ATT G8x Firmware Dumps - LG G8X ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

As the title implies , this thread will contain g8x att firmware backs ups for people to use, since we don't have kdz for our version of the g8x, these backups will hopefully help people recover phones.
If you have a backup please pm me or post it here and i will add it to the main OP. Also an easy way to dump your firmware is to use Partition Backup
If you do decide to dump your firmware, only backup slot partitions, mostly only those can be shared. Most others are device unique. (you need Bl unlock and root to dump them with this app, with firehose/qpst you dont.)
Only restore this on a Android 10 slot
Also this vendor parttion is decrypted keep this in mind while restoring it.
Firmware List:

If you have issues downloading let me know.

Do you have a AT&T LG G8 Android 10 dump?
Also, how would one go about using the Android 10 dump on their LG G8? (Basically how do you install it?)

Not for att g8, i only have a g8 from sprint, im not sure how you would go about using this to upgrade from 9 to 10, i think it has to be flashed on secondary slot. i would go to the lg v50 telegram group and ask there, so you can be sure 100%

so i can only do this if i have root access on my lg g8x from at & t?

Forgive my ignorance but how does one go about using this backup to restore a bricked G8X...?
Need a step-by-step primer on this if anyone would be kind enough to teach, as I'm only familiar with KDZ's and using LGUP 1.14 Dev Mode for older LG devices...the G8X will not function with this version, so it's not straightforward
Thanks in advance

no, you can use it without root(use firehose/qpst), though my vendor is decrypted no idea how that will affect it.

Just want to offer a warning to anything thinking about using the above referenced backup - I used it myself on a soft bricked G8X (AT&T) using QFIL on EDL/9008 mode to upload the unpacked IMG's. I went from soft brick to hard brick.
When I first started off using this I uploaded only the system, boot and abl...when I started seeing a fastboot screen (which I hadn't seen since) I felt like I was moving in the right direction so I uploaded the remaining partitions. After exiting EDL the device refuses to turn on...no LG splash, no android warning, no longer any access to download mode. No amount of button pushing brings EDL mode back while connected via USB. Doesn't charge using wireless charger (which it used to before).
I'm very confident I did not mismatch any partitions, though uploading the OP image did mention that there was data overflow and asked me if I wanted to continue. Further, this backup did not contain all of the img's that would ordinarily be present in a KDZ, but contained imgs that a standard KDZ do not have.
Since I can't get to EDL I can't restore the backups I had made of it's previous soft-bricked state.
It's just really frustrating, and I've learned my lesson never to buy a device from a carrier that doesn't allow access to it's KDZ firmware file (or cannot be crossflashed to one that does).
Your mileage may vary of course but I definitely feel like I'd want to stop someone from trying the attached if they're still in a soft-bricked state.
As an aside I would appreciate anyone who might have any ideas of how to reach EDL mode again. Thanks

You will have to open the back and short some contacts.
Or give to service center if in warranty.

This should only be used mostly to restore certain parttion, not the whole backup in one go, as you said this is not a kdz. Also messing with op partition is never recommended, edl did warn you of the parttion size mismatch. Also depends what you had on your primary slot, i would not recommend flashing this on a pie slot. Sucks that you hard bricked.

Need dump full G8X ATT, thank all, I need all partitions except the userdata partition, please help me, thanks

Need a full Nougat dump from a running phone.

EDIT: no longer need this. It is possible to make your own...
There is a chance that I may not have fried my V10 by shorting the test point, but to test that I need a full Nougat dump (something I can not believe I didn't make from my own phone -- I only have a full MM dump).
If there is someone that has rooted Nougat AND flashed all the Nougat partitions (v30b_update.zip and full_nougat.zip), and is willing to do a full dump, please let me know.
It is preferable if you have access to Linux because you will need to null out some partitions that have private data, and it is much easier to explain how to do it on Linux.
Lastly, this image will be 64gigs uncompressed, but it compresses very well.
Thanks,
-- Brian
Wish I can help, but mine is not rooted..
Hopefully I can bring my phone back to life (one way or another) so I can continue on. I got my board of eBay, but it was more dead than my current board.

