DE-Googlefy my phone please, Whats the best rom? - Realme 7 Questions & Answers

Hello Everyone,
I'm an old school guy, and I believe in true freedom of expressions. As such I would like to stop using programs and services from companies that censor information. Yes I believe in preserving the absolute Freedom of expression is what allows us and children to have freedom. I don't care if I agree/disagree/indifferent of the views.
What's the best ROM to get away from Google, MS?
TIA.
So corny today but so true, those who did not learn the lesson of the past are doomed to repeat it.....

Yeah, CrDroid is an oculist distribution bearing the logo of the "satan". Think I'd rather not have a phone ever than to use the "all seeing eye, aka eye of the horus".
That's something I want to get away from.
Got any others?

I think they just chose it because it looks cool. But if it really is something you can't overlook, then try Nusantara:
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][11] Nusantara v3.2 [AOSP][10-Sept-2021]
/* * Your warranty is... still valid? * * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please * do some research if you have any concerns about features included...

It has a vanilla (no Gapps) build, which is what you're looking for, I'm pretty sure.

Fyi is there a replacement for google assistant? duckduckgo doesn't return much?

Don't know much about Google Assisstant replacements; I don't really use that sorta stuff. Maybe make a forum-post in general? Might find an answer there.
Never heard of Pine64, but it looks interesting to read into. I'm more of a hobbyist when it comes to android and ROMs. Thanks for letting me know it exists
Hopefully Nusantara works out for you.

* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
I told you so.
To install this, you need to know how to use Odin. I will not be giving lessons. I will not be responsible if you take your lessons from a bad youtube video, or a nerdy neighbour who isn't quite right. Be careful.
IF YOU ARE COMING FROM ANOTHER ROM, OBVIOUSLY WIPE FIRST! If you are updating, you should be okay. I'll change this if something changes.
1. -- Install clockwork recovery for the VIBRANT
2. -- Place the zip files in the package on either the internal or external SD, I recommend having an external around for back up purposes if your internal mounts as a CD Drive like mine does.
3. -- FLASH KERNEL FIRST! Use the files in the package through ODIN, have not tested clockwork for flashing, I'd rather not. Maybe later.
4. -- Install Current FadedFroyo version included in package.
5. -- (OPTIONAL) INSTALL GAPPS! You want these, obviously. But only the first time.
Enjoy?
@OP, I added my servers as the mirror for the download, much faster than Megaupload, cheers

No. Don't even attempt to flash this.
Please.
Will be interesting to see how many phones go belly up from this...both Telus and the not too bright Verizon users who try it.
I understand this would turn my vzw fascinate useless, so I am staying away, but is the telus fascinate that drastically different that this rom can't be modified to work on vzw? Pardon, my lack of knowledge, but could some light be shed on this topic?

I don't have an eye roll big enough for why my reasonable reply to your continued public threadcrapping was removed. And let's be clear: because you've made contributions, we're all expected to put up with your behavior, which is tacitly sanctioned by the moderators.
Interesting reply to my post from a user who no longer exists:

That was an excellent post. The trouble with programmers is they forget their maturity so quickly. I don't know what it is, but I have seen enough grumbling hermits to be astounded at how good development does actually happen in teams, even in the open source arena. That and I hate sering negative stereotypes reinforced time and again.

I'm a developer and I agree with the general sentiment.
In short: it's not necessary to carry a chip on your shoulder and justify it because you've made contributions. It's just as import to act politely and humbly, even when the original post doesn't necessarily warrant that. The world has enough entitled programmers with a voice on the Internet. I used to operate in the same manner, and I hurt more relationships than I fostered.
The IRC attitude that bleeds into these forums is turning away serious developers. We could all do without the aura of "cool" and incessant fawning; the era of the "l33t" developer is over, folks. I'm certainly not going to rush away from my other projects to delve into Fascinate development.
I'd PM this to adrynalyne personally as well, but I'm blocked. Go figure.

I'd ask the same about his constant threadcrapping and negativity. Big fish, little pond.
It's OK, though, I think I get it - this is more of a club than a development community, and some individuals are above reproach. I'll act accordingly from here on out.
Carry on.

