Question Will Xperia 1iii run on AT&T network - Sony Xperia 1 III

Is this device compatible with AT&T network? Or is it just not compatible with the 5G network?

These are the bands the phone has. So it should work just fine on att and tmobile (plus all the sub carriers from these two)

Read this, which is consistent with what I had previously read. No mention of ATT 5G for US version. Hoping @cyanpac is correct:

It is more compatible with TMobile and Verizon because it has the bands they use. It barely has 5g bands and barley any 4g bands for att. It'll work but you'll have signal issues most likely. TMobile is pretty cheap and the service they have now is miles better than what it was even 3 years ago.

Well, I need/want a phone with headphone jack and SD slot, which are hard to come by, so I guess I'm going to have to switch to T-Mobile.

I spoke with a guy at B&H Photo, who are taking pre-orders. We had a long conversation about the bands. His view is ATT will be about the same as T-Mobile for 5G coverage based on what he could see of T-Mobile's 5G bands. I pre-ordered and will give it a try on ATT. I can always move to T-Mobile if I'm not happy with how it runs on ATT>

Does anyone really make their phone decisions based on 5G bands? That technology is honestly still a few years off being actually useful unless you're parked under a 5G tower

How is being parked under a 5g tower magically going create apps or tech that takes advantage of 5g?

I thought the Xperia could connect to the 5G bands that actually will increase connection speed drastically: n41, n71, n77, and n78. I do not value the mmwave 5G because they drastically drain battery.

I was hoping for better 5G coverage than my 1 MK II. If not I will keep it another year

B&H Photo, the best.
Only issue with 5G coverage is it's coverage even when there are plenty of 5G towers. It's more directional than 4G.
Perhaps the rep is correct though, their staff tends to be very knowledgeable. AT&T is a monster anyway

Hate to break it to you but we will only be able to get 4G LTE with HD Voice. This is extremely agrevating as I purchased the Xperia Pro to take advantage of the 'extraorinary' 5G speeds but turns out the phone only gets 4G LTE + HD Voice. IMEI gets picked up by AT&T as the Xperia Pro and even with a APN changed it refuses to connect.

Since the phone is unlocked, couldn't you get it on AT&T and if the 5g coverage didn't work well, just switch over to TMobile?
When ordering you have to pick carrier, my guess is that they include a SIM for that carrier? but you could just swap to another carrier SIM if you wanted later?

5G speeds tend to not be so extraordinary. Up to a 20% increase over 4G LTE if you're within range which is also iffy. That's what I've been seeing reported.
I wouldn't sweat it...

Just spent a few hours w/ T-Mobile Expert Tech and Xperia USA Tech after trying everything to access T-M's 5G n41 band with my 1 III (XQ-BC72). Short answer: it's not happening and neither rep knew why so they're submitting a ticket and will get back to me.
For what it's worth - although the "Expert" reps would neither deny nor confirm, when I called Xperia Support USA (855-806-8464), the tech rep there said she found a Sony bulletin which said only Verizon 5G is working currently and T-Mo and AT&T will be fixed in a software update - no ETA.

No Volte and no wifi calling on Sony too (its terrrrrrrible)

The Xperia 1 III US model doesn't support 5G very well. It's unreliable even on T-Mobile because stand alone mode is disabled in the phone's configuration. It combines a short-range LTE band with long-range NR 71. Being that SA is disabled, it gains nothing but battery drain from that mix.

Alpha 850M on Metro PCS/Tmobile LTE H+ 3G YES!

I am not a Developer but am a Power User of Android for work and play using for Proposals,
Invoices, and business and casual browsing.

