Which ROM to choose if I liked LineageOS? - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Guides, News, & Discussion

I can now unlock bootloader on my POCO X3 NFC. It is for Russian market and my current ROM is 12.0.3.0(QJGRUXM). According to manuals I've read, I'll have to flash International ROM V12.0.(3 or 4 or 5).0.QJGMIXM first, otherwise Wi-Fi and Bluetooth won't work.
I'm having difficulties selecting custom ROM. I hoped community could help me.
I'd like to have on my POCO X3 NFC:
MicroG or OpenGapps Pico.
AFWall+ (needs root)
AdAway (needs root)
AppOpsX (needs root)
F-Droid
Google Play Market
K-9 Mail
NewPipe
YouTube Vanced
KeePassDX
OpenKeyChain
I'd like to avoid installing SuperSU. I'd prefer Magisk.
I'll have to install banking software so SafetyNet checks must be passed OK.
Previously I've tried and liked LineageOS on my Mi 5s (capricorn).
I've watched on YT reviews of ArrowOS (looked like LineageOS to me) and RessurectionRemix (it seems to have intimidating quantity of customization options).
Considering above, which custom ROM you'd recommend for me to install?
Currently I'm looking at:
[ROM][10] LineageOS 17.1 (unofficial) [SURYA]KARNA]
[ROM] [11.0.0] ArrowOS POCO X3 [OFFICIAL][SURYA] - Vanilla build.
[ROM] ► [11.0] ► Nitrogen OS Beta
BTW, Android 10 or 11?

ArrowOS (Android 11) + F1xy kernel
You need to flash latest MIUI before flashing ArrowOS. You can download latest xiaomi.eu ROM and than flash ArrowOS to make it easier. Current latest MIUI version is 12.0.7 for surya & 12.0.8 for karna. You will have vanilla or gapps ArrowOS. Choose Gapps build. Install Magisk in TWRP after flashing ArrowOS & kernel. SafetyNet passes out of the box. seLinux is enforcing. Signature spoofing is supported.
So this are the steps for installing ArrowOS + F1xy kernel:
0. Unlock bootloader
1. Flash latest TWRP/OrangeFox recovery with fastboot command: fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
2. Be sure that you're on latest MIUI version (MIUI 12.0.7 for surya, 12.0.8 for karna)
2a. If you're not on MIUI but on custom ROM at the moment, you need to flash latest xiaomi.eu ROM (12.0.7 at the moment) with TWRP/OrangeFox than Format Data, Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
3. After you booted xiaomi.eu, reboot to TWRP/OrangeFox, Flash all this packages in order:
- ArrowOS
- F1xy custom kernel
- Magisk
4. Format Data, Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
5. Reboot.
Now you're on ArrowOS.
BTW, I prefer Aqua Mail to K9 Mail as it's much better optimized & has amazing features.

Thanks, @SkaboXD. Kind of. I specifically mentioned I want to avoid proprietary GApps. And assessing programs list one could tell that I prefer Free (as in Freedom) and OpenSource programs.
Also, I have very serious privacy and safety concerns installing custom kernel. I trust AOSP much more.

Than install Vanilla build of ArrowOS instead and flash Gapps you want (OpenGapps, NikGapps or FlameGapps...) and don't install F1xy kernel. You will miss on useful features & increased performance with good battery life though. And if you're concerned about privacy, why are you using Gapps in the first place?

Open Gapps is a different kind of animal. Unavoidable evil. But I want to decrease harm done to me.
If I was really concerned about privacy and health, I wouldn't use spying tracker cell phone at all.

If you're into privacy I *really* can recommend FairEmail ... you can also get releases from Github: https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail

Pretty much on the same boat as OP...
FYI, after trying a couple of the custom ROMs, I settled on Xiaomi.eu (currently v12.0.7.0 stable) for the time being and am waiting for PX3 LineageOS 17.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4202533/) to become official -- and the MicroG build which will ensue and my preferred target ROM.
On the subject of GApps, I still want to retain access to the Google app store, I just want to avoid my device being colonized by the big G. Last I checked -- through ClassyShark3xodus -- no app required as many permissions as Google Play Services: way over 200, no less, seemingly every possible one!
Time will tell, I guess.