if i can downgrade it , ill re upgrade to rooted nougat and get a dump but i dont know how to dump and dont have the image for downgrade.
@runningnak3d There's a guy selling one in General. Perhaps you can get a dump off of him?
@runningnak3d I currently have one V10 that I cannot get past the Checking Updates screen in the setup wizard on Nougat (with TWRP) which I am considering performing a KDZ wipe and another that went black screen after I flashed MM (also with TWRP). If I do a KDZ wipe on the first one, I could do a dump for you but I would have to look up how to. You are also welcome to buy the board from the second V10 from me but I'm unsure if you can revive it.
Thanks all, but everything I needed to make my own was staring me in the face.

i will help if i can , but didnt have root yet
@runningnak3d I'm in a need of a Nougat dump for H901, to make a bootable sdcard. Could you share yours or guide how to make one from nougat kdz?
Due to messing the aboot partition (while trying to shut the "big cores" off) the phone does not boot, nor enter download mode. On powering on, it only vibrates. QPST does not work with the phone put into 9008, it returns "target may be unstable". Before that, the phone was rooted, with bootloader unlocked, updated to nougat via the recovery, with the ZIPs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Be glad to, and it is easy, but you need dd. If you use Windows, there may be some program that can do something similar, but I haven't used Windows in years. You can always install a very basic Cygwin environment...
* Insert 64gig SD card
* Dump KDZ
* dd if=PrimaryGPTxxxxxx of=/dev/mmcblk0
The xxxxx above is because I can't remember what it gets dumped as, but it will be obvious.
Once you have the partition table on the sdcard, get a list of the partitons:
* gdisk -l /dev/mmblck0
Then proceed to flash the rest of KDZ onto their individual partitions.
For example, I believe that modem was partition 1, so:
* dd if=modemxxxxx of=/dev/mmcblk0p1
Repeat for every partition from the KDZ except system (unless you want to fully boot from the SD card). Also, you can flash recovery with TWRP, and then you can boot from the SD card to recovery and then you only need to flash your aboot partition, so you don't have to use download mode to flash the entire KDZ.
Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
EDIT: If you do boot to recovery from the SD card, you will need to make sure to flash the correct device. When you go into an adb shell, you will have two mmcblk devices (mmcblk0 and mmcblk1). I don't remember which will be which, so to be safe flash the aboot partition on both...

@runningnak3d Thank you for your reply! I have Ubuntu 17 as a bootable DVD. Does the sdcard have to be formatted in a specific filesystem before doing this? Another question I have, is that the sdcard shows up as dev/sdd for me but it also shows that dev/sdd1 exists on it, so to which should I dd the GPT table to?
I tried to dev/sdd and wrote the rest of KDZ to the partitions, but the phone has not booted (its 64gb sd hc class 10 card). After dd-ing the PrimaryGPT, the terminal mentions that backupGPT is corrupted and that MBR is protective on the sdcard. Also, GParted shows "unknown" for each partition, and modem partition shows up as fat16 one.
Perhaps I should try different nougat KDZ? the phone's sticker under battery says it's H901, so was written in the phone under settings menu (phone also had t-mobile bloatware) and in LGUP when updating to MM, yet the motherboard has VS990 written on it.
My phone said vs990 on the board as well, so that isn't the issue. You need to flash a few partitions from the phone that aren't in the KDZ ... you will have to get someone to dump them for you.
The only place I had them was on an SD card that I have already wiped since I don't have a v10 anymore.
I will have to look in SBL1 to get you a list that you will have to ask for.
They are all just firmware, and contain nothing specific to a users phone, so anyone with a rooted Nougat phone can safely dump them for you.
Please bear with me. I am currently trying to revive my H910 and I order an H918 that I am going to use to help someone with, but I will try to get you the info ASAP.
H901 VS990 board 9008 brick help
@runningnak3d Hey, you seem like an expert at unbricking V10s. I have a H901 that has vs990 motherboard in it. It bricked while I was updating through LG Bridge. I now only have access to qualcomm 9008 mode.
From my understanding, there are 2 ways to solve this. QFIL or booting from dump image through sdcard. The qfil way didn't work for me, since there aren't any compatible .mbn files and xml for VS990 owners. So my only other option is getting to download mode via sdcard method, and I need the dump files for that. If I do what you've told @Mr_pringle, would my phone enter download mode? What exactly would I have to do? Thanks
@N3XTN3XUS What version were you on, and what version did LG Bridge try to update you to?