Let me confirm that this Model Alpha 850M an octacore made for North, South, Central America and the Caribbean Factory Unlocked LTE phone works great on the Metro/Tmobile
Network on LTE and drops to 3G on Voice Calls and a little H+ when signal weak in large buildings.
Excellent voice quality, strong radio transceiver which locks well to even low signal in buildings or near transmitting towers .
Only my second Android and my first Samsung-I have not found the horrible bloatware I have read about but do have the phone customized with many features toggled off etc.
I come from an Audio background and Phones are the only Devices which do not often sound better ( earpiece, microphones, speakerphones) on a $600 Device versus a $150 DeviceTHIS Alpha surprised me- it sounds much fuller and a little louder than 3 or 4 AT&T
Alpha 801 quad cores I auditioned before.
Either a bigger speaker, better cone material, or more power or all three- the AT&T850A is
tinny and thin sounding compared to this 850M- not sure if they are all like this but an excellent speakerphone !
So often even with Experts you can NOT get a DEFINITIVE ANSWER on whether a specific Model performs FULLY on a certain Carrier as well as branded Devices this one does on TMobile also has the 700band which TMo will be using more and more for LTE which penetrates buildings better.

To use a highly technical Term even for Developers this little Phone "Kicks Ass".
As I have said before If this phone was about 8.5 millimeters thick with a 3000Mah Battery

This phone has less lag than S5 and excellent as is but SHOULD have been great.
Samsung tried to COPY the Iphone rather than surpass it, underestimating the Tech Savvy of
Android Users who purchase $600 plus phones.
One BIG PROBLEM is I cannot be on Internet and a Call Simultaneously on this phone.
It DROPS TO 3 G on Calls which temporarily kills Data-not sure if this is Alpha or Network BUT I always have Internet on calls with Metro PCS.
So this Alpha may not have this feature ?
If you are on a compatible GSM network (like T-Mobile you listed), it should maintain network connection even on 3G mode unless the phone drops to 2G mode. Until VoLTE is enabled (Alpha does support it but not yet enabled), all LTE phones on AT&T or T-Mobile will have to drop to HSPA mode (H+ or 3G or 2G depending on the availability) for voice calls. But as long as you are not on 2G (E or G), you should still have simultaneous voice and network connection.
However, I did encounter similar problems on my AT&T version but a reboot of the phone solved my problem.

Something interesting here: my G850A indicates "4G" during voice calls at the top of the screen, but bringing up the status indicates that it is indeed fluctuating between HSPA+ and UMTS. AT&T being misleading? The G850M fluctuates between saying 3G and H+. (And also, when the G850M is on LTE, the indicator only says "4G," but status check shows it's LTE.)
The other strange thing is that with both phones, I have them set up to make a sound when I press keys. During voice calls, the keys make no sounds. Go figure.

I'm not finding that the Alpha supports VoLTE. I have VoLTE on my T-Mobile Galaxy Avant in my area, but not on the Alpha.

AT&T labels HSPA/HSPA+ as 4G and LTE as 4G LTE. T-Mobile does the similar thing. In other places, HSPA+ is called 3G and LTE is called 4G. Semantics. HSPA+ is based on UMTS.

VoLTE has to be enabled in the phone's firmware. When the time comes, AT&T will release a firmware update to enable it as it did with short list of other phones that supports VoLTE.
I see this is on Ebay right now for a good price, I assume this will work 100% on cricket wireless with LTE? Are there various model #s? On Ebay it just unlocked. I wanted to get this to use for work.

I am not a dev but as I recall Metro PCS was
one of the first to have VoLTE and also simultaneous Voice and Data back on 2011 or 2012 so I was used to talking on calls and always seeing 4G LTE on the phone. LG Motion 4G.
So this Alpha is my first Samsung- and my first factory unlocked phone still on Metro Tmo.
Now I see the LTE drop to 3G when I make a call but thanks to better APN Settings I almost always have voice and Internet simultaneously because the phone jumps to H or H+ and gives fast Internet on a call on H+.
I even had Youtube and a Speakerphone call a few times as silly experiment.
I also with inferior APN setting got "unable
to access Internet while on a call message"
previously so APN Settings make a big difference sometimes.
Very few problems, fast phone, good audio and sharp Camera...
Hope that Samsung has a Note 5 with removable battery and does a Compact Note kind of like super Alpha..
Not sure if Lollipop will give VoLTE to a Factory Unlocked Phone but if any Devs can achieve it for me ...good Donation .

