Question Force 90hz refresh rate - OnePlus Nord 2 5G

Hi
Is there a way to force 90hz refresh rate system-wide? Apps like Samsung Internet or YouTube can only be used with 60hz.
There is a way to do that for the OnePlus Nord 1 by executing the following ADB command, but it didn't work for my Nord 2:
adb shell settings put global oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0
Any ideas?

Change the oneplus with oppo? Maybe that will help?
You could also try:
"adb shell settings list global | grep refresh"
just send the output , might have the same option.

Autohz in the app store works on older oneplus handsets, don't see why it wouldn't work on Nord 2

Hi - I'm having the same issue. The oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0 appears to do nothing on this model. Attached is my global (without the grep refresh). Sadly I already tried adding oneplus_screen_refresh_rate, you can also see a mistype of oneplus_sccreen_refresh_rate, and a speculative oplus_screen_refresh_rate which I added based off other items in the global file.

Also tried this app, got the toggles to show 90Hz for each app but the dev frequency tool showed most still dropped to 60Hz. I assume this app is just adjusting the oneplus_screen_refresh_rate setting.

This is a massive deal breaker for me, my Nord 2 arrives tomorrow and is being sent straight back. These are now nothing more than Oppo handsets in Oneplus branding. If you check the Oppo forums this is a known issue where Oppo decide which apps can and cannot run at the higher RR and as far as I can tell there is no fix either (certainly not without root). As Samsung internet is my browser of choice not Chrome (which will run at 90hz) this is something I refuse to live with, all other manufacturers have no issue running this app at the HRR.

Can you please give it a go before you send it back and let me know how it goes? This was my first attempt at using the ADB tool and was operating on less than 3 hours sleep (though I am a generally competent person technically).

Hi,
The adb commands are:
adb shell settings put system peak_refresh_rate 90.0
adb shell settings put system min_refresh_rate 90.0

I use Macrodroid for switch between 60 and 90 Hz.. turn off screen 60Hz, turn on 90Hz. On Fkm you can make qs buttons with Scripts.

Ok, I have tried all fixes and I still cannot get all apps to run at 90HZ, Samsung internet and google photos still run at 60hz despite trying AutoHZ with the Nord 2 fix and also trying the ADB commands above. I am returning this handset and it will be the last Oneplus (OPPO) phone I buy,

A global function not possible at the moment. this regulates a file refresh_rate_config.xml namely, which is in my_products .. this file cannot be edited .. not yet

sakarya - sorry can you please explain what those commands do? I'm trying to force a specific app to run at 90Hz that only wants to run at 60Hz.
Thanks!

Thanks for the assistance.
Sorry I'm a beginner, I ran this in a local terminal app called 'Terminal Emulator' and got the message saying 'Operation not permitted'. Is there anything else specific I need to be doing?

Yes only works with root

OK, I'll look into that. Thanks again.

