Custom recovery for a20 - Samsung Galaxy A20 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Ot

Hi,i have samsung A205F/DS
Security patch level:1 december 2020
Baseband version:A205DDS9BTL1
my bootloader is locked and i want to install custom recovery. Can anybody help me?
I know all basic instructions about installing gsi but not about recoveries.
Official orange fox recovery is available for my phone but i dont know how to install it.
I also read forums on how to install twrp but i am confused that which file i have to flash using odin and whether or not it will brick my phone.
Please tell me how to unlock the bootloader and which twrp file i have to flash according to my security patch and baseband version.

Hello,
This video is step by step, the procedure applies to the A20 but obviously using the corresponding software for the A20

Exactly, you just have to enable the developer options and there turn on debugging and OEM and and wait until the oem letters turn gray.

Does it require a custom kernel? I couldn't find mention of it in the link. Also, what the heck is a "boot image?" I know bootloader, recovery, and kernel. Do we now have another thing to consider?
Cool... Can any1 confirm though that rooting wont effect fingerprint sensor working..... I don't really care for Android pay

I'm in the UK so don't have access to Android Pay I'm afraid.
Is there already a way to unroot? Also I hope we don't lose any data while rooting and then unrooting.

If you just reflash the stock system image that would erase any trace of root. You wouldn't lose any data. You'll only be able to flash the root zip/kernel if you've already unlocked your bootloader. If you've not done that you'll have to do it first and the process of unlocking will wipe the device.

Um? Don't think we're quite there yet?
.
Quote from Chainfire.
Acquiring root without modifying the boot images is still under investigation. Please note that the current method will not be officially supported. Future roots may require a clean system: we are at a very early stage of root for 6.0, methods used are subject to change.

I'd download the factory image and update to the latest build. you can edit the "flash-all.bat" so that it doesn't wipe your phone. Change the command
"fastboot -w update" to
"fastboot update"
to preserve your data.
I have re-opened this thread, because the linked thread isn't the same - this isn't a duplicate.

Just boot loops for me , even with Chainfire's boot.img. Is it necessary to do the steps one right after another?
Neat! Glad it is all happening quickly. I think I want to keep encryption, so I will probably wait to root and install TWRP until wiping data to remove encryption is no longer necessary.
Can someone please confirm if the damn fingerprint sensor still works after rooting?

If you use KII-L22(GR5 has variant KII-L21,22,24) , SImply Unlock bootloader, Install TWRP then install SuperSU same as KIW-L21/22/24.
Since I use KII-L22, I can't say TWRP works KII-L21,24.
You can find TWRP thread, and bootloader unlock thread. Read it.

1. Unlock boot loader
2. Flash TWRP Recovery
3. Install SuperSU

I use KII-L21 and still did not get the boot loader unlock code as english site is always busy and chinese site asks to wait for two weeks.
Once I get the unlock code I will try this on my L21. If there is anyone with unlocked KII-L21 please try and confirm the success.
@ssrnsrsr
1. In which web site you managed to obtain the unlock code?
2. Can you give it a try to flash CM 12.1 alpha released for 5X to see if it is compatible with gr5 ?

Flashing a old or new firmware build on your phone, no chances of brick, unless your computer catches fire in the process.
There's TWRP for your phone in the reserved XDA forum? Flash it using Odin and flash SuperSU system-less. CF-Auto Root does it, flash a patched custom recovery and flash root package.

[GUIDE]P10/P10+ root with magisk & SN verified/installing firmware

Hello,
Here is a guide for anyone that wants to keep root with SafetyNet verified on Huawei P10 and P10+, also here you will find how to install/update P10 and P10+ firmware.
REQUIREMENTS
- Unlocked Bootloader(BEFORE&AFTER YOU INSTALL FIRMWARE)
- TWRP recovery for P10(AFTER INSTALLING FIRMWARE) : https://.xda-.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256
- Make a back up of system, products, vendor, boot, etc. in twrp(optional, but recommended)
Now,the steps :
1. Install your stock firmware(or update) : http://www.stechguide.com/?s=huawei+p10 (read the steps in there carefully and see if your build number matches the one on the site!)
STEP 1 IS NOT NEEDED IF YOU NEVER TRIED TO ROOT YOUR P10!
2. After you installed your desired firmware go ahead and unlock bootloader again(this will factory reset your device)and install TWRP recovery.
3. Download Magisk v12,Magisk Manager and uninstaller and flash Magisk v12 with TWRP and then install Magisk Manager.
Magisk v12: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4095052&d=1490916845
Magisk manager for v12: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/topjoh...se/magisk-manager-4-3-3-android-apk-download/
UPDATED :
I found a way to install v13 on p10,p10 plus,not sure if p10 lite also :
Go in magisk manager(magisk v12) and check the "Keep force encryption" and "Keep dm-verity" boxes, and then press install/update (if this doesnt work),download a terminal emulator(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en) and type this :
Code:
su
echo KEEPVERITY=true>>/data/.magisk
echo KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=true>>/data/.magisk

Yeah, forgot to mention that you can debrand too with this. Np
Viper4android won't work because you need to enable core mode on Magisk(that means no mods will be loaded)

Can you explain why this does not work? (is only a P10 problem right?)
I gave up on TWRP/Magisk on my P10 Plus because of this
I never figured out why, but guessed it had to do with the encryption of the data partition
I was going to look at it again once TWRP could do a full backup (including /Data)
I'm currently on stock and it sucks... Did burn my fingers with FRP lock on a phone that couldn't boot to Android... And recovery2 (eRecovery) overwritten by flashing TWRP over it... Not feeling adventurous until TWRP is fully working ?

Have you tried Odin to do the flashing? While not the same device, I have rooted my SM-A526B without TWRP by patching the boot image with Magisk and then copying over the patched boot.img file to a computer, then finally flashed it over using Odin.
I have played with TWRP and Odin in the past with other phones; But I don't feel comfortable experimenting with this phone since it's my only source of work right know. After the process is proved ok by other people with the exact same model as mine, I can't risk experimenting like I have done other times.

This won't work on Samsung "U" variant phones because of their locked bootloader. Once you modify boot.img with Magisk, the phone will automatically detect it as custom firmware and it won't allow it to be flashed because of locked BL.
