What OS are you running? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Real Life Review

I'm still running Pie.
It remains a fast, very stable platform that fulfills its mission well. No forced factory resets ever due to malware speaks for itself.
How's your OS treating you?

Have two N10+'s now. The first one is still running on Android 9, the new one on Android 10.
A N975U (Pie) and a N975U1.
No plans to change the firmware on either one as they are running well... fulfilling their mission.
The load on the Pie variant will be 2 yo this June, still running well.

Im purchasing a refurb,... Plan on running Lineage Unoff 20,..

I know marshmallow just arrived, but I have a question about N.

Hey guys. I'm coming from a Nexus 6p. I wanted a small phone and this looks like it. I know the z5c won't be getting n for a while officially, but based on your guys experience, will there be a decent stock ROM available around the time of Android N's release? Was this the case when Google released marshmallow?
Thanks guys.
HTC is usually one of the first to announce support of the latest Android release once a new one is formally available. They strive for 90 days historically, but delays come in for carrier based versions of their phones.
Sony seems to typically fall into a 4-6 month window after major Android versions are released, so early spring 2017 is when I'd guess N will show up on our Z5C's.

When is the End of Support?

Hi, I am looking for a 6.5 phone, which will have at least 2 years support of the vendor. It will be used by my wife, so alternative ROM is nogo.
What is the EOS for Honor 8X?
Thank you
Probably 2 years for software and 1 year for hardware warranty same as other honor phones. Launched with Oreo and beta Pie is already in progress so dont see any issue in getting the next android version.
Thanks, ok it seems I will have to buy and setup phone for her every two years. I am already 40, so new versions do not impress me at all. Pie is huge step back in UI for me (at least on MiA1, MiA2).

That's only major software update but security updates could extend upto 3 years. And even if ROS reaches, phone still works fine (using 5X since 3 years now)
Just curious, how frequent are the security updates? Thinking of switching to huawei phone but from what i googled, it seems Huawei's security or OS updates are slow. Is it still the same or has they improved? This is what's currently holding me back from jumping onboard. Any feedbacks on the update rate is much appreciated.

Worth to upgrade android?

Hello guys! I'm for the moment on Android 11 pixel experience and I was thinking to go to android 10 crdrood (magisk works there perfectly) is better to go to android 12+? I gain any performance? Or just new android and new security? Plus magisk would work there?
Android 9 and above are relatively secure unless you do something stupid.
CPU cycle sucking scoped storage is fully active in 12 and probably 11. I go with 10... this stock N10+ is still running well on Pie.
A12 is a solid improvement over A11 at least in terms of RAM usage. Battery backup is a little lower (around 1-1.5%/h worth of active drain ) but since I switched to a new official battery the hit isn't noticeable. Even the most notorious financial/banking apps are working well in conjunction with Magisk 25.1 and Shamiko module at least in crDroid 8.6. I would strongly recommend to format data and reinstall apps afresh instead of restoring then via Swift Backup etc.
I fortunately can stay on Android 9 and 10; 9 is still the best, secure enough but still very functional and usable.
Google's done gone Brandon crazy and made a mess of the OS with scoped storage.
Apple is laughing... and probably giving Google a bribe to screw it up.

Nothing better in sight...
Android 13 really sucks

Yeah kiddies you be boned... malware is easier to deal than this new, "improved", more secure locked down IOS copycat crap
Gookill screw it up all up, predictably.
"Screw will it until you break it..." has always been Google's MO
Best recommendation: stay at the version you're on. Upgrade at your own peril. Android 9 was the zenith for the Android OS, it's been downhill since. You can pile all the new features icing you want on a turd, but it's still a turd.
Maybe Android 14 or 15 will get it or maybe Google is DOA... they just don't know it yet.
What you want is a fast, stable OS that's offers flexibility, functionality, usability and fulfills -your- mission, not Gookills. If you have that now, be happy and leave it be...

crDroid A12L is working perfectly fine and it's improvement. Latest Magisk also work. (But I personally prefer to stay unrooted)
I recommend you to upgrade.
I am still running android 10.

Not buggy at all for me.
The main version might be just around the corner. So might as well wait another week or two for that. Else you'll have to do it all over again.
Android 13 stable release to AOSP has a default security patch level of 2022-09-01, so it likely won't get released until September.
I am planning to wait because a few apps that I use will need to catch up to Android 13.
It's in beta, and like all betas, it's not quite ready for public release. If you want to try the new Android, go for it, but don't expect it to be stable or functional enough for a daily driver, much less perfect.
It seems as stable as my Samsung S20 was.
I didn't run my P6 with Android 12, I went straight from a Galaxy S20 (with Android 12) to the P6 with Beta 13.
The current beta 13 is very stable, but I do hit a snag every now and then. I use it as my daily driver.... and like I said, it's as stable as my S20 was....And I prefer 13 over 12.
It's not buggy at all for me. Works great!
+1 Works great.
Will magisk work with the released Android 13 version

Yes
It's stable and better than 12.
Get it in, jump.
I am on the latest Beta and see very few if any bugs. It solved most of my complaints about the P6 on 12. Fingerprint reader is improved (I'd give it a B now). The only thing that has not improved (so I suspect it is hardware) is my cellular reception. I think it is just the older modem they used. I get less reception in many areas compared to my work iPhone sitting right next tot he P6. Sometimes there is no data coming down on the P6 and iPhone works fine.

What is the best ROM in 2023 for V30+?

Hi,
I know it is very subjective, but given that the phone has been around for 5-6 years, I think there are already some ROMs are obsolete, unusable, whereas there might be others which already proved their worth so to speak.
I had almost all V models (except V60) and came back recently to HK version of V30+dualSIM. I think it best suits my needs.
I noticed that only Android 7,8 and 9 are officially available, but I don't mind trying LOS ROM with younger Android (10,11 or 12).
What i absolutely want is to have autocall recording, so I need boot. Done that following the guide - thank you @
ChazzMatt et other who made this happen and also took time to explain to others how to do this.
Therefore I am now with pre July 2018 Oreo. TRWP 3.2.7? and Magisk 18.
Now, in order to keep root (the autocalrecord option) what is the latest Android one can use please?
Also, in Android 8 which I have now I can use external monitor by connecting a usb-c docking station. I read somewhere that either from Android 10 (or after 10) Google KILLED THAT FEATURE.
I need this also to work, so if you know that from Android 10 I will will not have the external monitor feature, I will stop at latest 9...
I know that all info is somewhere here, but the most breakthrough with this phone on this forum was during 2018-19, and 4-5 years on this inof might be obsolete, hence my thread today.
Many USA carriers are forcing VOLTE (and VOWIFI of course) when making calls. Only stock ROMs have this capability, so if you need VOLTE, then you have to stick to stock-based ROMs...
From what I heard, Verizon's Pie implementation was not great initially, so I wouldn't recommend that if you're on VZ towers, which leaves you on Oreo. I have heard that US998 Pie is better, so you could consider that if you're not on VZ.
If you're outside the US, then things could be different, of course.

I think using stock ROM is still the best option