There is a G850M and a G850F which both are international unlocked phones but cover different LTE bands. I would recommend that you check your carriers available bands (this is also depended on area), then cross check this with http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_alpha-6573.php
There are a few variants specifically for the asian market, but unless you live there you will have a difficult time in the US to get them.
When your G850M boots up, does it display any carrier branding?

All sources that i could find on net say that SM-G850M doesn't support the band 4 on WCDMA/UMTS. They may be wrong. Since you own the device you would be the best source whether band 4 is unlocked on the device or not. I mention band 4 because that is the band t-mobile uses in most markets on 3G (fake 4G) and LTE. Go into settings\more networks\mobile networks and change the preferred network connection into 3G (or it may say 4G on your phone, just stay away from LTE), verify that it is now operating on 3G (fake 4G), then go to dialer and dial *#197328640#, choose "BASIC INFORMATION' and report what you see. I own the ATT version and when i force it (using *#*#INFO#*#*) into fake 4G it reports "RRC:IDLE, BAND:5" which is WCDMA BAND 850, that is what ATT uses here (ATT uses BAND 2 here also which is WCDMA 1900) where i live for 3G (fake 4G). When i switch back to LTE and go into this hidden menu, it reports that it is connected on "LTE RRC:IDLE BAND: 17", which is what ATT uses in my area. So you may be in market that t-mobiles uses PCS band for 3G (BAND 2) and that would explain why you do not drop on EDGE. It would be a lot clearer when you report properly on which BAND you are connected. What is concerning is that you say you loose data when making calls, which makes me think that you indeed drop to EDGE while on calls, which is painfully slow and makes you think you lost data. As i said, it would be easier to understand what is going on when you provide the whole picture ...

If your phone drops to EDGE, you won't be able to do voice and data simultaneously. You need to be on 3G (UMTS minimum) to have simultaneous voice and data.
Since Alpha only has AT&T version released in US, I'd suspect you can't buy any model of Alpha that fully supports all T-Mobile's bands because of the unique mix of bands used by T-Mobile.
The models sold on ebay varies a lot but the one I purchased says Factory unlocked by also states AT&T compatible. For all intents and purposes, the one I received is actually AT&T version, indeed factory unlocked, running AT&T branded firmware. That fits me just fine because I'm on AT&T. But if you are not on AT&T, YMMV. Cricket wireless, IIRC, is now a subsidiary of AT&T.

OK, I did this: I changed the settings on my G850M to force 3G. The code(s) you said to put in didn't work for me, so I used *#0011# instead. It said two different things, depending on when I did the test. Once it said 1900 Band 2, and once it said 1700 Band 4. Then, I put it back to LTE and it said Band 4. I've attached screenshots of all three. This is T-Mobile in Portland, OR.
Also, I found one reasonably reliable Internet source that indicated the G850M does support 3G Band 4. Here's the link:

I was also hesitant to buy the G850M for the same Band 4 reason, until I found the specs on the Samsung Peru Website. The screenshot below shows that the M indeed does have 3G Band 4.

Glad to help. I was a still a little concerned myself until I ran this test.
I bought it on eBay from The Pwrsellers
They currently have black, white, and gold for $450. Mine was a Brand New Open Box black model, so it was another $50 less than that. So far, so good! There is no cell company boot-up screen, and the bloatware is at a refreshing minimum.
AT&T now sells brand new for $319.99 retail.
I was at att last weekend and they wanted like $600 to buy it the 850a.
I got the 850m from target online via Amazon. It does work on t mobile.