mm to nougat. Do you have the dump img for mm by any chance?
Unfortunately you are going to have to roll your own with the instructions I gave above.
In order to do that, you need to find out what model you should be flashing. I know you said your board said VS990, I am sitting here looking at my dead board, and it says VS990 on it as well, so H901 Nougat *should* have worked for you. I don't have any idea where you should start looking, but you do need to know that before making an SD card or even if you make a perfectly good card, it won't work

Rooting version H933 (Canadian V30)

Hi everyone, I've followed the WTF thread to unlock the bootloader on a V30 H933 (the Canadian version), but even after unlocking there's no fastboot support on the phone, only the US998 version seems to have it. Trouble is that Rogers, my local operator, only supports VoLTE and VoWiFi on their recognized devices - I tried having US998 running on my phone, calling their support and possibly getting some actual configuration I could put on the phone, but their response was "your phone is defective and needs to be replaced".
All that said, my goal here is to somehow install TWRP on this phone and root under the original ROM, so I can have the features I need from the network. So far, I've been pretty unsuccessful in this, so my plead would be: could anyone chime in to help me either
flash the minimal necessary over US998 to get H933 functionality/network information back as to reenable VoLTE and VoWiFi on my operator
come up with an update.zip or some other file I could use to flash a Magisk-patched boot.img
pack a full flashable ZIP image of the Canadian ROM (my last attempt at this left the phone in bootloop)
an alternative idea I haven't thought about that could help?
Ideally, at the end of the process, I'd like to have TWRP and Magisk installed on the phone, but I could settle for simply Magisk.
Once again, any help or pointers are more than welcome and appreciated.
I think you can extract a h933 kdz and flash individual partitions that do not have to do with recovery or the bootloader. You can probably use the dd command for it. I think the partitions you dont flash are anything with boot in it, abl and recovery. There may be a few more however.

I tried something similar, extracted a KDZ and put the necessary BIN files on a flashable ZIP I found around. All I achieved was bootlooping the device...
I have an H933 on Freedom Mobile, and running the stock FM firmware. The loss of VOWIFI (and VoLTE) are exactly what i thought would happen if I proceed with flashing to US998.
I think #1 is right; that you may be able to restore access to network specific functionality but it would depend on being able to isolate the specific required "patch".
With this in mind, take a look at this post from the WTF! Thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=76613814
That user flashed some files (modem binaries from the original device firmware I think) and was able to restore VOWIFI and VoLTE functionality on the Verizon network.

What menu is that from @cre4per? Have you had the opportunity to confirm staying on LTE while receiving a call?
That would be good news to hear VoLTE working on a Canadian network using a generic phone model (instead of proprietary stuff).

Looking at this this morning. I don't think that is an indication that you are connected to a VoLTE service; just that your device is ready to accept it if the right service becomes available. I have that switch turned on and the service menu even says the voice network is LTE too (see image below) but Freedom Mobile doesn't even offer VoLTE service so it isn't possible that I actually have VoLTE operational.
I would interpret the LTE provision switch as turning on or off the functionality in your device, not a connection authorization from the network. Sort of like turning on the HD calling option on your device; it allows the possibility but won't do anything unless the service provider has the capability and authorizes it on your connection.
If someone has VoLTE working, could you check the menu cited by @cre4per, then hit the options (3 dots) and in there, select IMS service status? It lools like this is where you *should* see if the network has connected you to their VoLTE service (see image below).
I don't know how to interpret the, "Voice Network: LTE" on the main menu screen.
Just check and switches to 3g on calls also when going into that ims menu says unavailable

As @Mad Medik mentioned, so far I don't know of any Canadian operators enabling VoLTE (or VoWiFi for that matter) to generic phones. I have a Rogers P10 Plus that's registered under my account as my main phone and which I reflashed to have these features available, but it just won't work. I've had extended arguments with Rogers representatives about it, and the 1+3T I'm presently using even have the same config your phone is showing: VoLTE Provisioned, but IMS shows as Not Registered so nothing else works. I'm waiting on an LS998 I bought to arrive, I'll try flashing H933 on it to see if it actually allows me to register on IMS.

