weird charging problem on Galaxy Note 20 5g SAM-N981B - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Questions & Answers

Hi
It has been a few days that i have faced a weird problem with my phone.
My phone suddenly stopped charging with fast chargers and only works with super fast chargers.
When connected to any charger other than super fast charger, the charge drops instead of rising. When i connect a super fast charger, it charges fine. But sometimes gets 95% and some times gets 100%. If i reconnect the superfast charger, the phone wont even show charging. Must switch to normal charger or wireless charger and switch back to super fast charger in order for it to work.
Being on or off does not affect the results.
Wireless charging works fine.
Due to the conflicting results, I can not guess the cause of the problem.
Whether the problem is from the battery, Main board, charging socket, or software or malware, i cant figure it out.
Any suggestions?

Best I can suggest is clean your type c port with a sewing needle. These ports get trash in them everyday very easily then packed in.
The bottoms of these ports are metal not plastic. Shiny silver metal. If it's dark black or anything other. Its dirty and your cord is not being inserted all the way due to the trash compacted in. I have seen this on a regular basis and 9 out of 10 times this is the cause

Hi, did you find a resolution to this?
My Samsung Note 20 is doing the exact same thing.
It will not charge with the normal charger.. I have to first charge it a bit with the wireless charger and then with the normal charger. As of this morning, the wireless charging is also intermittent.
Thanks.

Hello
Unfortunately, I have found no solution for this. I have sent the phone to service center. Since they have not said anything yet, i guess it is not a software or even a known problem. It is definitely a serious hardware problem.

I am having the exact same issue here as well. I plug it into a normal charger and the battery continues to drain. A lightening charger is the only thing giving it juice.

Will it recognize the super fast charger when you immediately disconnect and reconnect it?

Yes superfast charging is not the problem at all. Its when I plug in a normal charger, it will say its charging but it doesnt.

Well if factory resetting does not solve the problem, don't waste your time for a solution. It is a faulty hardware. Go to Samsung service center instead. The will probably replace the motherboard or the phone.

Reasons for battery icon flashing/blinking while charging

Donno if its the regular case of 'bad usb port'. It's happening only when I'm charging with specific car charger (1A, output 5V) sometimes its charging fine, sometimes I notice its stop charge and the icon of battery is blinking/flashing...
I've tried to clean the usb cable and port from dust, maybe the cable got some dust into it?
Also I've notice that the temperature of device goes down to 22°C when its happening...
At any other chargers (include othe car chargers and other wall chargers) there is no problem at all...
What could be the reason of this specific car charger (it used to work without any problem the last few months ago)?
High/Low voltage? Dust?
maybe other problem with my device? (Battery/something else)
BTW - when I plug the charger out when its happening its stop blinking.
could you please give us a screenshot?
Do the blow thing

From reading your post, it only happens with that one charger....any other charger works as expected?
That being the case.....it ain't your phone or the USB port/board in the phone.....
Chargers DO fail, and from my experience, dc to dc step down transformers and circuitry (the type in your car charger) have a higher failure rate than their ac to dc (mains) equivalents. ....
Time to buy a new car charger methinks

@wishmas7er - which screenshot mate? when its happens all I see is blinking/flashing battery icon, without any other message or something else about it.
@keithross39 - correctly mate, all other charger (any kind of them) works just fine.
Yeah seems like its the car charger problem, just first time i've notice it...
Thanks!
BTW - the reason of 'bad touch' while charging with some generic chargers is because higher amperage then should be to this device's battery? or other reason?
As long as the amperage is not ludicrously high or low, the only noticeable difference would be the charge time.....other than that there should be no noticable effect....

Battery Icon Flashing with Samsung Galaxy S4 Car Charger
I had the same problem charging my Galaxy S4 in the car. AC charging works fine but when plugged into the DC car charger the battery indicator icon flashed rather than showing the lightning bolt.
I purchased a higher voltage DC charger adapter, same symptom.
Finally I swapped out the USB-to-micro cable and now it works fine. I suspect that in the car the phone gets jarred over time and it wears down the micro-USB connector.
It's not just you fella........
The micro USB socket idea is (imo) a pathetically fragile arrangement for what the manufacturers intend it to do. I've repaired two phones with worn out sockets, and judging by what I am reading on XDA, it is an issue that is getting more and more common.........