After restart not work. For automatic start on reboot use FKM

[Q] Android or Prime Test/Debug Software

I'm trying to help out my sister who bought one of these (against my recommendation as the thought of new hardware (Tegra 3) running with new software (ICS) in the hands of a non-tech person makes me break out in a cold sweat). She is well beyond the return window, other than to ASUS. However, after playing with this thing (for test purposes only) for the last few days, it is pretty sweet! So, before I try the return route with ASUS, I decided to try and find out what issues it really has.
I've read most everything I could find on this and several other forums but unfortunately, I haven't seen any mention of any test software or something I could run that would let me get low level sensor readings, grab crash logs etc.. There appear to be numerous reported issues, but I haven't seen the results of any controlled testing that has been done (ie many problems could be the result of some apps themselves and/or the particular tablet setup.
I've installed the Android Dev package and it appears I can link the debugger with the tablet though ADB. I was running the debugger trying to get a lockup to occur prior to the .13 update, but the damn thing ran fine! Crashed as soon as I disconnected it from the debugger!!!
So, my questions are:
- Is there an app that would allow me to directly read sensor values and/or perform any very low level diganostics? Save and grab crash dumps, etc?
- Do I need to be rooted to run this kind of stuff? Or worse, wait for the bootloader unlock tool?
- Has anyone here already done something like this?
- Can anyone point me to some other site that might be able to help me?
I have confirmed that the GPS is useless, but she does not care about that.
The WiFi "seems" weak but I have not yet tested it in a controlled environment. She was OK with the performance she was getting at home, but she had not yet taken it out on a "date" to see if it would perform!
The occasional random reboots appear to be gone since I updated it to .13
There have been several occurrences of the tablet going into a coma while sleeping that require some extraordinary measures to wake it (hopping on one leg while scattering chicken feathers to the wind, etc).
I am going to wipe the thing clean to remove any potential rogue apps, but I don't even trust the pre-installed stuff which is why I am looking for some low-level diagnostic stuff.
Any technical help would be greatly appreciated! I do low-level stuff with microcontrollers, but very little OS based development stuff, so be gentle with me.
Please send all "just return it" or "my tablet works fine so you must be doing something wrong" responses elsewhere. I doubt ASUS will refund her money along with the taxes she paid on it and the there are definitely issues with it. I am just trying to determine whether it is mostly software related issues (which could eventually be resolved) or whether the hardware, especially the WiFi is truly an issue.
Thanks, and sorry for the excessively long post.

From a terminal emulator ( https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm )
Try this:
Code:
# cat /proc/kmsg > /mnt/sdcard/some-clever.name
This should continuously log kernel messages, but I haven't tried it myself.
Woops, forgot you need root for this.
Elixir 2 looks like a good tool. I think I'm getting info overload already!

Is the kmsg logfile created new everytime the tablet boots? If so, the your method would preserve the pre-crash log yes? That would be useful! Looks like I need to learn how to root this thing.
Also, do you know if there is a list of available console commands somewhere?
Thanks for the info
Rooting is very simple n easy. Just check out the developement section.
It looks like someone created an automated root tool. Might give that a try.
Before I do, does this thing have a recovery mode in case some idiot (me) does something stupid while rooted? Can I just re-install the current OS version from a file on the sd card?

There isn't a recovery yet for prime. Other than Asus one. If anything goes wrong, you can just manually install the firmware from Asus website with prime hooked up to a PC. Or from putting zip file on root of SD card. The root method here is pretty safe though. Once you rooted, get voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to back up n save your root. So once a new update comes out n breaks root, you can just restore root through this app. Its free.
Happy Rooting!
Great! I'll do a little more research then give it a try.
I'm starting to like this tablet. It is mostly stable now, other than the occasional comatose state that occurs. It never did that before the update, but until I rule out the apps, I can't point a finger at it. The WiFi is my biggest concern at the moment, but there could be other things causing issues with that as well. Until I can control more of the variables, any testing is really subjective.
Again thanks for the info! Gives me a good starting point to do some further analysis.

kmsg is a process that runs all the time on the OS, so when you point the output to a text file, it will constantly write the kernel messages to it (just run the command in terminal, and continue about your regular use... it should continue to run in the background).
When the system locks/freezes up or reboots, you'll be able to see what the last kernel message was, which should help you narrow down the issue.

Did some has global ROM to install on my find X Chinese version?

I purchased my phone something like 2 Month ago.
I purchased by mistake the Chinese version and I only noticed that when I got the phone.
Since I was waiting a long time to the phone I didn't want to return it and I thought I can get used to it.
But after two months with it I think Im gonna go crazy:crying:
I don't have Google assistant the third party launcher is not fully functional (after I forced to manually remove the system launcher) And the massaging app Is stupid and don't support third party apps I mean WTF????
Please , does somebody has/know where to get international ROM for download?

I don't think so.
This days you have the xiaomi mi mix 3 witch is for my opinion much better than oppo find X and cost even lower than 500 EUR.
Even if wasn't for the xiaomi I still don't recommend to purchase the Chinese version. It's totally sucks!!!!
And If you do want to buy, you can buy my phone for 400 EUR..