KDZ was for Oreo, indeed. It was the one I used to bring the phone to the latest (at the moment) update available.
As for which partitions I flashed, I was gonna give you a list, but to make it short the only partition not flashed was recovery.

As far as I know there are some boot partitions that should not be flashed, which may have caused the soft brick. I know autoprime used to make these zips for the G3 and runningnak3d made one for the V10, you might want to cross reference the partitions they used and what they didnt. Probably the V10 first because the G3 is relatively ancient. I think in essence you should just be able to flash boot, system and modem and rpm though, but you would need 2 combine the split up system images after the extract.

The reason why I was flashing everything is because I used this thread to recover from a previous soft brick I stumbled upon. Upon speaking to the thread creator, he mentioned I should be able to follow a similar process to achieve an H933 flashable file. Did that and, well, managed to soft brick the phone... I might try your idea, though.
So, from my knowledge of attempting to get VoLTE working on an HTC 10, I suspect you won't get VoLTE working on anything other than Rogers H933 firmware. For whatever reason, the programming required for VoLTE isn't on the USIM card in your phone, but rather programmed into the phone by the provider. This means, unless your phone model is sold and supported for VoLTE on the provider you wish to use it on, you're screwed like I was, trying to get VoLTE working on my HTC 10 on Rogers.
This being said, the good news is we are back to CDMA tech here, where the only thing preventing you from using your third party phone with your provider is knowing what code to enter, and what parameters to program in. Since my H933 is on Telus, my programming won't do you much good.
What you're looking for is the IMS settings or IP Multimedia Subsystem settings, as this is what carries the VoIP packets that consist of VoLTE. If someone were to post the settings from their Rogers H933, you may be able to get VoLTE working on US998 firmware.

For those who want the file, just download it by the following link or download the file that is on the thread.

Tried the same sequence with a Stock ROM last week, but didn't achieve to get back to original ROM. I always get the prompt in the initial boot, that a different OS is installed than the original. This has the consequence that I cannot upgrade wit OTA anymore. And there is an upgrade already available (Jan security patch)

I guess that the software channel was reteu.
A second moto g7 phone I bought - and is unmodified - says "software channel: reteu".
The information on the package of my phone says XT1965-3.

I guess that the software channel was reteu.
A second moto g7 phone I bought - and is unmodified - says "software channel: reteu".
The information on the package of my phone says XT1965-3.

This will get rid of that message we all got too:
[Bootlogo] Modded Bootlogo from unlocked bootloader
The new RETEU stock version was just updated in last few days, before that not available and you could have used the RETAIL channel that I mentioned above, it worked fine for several users on RETEU channel.

Get rid of the message?
Does that also mean that OTAs will work? That banking apps will not complain about the integrity of the system?
Thanks!

Yes, you said: except for the message at the start "Your device has loaded a different operating system."
After unlocking bootloader there is some message like this on starting device, keep in mind we all got these too and everything is fine but we like to cover it up with a different bootlogo, just looks better that is its only purpose. This message is because you also upgraded the firmware, meaning it's not really a different OS but only a different version of your correct OS.
Does that also mean that OTAs will work? That banking apps will not complain about the integrity of the system?

For G7 Plus we are not getting the OTAs properly after unlocking or rooting, I was originally rooted on PPW29.98-28 and repeatedly got the notifications of upgrading to 29.98-66-2 but it kept failing, the only way to stop it was freezing the Moto Update Process using Titanium Backup. So my only remaining option to upgrade was to fastboot flash the full firmware, as you just did, it wipes your data but gets you to the same place.
With future updates we may be able to capture them and then a dev can make them into a TWRP flashable zip with no wiping of internal data. We had that on G5 Plus which was a nice thing and they are still doing that. But until that might happen the best we can do is the same for now - when your channel has an update just get it from lolinet (these are all official stock firmwares there) and fastboot flash after backing up your data.
Usually it is more from the rooting (if you did that too) that may mess up your banking or other apps, but in Magisk there are settings that may work on that, you'll just have to try and see but there are mixed results. My choice is to not use banking apps on my devices anyway even if not unlocked or rooted, I just do it from home on a computer that I won't forget and leave out in public somewhere. :crying:

So you expect that in future my phone will be OK again? And receive OTAs while having Magisk installed.
I tried indeed to Magisk my phone, as I did with my old OnePlus One.
Which leads to TWRP, but then I discovered that the recovery has disappeared on this Moto!?
Then I was lost, and read about A/B and treble(?).
Concerning the banking applications: Even if I handle the banking transactions on my Mac, I still need the banking app on my phone for authentication.
Which is also true for accessing my medical data (GP, hospitals, etc), insurance companies, taxes, etc.
Last question: Is there a full description of how to magisk my phone?