Yeah, I almost bought one from Target, too, but this less expensive one came up just at the right time. FWIW, the one I bought from The Pwrsellers came drop-shipped from Amazon as well, so that makes me think most (if not all) the companies selling the G850M in the US right now are drop-shipping through Amazon.

I bought from target for the return policy, especially since I was not sure if it was going to work on tmobile .
I just bought another one to see if the reception is any better and I will return the one with the worse reception.

I have found APN Settings for Metro/Tmo important for best performance on my Factory Unlocked 850M.
MetroPCS frequently uses Tmo APNs even on Metro PCS Phones.
With Factory Unlocked Phones I assume trial and error may be best for an advanced Phone like Alpha.
I tried the Settings used for Note 4 on Tmobile which worked but not as well as what I use now but open for suggestions lol.
Here are current best I have found which are fast Data and allow
Internet while on calls about 90% of the time.
I always have good voice and audio on calls.

I have found that IPv4/IPv6 seems to perform a bit better than IPv4 .
But I have NO IDEA what these do in Tmobile Protocol.
Also I leave BEARER unspecified but have tried LTE also.
The only problem I sometimes have is no data on 3G and Phone does not bounce back to LTE AFTER a call- often turning data off and on with Quick Toggle restores LTE quickly.
Oddly this is an intermittent problem.
Often I have quick Internet while on a call but sometimes no Internet on a Call.
Here are the screenshots from my Alpha 850M which has no Carrier Branding when I forced 3G also some H showed and I got
1900 band in 3G but have not seen 1700 3G but in LTE in second screen.
I am in Miami area which is reframed so Metro/Tmo uses 1900 more here for 3G - Corvussimo - how did you get 1700 to show on 3G - is yours a Factory Unlocked unbranded Alpha ?

C5 Ultra NA 3G and 4G/LTE?

Hey guys.
I just made this account because I have a major phone crisis. I was thinking of buying a C5 Ultra to replace my broken phone.
But I'm not sure if the 3G and 4G LTE will work with it? I'm not particularly tech saavy. I asked five different representatives from my phone company and they said yes. I've also talked to two Sony reps and they weren't very helpful.
But I'm still unsure. My phone carrier is Claro (Puerto Rico). This is the info they've provided me with:
3G Operable: 850MHZ, 1900MHZ
4G Operable: 850MHZ-1900MHZ, B4 AWS (1700-2100), B17 (700MHZ), B12 (700MHZ)
Which left me still slightly confused. My band knowledge is basically squat. And I've been pulling my hair trying to make heads or tails of the different statements the reps have told me. They all say it'll work and yet I don't want to spend money on the equipment only to find out it doesn't work.
Anyways if anyone could help me out with this I'd be super grateful.
According to this Wikipedia list (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks) your operator seems to be using LTE Band 17.
And according to Xperia C5 Ultra specification white paper from Sony website (http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/e5553/whitepaper_EN_e5553_e5506_xperia_c5_ultra.pdf) the only model that supports LTE Band 17 is the E5506 (Single SIM, none of the Dual SIM variants support the LTE Band 17).
When I bought mine the model number was printed on a sticker on the bottom of the box.
Also, I would suggest you double check with your operator whether they’re actually using LTE Band 17.

They use Band 4, 12 and 17. I've actually asked them extensively about it. My only option would be the E5506, but I've no idea where to buy that -specific- model. I've been searching for almost a month. Sending e-mails and posting on forums, ect. No dice.
Looking at the Wikipedia list it seems that Band 4, 12, and 17 are mostly used in the countries around Northern America.
Based on past releases, Sony has always prioritize the Asian and Europe market first. Northern America model is almost always released last. I guess you'll have to wait.
Of course this is just a guess, I could be wrong.

Just wanted to update this thread with new info. I'm now in possession of a C5 ultra E5506. I saw it come up on B&H photo and video and immediately bought it. It seems to work with 4G and 3G just fine.
So yes, its out there now. It just took a while.

