I think it's the forth from the end
For example: T377WVLU '2' BQI6 or do you have the 3rd Bootloader?

Firmware SM-T377W T377WVLU3BRG4 [7.1.1]
halp
I've been trying to use this thread and several others as a guide to root my galaxy tab E version sm-t377wVLU3BRG4 running android 7.1.1. I've been trying to root the tablet for 3 days including one click rooting applications both on and off pc.
I can't even get TWRP installed, I've tried using odin to flash it but when it reboots and I'm supposed hold volume up and home to boot into recovery mode it just keeps booting. I don't understand if I'm doing something wrong. Also half the guides I've read have had most of the files removed so I've just googled another guide
@Helium Iz Ninja
Probably your attempt flashing TWRP miserably failed for whatever reason.
BTW: How to install TWRP using ODIN is explained here.
If you have phone's Stock ROM at your fingertips, then re-flash this to bring back phone to its original state.

What is TWRP?
I quote
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
WHAT IS THE USE OF INSTALLING TWRP?
TWRP is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM.
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/

ODIN will show an Added! message on the message box.
Device Added on ODIN
STEP 3:

Click on Start and wait till it completes
Now your Samsung Device is flashed with the TWRP image and you may disconnect your phone. Your phone should restart by itself if not press and hold the power button. Boot into your recovery by holding together power-volume up-and home button.

I clicked on AP button in Odin, and selected the twrp image.tar file. Check.
Then you tell me to click on the AP button again and select the CWM file, but if I do that, then the twrp file is no longer selected.
I'm afraid to guess because even though it's old, I don't want to brick this thing.

To get TWRP on my device, I followed the instructions listed here: tab-4/orig-development/twrp-install-twrp-root-samsung-galaxy-t3111934
(I can't post links. Just put forum.xda-developers in front of that)
Instead of using TWRP 3.0.0 or 2.8, I used this newest verison with Odin 3.09 (instead of 3.12)
And it worked on my T230NU
"SOMEONE ANYONE" ...those mysterious instructions entries...
i probably qualify as an anyone, that is im doing this for the first time, though i have some experience with doing the same thing to my old HP Touchpad (tenderloin) device over and over again over the years, to keep it from throwing up alerts about apps stopping... So yes i was confused by the same glitches in the instructions since i dont want to brick my old tablet and try to follow instructions exactly:
A) in STEP 2:
"Device Added on ODIN"
>> no Odin doesnt actually print those words out, i think the op is sort of restating the sentence above it.
B) in STEP 3:
"Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file"
>> I think this is just a copy/paste error the op took from some other post and never cleaned up, presumably CWM refers to ClockWorkMod which is different recovery in itself, and i don't suspect you can have two recoveries installed, no? plus, its not mentioned anywhere else in this thread no link of anything, so i just ignored that line and proceeded according to the rest of the instructions.
C) STEP 4:
"Select the ODIN Options"
>> another instance of repeating whats already been instructed in the sentence above it.
So I just ignored the items noted above, the only other thing i did that is different from this thread is i had previously installed the samsung USB drivers noted as seemingly important in other threads, i dont know if that matters since ive never tried it without them, but anyways, I hit 'start' and it worked fine and said PASS in about 5 seconds, then a bit later rebooted, but took a couple minutes to get out of the Samsung logo boot screen -i almost thought it was bricked for a moment there- but it finally came through and it all seems okay. so now i can reboot into TWRP and see all of its options, so now im ready to give a try to install the Pixelized OS!
For my T230NU, TWRP reboots (crashes) reliably in the middle of the wiping-the-cache process:
The TWRPs i tried are "twrp-3.0.0-0-degas.img.tar", "twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar" , "twrp-3.3.0-0-degas.img.tar"
I selected the usual four items to wipe: "Dalvic cache", "cache", "system", "Data"
(the built-in one-swipe factory-reset wipe crashes just the same)
I installed them all with Odin 3.12.3
This older version seems just fine: "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-degas.tar"
Will this image work with Verizon Tablet SM-T537V?
Hey, will this work on degaswifi (regular SM-T230)?

TWRP is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM.
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/