Sorry not to reply yet, I sometimes have other things going on besides my phone. Also I thought I gave you a good answer on the situation, based on what I know as just another user (not a dev, not with Moto).
Yes, there have been changes since your last phone, it was the same for me. So it's good to find out as much as possible before deciding to unlock & root again, because the results may not be like before. We used to unlock and flash TWRP directly but we can't do that now or maybe brick the phone. It is always the risk when choosing not to remain fully stock/locked/etc as when you bought it, and with that is a responsibility to do the research first and not just expect other users to tell you every step.
So I don't know if things will change, but for now we can't get OTAs anymore after unlocking. For me I didn't mind and I am willing to upgrade manually if that let's me work with the device the way I like with root & using custom ROMs etc. I didn't plan to ever go back to how I bought it and don't need banking apps or other types that rooting might mess up. For others that may not be the case so they must learn the situation then decide for themselves.
As for installing Magisk, now we have TWRP working enough to just put the Magisk zip on your SD card and install it in TWRP. Before we had a functional TWRP we had another method by installing Magisk Manager and using it to patch the boot.img then fastboot flash that, but it's not needed anymore since TWRP, just do it the old way now.
Flashing the roms from lolinet, in my case ( RETEU[/URL) is a complete reset of the phone, I assume.
To flash, these steps should be right:
Copying the firmware to sdcard.
Boot in TWRP
Flashing the lolinet firmware.
Delete Dalvik Cache.
Should TWRP and Magisk be reinstalled immedeately after this procedure? Or renew the developer mode, reinstall twrp and magisk?

It won't work to flash full firmware in TWRP, so far the only way is using fastboot with phone connected to a computer in bootloader (unlocked) mode. Unzip firmware into your fastboot/ADB folder and also the batch file available in this thread, then run the batch file.
Yes this will reset/wipe your phone (except for SD) so backup your data first, and it will be like when you first bought it. You can reinstall TWRP and then Magisk, but boot to system first and set things up including enabling USB debugging setting in developer options again.
I am going to try and update now as the notifications are much too annoying.

Remove the line
'fastboot erase userdata'
from the flashROM.bat file and it won't factory reset. It will act like an upgrade.

Can I use a different retail code than current stock? My phone is XT1965-2, PPW29.98-28, RETLA. The system reminders are all in Spanish. Could I update to PPW29.98-66, EEGB (UK English) without a problem?
Also, if this is possible, could I update by removing the 'fastboot erase userdata' line from the BAT file, or, due to the language change, would I need to leave that line and do a factory reset?

We are now in this forum. Why some dork mod moves these too early?
Why here, why not to the K8 forums instead?
The link I posted should work with your device...
Just got told to go to the k8 forums because im really just trying to get the bootloader unlocked. Temp root is nice but my plans involve a recovery and a fully rooted phone. Im trhing to develop a way to compile apps and operating systems completely on the device but i need full access.
Im looking for firmware for LG K8 2018 X210ULMG. Where can i find it ?
go to google and type in "LG K8 + LMX210ULM stock rom" you will get at least five pages or more.