Thank you! Your comment is very valuable to me!
What is worst that does not work?
I like design of Oppo better than Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 a little bit better. Honor Magic 2 is what I also consider (it is even more powerful).
I am not a heavy user of a phone. I mostly use it for calls and emails. Also some browsing, youtube and taxi apps. Maybe taking some photos of my children. I do not use that much apps. But I never had Chinese version of phone, so I do not know what problems could be.
P.S. Which one do you have (what color), what is its condition and where are you located?

Basically the most annoying things is the fact that Google apps aren't the default for everything. Start with Google assistant and ends with browser and You can't change the default settings for most things.
Also, the massage app is completely out of sense because all of the 'security' that oppo put in the app.
Talking about security:
1. They have annoying security keyboard (but you can change it to Google keyboard).
2. They have kind of secure Chinese browser that almost that serching in it bring up only Chinese website's And you can't change the default that while you open a link that Oppo think it's should be secure automatically it's direct to Oppo browser Wich don't have all of your passwords and username for this very secure page..
3. Like I said the massaging app.
4. You need to open oppo account for security and you can't open one directly from the phone because they only allow Chinese phone number (it is possible to other countries but it's very complicated).
5. I'm sure there is more that I forget or don't know about.
P.S I'm located in Israel.
It's the blue one.
256GB ROM 8GB RAM
Actually it's in a pretty great condition except for a very few unnoticed screech's. If you want to buy it, I can list it on eBay end send you a link.

I used also ADB to remove the system launcher so I can use some other launcher and it worked, I can now use any launcher I please.
But on any launcher I tried including Nova, when I tried to go back from the app currently opened to that main screen I mean when I tried to use the middle button it's just exit all open apps including the launcher and direct me to this screen

I didn't do anything special. I installed nova, and removed the stock launcher. Works just fine for me and everyone I know. Try changing the home button action to NONE in the gesture settings in nova.

Howto
There are special versions out there. But they are a few years old, so you can't skip or get the timeline.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-netflix-hd-for-widevine-l1-device.3942467/
Also I heard from someone in Korea who create a successful bypass.
I am also having HD issues with both Amazon Prime Video and Nextflix.
I prefer not to root due to the validations I have on apps I use for work. (eg. Outlook, Office, Wrike, etc.)

Stock CN Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 5G (enuma) here, for Amazon Prime Video, if you enroll in the beta program at Play Store page and install latest beta, you will be able to watch in 1080p FHD.
I don't have Netflix subscription, but I guess the underlying issue is the same, i.e. the device is not on the whitelist yet. Maybe anyone with Netflix beta program access can try and tell us the results.
Guess it still takes time for stream service providers to whitelist this device.

It shows 1080p, and man this is like night and day. So much better.
Lets just hope that it stays that way.
Great to see that there is support for FHD content on the popular streaming services now.
Only thing that i don't like is how they don't allow for the pad 5 pro to stream in Dolby vision and ATMOS, even though it's certified for it...

No one confirmed yet if they have it as mine. Another thing is that you don't know it might go back to potato quality in any minute.

Because of the fact that there is no existing global Rom for Pad 5 Pro until now the "normal" Netflix app shows Widevine Level 3 on my device though we all now that it has in fact Level 1. I don´t know how long this situation will last until Netflix reacts. We don´t have any influence on this. So for me the proposed app is the only solution to watch Netflix on 1080p momentarily. If anyone wants to use only the official Netflix app then watch movies in SD or buy a different tablet.

Ah, thanks for the info. So there is progress on the Netflix side. I´m currently on Pixel Experience GSI, because I don´t like the Chinese MIUI. I guess this is why I can´t get the original Netflix app to work properly.

Question Esim option hidden

Hi,
I am currently using a Pixel 6 and I am trying to change to Esim, my provider gives the option for Esim and has provided me the QR code.
I go through the complete process, the phone is able to download and install the Esim and provides me with the message that I need to go to settings and enable it, however when I go over to the settings screen all that I am shown is just the regular settings screen as if I hadn't added anything at all, if I try to add it a second time it tells me that the sim is already on the device, this used to be a Verizon phone and based on the threads it looks like they are ass*** and block services and features on purpose to make more difficult the change to a different provider.
My guess is that the Esim is added and is there but the option to turn it on is hidden somewhere, is there a way to turn the Esim on through adb or to make visible a hidden menu ?