I recently got an Unlocked LG V30+ (H930DS) from India. I wish I had done some research on the supported bands before buying this one.
It doesn't work with T-Mobile here in US. So just wanted to check if anyone knows if this is a hardware limitation, or can be solved by flashing T-Mobile version of LG V30+ ROM when it's available?

If not T-Mobile, will I be able to use LTE from any of the other big providers?

This is actually common across all V30/V30+ models. The only real difference between one model number to another is the slight variation in the actual software in the device. You should be able to enable and use those bands without issue. The poor user reviews are solely by people who, in a lot of cases, that don't research their device before buying it. Whether or not UMTS is enabled though, just like CDMA, is just a guess until confirmed by someone who owns the device and tries to use it.

You won't be able to do this for now, if ever: the dual-SIM variants aren't (and haven't been in the past) on the bootloader unlock list.
Not much testing has been done so far on enabling "unsupported" bands; the phone is still expensive (less so via carrier subsidies), so people are tending to get the variant that they know will work on the network they want instead of chancing it. I've seen talk of the phone getting "stuck" on a band selected in the test menu, though, so try at your own risk.
For official band support, probably no better source than the FCC test report.

I also have the HK LG v30+ and i do get 3g service; quite fustrating that i didn't do much research since when i got my HK S7 it worked perfectly fine with tmobile lte

Does this mean H930DS will work in Canada as well? since it shows all the correct band. Saw a few having problems to work with t-mobile.

If the bands are there and enabled, then yes. The only thing that limits which bands can be used is the software and firmware in the device. The issues with T-Mobile might be related to WCDMA/UMTS being locked out in that model. VoLTE though should be possible on bands 2, 4, and 12 though and T-Mobile's WiFi Calling should also work. Canada is similar but also depends on the carrier. Freedom would have the WCDMA/UMTS issues that T-Mobile users are probably having issues with. Rogers/Fido/Chatr however would more than likely be the best fit. Bell/Virgin and Telus/Koodo should be fine as well, but the Rogers network still has GSM service.

You get 3G, but no 4G/LTE?
Are you in an urban or rural area?
Did you access the hidden menu and clicked on one of T-Mobile's bands (B4 or B12) for testing purposes?

What SIM slot are you using for your SIM? Have you tried the SIM in the other SIM slot to see if that makes any difference?
Edit: One other thing to consider is you need the correct APN settings to access LTE. Has anyone even bothered to check the APN settings and even tried manually enterting them for the US and or Canadian providers they are trying to use?

It works well. I haven't really had any time to compare it to the H933 because it is back in the box ready to be exchanged. In and around Scarborough-Guildwood, signal strength is in and around 91db.
From the box of a H930DS, it doesn't look like B2/4/12 are included, most likely it won't work with T-Mobile/AT&T LTE.

The box doesn't list all of the bands supported. Check the engineering menu to see what it actually supports.

APN settings are important! When lookin at a lot of reviews on Amazon in regard to any product. Most people are stupid! I don't own a 930DS but I have seen screenshots of the LTE Band menu. It supports more bands than are listed on the box that are enabled and working. Asian models will not come with US APN settings and even if they do, I would delete them and enter them manually. Has anyone actually tried that? I have no idea but most consumers just stick their SIM in things and expect them to work, regardless of where it came from.

I would think they should already have APN settings configured, otherwise, without it, they wouldn't be able to get 3G/any service at all?
But yeah, it would be nice if someone that has a H930DS can confirm. I am trying to buy one but would really appreciate if someone can confirm before doing so. Don't want to get one and have no LTE signals.

