Question Xiaomi Mix 4 root and other questions - Xiaomi Mi MIX 4

Hello, I'm about to buy this phone from tradingshenzen and i have question for you, does anybody successfully rooted this device? I'm planning to unlock bootloader there to install xiaomi.eu and root it, without root it's hard to use device personally for me. Is root possible for today? How long we have to wait to unlock bootloader? 72h or 8days? And when twrp will be available does flashing it delete user data? Thanks for replies

my unlock wait time is 7 days, flashed to EU developer weekly rom and rooted it with magisk patched boot image. did not manage to flash unofficial TWRP though always endup in with recovery_a partition not found. guess that have to wait till official TWRP is out.

Thank you for your reply, quite long unlock time, anybody know why Mi does it? (It's still better than no option to unlock bootloader - for me no option to buy that type of device)
Did you used this metod: https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html with patching boot.img?

Since the Mi Mix 4 is an A/B-Device, you will never ever find a recovery-partition.
I wanted to report, that if you update your rom, you will loose the Magsik SAR.

Well aware that the device is an A/B, no recovery partition. There is report of user success fully flashing unofficial TWRP using some Chinese tool (yet to find that tool). Maybe that tool flashes the recovery to the inactive boot partition.
I use to use the Mi9 which is an A/B device which I am able to flash TWRP.

Don't they offer to ship it with Xiaomi.eu installed on it already?

Yes, they do however you need to pay for it and wait another two weeks (roughly).

I bought version with CN system and unlocked, rooted and installed Xiaomi.eu by myself, it's quite easy, i prefered to get phone and start using it earlier even with cn miui

Don't flash sMIUI if you've unlocked bootloader by the unofficial way

Just a heads up. I've got my RMP since today. As a usual nexus user as I was, the first thing was to unlock the bootloader and flash whatever I can. My destination was -> unlocked bootloader -> smiui with root.
What happened it the following:
1) I unlocked my bootloader following guides (unofficial way)
2) Installed TWRP
3) Flashed SMIUI
And welcome brick. I was in emergency port (9003), and the only way to get the device running was the disasembe way. Well it worked. Now I'm on 7.2.3 with root, but guys - watch what you are flashing. This is my 3rd device (Desire HD, Nexus 4, and now RMP), and this was the first time that I had such a headaches.
SMIUi contains the locked bootloader file, so if by any chance you decide to unlock it by the unofficial way - don't flash it.
Read...read....read and one more time read there are many threads explaining how to do it without getting bricked .
Yup already lernt my lesson. Deleting emmc_appsboot.mbn from the archive before flashing is the right way.
Anyway, SMIUI is totally unusable on our devices. Flashed 6.4.21 and 6.4.14 - on both of them I get no sim/no wifi. Can't connect the device to the PC in file transfer mode also. Now I'm running xiaomi.eu 6.4.21 without issues.

Hello ktomov,
I made the same mistake. I couldn’t wait 10 days for the official unlock so I used the unofficially unlocked bootloader. Then I flashed TWRP and a Xiaomi EU ROM thinking that it’s probably gonna be OK since that’s not an official Xiaomi ROM. Nope! Bricked my device and had to use the testpoint method.
Now my question for you is what to do if want to flash a Xiaomi EU ROM again in case I don’t get the official unlock permission (is it even possible that I don’t get it?). Do I just need to replace the emmc_appsboot.mbn in the ROM’s ZIP file? I’m asking because there is a huge thread on this forum on how to maintain future OTA updates with unofficial unlock and I’d rather just stick with a TWRP-compatible ROM.
just refer to this thread if you flash anything on a unofficially unlocked bloader and ALWAYS DELETE emmc_appsboot.mbn
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/creating-modified-boot-img-enabling-adb-t3359916
oh and as far as sMiui goes, dunno bout you, but it worked for me. it lags like hell, but it works. I had no issues with sim/wifi, and as far as MTP mode goes, disable adb in developer opts, that will trigger MTP mode. kinda annoying, but should work. same thing is happening on xiaomi eu and global roms too.

Thanks. That should make sure I don’t hardbrick my phone and retain access to EDL mode. But my question is whether replacing the emmc_appsboot.mbn is all I need to do when flashing a TWRP compatible ROM. No other scripts or changes are necessary?

Don't know what is going on with those roms, but for me sMiui 6.4.14 and 6.4.21 gives no-sim/no-wifi. Disabling dev still didn't got me to mtp. Haven't got such issues with xiaomi.eu roms though. 6.4.14 and 6.4.21 works like they should.

So if you have unlocked the bootloader the unofficial way is there any way to flash a locked bootloader later on if for example you wish to give in you phone for repair at the service center?

[How to] Revert to Stock MIUI ROM?

I'm currently on CyanogenMod, If I flash the global stable version through Mi Flash, will I continue to get ota updates and it won't brick my device??
Device : Redmi Note 3 SD
Choose the flash all option, it will clear out all existing (user)data on your device. In my experience, this will not brick the phone, but I'm not too sure about the OTA updates.
Best wait for someone who actually knows their stuff.

of course you'll receive ota updates.
clean flash via miFlash will relock the bootloader again and twrp will be replaced by stock recovery.
so, ota will work fine

You did roll back from CM to Miui via miflash? If so, you did chose a certain option (e.g. "flash all"), to ensure to get a real factory reset? I am facing the same situation actually.
Additional information, I unlocked my bootloader unofficially, which may cause problems with OTA updates, as I read. If you got a link to a fitting "roll back guide" including the unoffical unlocked bootloader, would appreciate that or an update to your efforts.

From which CM version to which Miui version you have restored?
And you have selected flash all option?
You have flashed in EDL mode or normal faatboot mode?

