TWRP is an open source, community project. A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom “ROM” like LineageOS or OmniROM.

thank you this worked, should I avoid using standard reboot always? because each time my phone becomes unstable until it sort of crashes (samsung logo, can't unlock) and root is lost.
Hendramamu sorry I should say that first I am super grateful you made this, I am very happy that I can use root and the root was lost after I rebooted but only if I turned on magiskhide (it would right away become unstable and apps would crash until Samsung logo appeared and it would crash more and more often until I cant unlock, then if I restart I would have root lost). but with TWRP -> reboot recovery, everything now works including my mobile banking so THANK YOU very much for making this and redymedan for the instructions

Hey!
Maybe because System-As-Root, but I forgot if system-as-root must reboot to recovery first to gain rooted system.
Thank you very much! ^_^ Glad if this helped

For now all of my projects source, including this one, is dead. Will recover it later.
'K thx

The TWRP is buggy, it gets randomly rebooted so I reverted it back to 3.3
3.3 is not capable of flashing fresh core kernel but TWRP 3.5 works, still useful tho

download link is dead

Any chances for TWRP 3.6? Would be really cool. I have some issues with 3.5.1

As the author has been inactive for quite some time, and it seems his user profile on Github has either been deleted or made private, I am marking this project as Discontinued and closing this thread.

[MM] [6.0.1] [Stock] Root + Magisk + Xposed - SM-J700H (may work on other variants)*
The only reason that I've created this thread is simple, I couldn't find any proper guide to root my J7 device and the ones that are available aren't helpful at all as they are outdated methods and are obsolete.
I spent a lot of time on the internet finding these packages and in the end finally it worked like a charm!
So, here it goes!
Backup your DATA before proceeding
Optional: You should download the stock base flash file, just in case
Download the latest recovery for your device:

https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxyj72015qcomsprint.html
https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxyj72016exynos.html
Download the following package and extract it:
ht t p s: //mega. nz/ #!pYZWWbBT!Nl5LaPxRGs_5bkMML9SwC2lLIpN9-FYxBdpVO5AEuUE
Remove spaces
Click to collapse
You'll find these files once you extracted the package
Install the apks as they are ordered (leave those 2 zip files as they will be flashed through the recovery)
Now enter into the download mode of your phone by pressing the following keys in combination VOL DOWN + HOME KEY + POWER KEY and connect it to the PC/Laptop. Hit up the ODIN and flash the downloaded recovery.
Follow this procedure as shown in the image, in order to flash the recovery. (Download the ODIN software from the google. I'm sorry I can't provide you the link) :silly:
Make sure you also have installed the Samsung USB Drivers as well! Otherwise ODIN won't detect your device.
Click to collapse
Now as soon as ODIN flashes the recovery it'll reboot your device in an instance, so keep that in mind, once it does you only need to hold VOL UP + HOME KEY + POWER KEY and if you done it properly and in synchronized time, you'll see the SAMSUNG LOGO and on the top of it a sentence marked in RED color will be shown and after that it'll boot up the recovery.
Now flash those 2 ZIP files which were left before in order through the recovery:
Reboot your phone once you have done flashing those 2 ZIP files (the first reboot may take some time)
If all done according to the steps, then congratulations you've rooted your phone along with installing XPOSED
Proof:
All credits goes to the DEVS who have created these wonderful tools
Enjoy and don't forget to hit the :good:

And does xposed is suitable for Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700F model?
I encounter the error "Failed to mount '/system' (Device or resource busy"
important question
I have a question
does the smj700 work fine in a phone that is sm j701m? or do I need the twrp for that model?
Latest rom?
SM-G610Y
Hello, does this work with J7 Prime SM-G610Y?

[RECOVERY][ROOT][OFFICIAL] TWRP 3.3.1-X for the Galaxy J727P (J7 Perx)

TWRP has come to the SM-J727P!
In order to install this, follow these instructions:
Enable OEM Unlock in developer settings
Enter download mode (Press and hold home + volDown + Power when powered off)
Using Odin, click the 'AP' tab and select the twrp-3.3.1-1-j7popltespr.img.tar file you've downloaded.
Flash the TWRP image, then hold home + volUp + Power
Congratulations, you are now booted into TWRP!
Remember, on the stock ROM, dm-verity is enabled. What does this mean? If you swipe to allow system modifications, you must flash something that disables dm-verity (such as magisk or a dm-verity disabler.)
Also, on the stock ROM, you MUST format /data before performing any actions, due to the fact that it is force-encrypted by default.
BUGS:
None, as far as I'm aware.