Thing is that do you live in a supported country?
Devices & services country availability - Google Store Help
Here's where you can find devices available for purchase on the Google Store. To buy a device from the Google Store, your shipping address must be in the same region as the Google Store you purchased

I mean that list is only for purchases that you can buy directly from google within those countries, for the features as long as the provider works with the same frequencies, it should basically work the phone works with a regular sim, it is specifically with esim that the menu is either hidden or deactivated.
To provide additional information I found:
Looking for additional information I found that by running the command
dumpsys isub
from within a shell it would list the sim profiles I decided to run the command while having a physical sim card and after removing it the first outcome was this:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and after removing it was this:
So effectively the profile is there for the esim just not activated, while looking at the docs for android https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/telecom/telephony-ids the sims should be listed as 0 and 1 for the physical slots, sim and esim regardless on how many logicals there are, however when the physical gets removed it should go to esim or slot index 1 but instead it goes to -1.
Additionally in one of their forums Verizon said that they did disable the esim on purpose so it looks like it is remnants of their previous ways (apparently they don´t do it anymore) if anyone knows how to switch through ADB it would be a great help, I get some Java codes but I am not sure how to run them
Adding additional information I managed to look at the logs of the system with the Android Suite and the logs indicate that system is not able to see Sim 1 or Sim 2 due to no permissions, I know that Sim 0 is the one on the physical tray so my guess Sim 1 is the Esim and Sim 2 possible a logical one

Question Galaxy S23 Ultra two main issues

Just bought the S23 Ultra yesterday.
Problem 1
This tab thaf says wifi calling confirm address does not work when I put my address in and this confirm address just sits there and won't close.
Problem 2
My default browser is samsung internet of which is my favorite browser.
Everytime I click a link in my gmail email, A unknown browser pops up every single time, At the top right the 3 dots of the unknown browser it gives me the option to open in samsung browser.
I want to be able to click on a link in my gmail email and my samsung internet browser opens, not some weird browser
With my note 10+ I do not have these issues, I do not have a default browser that never opens, but a unknown browser opens.
This is a severe headache for me.
If these issues can't be fixed. I'm goinv to return this S23 Ultra get my money back and be happy with my note 10+
I'd stick with the N10+, I have two. The biggest issues are SOT and no expandable storage. In spite of being a dinosaur it's a better balanced and more functional phone especially if running Android 9 or 10. New ones can still be purchased loaded with 10. It's a joy to use and is still snappy fast.
The wifi issue may need an update. For both issues try clearing the system cache. Android Web View is probably what you're seeing. You need to set the Samsung browser as the default browser. If that doesn't work there's probably another buried setting you're not spotting. Samsung is notorious for this... some hidden menus aren't even marked. Start double tapping... everything

}
Note, to those ignored members (3) below laughing this 1.5tb daul drive N10+ gets 9 hours SOT with a degraded battery that's set for replacement. How's your SOT?
GMail probably has a setting to open it up within the app. If you turn that off, it should open with the default browser.
I have the same issue with the WiFi Calling with Telus Canada. I know what it is though. It's the carrier, Telus, blocking me from using it because I bought my device from T-Mobile USA and not them.

I can confirm that this is a simple fix as mentioned by jcsww. Open 'Settings' in Gmail. Then go to 'General Settings' and untick 'Open web links in Gmail'.

It's not the carrier. It's your US spec phone.

No. It's the carrier! I was told specifically by a Telus Network Engineer that they block all non-Canadian devices and devices not sold by Telus from accessing VoWiFi and VoLTE. Some devices are also blocked from accessing 5G.

I wonder if the situation would be the same in reverse? Canadian phone with US carrier. Didn't realize you have a residence in Virginia as well.

It works fine with every other SIM from Canadian carriers. Even flashing to the W firmware yields the same results. Canadian and US devices are pretty much the same hardware with the exception of a mmWave antenna that is on the US versions but not the Canadian.