Download TWRP version 3.2.1-0 from
http://www.mediafire.com/file/0bhuw8gw233c3wa/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar
HOW DO I INSTALL THE RECOVERY?
1.Download Odin from http://www.mediafire.com/file/sbobzdpre78l569/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
STEP 1:
Put your phone into download mode.
Press and hold these three buttons until you see a WARNING SCREEN! to enter into the Download mode:
Volume DOWN key + Power key + Home key
When you see the WARNING SCREEN press the volume UP key to continue into the Download mode.
STEP 2:
Open the ODIN application on your PC. Connect your phone(while it is still in the download mode) to the PC using a USB cable.
ODIN will show an Added! message on the message box.
Device Added on ODIN
STEP 3:
Click on the AP button on the ODIN application and select the twrp-x.x.x-x-codename.img.tar file.
Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file
STEP 4:
Select the appropriate options before flashing the recovery image.Make sure only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other boxes are un-checked.
Select the ODIN Options
STEP 5:
Select the Start button, which will start the flashing process. When you get the PASS message, then your phone will reboot automatically.
Click on Start and wait till it completes
Now your Samsung Device is flashed with the TWRP image and you may disconnect your phone. Your phone should restart by itself if not press and hold the power button. Boot into your recovery by holding together power-volume up-and home button.
HOW TO UPDATE YOUR RECOVERY?
Your TWRP recovery can be easily updated by flashing an image file. It's very simple and easy.
1.Download the latest version of twrp. Make sure it is a .img file
Download it from http://www.mediafire.com/file/1q0oq8s8yykcxov/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img
2.Boot into the TWRP recovery
3.Press on install and then press install image
4.Click on recovery
5.And follow the instructions and that's it.
If you found this helpful, please give me a thanks. Have a nice day. Enjoy
All these files were obtained from TWRP's official site and from samsung odin. I own nothing and does not claim authority over these files. These files were uploaded to MediaFire for ease of access and for educational purposes.

I have a SM-T230NU (nook). It freezes at boot after the "nook" logo screed is displayed. When I power down it immediately reboots to the same logo screen and again freezes. I can't turn it off without taking the back off and unplugging the battery. When I plug the battery back in after a few minutes, it stays off until I try to boot again and the same cycle repeats itself. Any ideas how to fix this.

TWRP (ianmacd) First Aid thread.

This is NOT my work (Ianmacd) and guide is written by Mr Pickles all credits to him for his install method.
Also this is just a copy and paste but the guide is well written and TWRP should cause less issues.
I'm sure Gieti94 is just perhaps busy with other commitments, credit also to him for his fantastic efforts.
Just a new space for the currently working TWRP so all don't get in a pickle.

Install Guide (Draughted by Pickles) very well written.
---------------------------
- NOT A SINGLE STEP IS UNNESSECARY
- DO THEM _ALL_ EXACTLY!
- ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE GONE - BACKUP!
---------------------------------------
DO NOT INSTALL MODPACK FROM SOLDIER - IT BREAKS TWRP!
---------------------------------------
If you have any problems - contact @PiCkLeS or on Telegram by PiCkLeS or @rp4k
---------------------------------------
All development is by @ianmacd (Ian Macdonald).
---------------------------------------
0 - No matter what you have today, no root or Magisk-only solution or TWRP with Magisk-solution, do ALL the steps..
1 - Make sure you copy the "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" file and "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" file to your sd-card before you start!
2 - Download latest firmware via Samfirm or Frija or in any way you can, and unpack.
3 - Boot your phone to Download mode (Power+Bixby+VolDown) and remember to have the USB connected to your computer, it won't boot to DL-mode otherwise
4 - Keep autoboot etc in Odin settings, put each file in its place (AP, BL, CSC etc) and _dont_ use HOME_CSC, use CSC-only-file.
5 - After Odin is done, your phone will reboot automatically - let it! It can feel like forever, but let it do its restarts and stuff until you are in system-setup
6 - Do the setup as per usual, CONNECT TO WIFI but you can safely just say Skip on sign in and other stuff
7 - When setup says its all finished and you get to the standard launcher - go into Settings and enable Developer settings
8 - This step IS necessary.. If you don't do this step, you might get in pre-normal rrm state and you will have wait 7 days to try again: Enter Developer settings and look for the "OEM Unlock" switch - if you are rooting for the first time, Enable it. If you already have root since before or unlocked your bootloiader before, just confirm that its Enabled and graded out.
9 - If you already have an unlocked bootloader, skip to step 12. If not, continue with step 10.
10 - IF you never have unlocked your bootloader before, Power off the phone and boot into download mode again. You will see the long press volUp option for unlock bl, do that.
11 - IF you never have unlocked OEM before, boot the phone again, do the setup without signing in etc but connect to wifi, enable dev settings, go into dev settings and check that OEM now is enabled and grayed out.
12 - Reboot the phone in recovery mode (Power+Bixby+VolUp and keep holding until you are in stock recovery. Choose and do a factory reset.
13 - Reboot to bootloader with option in Recovery.
14 - Flash the tar you got (S10x-TWRP+Magisk_fixed_by_Ian.tar I Odin in the AP-slot. DISABLE auto reboot in Odin first!
15 - When the tar has flashed - Do as instructed on the phone, hold Power+VolDown for a few seconds and AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK -> quickly press power+bixby+volUp for a _long_ time, and I mean it can feel as if its a full minute! After a while you will see TWRP starting with its start screen, you can now let go and enter TWRP.
16 - FORMAT data, then WIPE data AND Cache. DO NOT LET IT REBOOT
17 - Flash "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" from SD card
18 - Go back to start screen of TWRP, Choose Reboot, Choose Recovery - YOU MUST ALWAYS CHOOSE REBOOT TO RECOVERY and _NOT_ system!
19 - Let the phone reboot into system, it will do some reboots it self, and again it will feel like it takes FOREVER - Just let it do its thing and DO NOT PRESS ANY KEYS!
20 - When your phone is finally done booting, just do the normal setup/signing for real this time.
21 - When you are done and in system/launcher, install "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" from SD card and verify that you now have Magisk Manager installed.
22 - Start Magisk Manager and say YES to what it says, it will do some stuff and then say "Rebooting in 5 seconds" - LET IT BOOT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS this time either..
23 - Now when booted to system, start Magisk Manager and see that you have all green and its installed.
24 - Now you have root.
** Every time you reboot manually, be prepared to hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and let it reboot, you will have root.
** Every time you power off the phone, when you power ON again, hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and it will boot with root.
** Every time you want to enter TWRP-recovery, do as above but KEEP HOLDING THE KEYS UNTIL TWRP-start screen shows then release. Remember to choose reboot to recovery afterwards and you will boot with root.
** IF you screw up and forget or miss the key combo, just let it boot to system, immediately when system is up - reboot again and do the key combo and all is fine again.
This is me just trying to get an emergency first aid space, nothing more, I'm NOT trying to take any credits or dismiss Gieti94.
Thanks All
Thanks for this, have been away for a few days and that thread got crowded pretty quickly and I had no idea what was happening. Thank you!
Note the download link. Never use another one, like someone that adds a megalink or alike. The link I have is maintained and only a couple of hours ago for example Ian's updated multidisabler zip was updated. And it might be om copied content to another site.
/P
Good work all, I've been using this method since Saturday thanks to a PM from PiCkLeS and it now works as it should have from the start, no more accidentally trashing my phone ? Thanks to Ian for his work on this, it's greatly appreciated