Nope! Format data once to get rid of Samsung's encryption, then once you flash something that disables dm-verity and force encryption you'll be good.

So format data before flashing twrp via odin then flash magisk or format after flashing twrp then flash magisk? Also will flashing supersu also disable dm-verity?
EDIT: I figured it out, thanks for bringing TWRP to this device! Now lets see who can bring lineage(preferably oreo) to this phone.

Backup-Restore function working fine so far, only issue I am seeing is phone is heating up pretty faster than before while backing up in compression mode.
Another minor thing is that earlier when entering recovery mode a purple light used to blink, now its missing.
Just saw this now and I'm really grateful. Big ups to you, man. Great work.
And I was afraid there would be no 3.2.1 for this device;
@Chippa_a makes it possible - intensified thanks! :highfive::good::good:
Thank you!!

Weird. Try using flash tool to fastboot the image if the flashable zip doesn't work for you.
Updated from TWRP, backup/restore works, no problems so far apart from it needs more than a minute till TWRP GUI appears after boot. Thanks for update.
Do you use the stock kernel? I installed the recovery built by oshmoun in the omnirom thread. It uses the aosp kernel. It starts faster, has a better sdcard naming and can flash oem images. Maybe you could try this kernel.
I use stock kernel (Pexorom 4.5) so this may be the reason for the delay.
I mean the kernel used with the recovery, not the rom kernel.

This is what i did. Download img, place file on phone. Download twrp app, pick choose a file, browse to recovery.img, flash. Power off, boot to recovery = win.
Reboot to system, retry installing new update = great success.

Sorry, I didn't get it... kernels everywhere.
However, flashing with fastboot leads to the same delayed start. Strange.

I dont know if there is a connection, but i've tested the recovery with OmniROM 7.1.2, where display is not responding. It can be installed, shows 3.2.1, but display remains dead 4 touch.

Same result, whether fastboot or flashtool, display is dead.
Certainly missed ODM LOIRE v12, v11 is installed.
Not really sure is the latest bootloader.
Does restoring a backup change the bootloader as well?
Edit: Solved: the answer is 'yes'.
3.2.1 does not work @7.1.2 restore because of outdated bootloader.

What I do not understand, maybe bootloader or encryption, but why is 3.2.1 not backwards compatible on Suzu?
Is Omni 7.1.2 kernel (more I have not tried) or not current boot loader the reason?

Is that working? And is it fully functional anyway?
The encryption/decryption options are really confusing here.
If I am decrypted and wants to remain decrypted even after flashing a new rom, which all options should I select? And if options are selected, then there is no need to flash no-verity zip, right?
Wow
RedWolf have Disable Force Encryption option, but i don't think it working... (Mi6 already released RedWolf TWRP, and i checked this option. but mi6 still encryping at first boot... i think decryption user still need flash no_verify_op5_v2 everytime)
anyone can confirm this?
Look very nice.

Yes confirmed, still need to flash no verity.
A really cool feature is the subs overlay wipe.
I can attest to having to flash no_verity. I tried with dmverity enabled and disabled and my ROM didn't boot either time. Flashing no_verity remedies it. Great work though. Nice to see people pushing the options to a new level.

Vendor works pretty fine on SM-A505FN
I found some bugs: there's only 3 cameras available in GSI's (I'm using Nusantra for Android 11) where in stock vendor it finds all cameras
( My Device: sm-a505fn )
Tested with: Open Camera , Camera2 Test
I also can't install latest camary and other versions (also tried 20.05!) of Magisk in Gsi's . It patches the boot images but Magisk says "Installed N/A" I tried it to patch again and there it says " Found Magisk patched boot image" (I extracted the bootimg from the zip)
Do I have to perform reboot-recovery processes every time I restart my device? root constantly unloads automatically?? .. its tiring

I had the same Problem with systemless root: you habe to shut down your phone and then Start the phone
Otherwise it will remove the root and restore the Boot image
You should better use something like phh's superuser (sadly only works with phh gsi's ) i dont know why this is so but this works
( I dont know if non system-less root would solve the Problem )