I can't fin anywhere for X210ULMG. Try and when you will find paste here link because anywhere is this rom.
which android version do y0u have 9n your k8. I also need you to go to settings system software info and tell me the software versiion. And just for SandG no seriously, open up a terminal in terminal emulator and type getprop. im looking fir the value of
ro.lge.swversion_arb
to be of further assistance may i ask what exactly you are using it for? ie reflash stock fix brick or other. i can help you with the best plan of action and any other how to.
If you are still out there the ULMG and ULM are the same device. There is no ULMG stock rom. So you will need to flash your K8+ using the ULM firmware. If you are looking to roll back to get to the bootloader the lowest version you can find is a letter F version. None so far have an ARB value so happy flashing.
I myself own this device and its an easily rootable phone with bootloader unlock. Just flash the kdz with the lowest letter value then adb reboot bootloader and then in fastboot mode use fastboot oem unlock and your free to flash any cv1 device twrp recovery.img to the phone.
Just make sure to use either carliv image kitchen or android image studio to check and make sure that system, syatem.img, are both ext4 in recovery.fstab. System.img will probably be labled emmc which will cause failure to mount. Also cache and data as well. Firmware/modem should be labled as vfat. Just as if they were labled if you looked at original fstab.
To root just extract boot.img from kdz and patch using magisk and flash using fastboot flash boot boit.img then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img When booting into twrp first time flash no verity opt encrypt and make backup. Upon exiting make sure all parts are mounted or twrp loop will occur.

I have problem because one month ago I flashed My K8 ULMG with kdz for Aristo 2 . I downloaded the software from Aristo 2 and made Brick through it.
Now it doesn't turn on, gives no sign of life, nothing. When connected to a laptop, the computer can only see Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
Do you know solution for it ?
There are two versions of the k8+ a qualcomm version and an mtk version. Did you read my post after your last reply. I was trying to help you determine that sort 0f thing.
As for a fix.... no as of currently there is no fix for either the qc or mtk versions once bricked. i am working on possible solutions but those are not going to be any time soon.
Your best bet at this point is to look for a used and damaged phone and replace the board in your phone with a different board. Find a k8+ lm-x210ulm or an aristo 2 board. They are cheap around $20 us and can be found with broken screens. They have no arb values so can be flashed and downgraded to get the boot loader unlocked and reflashed and upgraded after with guidance.
Dont feel to bad it happens. I have 4 boards that are trash but im still gonna try to unbrick them. But please what ever you do dont do it with out guidance. pm if you need and ill help.

any way to root my v60 T-mobile?

this was certainly an interesting experience, i could unlock the bootloader, but doing it via the file thing provided it won't work, going to fastboot and doing fastboot oem unlock, then booting into a twrp recovery and flashing magisk v24.3, it bricked the OS and i had to fight to get it to boot, twrp broke and is locked it refuses to unlock, it gave me an odd looking recovery mode as if it was from android kitkat or something (thats the best i can describe it, it looked much different from the other recovery to wipe) and it said it couldn't boot android and it said to factory reset, so i did.. it downgraded me to android 11 and now its rooted but i can't update to android 12 now because of it being rooted? is there a way to update to 12 now?

Afraid not because OTA updates will look for rooted or bootloader unlocked devices and will normally give you a white screen error code.Nature of the beast I guess you could say.If you don't plan on doing a custom rom or trying to remove OEM software it's not really worth it honestly.

Think about it this way, a V60 with a broken screen is less than 100 bucks. If you brick it, you can fix it for far less than bricking any other phone in a similar class.

And this is very true! The V60 was way ahead of it's time! It's a shame LG devices were never marketed properly and supported on a local retail level like they should have been. And even if you did brick them, worst thing would be peeling the back off and hitting the testpoint to bring it back to life.

Yes! I was so excited that i got 12 on it, the bootloader shows its android 12 though.. which is really confusing to me.. is there any chance there's an android 12 kdz for this phone floating around that i could try to root and flash? i'm kind of regretting it now, i can't get the fingerprint scanner working following the tutorial there.. i can't update to 12 again it just fails to download, my recovery mode is gone, i can't get back into the bootloader/fastboot mode only EDL mode but it won't recognize anything within windows, adb won't work nor fastboot, can i recover it still if i wish to go back to stock?
The good news is, it gets much better benchmark scores and is much much faster..
on geekbench, 1688 single core, 6203 multicore, it had a higher score but said it was invalid? that one was 4067 single core, 15601 multicore
antutu, it scored 695755 with just using kernel auditor and maxing out the cpu freq and setting gpu freq to 870mhz.
Edit: I just remembered, for where you mentioned the bootloader, i don't have the engineering one installed. i never got that far to even install it. just android debugging > oem unlock > fastboot > fastboot oem unlock

Yes,that wil work until the next update. If it's modified when the next OTA hits,it will give you the update error.Basically, you just set it back stock and the update works. But,glad you have it worked out.