Wow...you need to grow up kiddo. What I said was true...and an honest observation.
1. If you don't have a way to go back...someone will screw it up and break their phone.
2. If you post it in a forum for another phone, there will be someone who skips all reading and goes to the download link and tries it.
3. Why do you think dj05 was never posted publicly? No way to go back if needed. Now things have changed and I have provided a way to go back, but its not up to me to give the go ahead to release it on the forums.
4. When someone breaks their phone, they don't come to you to fix it, they come to irc, and usually me. I've been overwhelmed by so many private messages in here and irc, that I've been forced to turn them off here, and not answer all of them on irc.
So get off your moral high horse and stop stalking me through threads like a rabid groupy.
Thanks

Short story, well. I haven't found a single thing that doesn't work yet.
I agree with jimmy to an extent about the leet behavior and aire about some developers but I honestly believe adrynalyne didn't mean to come off in that manner and I don't think it's entirely fair to make adrynalyne a.whipping boy for every developer that was a **** to jimmy. Regardless, throwing stones isn't going to help anything. It's fine to vent but this is kinda the wrong forum for that

My favorite Android Development educational resources (from a noob's perspective)

As an Android Development noob (at the time of this writing, of course), I've spent many hours watching videos and reading tutorials, only to find out that many are either not very noob friendly, or they are way outdated and thus not very good for those who literally have no clue of what's going on. I've wasted so much time trying to make sense of the endless stream dribble out there, that I nearly gave up entirely. Luckily, I was able to stumble across a few resources that help to tie the pieces together and explain in more detail the things that the others failed to do.
If you (like I was at one point) are struggling to make sense of it all and still need that little extra something to stimulate those much needed neural connections being formed (still need that light bulb moment?), then maybe you've come to the right place.

TheNewBostonFirst off, every beginner should know about TheNewBoston. This is a site created by a young man by the name of Bucky Roberts who was tired of not getting anywhere in college, and decided to quit and teach himself. He has a wealth of video tutorials on everything from programming and web development to game development, along with 200 videos on Android Development. It's definitely not my favorite resource, mostly because I have ADHD and the constant stream of “umm...uh...and uh, this, uh...um...” in Bucky's videos, along with his apparent inability to correctly pronounce the word “build”, is just too much for me to bear....but, I digress. Luckily, the Android Development videos are done by a guy name Travis and they are considerably more professional. You'd be hard pressed to find more topics covered in a single location for free anywhere else, which is exactly why I think it had to be mentioned first.NewThinkTankA site created by Derek Banas that covers a wide range of topics from web development to...dieting...??? Nevertheless, his Java and Android Development videos are easily the most professional, straight-forward, and easy to understand tutorials I've seen anywhere. If you can walk away after watching his videos and honestly say you still don't understand what's going on, then you should probably pursue a different hobby (or lay off the paint chips).Level Up TutsThis site has video tutorials that are mostly geared towards web development, but they do have 23 Android App Development videos that are easy to understand, and walk you through building a simple app from start to finish. It's a great resource for newbies that just want to skip over the hours of watching videos, get straight into building their first app., and still be able to understand what's going on. You definitely won't learn everything you need to know about building Android apps, but you will walk away with a decent understanding of how to create your layouts while giving them some functionality, and without needing any prior programming experience. VogellaThis website has an immense amount of current information regarding Android, Java, Eclipse and various other topics. There are no videos, but all the information is laid out as you were reading it from a college textbook. It is very easy to understand, but you should probably go through a few of the video courses mentioned previously before getting started on this site. This is definitely a great resource for filling in the gaps left behind by other tutorials.Java RanchJava Ranch is a site specifically geared towards the Java newbie. It mainly consists of a forum where the only rule for posting is to “be nice”. There are quite a few sub-forums for nearly every aspect of Java, including Android and game development, along with a “Java Beginners” sub-forum where there is literally no such thing as a stupid question. Very newbie friendly and a great place to ask your question if you get stuck on something.JavaPractices
A great site for learning good Java coding style. There are several ways to complete a single task in Java, many of which will cause whoever is reading your code to cringe in horror. If you plan to do anything even remotely complicated in Java/Android, you should definitely push yourself to learn good coding practices. It will make your life so much easier when debugging or asking for help.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Obviously, in order to be an effective Android app Developer, you will need to be able to program in Java (or some other language). And if you're like me, you probably won't get a lot out of simply learning how to create loops and conditional statements without being able to put them to good use. The following are a few sites with Java problem solving exercises (Katas) that test your ability to solve common problems. After many hours of watching videos and reading, they are great resources for you to flex your newly found coding muscles.
CodingBatCodingBat has over 150 different interactive problems that test your code against a predetermined set of arguments. There are 48 “warm-up” problems with solutions available so you can get an idea of how it all works, but after that you're all on your own. Each problem increases in difficulty over the previous ones and they will definitely test your logic like no tutorial can.Cattle DriveJava Ranch's Cattle Drive, is a set of deceptively challenging exercises that are designed to really test your problem solving abilities. The exercises are free to do on your own and you are allowed to ask questions about them in the forums, but you have to enroll in the program if you want experienced developers to “nit-pick” your work and help you develop good coding style and practices. Be sure to research how to pass arguments to your main method using your particular IDE to get the most out of this.ProgrammrThis site has lots of timed, user submitted, interactive problem solving exercises that are mostly geared towards getting the example code to run. You get points for every task completed, and every two weeks the top ten point leaders get $20 gift certificates for Amazon.com. You can choose from several different programming languages including C++, PHP, Javascript, SQL, Python, and they even have an area for Android specific problems (to be added soon). And, although it's kind of buggy, this is a great alternative to the traditional code Katas.ProgrammingPraxisThe largest collection of programming Katas I've seen anywhere. So many, in fact, that they are sorted into themes. Users post their solutions and let others comment on them. Considering the very nature of Katas, the same problems can be solved in numerous different languages, and this becomes very apparent as you view some of the posted solutions, as there are no separate forums for the different languages.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The following are some great sites that have small tutorials and code examples for performing various tasks that you probably wont find in any of the video tutorials (working with Facebook, sending SMS messages, creating live wallpapers, adding design elements, etc.). These are mostly blog sites with individual entries added periodically, but they're great resources for seeing how the different technologies work and adding to your overall Android Development repertoire. These of course, assume you have at least a basic understanding of the Android Development platform.