My experience with LineageOS with Open GApps Pico on Capricorn (Mi 5s) confirms that Google Play is working fine. All synchronization is working. All confirmations (you are trying to log in on other device: please check your phone) are working. Banking software is working.
I chose to wait for LineageOS with another custom ROM installed. I've decided to install ArrowOS. Maybe I'll stay on it.
For the history. I'll add benchmark data here as I move through ROMs.

Great.
Main reasons I settled on Xiaomi.eu is a) to retain the native camera app and b) because my work wifi requires a certificate I was unable to use on ArrowOS.

Hey there, I'm saving your mini guide to use on my Poco X3 when it arrives early next month.
However, let me ask you: is that rom really stable for a daily driver? I don't want to keep changing roms because of things breaking up like GPS, NFC, Banking apps etc.

Everything works. I don't use NFC, I just tried Android Beam with Nokia 808 Pureview and it didn't worked. Couldn't send the file with Poco X3 while i could send the file with Nokia 808 Pureview. However, that could be the incompatibility with Symbian. Didn't test it any further.

On 31.01.2021 I have installed ArrowOS. I used Orange Fox recovery. Contrary to all installation manuals, my very first boot into ArrowOS was like 30 seconds or less. And it was encrypted.
I've RTFM and installation went smooth and fast.
So far I like ArrowOS a lot. Sleek and fast. However, LineageOS seems to have more customization options.
And I can't make Text-to-Speech engine to work. I've already sent a bug report with LOG file to developers.

Banking apps work fine and so does NFC, I use contactless NFC payment almost on a daily basis.
Safety net passes right out of the box so banking apps will have no problem with it.
ArrowOS + stock ArrowOS kernel.

Hello I'm looking for a ROM without Gapps which allows me to pass SafetyNet check? Is that possible?
I have already tried crDroid, ArrowOS and StagOS.
Tried Universal SafetyNet Fix, MagiskHide Props Config, no success unfortunately, maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's not even possible to pass SafetyNet without Gapps.
Any help is appreciated.

LOS17.1 unofficial passes safetynet (method to use is described in first or third post of thread)

If only LOS (for microG) would already be official for the POCO X3 NFC, then the decision which way to go would be crystal clear to me!
But I have to decide now and I want OTA + signature spoofing (to be able to use microG instead of Gapps), which currently has set my mind on ArrowsOS for simplicity and stability.
Not having any experience with ArrowsOS yet, I don't know if I'm going to stick to it or will move over to LOS for microG once that one is officially available.
The main advantages of using LOS for microG are the included backup solution, call recorder and of course microG, which is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

Having difficulty encrypting Oneplus X

Hi everyone
I'm trying to set up encryption on my phone running CM13 nighties. I've had a number of problems so far.
The first few times I tries encrypting, it seemed like it would work and would ask for my pin upon boot. But afterwards it would show the boot animations again for hours on end.
So I reformatted the phone and flashed the latest nightly and TWRP.
Now when I try to encrypt the phone it will seem like it's going through the process then reboot, say the encryption was unsuccessful and I have to factory reset my phone.
Anyone having better luck? How can I get around this?
Sent from my ONE E1005 using Tapatalk
I have the same problem, too. Any suggestion?
I believe you need the CM13 from this thread and the revised TWRP in order for the encryption to work.
Sultanxda said:
This is an unofficial CM13.0 ROM based off of the stable branch instead of the nightly branch, with the main goal being stability with an overall good user experience. This ROM has many things in common with my OnePlus One ROM.
Custom kernels are not compatible with this ROM. I will NOT provide support if you install a custom kernel.
ROM features:
Based off latest generic CyanogenMod 13.0 stable sources (root access is NOT included)
OTA updates via built-in CMUpdater
Configurable multi-color notification LED
Custom camera app with several manual controls and high-speed video recording with audio
Custom camera HAL I made myself featuring:
-4K UHD and DCI video recording
-1440p video recording with the front-facing camera
-High-speed video recording with audio at 60 FPS and 120 FPS for 720p, and 60 FPS for 1080p
-Consistent 30 FPS video recording in all lighting conditions
-Intelligent anti-shake algorithm (significantly reduces motion blur when capturing photos)
-Faster autofocus in low lighting conditions
-No stuttering in camera viewfinder
-Improved photo quality
-Photo capture up to 4208x3120 resolution (instead of 4160x3120)
Many other misc. improvements under the hood
Kernel features:
Based off latest CAF Marshmallow kernel source from Qualcomm (LA.BF.1.1.3_rb1.13)
Removed lots of excessive bloat
Dynamic CPU input boost driver I wrote myself (makes the phone feel smooth without destroying battery life)
CPU underclocked to 1958 MHz by default (you can disable this; see why I did this in the FAQ in the 3rd post)
Custom thermal control driver I wrote myself (features 8 thermal throttle steps; keeps the phone cool)
LCD KCAL by Savoca
Westwood TCP congestion algorithm (enabled by default)
F2FS support
NTFS support
No placebo patches, features, or compiler "optimizations"
Many other misc. improvements not listed here

