bluetooth performance - ASUS ZenFone 7 / 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

As of March 22, 2021, the Bluetooth performance is buggy and quite bad. It regularly fails to playback any audio on first connection on a device, often needing several reconnects to said device to get it working and even occasionally and full system reboot. With certain BT enabled car stereos and portable speakers that I have used with my ZenFone 6 and Xperia 5 Mk1, no issues what so ever. With the ZF7, its a buggy and unfortunate experience.
Waiting on the Android 11 update to see if that brings the necessary fixes.
Will update review when that time comes.

Do you have any updates? Thinking of buying this phone and I use the Sennheiser TW2.

I switched over to a Samsung s20fe and i turn on and update the ZF7 every so often, and try it with my harman kardon onyx because i know it always gives problems with that speaker. I never had any problem with my ZF6 with the HK onyx. It still gives problems as of 29/08/2021.

Bluetooth skipping with screen off

Hello people, I'm glad to join this forum!
I caught my Thor right in time before the latest update and successfully towelrooted. Many thanks to the local geniuses!
Everything works peachy after the root, google play, etc.
The only issue I encountered after rooting is that a couple of apps stopped working - Yandex Disk and Apps&Game (for 4pda forums). Deleting cache didn't help, had to remove both. I haven't tried to reinstall the yet.
And as for the title issue. If I use the bluetooth headset with hdx it works great, until the screen times out or turned off. Then the audio starts skipping randomly, through any app.
Also I tried using a BT mouse with the device, but it's pretty much useless for browsing - it starts to interfere with wifi, pages won't load, or load very slowly.
Just thought to ask if it's just my device or such BT issues are "normal" for HDX.
Thanks!

I have had the same issue too. Both on stock rom and Cpasjuste/ggow's rom on Apollo. So no, this isn't just you.
I have tons of tablets and on each one certain Bluetooth devices will slow or even outright break wifi. It's the most annoying thing. At any rate the only solution I know of is to have 2 routers, one a 2.4 ghz b, g, n for the whole house to use and one 5 ghz router placed near where you primarily use your devices while on bluetooth. Bluetooth devices interfere with wifi on 2.4 ghz and 20/40 mhz frequencies so a 5 ghz router will still run your device and Bluetooth will work well. Yea it blows. One thing that REALLY makes this worse in tablets and laptops is when the manufacturer puts the radios on the same chip, or even real close together. Totally blows up the functionality of the device, and it happens way you more than it should. Cheap manufacturers make mistakes.

Unable to recognize design issues/ Phone not recommended

i'm facing two issues and the support is making me crazy
Bad wifi performances while bluetooth is enable
Bluetooth connection drops during calls.
I've opened two tickets and no solution found since one month.
For the first here is their answer :
With regards to your concern, wifi connection and bluetooth are sharing the same tunnel. Whenever you enable the wifi or bluetooth, one of them will go slow.
and
I really do apologize that our product did not meet your expectation. However, we will be escalating this one to our ROM and might do some improvements in the next updates.
For the second :
If this issue persists, please try to update the Bluetooth supported file in your other bluetooth device via system update or try some other Bluetooth which also supported Hands-Free Profile (HFP).
my other phones (lumia, iphone and samsung) work like a charm
i've only issues with the Oneplus X
The Oneplus X has some design issues and oneplus don't want to recognize it.
that's because the WiFi is only single band of 2.4 GHz, which is the same as Bluetooth operating frequency. that's a design choice (probably to save cost) and a hardware design.
so you'll have to turn off either one to have better WiFi or Bluetooth performance.
cmiiw.
Wonderfull feature nowadays

Bluetooth stability, range, and performance needed!

Our application is mission critical when it comes to Bluetooth SPP performance.
I was quite happy with the Tab 4 7.0 It worked awesome. Tab 3 Lite failed miserably at least the second version did. Early Lite versions were ok.
So since the Tab 4 is now Discontinued, I tried the new Tab A 7.0 and was quite disappointed. the Bluetooth connectivity is unstable and tends to crash so I have to turn bluetooth off/on, and the range is about HALF that of a Tab 4. Heck I can lay the Tab A flat on the table and it wont see anything!
So unfortunately it seems that Samsung isnt going to be a viable option anymore for us.
I need to know what is the best tablet for the money when it comes to maximum bluetooth range and performance? Thanks.