There should be more than enough here for even the noobiest of noobs to become full-fledged Android Developers without any prior development experience. With that being said, like many of you, I'm still learning, but as I learn and find more resources/tutorials/videos/whatever that are relevant to whatever I'm learning, I will try to list them as well (maybe even try to keep everything up-to-date).
Good Luck, fellow development noobs...you're not alone.

Yes, sorry, have been busy, I'll post a build from Very late August as currently I have issues with building that I need help resolving. Mainly because LineageOS moved to new kernel configs for the regular S5 and so I need to modify one in with the Sport stuff...
Also I currently took my dad's S5 Sport back to stock so I cannot test myself at the moment. If anyone has a spare S5 Sport for testing, I'd gladly take it to finish this ROM and make it official

It would be great if you could add Substratum support. I just flashed a CM14 build and Substratum in Legacy Mode left me with a bootloop.

Don't know quite yet... I flashed cm13 for the time being from an older thread.. I'm a hardcore themer... Everything i have is themed. It's nice to have device info on my desktop with my channel branding.

To me the biggest issue is the white background though... and since this phone has a AMOLED screen well the benefits of a black theme to me are higher... 1 Eats less battery (turns pixels off), 2 Easier on the eyes, especially in dark places, 3 to me it just looks cool.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Nougat got better with the black interface but Oreo went to white so yeah...