Installation instructions (for first-time installation):
First, perform a backup of your existing setup, and then perform a clean install (wipe /data and /system; TWRP is recommended).
If you plan on using encryption with this ROM, then flash the custom TWRP build in the Downloads section below before flashing the ROM. This custom TWRP build is needed if you want to be able to access data encrypted using this ROM while booted into recovery. Otherwise, you will not be able to access your encrypted data while your phone is in recovery mode.
Then, flash the ROM, flash a Google apps package, SuperSU if you want root access(ONLY v2.65 OR HIGHER), and then reboot.
Installation instructions (for updating to a newer release):
If you are already running my CM13.0 ROM, then you can update to a newer version of the ROM via the built-in OTA updater or by simply dirty-flashing the new ROM build without wiping anything.HOWEVER, do NOT reinstall Google Apps after installing a new update.

Thanks for doing that, I know that's something that's been missing for some time.
Do you think you'll maintain it "long"-term? (you're using it for yourself?)
Are you releasing by hand, or do you have scripts to automate releases?
It would be nice to also have arm a-only variant, since usually those are cheaper devices, with a lot less RAM, which would be much more happier without Google apps.
Missing complementary old MapsAPIv1 will be added in next release (framework/com.google.android.maps.jar) + specific attached wallpaper

Yes, I will try to follow your releases versioning so user's reports will be synced (build: I've added an inherit ufo.mk -> vendor/ufo, to your generated treble_arm64_*vN.mk)
For arm32 low cost device release, are you referring to treble_arm_avN(vndk-binder32) or treble_a64_avN(vndk32) ?

https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=287186
com.google.android.maps.jar & LosTerminal are now included
btw, I choose to deodex embedded webwiew (Los v69), but was not able to build a stable complete deodexed aosp (#WITH_DEXPREOPT_BOOT_IMG_AND_SYSTEM_SERVER_ONLY := true), any hint ?
For info, I use your embedded prebuilt Phonesky(gapps-go) to initiate Playstore account; already paid apps are ok, but with microG/Magisk 17.3 (sony xz1), I fail on CTSprofile match.
EDIT Playstore NOT certified (PlayProtect...) despite GSFid registration
Since some don't have twrp, I'm also looking for a simple "bridge" to patch etc/hosts from within Settings/.../DevOptions, do you believe it could break Treble securities & bootloop : https://github.com/AICP/packages_ap...ndroid/settings/aicp/hfm/HfmHelpers.java#L108 ?
1000Thx again for your heavy works.
Any Screenshot?
Newest version works great !!! Play store works (once enable all the MicroG settings). Waze works for GPS (Google Maps would not work for my Moto G6 XT1925-6).
I tested latest version...a good work but it would much better if there are no apps preinstalled, like here:
https://lineage.microg.org/
Just installed latest arm32_binder64 version on j6 (j600fn to be more exactly) booted fine but without RIL, stock camera crashed at launch.

Can you elaborate ? Not all users have twrp on their device, so they need all @ale5000 prebuilts in/system + Playstore + Contact/Calendar_GoogleSync;
-classic "old" fdroid 0.102.3 in /system helps users decide to upgrade to any "modern" version with option to downgrade back,
-NightshadelabsAnotherbrowser is tiniest existing apk : browser switcher.
-(hotbuilts are not preinstalled...)
-most of all users forgot barcode/QRcode and miss it when they need it, also it useful to test camera (same as devCamera... and ZxingClient best you can find).
Finally KalturaDeviceInfo (I'm also the dev) is embedded because, conversely to Lineage, aosp don't include any dynamic reporting, and should helps users ( @conanedogawa1011 , @SkyWorldWide ) to overview their device & report: my next release will include fdroid signed edition.
(will also probably use MicroG gmscore semi-official @Setialpha ' release & repo)
All these "preinstalled" floss can be disabled via settings: your next ota will keep them disabled automatically.

