Adding Widevine to stock rom (this is not about getting L1, but about installing wv L3 where there is NO wv) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
sorry if double-posting, but maybe none of those with relevant Android knowledge have seen this in the general-general-Q+A forum.
tl;dr: title says it all.
No LOS / other custom rom available for those devices, manufacturer won't do anything about it (been there, asked that) => need an approach for the stock rom. Any thoughts?

Adding Widevine to stock rom (this is not about getting L1, but about installing wv L3 where there is NO wv)
Hi all, I have a gadget ("Onyx Boox Poke3" e-reader with bluetooth audio capabilities) which has no Widevine (WV) support at all, not even L3. So this is not about how to get from L3 back to L1, but how to add WV support "at all" where there is...

LG MAGNA or LG Prime Plus HDTV (In Brazil)

Hi guys, i have a LG Prime Plus HDTV (It's name in Brazil) but his real name is LG MAGNA, and i want to install a ROM Google Edition in that, can you help me with this, if you have a clean ROM for this cellphone?
Me too
I only want to backup my original room so I can change it with a relative security, in order to, I rev to install ROM manager. The only problem is that the app didn't have an specific pack to the LG h502, or prime plus in Brazil. (huebr)
That is not going to be easy, first of all, development for LG Magna is practically nonexistent! Second of all, it would have to be a signed stock kernel since (as far as I know) the bootloader cannot be unlocked, and for that reason, you can not install a custom recovery either...
Now, having said that, it is not imposible. LG has published the firmware on their opensource site. So in theory, you only have to compile it, which is way more effort than the one I am willing to put on this little phone.
If you have the time and the moxy here is the link to the firmare:

Mi Box 3S: MM vs Nougat?

Hi guys
Tomorrow I'm getting my Mi Box 3S (international). I'm pretty new to Android TV. I read a lot about Nougat Beta problems, but I'm not sure if they will be a problem for me, so I'm searching for opinions.
I need:
- Youtube, Netflix, Chromecast, Kodi, Play Store
- HDMI-CEC
- Auto Refresh Rate (only if it works as expected)
- Bluetooth Keyboard
- stable system without rebooting to keep smooth
I don't need:
- 4K / HDR
- Dolby Pass-Through, Toslink, etc
- Root
Should I stick with MM or flash Nougat Beta, if the latter which build? I read 1028 should be good. Any other advantages/disadvantages of Nougat Beta?
Thanks
There is no such device as Mi Box 3S International
You need to specifically order by exact model number MDZ-16-AB. That will narrow your selection to the Official AndroidTV version.
Yes, with International I meant -AB version.
Interestingly I got an -AA version, but it had AndroidTV 6.0.1 installed. Something was wrong with this box though:
- Serialnumber in Settings showed 0123456789ABCDEF
- Netflix didn't work (UI-800-3 error)
- DRM Info showed only Widevine L3
- System updates didn't work (stuck on "waiting for download")
Seems it was flashed with -AB version, which lead to broken DRM.
Anyway I returned it and went with a nVidia Shield TV 2017, which is one of the best things I bought recently

Unknown / Missing Widevine CDM

With all pie ROM coming in XDA, I picked up my favorite phone again and flash those rom. It went mostly fine, but then I realized that I can't use Netflix (even with older apk).
After installing DRM Info apps, I found that I have unknown Widevine CDM, so it is not even Widevine L3. I expected that I will miss Widevine L1 after bootloader unlock, but I don't think that I will not have any Widevine CDM. I tried several ROM including stock rom, but it won't restore my Widevine CDM.
To be honest I am not sure since when I lost Widevine CDM, but maybe this is a known issue, or anybody else has this experience? I tried to search Widevine in this Troubleshooting forum but can't find anything yet.
Thanks !
Hello!, I see the same issue on all PIE ROMs I tested, the solution i found to have Widevine L3, is after you flash the ROM, flash the RZ Kernel.
But if you have any exFAT card or USB you want to use with Z2 with this kernel, the OS won't recognize the storage, because the lack of support of the exFAT FS on the RZ Kernel.

Thanks, WIdevine L3 worked after flashing RZ Kernel. Seems SELinux is not enforced for RZ, but it's fine for me as this is not my main phone currently (although with Pie ROM, I am really tempted to use it again daily )
Before reading your solution, my workaround is using patched Netflix apk that floating around in XDA and will force HD streaming , but the version is a bit old.
So thanks for your help !!

SHT-W09 C567 rebranding

has anyone managed to rebrand to a different version? i tried funkyhuwei and managed to get halfway thru the process, but was stuck at the firmware install thru their version of huiste and needed to unbrick it using erecovery. I was hoping to upgrade to 9.0 after rebranding.
for anyone looking to do this, i gave up on my own. i paid $30 to Ministry Of Solutions. He rebranded it to C432 i am now on emui 9.1

After the rebranding and update to 9.1, do you have Widevine L1 for Netflix in 1080p HD or do you have L3 (SD)? I was thinking about rebranding my Mediapad M5 through the same service but if I don't keep Widevine L1 it may not be worth it
i wouldn't know how to check that. i am only getting 960x540 on all episodes of test patterns in netflix. i do get 1920x1080 on other tablets i own

You can check by downloading "DRM Info" from the Play store. If you open it and look at the Widevine CDM section, you'll see what it shows for Security Level, L1 or L3
DRM Info - Apps on Google Play
Shows DRM information (Widevine, PlayReady, etc) from Android DRM Framework

Darn ☹ thats disappointing. I would love to be on EMUI 9.1 but I don't think I can give up HD video to do it. Thanks for checking
Well, I just checked on my device (M5, 8,4", C437, stock rooted EMUI 9.1, security patch September 2020) and I do get security level L1 in Widevine CDM section
@tensux is your SafetyNet - check green?

@AndDiSa Was your M5, 8,4", C437 rebranded from a different version or is it still the stock region, just rooted? The US C567 has L1 on the stock EMUI 8, so it sounds like @tensux may have lost that when he rebanded. Or would just using Magisk maybe bring it back?
It's still stock, not rebranded, but trying to root with Magisk may be a solution as Magisk is able to bring back passing SafetyNet on unlocked devices. Probably in his case it's working, too ...

yes it does pass safetynet. I am not rooted. i had him rebrand from a usa version to a european one so that it could be updated to android 9
ok i rooted with magisk. still showing L3
Do you still pass SafetyNet? If yes, the only idea what comes into my mind is: rebranding is installing a new OS and all of its dependencies but leaves certificates and keys alone. In that case, the device the keys used to identify in relation to widevine are still the ones from the C567 device and so it's still identified as a L3 device ...

Question Rooted - Widevine L1 Certification

Has anyone been able to restore widevine l1 certification ocne you unlocked your bootloader? Currently running the latest .128 USA rom on an xc62 with the latest kirishima rom. My device is currently spoofed as a nexus 6p. Google play is certified. Google wallet works. Magisk is hidden and renamed. Netflix and anything Google shouldn't see it but I'm still at l3 certification. Anyone have a fix?
There is no fix for L1 because you unlocked your bl so the drm keys are gone and that gives you L3 widevine.