Understandable. I haven't been able to find any locally in Canada or in western Virginia. Then again, western Virginia is fairly rural and I don't want to purchase one online. The screens are too much of an issue on these devices to risk buying one from Ebay, Swappa, Kijiji, and other online sites.
I know Amazon.com has them but I am up in Canada right now and don't want to pay import fees and taxes to bring it to Canada. Amazon may also have a great return policy but I would hate to have to send it back because of screen banding and color uniformity issues. In Toronto, band 2 and 4 are very common and would be easily enough to test with my T-Mobile USA SIM while roaming. Any of the stores I have been in at Pacific Mall don't carry them.

Question What is it like using this phone in Canada?

I am looking to buy this phone, but am very cautious because it isn't officially available or supported in Canada. So I am wondering, from those here who have done purchased and use this phone as their main one, what is the Xperiance (heh) like? What works? What doesn't work? Would you recommend it?
Also, what version are you using? I've found a few websites selling the US variant (XQ-BC62), but most of the sellers have the Chinese(?) model (XQ-BC72).
I've read this thread, so I understand that I cannot just simply purchase a non-US model and flash it with a US rom without having LTE issues and no apparent benefit. Was really hoping that was a feasible option to maybe get some carrier features to work. But honestly, I don't care for 5G (besides, Freedom Mobile doesn't even offer 5G), I don't think I have ever used wifi calling, and I doubt phone calls with VoLTE are vastly superior to voice calls without it, so losing out on those features isn't the biggest issue for me. I just want a phone that works, though, and not something I will constantly need to fight with to keep working.
So yeah, if anybody has anything to share, I would greatly appreciate it!

The Xperia is always suffering from spotty signal problems while my older T-Mo LG Velvet 5G is solid everywhere, despite the two having the same public spec sheet. The Xperia likes LTE 66 + NR 71, which makes absolutely no sense. LTE 66 is fast but a bit unreliable while NR 71 is ultra-reliable but slow. The Xperia can't operate without LTE 66 so NR 71 is just there to drain the battery and turn on the "5G" indicator. It can't seem to use NR 41 at all. The LG typically uses the best three of NR 2, 4, 41, and 71.
Think about the future:
HSPA is as good as dead. What little of it remains is badly overloaded. No VoLTE/VoNR will soon mean no phone calls.
Newer bands are 5G only
I don't know if it's the latency improvements or the way 5G/LTE bandwidth sharing works, but a saturated cell tower performs a lot better on 5G than LTE.
I'm hoping Sony fixes the BC62 soon or this will be a $$$$ mistake. A bad cell radio is no fun.

Well that's extremely frustrating to read...
The one phone that checks all the damn boxes regarding hardware, and of course it doesn't actually work well as a phone. You had one job, Sony!
At least that is something that can be fixed, right? But yeah, I'm not really down to spend $1500 CAD on a phone that might work...
I am in Canada and I have XQ-BC72. I am on Fido and I also tried Rogers wireless sim card. NO VOLTE SUPPORTED. Not only volte, no carrier feature are supported (volte, vowifi, voicemail, visual voicemail). However, basic LTE function works fine. The network speed is very good, I think the speed is the standard speed.
A funny thing is I didn't have 4g+ support when I first came to Canada. The network speed is about 40mbps. But I got 4g+ support after I inserted a Rogers sim. I mean insert a Rogers sim and take it out and then insert my Fido card. The 4g+ sign disappeared in a few weeks but the network speed seems remaining the same, which is more than 100mbps now.
Also if you're interested, it doesn't support 5g on Rogers. It might because it's on TW rom, but I don't want to flash my phone and try again since flashing ROMs in other areas makes LTE unusable.
Flashing ROMs doesn't help on carrier support. I am trying to get the carrier support by unlocking my phone this winter. There's a guide on XDA, you can check.

I think it is okay if you don't care about 5g. I'm here using the phone for three months without any problem. Actually, I don't use voice calls that much and I don't have any scenario that I need network while calling. The 3g call quality is fine and I think even better than WhatsApp. It's a good phone for daily use though.