I've decided to put up with default theme for a while... CM13 build from other thread was too buggy.
Camera and Flashlight from the pull down notification bar don't work. Got a Substratum Theme to function in Legacy Mode, but it had some bugs.
The built-in root is adb only. I have the file to enable apps you may want to share it. I'll upload it here sometime, also will give you a logcat..
Also I got ViPER Audio working with the IO fix.. Had to set SELinux Permissive to install the drivers.
And lastly, Changing the GPU Governor in Kernel Auduitor causes a reboot.
Here is a zipped Logcat, Bug report, and the SU Addon to add root access for apps.
SU Addon gets flashed in TWRP.
If anyone needs root, then you can find it on the Extras tab of the LineageOS downloads page. I'll try to work on the phone today but my knowledge is not very good still

You have 2 threads for each of your ROM's
This is confusing......
Please chose one and get the mods to remove the duplicates, for everyones sanity, not just mine

For some reason XDA double posted my build threads. This thread is the one I get updates for, not the other one. Will ask a mod to close the duplicates.
I saw your comments on the other thread, I cannot fathom why you would download a ROM called "Pixel Experience" and then complain about GApps being included! It's quite literally baked into the ROM as you can't experience the Pixel phone which is made by Google, without the Google apps......
Whether it's intentional or not, reading some of you recent posts you come across as a sterotypical "entitled" user. Nobody forced you to download any builds of any ROM, this is a development forum and as such bugs are to expected. Rather than complain about bugs and missing features, send logcats and commits for the features you want to see. Perhaps you should read the standard disclaimer in the first post of every ROM you will ever download, including RR:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>

* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications and if
* you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you. Hard & a lot.

I suggest you read my comments again as you are totally misrepresenting what i said., i said in short that some critical G-Apps (like Gmail) were missing, yet some others which are eye candy ar eincluded. I suggested you either fix this or leave G-Apps to the user.
Please dont misrepresent me and then talk down to me, and insult me, it will not go well for you.....if you cant take constructive criticism, perhaps ROM development is not for you. These bugs and oversights should have been evident if you tested your ROM before you simply uploaded them....
For clarity, heres my exact comments from the duplicate thread, please note that thread also included bug reports which i didnt repeat as they had already been expressed:
Tested this ROM, and heres my thoughts/criticisms:
* Inclusion of some G-Apps, while others which are more critical (Gmail most notably) are missing....for the huge download this oversight is really hard to fathom. 748Mb and no Gmail included? Also missing Android Webview.....kind of important
Instead all the stuff i normally weed out by never selecting it in Aroma G-Apps or usign the debloat magisk module if its built into a ROM is included...Device Health/Digital Wellbeing, and the google search app among them...if i wanted active spyware, id install it....instant downvote
For such a massive download, i cant see anything that would make me bother downloading further builds.
I do appreciate the dev building the ROM but, please consider leaving G-Apps up to the user, and thereby reduce the massive download size....
Update: curiously, some of my magisk modules which work on literally every other ROM ive ever used, fail on this one.....bizarre
About to test the dev's other ROM.....
Update: decided not to, apparently it has some of the same issues. Hope the dev can fix them and test before releasing next time....both ROMS cost me nearly 1.2Gb and both buggy....please test thoroughly before uploading.....
Back to RR for me again....
The best i had test at the moment, Stable, smooth, a Little bit of battery friendly, no overheating, no glitches, the only bug quiet anoying for me it's that I'm unable to activate the phone pressing the home botton, but the rest it's working nice as butter, sometimes the camera freeze taking a picture, thas a Little bit uncomfortable. nice job to all devs working on this rom.

I would also respectfully request you read my comments again. At no point did I insult you, merely highlighted the purpose of XDA forums and reiterate the nature of experimental open source software. Your response reinforces the impression of a stereotypical entitled user, you provided no "constructive" criticism at all, and resorted to threats. I pointed out how your posts could be seen as entitled and demanding and offered an alternative way of expressing your issues. That right there is constructive criticism, whereas moaning about wasted bandwidth is not. If you're not prepared to deal with buggy software and need a production grade OS, perhaps ROM testing is not for you?
To address your specific issues with Pixel Experience:
It boots, phone calls, text messages, mobile data, WiFi, sound, vibrator, touch screen all works. ROM is usable, for a given definition of 'usable' which may or may not match your expectations.
You need to understand the difference between functionality and implementation. Any decisions about GApps and which apps are or are not included is down to Henrique Silva who is the lead developer of PE. There is a good reason why certain apps are not included and that's because some phones don't have a large enough system partition to store all the GApps, so 'core' apps are installed instead. Android WebView isn't even needed if you have Chrome installed, as chromium is installed as WebView provider. Henrique is ensuring functionality on as many phones as possible. My part in this is implementation of said functionality. If WiFi doesn't function as expected or you can't make a phone call then that's up to me to fix. That's where testers come in, a lone developer fuelled by coffee and donuts couldn't possibly envisage and test for every possible use case.
I have no intention of engaging in a tit-for-tat back and forth argument with an anonymous stranger I met on the Internet. If you have something constructive to say about anything related to my implementation of these ROMS, then I'm all ears. Got any suggestions for additional features? Sure, I'll listen and perhaps maybe incorporate it if its within my means, otherwise it needs to go to the lead ROM developer. Want to engage in argument about who said what when? No thanks, got enough stress in my life as it is.
Sincerely, have a nice day. Life is too short to get into random arguments with strangers :good:

And again you insult me, among other things calling me "entitled"
You dont get to talk down to me...sorry, thats not happening, maybe when you release something without major issues you might get that privilege, but not before....
Last time, you will insult me and last time i want to hear your crap
Mate, ive flashed, contributed to, and tested more ROMs than youve had hot breakfasts
I wont be testing any more of yours given your attitude..
Especially when you totally discount the fact me asking you to actually test your releases before releasing them as in some countries like mine, bandwidth and data (especially for 700Mb+ ROMS) costs actual money. Your attitude on this, dismissing my data allowance out of hand (moaning about wasted bandwidth )is really quite insulting and rude. Its a valid criticism when its clear you havent properly tested your releases.
Good luck with your work, i wont be testing or recommending anything you release....
And quite frankly if i never come across you again, it will be too soon.....
Get over yourself, you rude self important newbie.
Congrats on being the 1st person ever on my ignore list, fool.

That's done, and in AEX there's the even the option to toggle it on/off. Builds are running, will upload shortly.

Probably because your phone uses an exynos chipset and this forum is for snapdragon variants. Try this forum instead: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development
Just installed this ROM few minutes ago, so far it's smooth and I really like the transition and system animation than LOS one. But I have some questions: does the kernel support F2FS because it seems to bootloop when installed on F2FS? And what how can I root this ROM? Magisk, SuperSU or AddOnSU from LOS?

[Fundraiser] Official LOS / AOSP development for Cozzmy13

GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED, THANKS EVERYONE!! PLEASE STOP DONATING.
Cleaned up first post as requested by XDA Moderators. Cosmin will maintain donators, profile and donation link for reference and status in the second post of this thread.
According to the XDA rules about bounty/fundraiser threads I would like to quote the following from moderator "Funk Wizard": There is absolutely NO obligation on the developers part to release a final product. Although this is what everyone wants, the entire reason for a donation drive in the first place is because it's not the easiest thing in the world to do. This means it may not even be possible in the long run. There's a great potential for hurt feelings and "bad juju" if people donate with the expectation that a final product WILL 100% be released. Donations should be seen as support towards a best-effort on the part of the developer."
THE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED. YOU CAN STOP DONATING NOW.
I've been the maintainer (and up-bringer) of devices in the past, and I'm also a member of the LineageOS team. I've worked on Mix3, Mi 6 / Mix 2, and Mi4c .
As I think a lot of people here bought this phone with the intention of being able to eventually run AOSP on it I would like to start a fundraiser for buying myself the device.
The goal of the fundraiser is to buy myself a Mi 9, which will be used for developing a stable device tree and kernel, and eventually providing official LineageOS builds.
I'll update the status of the fundraiser as quickly as possible.
Donation link (please mention Mi 9 fundraiser): https://www.paypal.me/demon0000
Github profile: https://github.com/Demon000
A few other notes:
- As soon as goal is met fundraiser will be stopped and I will request to close this thread.
- If the goal will not be met within a certain time and you feel like you "wasted" your donation, feel free to PM me.

Nobody is obligated, it is completely voluntarily. I see where you're coming from though
To a lot of people a few euros isn't much, but for Cosmin buying this phone is quite a lot of money (and simply not a possibility within the blink of an eye). He will have to to spend a lot of time and effort which will probably make it a well worth voluntarily gift if you bought this phone for AOSP.