DevCamera & KalturaDeviceInfo can help you understanding the behavior: check latest(rc6) for "#CAMERA2API="in json for more details, and find appropriate focused log (clean all recent apps+ launch adb shell logcat + launch camera...)for Phhusson (hardware bug)
I been on this rom for few weeks now, very stable.
0,4% / h idle drain with 2 sims. Getting 6-7 h screen on
No bugs at all. Good work!
Device: S9
maybe on update more optimization for more battery life
hello, thank you!
is there a separate patched microG package which can be installed in TWRP over vanilla-nosu AOSP?

[NOV 15][Kernel] HTML5 Kernel

HTML5 KERNEL
"Low overhead, light and the way of the future" - sultanxda
(he wasn't referring to this but whatever)
This Kernel aims to be as simple as possible with only useful added features, you may request for features and we will consider them.
Features:
Compiled with GCC (cuz clang sucks)
Removed unnecessary bloat
Reduced power consumption
Improved zRAM and memory management
Upstreamed to the latest Linux 4.9 stable (based off ALS)
First kernel with touchscreen in TWRP fixed
Some cool patches
A lot of less cool patches
Magisk support
Westwood+ is now the default tcp algorithm
Brickported Backported patches from Sony, CAF and others
refer to the source for the rest I am lazy
TLDR:
It's better than stock and the best custom kernel out there (arguable)

HTML5 kernel v137
TL;DR: Download
Join our Telegram group if you want more frequent kernel updates
Yet another stable update! (that I did not even test)
This build is the final release supporting Android 9.0 Pie, next versions are going to support Android Q exclusively.
Brief changelog:
Merged Q beta 4 tag (also supposedly fixes rare live photo crash)
Updated to Linux 4.9.181
Various scheduler and cpuidle updates
Further vmalloc enhancements
Other minor changes
does this work on the Q beta?
Agree, this is the best kennel
Still no luck in running this kernel on stock Android 10 (blueline-qp1a.191005.007-factory-c36610c6). Version HTML5_137 brings bootloop (fastboot tells "error boot prepare" message).
NEW MAJOR UPDATE: v210
Now, with Android 10 support! A lot of work has been done since the last update, ehehh... yes, we still exist
I suck at coming up with huge placebo changelogs, so just believe me at that statement
Follow the link and flash dis new build right away (if you still haven't lost your patience): Download

[ROM][SM-T580][SM-T585][UNOFFICIAL] Lineage 17.1 | Q | 64bit 20200815 (Discontinued)

As I said several times, if someone starts to build the current version of the lineage that I do, I completely close the project.
In May, I closed the port, based on 10 android and now the time to completely close all work on exynos7870. There was only one reason why I didn't do it earlier - I promised to fix the sound during calls in the LTE version. Now all done, I dont have any desire and motivation to do anything for the exynos7870.
This decision is final, I switched now to the work on note pro 12.2 wifi variant, my smart home and think about starting tab s6.
Thanks to everyone who has been with me all these years, I will see you on other projects.
I'm not responsible for any damage to your device of any sort.
By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.
Process at your own risk!
If you want to check firmware - please make backup.
Instructions
1. Install latest TWRP
2. Download the zip(s) - firmware and Google Apps additional package (optional)
3. Backup all partitions (it least efs) and store somewhere - it need to do - because you can loose imei
4. Full wipe all
5. Flash firmware and gapps

Finally, I finished the first version of the new android q.
Initially I thought it would be an easy walk. But google in the new version made a huge amount of changes. And I spend about weeks to made something working.
I rebuild the config, wrote a library with sensors from scratch, there were big problems with wifi and sound. For the sound, I had to build a 32bit version to get the missing libraries.
hello how r u?
thx for your great works,
i always try your roms and you are the best
please is there any bugs for t585 before i try it?
and can u tell me how can i backup all of my phone with internal storage like norton ghost on windows pc?
can u tell me your telegram channel?
Hi, thanks for your great work.
I have installed and tested. For now this I have found:
- Magisk 19.3 and 19.4 do not work. Do not start the rom after installation.
- The battery percentage cannot be displayed in the status bar.
Seems to work GREAT on the 580, the only problem i have is I cant use the home button to wake the tablet. I've tried to configure the buttons in setting but it doesn't work. Only the power button will wake it....

