Galaxy Note 20 screen not responding to touch - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Questions & Answers

My Note 20 screen has suddenly stopped responding to touch. It wont recognize any input from my fingers BUT the S Pen works perfectly. Its not been dropped, cracked, gotten wet or exposed to direct sunlight or anything. I've removed the screen protector, installed the latest updates on everything and even done a factory reset. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks in advance

Seems like you somehow tripped your Touchscreen Firmware, check this video to see how it's repaired. Few days back, someone with a midrange Galaxy A-series phone did trip his Touchscreen Firmware, too.

I tried doing this but it just says "Failed to update"

Try flash with odin the last update u installed.mine have a same problem.what u need to do is try to reflash the stock rom

I mean samsung firmware from sammobile

[Q] Screen Problems following ICS Update

Hey guys, so I just updated my att galaxy s2 via kies to android ICS however after that I've ran into some problems.
After updating however I encountered a period where the screen went black and the phone kinda just died on me. After restarting I began to encounter some problems. For some reason, whenever the phone goes to sleep and and then wakes up, my screen gets flipped upside down and the screen gets really bright. Despite that, I still have to press the screen like usual. Which means that if the call button is at the top after flipping, I still have to press the bottom of my screen. Also the screen isn't perfectly flipped and there is space above the top bar.
However, the phone does work fine on bootup, and only fails after it sleeps. Also, very recently my phone just went through a screen repair after the screen cracked under the glass, but otherwise that I have no clue what's going on.
Is this just a poor repair and a hardware problem or is their another problem here?
Also I've tried a factory reset and that didn't help.
Thanks for any help you can give.

considering this board is all about CUSTOMIZING devices... I dunno about that. Maybe try the AT&T site?
Maybe one of our divas will be kind enough to help anyway.
Yes, I mean divas, also referred to around here as devs. I <3 u all!

Yeah I kinda got that gist =P
but, after searching through the web, there weren't really a lot of sites that I came across detailing about my problem, but this was one of the sites that came up a lot so I was just hoping if anybody, just anybody could help me out with this.

There are alot of things that could go wrong when flashing ROMs.
All of the custom ROMs here have built in safeguards which allow users to recover from issues involved with flashing. The same cannot be said about stock builds.
Unfortunately, your options are limited if you're going to stay stock. You can either try a factory reset and re-installing the update via KIES or you can call AT&T. That's pretty much it.
Personally, i'd Mobile Odin a rooted package with CWM and start flashing some of the wonderful work the developers have graciously allowed us to partake.

OP, I agree with the sentiment here, but you can't use mobile odin until your are already rooted. One option you could follow the guide linked in my signature to root the phone and go from there.
My personal suggest is that if you're running stock ROM, updating an official stock ROM and having problem, I call the provider for help.
My download and install went fine but I incounterd some unusual problems afterwards. My phone doesn't always keep a data signal while browsing the internet and a phone reboot makes it return. Setting browsers home to Google instead of default AT&T doesn't stick. I also had few dropped calls and very low signal bars in status bar at my house which gingerbread gave me full ones.
same here

[Q] Dead Screen-Warranty problems

Hi,
A hour ago i was leaving my work my when i accidentally dropped my phone on the stairs.:crying:
My phone screen doesnt work anymore so i have a real problem now because i flashed my phone several times and of course its rooted.
So i thought of restoring my phone with odin to the stock rom unrooted the only problem i will have is my flash counter i want to send my phone back to samsung but how do i use triangleaway if my phone screen is dead?
Edit: Screen doesnt work, Led does sound does, connecting it to my laptop also works only the screen and the touch buttons (menu & Back) doesnt work (lightup)
Can somebody provide with some advice i really would appreciate it also sorry for my bad english.

Update made screen unresponsive.

Hi,
My Z4 just asked to update the ROM, and afterwards, the screen has areas that are no longer touch sensitive.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks for any ideas!
Jim
Have you tried rebooting, then opening the Diagnostics app and running the touch screen test? If there are still dead spots showing in the test, you might want to flag it to Sony support.
I'm not certain if it's a software or hardware issue, but I have found both pre and post-update, that the touchscreen occasionally becomes less responsive, to the point that trying to use a drag gesture doesn't work without the touch dropping out. This happens every couple of days, and I suspect it's to do with throttling as it coincides with very sluggish performance. Seems to resolve itself when left for a few minutes, or a reboot.
Yes! I thought it was just me. I have a tempered glass screen protector and removed it to confirm whether it was causing the issues. Also ran the diagnostics which ran just fine.
It seems to be perfectly fine after a reboot and then the longer you go the worse it gets.
Hoping that this is fixed in the 5.1.1 update whenever that happens.
The conditions that this occurs does seem extremely sporadic. After playing Star Wars Uprising for ~45 minutes yesterday morning, the touch screen failed to recognise any swipes or taps, to the point I had to force a restart with the power button to exit the game. After leaving the Z4 for 15 minutes, no issues at all.
Last night I managed to play the same game for over 90 minutes, and today for another 90 minutes with no problems at all.
I'm starting to think that it could be performance throttling, alternatively I have noticed the screen getting particularly warm above where the SOC sits. Could this temperature be affecting the screen sensitivity? Using CPU-Z I have found some of the sensors reporting around 70C, battery around 35C, though this is after running intensive games. I'm unsure if the upper temperature is normal for this type of chip or not.

I have the very same problem:
Tempered glass from IVSO and the original case from Sony.
Since the update the touchscreen is VERY unresponsive.
I removed the case (!) and it got better (seriously, WTF?).
Does it mean to remove the tempered glass will solve the problem?
But it was fine before upgrade to 251. Sony sucks...

I reset to factory settings, and that may have cleared it up... but I'm not positive.
I'll update this thread when I play with it some more.
Did anyone have success with removing the screen protector?
OK - I can confirm that a factory reset after the upgrade does not solve the problem. My tablet cannot pass the touch screen diagnostic.

I removed the case, not the screen protector.
But some issues are left, so i hope for the next FW-Update...
An update:
I reached out to Sony's support group. They suggested downloading the PC companion app and having it reflash the .251. This does a factory reset.
This made the touchscreen response significantly worse.
My next step is to see if they will let me downgrade to the previous release, because the tablet was working flawlessly on that release.
Sony support says you can't downgrade to the previous rom. I found flashtool, but can't find the old rom to flash onto the tablet. Still looking...
Noticed the same thing after the update.. Hoping for a fix soon as it was flawless before the update.
Now simply browsing is annoying because it either misses swipes or registers them as longer swipes, causing the page I'm trying to read to scroll down super fast as if I flicked it when I actually scrolled slowly. :crying:
There is no update coming. Sony does not acknowledge that the problem exists.
Need more people to post on Sony offical forum, tell them this problem.
I'm hoping the .253 version helps this problem. It doesn't appear to be available for anyone yet.

Here is a complete tutorial about flashing any firmware on your Z4 tablet, even downgrade to an older one.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
I flashed Nordic version of 28.0.A.7.24 firmware and my touchscreen sensitivity is back to normal
If you have any questions about the flashing procedure feel free to ask.
I had this exact problem after updating to 224. Ran the Sony Pc companion program on my windows pc and did a full software restore on my z4. problem solved.

I'm not sure whether is it because of root or Xposed, but after doing a factory reset, the touchscreen seems a bit more responsive. It is after rooting or installing xposed that the problem comes back up.

Ah, I also have intermittent touch problems. Until now I kept thinking it's because my finger is too cold or something, but I have it since upgrading to .224 also. Rooted and running Xposed v.85.1.

Yea, I kinda think it's either because of root or Xposed that's interfering with the touch sensors. But I'm kinda leaning onto to Xposed that's causing the problem.

Fingerprint sensor error

My Alpha was working normally for 3 weeks, and then a day, it started to give an error when trying to unlock with fingerprint: "an error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor"
I unlocked it with password, then switched off fingerprint lockscreen. Then when I tried to turn it back on (click on the fingerprint manager) it dropped this error again "an error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor".
I have done factory reset, reinstalled with odin, downgraded to 4.4.4, no success. Then I took it to the service centre, they have replaced the home button and updated the software (to the same it was on it previously: 5.0.2 COI3, XEH region). The fingerprint worked at the service centre when I tried it. Then I went back home, done factory reset, few hours elapsed, then I tried to register my fingerprint, and this error showed up again. I reinstalled it with odin, with kies, downgraded to 4.4.4, deleted fingerprint app data, no success. I have found nothing helpful on the internet with hours of searching. It should be software related I think, it's very unlikely, that the hardware error (like unglued home button or something) occurred again, within this kinda short time.
Please help me, what to do. I would be very grateful
Im also having this problem, and many more people i believe. There are some fixes to this like heating it up or something. For some people it works, for some it doesn't.
EDIT: there's a video on youtube about it, you can try it.

I've seen it but I'm afraid that the screen or something will unglue due to the heat...
I ordered Premium Warranty Shipping, with spare phone, I hope they fix it but I will tell them firmly to replace the full phone or refund me the 510$ what's on the receipt.
But I'm open for any solution if anybody have it.

Going to second this, the fingerprint scanner works great for me, also slating a phone because it doesn't have any unofficial support is stupid.
Anyway probably best to send it back

What the Hell's Wrong with This Samsung Galaxy Express 3 / J120A?

Longshot, but what the heck...
Recently we were given this thing, an AT&T Galaxy Express 3 SM-J120A UD. It powers up fine, and the screen doesn't appear broken in any way, but there's no image. That wouldn't be so confusing to me, except that it also shows absolutely no lights of any kind, not when powered on or when charging or any other time. There's never any vibration feedback either. The only sign of life at all is that the sound works fine when it's on. I haven't fully tore into the thing yet, but I've checked that the video cable is indeed connected and have tried removing/reattaching to no avail. What I can see of the cable doesn't appear to be damaged.
So... what the hell's wrong with this thing? Any ideas? If it were just a dead screen, why are the indicator lights and vibration also missing? It's almost like something's just unplugged, but I wouldn't think it would even power on if this were the case. <shrug>
Root successful...........but at&t?
I was able to root with firmware version J120AUCS3AQE1 but because mine is an AT&T phone the bootloader is "locked and signed" meaning it's never going to unlock........? I have the latest version of firmware that came out in may 2017 and it will be available to you as soon as I can post an outside web address............ Every Recovery image that I flashed caused everything to fail and a big triangle that said AT&T detected software on your device that is not allowed on our device so I guess this one is never really your own........ but you can Root with Kingroot and supersume pro to get rid of bloatware and such but other than that no custom stuff on this one.
If Kingroot keeps freezing just restart phone and keep trying it took me a long while to obtain root.