There is none of yet but I heard there may be 1 around the corner.
The multi disabler doesn't work for G975N, the Korean version
Still didn't bought my s10+ but does this new twrp method means we can flash custom roms and kernels when they will start rolling?
You have to press on the 3 buttons on any reboot of the phone even if magisk is installed?
Ok, so i cannot now do anything with my device. Only galaxy s10e screen with yellow triangle. Flashed TWRP then i got into TWRP. Tried to reboot to recovery but it only did reboot to TWRP. Connect usb, press power and volume down until phone reboots and then directly press bixby and volume down to enter download mode. Open odin and flash BL/AP/CP and CSC

thank you to everyone who got this done!
Unfortunately I got stuck in pre-normal rrm state.
Can I do anything to get out apart from wait 7 days?

[Recovery][SM-T357W][UNOFFICIAL TWRP 3.5.2_9 for Galaxy Tab A SM-T357W] - Jan 25, 2022

PLEASE BEFORE YOU decide to try this rom, you MUST read all of post 1 and 2 (about 3 minute read). If you think this is an unreasonable request, then stop reading now and find another recovery. Thank you.
I am not responsible for lost data, identity theft, lost money, security vulnerabilities, bricked devices or any other hardware or software malfunctions that comes as a result of flashing this software.
BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE trying this TWRP.

Installation Instructions
Note I do NOT run Windows OS so there are no provided instructions on how to install TWRP using Windows. There's lots of tutorials and videos online on how to install TWRP via Windows. Do your own research. If this is unreasonable to you, don't use this TWRP. Questions regarding how to install TWRP using Windows/odin will go unanswered.
You need to boot the SM-T357W into download mode. Power off. Press home button + power + volume down (farthest away from power button) at the same time. Let go when you see "Warning" text on the screen, then choose volume up to continue. Your screen should now show "Downloading... Do not turn off target"
Linux users can use heimdall to flash this recovery. For example,
Code:
heimdall flash --RECOVERY TWRP_3.5.2_9_SM-T357W_20220125_Unofficial.img
After flashing the recovery image, you must boot into recovery immediately (using the hardware key combination) to run TWRP, otherwise the Samsung software will overwrite TWRP and you will have to start over again. I usually am already pressing the recovery hardware key combination while the recovery image is being flashed. The flash process will be very quick (a few seconds at most).
The recovery hardware key combination is home button + power + volume up (volume up is closest to the power button) all pressed at the same time.
Updates
Unless Android 12 or LineageOS 19.0 requires some mandatory changes to TWRP, this will be the only TWRP build I make for the forseeable future. There will be no planned updates to 3.5 unless there's a major bug or security vulnerability. The only time you need to boot into TWRP is to upgrade the custom rom.
I have been using this TWRP now for almost 2 months before sharing it here.