Are there any bluetooth 5.0 headsets yet?

i need a replacement for my jaybird x2 but dont want to get the X3 now that bluetooth 5.0 is available. Or does anyone know of a good headset that will be release soon with bluetooth 5.0?
is it because your x2 doesn't work with the S8 ? because it doesn't work with mine either .

it works fine just the battery is getting old. and itll be nice to have more range with 5.0
I am also wondering if there are any Bluetooth 5.0 headphones anywhere yet. I can't find anything.
Also looking for BT 5.0. Still using the original Bluebuds x ! Battery only lasts me about 4 hours.
This is driving me nuts--there are some pretty legit reasons for wanting BT 5.0 headphones, and I don't really want to buy a replacement pair that DOESN'T have BT 5.0 because that'd be silly now that my phone supports it . . . blech. There has to be someone out there making them, right?
I searched pretty hard online this weekend and found NOTHING, not even articles/teasers of soon to be released 5.0 headsets.
I'm turning up similar amounts of nothing at all. One wonders why Samsung wouldn't be more interested in playing this up as a feature and thus driving stories about it. Maybe they're too focused on the AKG earbuds they're bundling with the phone, and the fact that the s8 has a headphone jack and the iPhone doesn't? That's my best guess . . .
BT 5.0 is pretty new. The S8 is pretty much the first phone to have it, and I believe it will take a few months until we see some better quality BT5.0 headphones on the market.
But no one's announced plans at all??? Finding the same nothing others are finding - and the silence is deafening.
FYI, X2 and X3 work just fine with the S8 and S8+.
I guess I will continue to wait. I actually really like my BT headphones, sound/battery wise, but they tend to cut out when my phone is in my pocket and I turn my head, which is just annoying.
The biggest issue with making devices that are BT 5.0 is that there is no backwards compatibility. So a set of headphones with 5.0 would not work on a device(Phone, tablet, computer, etc) that didn't come Bluetooth 5.0 capable. Sure they could add BT 4.2 to it, but that would require an additional bt radio. Increasing price and size
My Plantronics edge batteries are about shot. I'd love to buy another Plantronics edge like headset but I'll try to wait BT 5.0. Even if I weren't waiting for BT 5.0 I wouldn't buy another on the chance I'd buy a new headset that has been sitting around for 3 years.

Do you have source on this? I havent seen any articles that says it's not backward compatible. If this is true then it could be a while until any manufactures will release new headsets with 5.0 if the only device currently that can use it is the S8.
I'm not sure why you'd think they weren't backwards compatible. I've gone through every previous generation of BT and to the best of my recollection if you use a newer gen with older gen the only issue is you don't get all the benefits of the new gen but they certainly communicated with each other.

Look at the Bluetooth website. Or any other website talking about the technical specs. After I did research I tried looking up any devices that are 5.0, besides just headphones and sadly couldn't find any. 5.0 will be phenomenal, just gonna be a bit before it's implemented widespread sadly

Will Bluetooth 5.0 devices be
backward compatible with
current Bluetooth devices in
the marketplace?
Devices implementing only the
low energy feature of Bluetooth
5 will be backward compatible
with Bluetooth 4.2, 4.1 and 4.0
devices that also implement the
low energy feature.
Devices implementing the Basic
Rate/Enhanced Data Rate (BR/
EDR) Core Configuration will
be backward compatible with
all adopted Bluetooth Core
Specification versions beginning
with 1.1 that also implement
Bluetooth BR/EDR.
From the Bluetooth FAQ.
I can connect three S5 to my Bluetooth speaker that isn't 5 just fine. As well as transfer files fine.

I think you're mixing up what I'm saying. The s5 doesn't have bt5. But receiving devices that have bt5 are not backwards compatible with transmitting devices that aren't bt5. Majority of devices that transmit (phones, tablets, etc) will have bt5 and down installed in them, such as the S8, because doing that is simple. As a receiver has to implement all the things that come with higher BT qualifications and standards. Broadcasting BT is much more simple and convenient than having to receive everything connected to that signal.
I'm just relaying information from the bt5 specs though. I have not tested any of this in real world applications
That was a typo, I meant S8. Swype keeps using my old dictionary.

Bluetooth connection issues - Pure Highway 400

Hi All,
Got a Note 4x running MIUI 8.5.4.0 (NCFMIED) and I'm having a bluetooth issue.
I've got a Pure Highway DAB radio adaptor in my car and whilst I can connect to it via A2DP (and other BT devices) just fine, the Pure Highway has a secondary Bluetooth mode which isn't working. The theory is you download the "Pure Go" app from the app store, launch it, it detects the BT device and pairs from the app rather than by doing it manually. This works fine on a Note 3 I have lying around, does not work at all on the 4X.
I'm in touch with Pure's support folks but they seem stumped.
Q: Are there any bluetooth issues/bugs that I should be aware of that affect discoverability/pairing etc?
Happy to try a later version of a beta ROM but given the hassle I'd rather only do this if there's a fighting chance it might help.
If anyone's aware of Bluetooth bugs in the version of MIUI I have on my 4X I'd be very interested.