Same here thanks for rom Valera
When my T580 boots, I get a message saying there is an internal error and to contact the manufacturer. I just ignore it and everything seems to work ok. That and the battery % are the only two nits I've come across so far.

I have that fault also with SM-T580 and in the Xiaomi Mi A1. It is a fault of Lineage. Just ignore it.
Clash Royale and Brawl Stars work great. The tablet is very fluid.
Great rom, first custom rome redirects the music via usb to my external dac without
extra app!!! Thanks for your great work Valera1978!
Thanks Valera
It works much smoother than stock and earlier aosp.
In addition to what the colleagues mentioned, it happens to me that in Google Chrome I open two tabs and restart the tablet
On the other hand with Firefox in a quick test of several tabs this did not happen.
Thank you for your spectacular work.
Thanks for the Android 10. Fast rom but some random reboot.
This rom look awsome, i will flash it when i will be able to unlock my tablet with the home button
Reboots
Updated to the 09/28 version. Have a problem with the tablet rebooting. I'm trying to use AZ Recorder to record streams from Tubi TV. Start AZ and then Chrome and try to load the Tubi site and the tablet reboots. Did the same thing on the earlier version.
New version 20190929. Hope random reboots now gone away. Was done set of fixes.
Checking few hrs, no any reboots.

My primary phone is xiaomi mi9 - more then month I'm on android q and magisk 19.3 working great here.
I'll back to check magisk soon, I need root too.

Thanks for update. Random reboot go away. I found few bug. Accelerator and recent files display issue. Thanks

CAOS 11 (Custom AOSP OS) is a project which based on @phhusson's Treble GSI AOSP 11. I began it because original project have not only pros (stability, speed, support) but also some issues and limitations - pure AOSP code have some bugs / haven't much useful things and it's a hard way pulling it. So i did this fork. System can run with SELinux enforced state, as an original Phh AOSP GSI. Fully compatible with PHH-Treble patches. Has dynamic root which can be activated/deactivated without reboot - 'su' binary and SuperUser app (can works on all devices even with system read-only). Also has dynamic SafetyNet helper (but it compatible not with all devices), users have four ways to pass SafetyNet: a. just enable SafetyNet option (recommended) b. disable SafetyNet and enable "Spoof Pixel 5" then reboot c. enable both options and reboot d. mount system as RW and create empty file /system/phh/secure (legacy method), and in the Recovery do Wipe Data or Factory reset

<ARCH> can either be arm, a64 (arm32_binder64) or arm64
x can either be a or b
y can either be v, o, g or f
Z can be N or S
b = a/b
a = a-only
g = gapps
o = gapps-go
v = vanilla (no gapps included)
f = floss (free & open source apps instead gapps)
N = no superuser
S = superuser included
Z = dynamic superuser included

Yes, I flashed caos-v305-210419-arm64-agZ. I'm unable to find any settings/app entry for WellBeing.
@eremitein - thanks for your work. The ROM is great and fast.
I have it installed on Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro. There are some problems with sound and screen backlight but both of them can be resolved from Phh treble settings. I have posted solutions in X3 Pro thread.
I have one question - in case I would like to update CAOS in future. Is there any "official" way to do this ? Is it possible at all ? Or clean flash is required every time you post new version ?

How to update GSI
< only same ROM variants >
• go to TWRP, make wipe Dalvik cache (optionally, but recommended)
• install new GSI img to system (or reboot to fastboot/fastbootd and flash GSI)
• boot to TWRP again, resize System
• reinstall same GApps if used before
note: dirty update is not supports by me, do not send bug reports - if you will have bugs first try clean install

I have one too, and you can simply flash a new version on top of the old one in fastboot without wiping, works totally fine without loss of data.
BTW @eremitein , did you work some magic on VoLTE in the latest releases, or is it on @phhusson side? For me it just works out of the box suddenly, no more fiddling with IMS or APN settings, see screenshot. This is on your latest crDRom, really really nice, see screenshot:
