Cant call on 4g only on 2g after imei change - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys I have a S8 galaxy and it fell in the water and the board got damaged.. I had to change it with an old board from an old wrecked S8 from the store.. and I live in syria .. and in syria you cant use the phone unless you pay a fee to the government for clearance for each new phone .. and they are not giving clearance nowadays for anynew phone *war related orders* ..
So the tech store guy offered to change the imei of the new board to the old imei that I had .. in that case we can use the new board on the network..
After he changed it we had a problem that we can use 4g network for data but we cant make calls .. I can make calls on 2g network only ..
In the past whenever I wanted to make a call the phone would automatically change from 4g to 3g and make the call.. now the phone is changing from 4g to H and not making the call ..
Does anyone know what should I do ?

3g sim on xda11 sim working

I am on a 3g contract and only use it for phone calls, I do not use the 3g stuff(directley as I know of) Is it possible to transfer my IMEI number to the XDA11 and will it work on the 3G network. I can then use the XDA11 and not have to carry two phones, well more like bricks but good stuff.
IMEI is harcoded into a phone and cant be changed in most cases not to mention it being illegal
if 3's sim were compatible which the newer ones are not you could use it in the xda phone though unless 3 have some odd IMEI locking on their networks
Thank you for your reply rudgear
Thank you for your reply rudgear, If it was possible could it work. Changing IMEI is legal in the uk, but not in some countries.

YES !!! youre right.... so far I know in Indonesia almost everybody can change imei ...
Hi , I don't konw about the IMEI , but I know that you can use the 3G sim card with 2G phone if the provider use another network for roaming , in this case you will use the roaming one always and you will lose the benfits of 3G.
The only reason I have a 3g phone from three is the cheap calls/conrtact I don't want the 3g stuff, it's to expensive at the moment. I think 3g link up with O2 if there is no signal on thier network. maybe it,s possible to stay on the O2 network with a 2G phone?
indra 9110
I have read http://wiki.xda-developers.com, this did not help, I bought a serial cable and used that with a full reset and the xda malipulator, that did not work or the xda2unlock.
the xda manipulator only work with walaby xda1 devices and some say only with some radio stacks
as far as i know you cant change the imei it's hardcoded in a chip or something and cant be altered could be wrong though but i've never heard about anybody doing it
Currently I use 3G sim card with 2G phone and it work fine but in roaming mode because the 3G company has contract with another company to serve there customers where is no 3G coverage ... however my brother signed new contract with 3G and they give him sim card but in diffrent color , The new sim card doesn't work in my phone which mean the company changed something in the new sim cards .
note : I have to use manual network in my phone then I chose the other tel co. .

Never had a 3G connection...I think?

Hey all,
Currently using an unbranded HTC Hero on Orange, unsure if I am getting a 3G connection though, icon wise I constantly have a "G" but unsure if it should show "3G" instead, also seen an "E" a couple of times which I assume is Edge but didn't know Orange supported it.
Just wondering if a 3G icon as such actually exists? If so could it be a setting somewhere I haven't got configured correctly?
Thanks
Russ
Could be 2 things.
You have use only 2G networks checked in the settings
OR
You need a new sim, although the phone supports 3G your sim needs to as well. If you are still using an old sim which was from a non 3G mobile then you need a new one. Contact your provider to ask them for a new one (you will keep your number).
how to REALLY find out whether you are connected with 3G? i mean not just looking for that 3G symbol ;-)

I had to do this a while back, if you have never bought a 3G phone from Orange you probably have a 2G SIM. Call them and they will send you a new one for free.
So I'm right in thinking there should be a 3G icon? I'll get onto them thanks
Well in a very strange turn of events I may actually benefit from this. Having called Orange to ask for a 3G SIM (they confirmed I had 2G) they basically said it wasn't possible to do a straight swap, something about contracts.
After a bit of complaining they have basically come to the conclusion that the only way to help me out is to restart my contract from scratch and send me out a new 3G handset along with the SIM.
So not only will I have my beloved Hero running on 3G I will also have an as yet unspecified 3G handset for sale!
Just waiting for them to call back
And the handset I will be getting...a HTC Touch 3G!
Should fetch a pretty penny
Thats really bull**** why can't they swap your sim card. i had vodafone sim card i lost it and went to vodafone they give me a new sim card directly 5 minuts later it was active. its very weird that they have to give you new contract.
thats ****in crazy! i'd not accept that!
Replacing like for like isn't an issue, it's because I need to "upgrade" the SIM card as such that they have a problem.
Still, works out nicely for me considering I was only 4 months into my contract and have a pretty sweet deal of £15 a month for 200 mins, unlimited txts and 500mb data. So no complaints that I have to restart my contract.