So I'm experiencing the same blinking problem with my note 4. Each time the lightning icon blinks the phone vibrates in sync with it. And ithe galena with all charges. I have to keep unplugging and replugging ...and OCCASIONALLY it charges. I don't know what's the problem

I have same problem with my nexus 4.
After some googling I came across an app called Ampere.
This app tells you how much rate of current your battery is charging at.
So what i found is that when phone gets old the battery doesnt hold up charge as before. So the charge rate becomes slow. The nexus charger is rated at 1Amp and at the time of charging is able to provide low current than the rate at which the battery is draining. So the Android gets confused between charging and discharging.
For eg: if phone is charging at 300mA and draining at 350mA.
Also the battery draining rate is constantly changing. So when its greater than charging rate phone shows discharging and if less : charging...
Fix: There are three fixes which i can think ...
1) Get a higher Amp rated charger...
2) while charging close most of apps , dont play games , switch to a lower gen network like 2g , close wifi , close data which will reduce the discharge rate of the battery.
3) Get a new battery.
So I'm experiencing the almost the same blinking problem with my note 4. Each time the lightning icon blinks the phone vibrates in sync with it. It won't come on it won't reboot I've tried everything BUT replace the battery because if I plug it up it'll vibrate and blink but nothing else works. It's completely black when it's unplugged.

battery drains while phone is in use while charging help

can anyone help me fix my phone. my phoine is S3 using foxhound rom 2.5 i charge my phone. use it for messaging or playing a bit but my battery drains. i doesnt happen before. its only now that my battery drains while charging... im using my AC outlet charger.
Try another charger and lead first.
Try another USB cable. Samsung cables are known to be of bad quality. If the charger + USB cable doesn't work, then most probably your charging port is not functioning. I had the same problem with my phone, gave it to the service center and the phone started charging again.
You can even try blowing air in the port. Sometimes dust gathers in there and that prevents the phone from charging.
Hope I helped.

[Q] Fast charging not working

I tried to charge my S6 Edge with the Samsung fast charger that comes in the box but noticed that it charges my phone really slowly. When I plugged my M7's charger to the S6, it showed an estimated 2hr charge time, but when I connected the fast charger, it showed a 5hr estimated charge time. I noticed that it was taking forever to charge.
Anybody else seen this issue? What should be my steps to get it replaced? I bought the phone from BestBuy.
Thank you.
can you post screenshot?
Does it show "fast charging" along with the 5 hours time or not? If it does is probably the charger. If it doesn't it probably the phone. Take it back to best buy to verify.
I have one "Advanced Fast Charger" that will not inspire either of my two S6 Edge phones to report that they are fast-charging.
The other three I have all will, and with all four cables.
The one that won't, doesn't no matter which of the four cables is used.
I contacted Samsung and got an RMA for it. Even though I gave them the part-number for the accessory travel-charger, they insisted that I go to the "menu" on the charger and give them a six-digit code.
I suggested several times that the charger had no menu, but the (web-chat person) kept asking for it. Finally I told them the menu on the charger wasn't working either so I couldn't give them their 6-digit code, and that seemed to be enough for them to issue the RMA.
They tell me that it will take about two weeks to get it replaced. But that's OK, because my S6 Edge phone stopped auto-rotating today (two days after my 14-day window to return it) and that will also take two weeks to "repair" - so I won't be needing the charger anyway.
GO SAMSUNG!

I notice this when I use the fast vehicle charger from Verizon that is specifically meant to be used with this phone. It sometimes tells me 6 hour until full and then randomly it will display "fast charging" like it is supposed to and like it does when I use the wall charger. No rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes, it fast charges and sometimes it doesn't. I know it has to do with whether the phone is in use and if the screen is on, so I turned the phone off to test and it still didn't fast charge. Any ideas??

Were you able to find an answer about this? My old Note 4 used to charge really fast with my car charger, now my new S6 Edge is detecting my car charger as USB, and it's really slow to charge.

I ended up exchanging the charger for a new one and now it works fine. The first one must have been defective. I have the Verizon charger with fast charge technology.

I had the same issue. Used another USB cable and it worked fine. Apparently some of the cables they're shipping with the fast charge adapter aren't working right. Going to cause them headaches.
Posted my experience here.

I just started experiencing the same. I'm about to take it back to T-Mobile and see if they'll issue me a new something...right?

Slow charging with phone turned On

Hello dear fellows- i am facing a very strange issue on my lg g5 (850).
I have a third party charger (Aukey QC 2.0) with a usb A to Usb Type C cable. This charger never failed me once on any of my Samsung phones. Quick charging always worked as it should but with lg g5 its charging speed is very slow. According to Ampere app its just 310 mA. After connecting this charger it even shows fast charging notification but fast charging is not there.
Today i've decided to charge it after turning it off completely and guess what... It was charging really fast as it should while turned On.
Now i am confused whether it's LG's software which is preventing 3rd party cables/chargers to charge fast while turned On or is it something else.
Any input guys or similar experience?

It's always possible an app is using a lot of battery while you're charging. So the phone charges slower. Question though, why don't you just use the provided charger from LG?

Unfortunately, the LG charger was lost last week during my travel so by chance I had this Aukey charger lying around which is Quick Charge 2.0 supported so i am trying to accomplish the original results with it until i'll get my hands on a QC 3.0 compatible charger.
Hm, my Aukey Quickcharge car charger even works fine with my phone.
Make sure you aren't using the phone while charging it, it will always charge much slower.
I have some doubts on my data cable. Will try to swap it with another one and will test again.