The Xperia can't operate without LTE 66 so NR 71 is just there to drain the battery and turn on the "5G" indicator. It can't seem to use NR 41 at all. The LG typically uses the best three of NR 2, 4, 41, and 71.
Think about the future:
HSPA is as good as dead. What little of it remains is badly overloaded. No VoLTE/VoNR will soon mean no phone calls.
Newer bands are 5G only
I don't know if it's the latency improvements or the way 5G/LTE bandwidth sharing works, but a saturated cell tower performs a lot better on 5G than LTE.
I'm hoping Sony fixes the BC62 soon or this will be a $$$$ mistake. A bad cell radio is no fun.

How did you get the MBN files? As far as I was aware, Sony doesn't provide them and you need one specific to the phone/chipset, no?

Sony does, but they software locked these files. The MBN files are already in your phone.

Never use non-Rogers or non-fido phone with Rogers/fido. Even though we have the mbn files. I was with fido and I borrowed a Rogers sim for testing. Sadly the results was I can't have anything work on fido and only 5G worked on Rogers but slower than LTE. Non of them has VoLTE or VoWoFi working. Rogers the company is famous for blocking phones from registering IMS which is the key of VoLTE and VoWiFi. So I switched to Virgin plus.

I have an XQ-BC72 (intl. ver.). I can guarantee that VoLTE and VoWiFi work on Virgin and Kodoo; since they are the sub-companies, I assume that will work on Bell (Virgin’s parent) and Telus (Kodoo’s parent). Also I can guarantee that 5G is working on Rogers; I guess 5G would work on other twos and speed would be much better if it’s a US version phone since US and Canada has very similar bands. It is proven that VoLTE and VoWiFi WOULD NOT work on any Rogers and Rogers’ sub-companies. I will keep trying these features on other carriers.
ViLTE is not tested because I am still finding out how to trigger the feature, but unfortunately I only have another iPhone with me.
Please aware that all these things would work AFTER you unlock and root your phone. Canadian is not officially supported by SONY which is very weird.

Check the AT&T whitelist for your model, if it's listed, it's supported.
First mistake is ever using ATT, go with T-mobile, Verizon, or a reseller like Mint or straight talk.

AT&T is working fine, seamlessly for my 2 N10+'s; N975U, N975U1. Didn't have to do anything after the switch over. Your device wasn't configured for or running on 4G VoLTE and that's the issue.

Sending you a new SIM would be pointless 'cause your phone is 3G only and AT&T no longer has a 3G network.
It doesn't work well with T-Mobile either. It's using standalone 5G channel combos even though Sony disabled standalone 5G for all US bands. The end result is lots of signal drops because it has long-range NR 71 but lost the medium range LTE band 2 or 66 it needs. It takes it a few minutes to switch to LTE 71 or LTE 12.
I am on VZW and 5G works great. Only once have I seen it change to LTE and that was because of weather. It sound like the ATT person you talked to was assuming you were on a 3G phone, and there not going to give a sim card for a 3G phone. The system is going away.

I wonder if you have a defective phone...or you live in an area where the signal towers are too far away???
I realize that this phone "needs" to have NSA or NSA+SA mode turned on to receive 5G on T-Mobile. However, I have none of the signal issues or drops that you are having. Something is wrong with your device specifically.

Thanks for the link to the att website that listed the Sony phones as not being affected by the 3G closure. I went back in and they acknowledged that the phone was OK but could not get the new Sim card to work on their tablet . I got them to call AT&T tech support and though he had trouble initially got it activated. The new Sim seems faster and so far has not stopped working. The old Sim card if I remember was from my previous phone a Experia 1 Mk II. My MK III is from Best Buy (unlocked} and not a international model.

I don't have a 5G model either. I deliberately got the 4G for better battery life... 4G is fast enough today.

Sorry. I replied to the wrong post. If your phone isn't in the list of phones you'll find in post #2, then they won't send a new SIM. And I don't know what model "1 III" refers to, so I can't check it.