[Q] My S2 is blacklisted? or is it??

Hi everyone
so today my tmobile galaxy s2 decides to not receive any signal from my carrier. In addition, the flight mode cannot be turned off.
Did some research and turns out my phone could be locked due to 3 reasons and the only possible explanation i can think of it is blacklisted due to "lost or stolen"
I bought this phone off craiglist.
When I thought all hope is lost and time to buy another phone.. i did a factory reset and wipe cache, and now my phone has signal again. So to all the experts out there.. what does my case mean??
My phone just wanted me to suffer today or this is a temp fix and tmobile will soon catch on and block my signal again??
THANK YOU everyonee
Based on your past posts (in the Vibrant section), it seems you are a T-Mobile USA user. In which case, your Galaxy SII is actually the SGH-T989, not the GT-I9100. You're in the wrong section.
SGH-T989 forum here.
EDIT: actually, since you got the thing off craigslist, maybe you DO have an i9100. Either way, check for your model number on the label under the battery.
perhaps re-insert the sim-card
even though carriers are able to deactivate the phone service for you i never heard of any carrier being remotely interested of offering that service to customers who lost their phone or even the police. the police would not even bother to take action for such a low value object

Recently I stumbled upon an article for US legislating a law that will force the carrier to deactivate signal reception for phone (like the one in EU) if the one is reported stolen by the police (I had a friend who bought a stolen phone and the police came knocking on his door). I know for a fact that "blacklisting" is done based on the IMEI number of the phone (which you can not alter with) so to be honest I don't have a clue what could be the problem/solution in your case.

unless it was blacklisted blocked based on IMEI and by fluke, when he updated the rom he corrupted his EFS folder.. Go into 'about phone' in settings. if the IMEI is listed and correct for the handset, and you have data and phone signal then your phone is not blocked for lost or stolen... More likely the phone has an intermitent fault hence why it was on sale on craigslist.... Use it, if the problem resurfaces come back on here...

you will be surprised how well the carriers are informed and trying to stop thievery. Orange and Tmobile are teaming up to share their database

I noted you quoted everyone else's reply but mine. ARE YOU SURE IT IS AN I9100 AND NOT AN SGH-T989?
EDIT to add: I should also note: if you are, indeed, a T-mobile USA user, and if it IS, in fact an I9100, then you will not ever get T-mobile's "4g" speeds with the phone. The I9100 doesn't have the required hardware antenna to receive one of the two necessary bands to get high speed mobile data on that network.
If it is an SGH-T989, on the other hand, then you are in the wrong forum. The T-mobile USA Galaxy SII has completely different hardware from the GT-I9100, and thus has a separate forum.

S6 Edge 3G/4G/LTE wont work even if their life depended on it.

My issue started randomly and not after a drop or something like that, basically it wont work on 4G,3G,LTE networks,if you try to call me while the phone is set to those,it will say my phone is offline,i cant call anyone, and i cant connect to any mobile networks, tested the SIM with other phones and it works perfectly, factory reseted the phone, changed the APN and crap to the correct settings at my local service provider and none of those worked,so all im left with is maybe an antenna problem? a major issue is that the screen is c r a c k ed,like a bullet hit it,and i dont know if its safe to open the phone, the service dude i sent it to said, that to reach and replace them antenna he would risk braking the OLED panel and trashing this beauty of a phone,i also contacted mister samsung about this but since me self dropped my balisong on it by mistake, the crack makes the phone a guarantee voided piece of brick.Danke to whoever comes up with a solution to this mess i helped to make unsolvable.

S6 EDGE wont work on 4G/3G

So i've had my S6 edge since 2017,after 6 months something happened out of the blue (i've dropped the phone but there was no damage the day or even week it happened) and the 3G/4G wouldnt work,it acts as if there is no SIM card in it when its on these spesific settings (AUTO 4G/3G/2G, 4G/3G, 3G) anything that dares to have 4G or 3G on it,the phone will act like theres no SIM in it,the mobile data wont work, and when someone calls me,it will say i have my phone turned off.First thing i did is go to the SIM carrier, they reset the phone, reset the APN settings, gave me a new SIM just in case and sent me on my merry way.Rubbish didnt work,so i am here to ask, could this be a hardware failure or should i do something with the software side.I should mention that the screen is cracked, would this be a dangerous repair because of it?