I can confirm that the LG software does not prevent fast charge with 3rd party chargers and cables.
I'm using a 3rd party QC 3 charger with a 3rd party cable, and fast charging is working just fine when phone is powered on.
And in Battery Monitor Widget I can see that it actually is fast charging and is using QC 3 to throttle charging amperage.
However I've experienced a couple of times, when changing cable in the charger, that it wouldn't fast charge. It was solved by removing the cable from the charger and connect it again, and then it works just fine afterwards.

Right now i only have QC 2.0 charger but i will try to arrange QC 3.0 charger soon to remove any of my doubts.

Seems like slow charging has something to do with the heat/temperature of the battery or overall phone. If i try to charge it when the battery temps are around 30 then it charges really fast but if the temp is above 30 then software somehow restricts the fast charging to avoid any damages.
I am not sure if the above analysis is valid but my observation has lead me to this point only so far.

I learned 2 things from my testing using ampere and a drok USB current meter:
First, ampere isn't really that accurate when it comes to this phone and charging currents. It was consistently about 200mah off.
Secondly if the phone is even somewhat warm, it will limit the charge current to ~300 mah with the screen on. However if you turn the screen off, it returns to full charging speed (1.8 amps in the case of my charger) I think it is some sort of thermal throttle to keep the battery from getting too hot.

That really is frustrating. I always see fast charging when plugged in, although it definitely is not fast at all if you are using it or have the screen on .
Are you plugged into a wall outlet directly? Not an extension cord? Sounds like a warranty replacement may be in order, it's possible there's something faulty with your USB C connector.
Have I not voided warranty with unlock? thanks
Tried with xiaomi charger and it works, no joy with original.
Must be faulty lg charger using same cable
I have LG G4 and I was facing the exact same problem. The phone would charge very slow while screen was on. Once I let the screen go off the phone charged at the expected rate. It seems LG is incorporating some serious throttling in their phones.

I think you can not fast charge while the phone is turned off. Maybe someone can start another thread where we can compare battery logs because this will help to see the amount of time used for charging. Is there any way of seeing if the device is using QC 2 or 3?
LG G5 on 7.0
I just got a Warranty phone because of GPS pins lost contact with case. Now I'm getting the slow charge message. I just found if I flipped the USB C over it fast charges. Just thought I would share though doubt y'all wouldn't have learned this by now with all of the testing you've done already.

I experienced that too. Isn't it strange?
Also, I experience with some chargers, the phone will just start charging for some seconds and then act as if the cable was unplugged and then start charging again. I don't know why. Anyone experiencing this too? In this case, it didn't help to flip the cable...
So disappointed with my G5 now.
Was great to start with now it's slow charge. Got new batteries but the same. Will charge off till about 5/6% then switch on. Lovely phone now just useless. Even got the phone and amp modules. Lol

This is a problem with the make of the charger. I have some Choetech QC chargers, and the programming in the QC is faulty. Some safety mech kicks in, turns off the charger, then turns back on again, over and over. I have some Tronsmart chargers and there is no issue. Of course, the OEM LG one works fine too.

Fast charge/ Quick charge problem

Alright I have a weird problem my fast charge / Quick charge is no longer working anymore it only says charging . I have checked to see if it was the charging adapter and cable and both of them are fine because they were fast charging my Note 4. Only 3 things I can think of that might be the problem well 4
1. The charging port is faulty and needs replaced
2. The battery is faulty
3. The processor is messed up but unlikely because it is working fine
4. Something in the system is keeping it from fast charging/ Quick charge
Does anyone have a idea what might be wrong with it ? My phone will normal charge fine it just will not fast charge anymore
Thanks
Might be the cable. Have you triend a different one?
The Charger needs to communicate with the phone before it switches to fast charging mode. If your cable is broken and communication is not possible it will not fast charge.
This is the reason a charge on cable (without the two data wires) will never work for fast charge.

like I said in the above post it is not the cable and I have tried multiple ones still does not work but when I use the same lg fast charge adapter and cable on my galaxy note 4 it fast charge and even when in use the Samsung fast charge and adapter on my v10 does not work but does work on the note 4.
This happens to me too...I just unplug charger from wall and back in, after that it's all good. I think in my case problem is because charger stays in wall non-stop.

Fast charge
I have had the same problem. At first I replaced the battery didn't help so I ordered a new OEM charger. It worked until tonight. I thought I'll give it a little smack on the table. I plugged it back up and now it fast charges just fine. I'm going to try the same on the other charger.

you can check this:
1. Make sure your device is fresh, not too hot because the thermal sensors inside the phone if detect the battery too hot, the charger dont activate fast charging.
2. Make sure the cable you use is good enough, i mean not so flimsy or thinner, it must be fatter because the current fast charge use.
3. If that i say above is right then plug the fast charge into the socket and plug it to your phone, if with in 10 seconds the round circle of fast charging dont appear on battery icon then unplug the charger and plug it again until it ativate fast charging.
its a common problem i have too,, i use the original charger and cable who came with the phone and even the phone are cooler and so on sometimes fast charge dont ativate at first attemp.