Somebody got any idea, why I cannot flash MIUI properly? I booted the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition in Fastboot, it is recognized by windows and the miflash tool properly (used the same configuration to go to CM), I downloaded
Redmi Note 3 Special Edition Latest Global Developer Version Fastboot File Download &
Redmi Note 3 Special Edition Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download
and tried both folders with the "clear all" option. It says it went fine and the green success message appears, but the process just took 0.5 to 1 seconds and if I restart the phone, CM boots with initialising the apps. I used CM13 with unofficial unlocked bootloader. Would appreciate any tips.

Redmi note 3 stuck in boot animation

Hi everyone, im new to XDA. But that's kinda beside the point.
I have a Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon 650 and 2gb ram 16gb storage. I wanted to install lineage os/R.remix because im kinda bored of miui and wanted nougat. I did the following steps to install.
1. Unlocked bootloader via no-permission or hack method.
2. Installed TWRP latest as of 10-6-2017 thru Fastboot.
3. Wiped cache,dalvik and data
4. Flashed R.Remix nightly 10-6-17 and then Gapps.
In this step, I had a problem. It was giving me error:7 (xiaomi.verify.modem) and so I modded the rom (updater-script) and worked. It had the animation loop soflashed NON-HLOS modem binary thru Fastboot and flashed the original signed ROM. But, the problem persists. It's stuck in the boot animation and looping infinitely. I left it for 30min-1hr and still loops. What do I do now? Please help me in this regard. Till then, MIUI again

Don't flash that miui firmware from post above, it will relock your bootloader because you are not officially unlocked.
Best way to go is to flash latest global dev fastboot rom, unlock officially. This way you will have no problems with flashing nougat custom roms.
So, should I install the latest global developer rom? I checked yesterday it was v7.6.7 while latest global stable was 8.2.4 which I have currently installed. I also checked via fastboot OEM device-info and, yeah, bootloader locked.:crying: So, I should install the dev. Rom and ask for permission and then unlock, like, the official way? I'm waiting for the reply. Make it clear and I'll try it. Thnx.
Edit : I also somehow got TWRP uninstalled:crying::crying: I don't know if this unexpected or was doomed to happen but yeah, again, just saying.
I just asked for permissions to unlock and..... Surprise!!! I got the permission in 5 minutes!!!
I feel kinda sad for the people who are waiting for more than 21 days...

This MI Flash gets stuck at 99% even tho I got permissions (an SMS from MI) and shows current account not bound to device. What do I do? I also tried binding my account to phone by settings-->dev. options-->mi unlock which gave code 86012 and some Chinese characters which I honestly can't understand. I also tried installing global dev and doing the same thing but gives same 86012 and Chinese. Plzz help me in this regard. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Need help with updating to Android N - RN4X SD

Hey guys! I just recently got my Mido and It has been updated to the latest Global Stable rom. I tried to unlock my bootloader but I'm getting the message that binding time is too short and I need to wait up to 68 hours. That's not a problem. I can wait. But I just have a one quick question though. Can I go and flash the latest Global Developer rom thru fastboot mode with the MiFlash Tool which has been updated to the Android version N without unlocking my bootloader? Or can I flash the latest Global Developer rom thru the Updater app with my bootloader still lock? I hope someone can help me out. Nope. To go to developer roms you need an unlocked BL.
Don't listen to them.
If you are on global stable you can flash global developer with a locked bootloader.
You should flash 7.2.16 first because you won't be able to flash never ones first. Download the recovery version and flash it through the updater app from within miui.
Be careful tho because this WILL wipe your internal storage.
After you installed 7.2.16 use the updater app to download the newest 7.7.6 rom and you are all set.

Hey mate! I really appreciate your info.. I tried to do this.. I was almost there, just a click away of being able to switch to global developer rom. But I accidentally clicked on Cancel instead of the Erase and Proceed to update button on the updater app. So I tried it again, but it doesn't give me that option anymore to flash it, the next thing I know it keeps saying I cannot upgrade from an unofficial rom package. I am so stupid. I missed my only chance of beinh able to switch to developer rom. I even tried doing a factory reset but still it's telling me the same error. Is there anyway I can get that option again? Coz at the first attemp, it even prompts me of decryption.. but now no more. Just can't update with 7.2.16 because it is from an unofficial rom package.

Mate please read my previous reply. You might be able to help me out. Apart from 7.2.16 is there any other rom that I can try to be able to switch to developer rom? I never imagine it's gonna be this hard. I had 4 xiaomi devices already before this. I can't believe Xiaomi is gonna make this very very hard as time goes by.
Clean cache of the updater app, close it and thentry again to flash the rom.
This is the one because it's based on Android 6. That's why you can flash it and then update to 7 via the updater app on the phone itself.

If you have the Pie update from firmware finder it's an approved ROM unless you have a modified recovery it checks and you wouldn't be able to install it if it wasn't approved so you probably have the latest approved ROM

Hi! Quick question. My BLA-L09 is on build number 8.0.0.131(c782). I'm rooted with Magisk via Pretoriano's TWRP using the all in one tool. I can't receive firmware updates because of this (they fail to install).
If I update to Pie, will I be able to root again with Magisk? How can make this update? I suppose I would need stock recovery back and don't know where to get it from it how to flash it. It was my first time doing this on a Huawei, I'm used to Samsung devices. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Nope, you won't. Any version from 8.0.0.146 and above will contain the new bootloader which won't let you unlock it or install twrp, magisk or whatever, most probably you will brick your phone like I did.
You'll be a lot safer to stay on what you're on. Huawei did a nifty development to make life miserable to anyone which likes to customize their phone. Maybe they should be called Huapple from now on...
I was in a similar situation as you, 141 if I remember correctly. Installed Xposed via magisk, got a bootloop, did a system restore via erecovery, got it working again and lost magisk/root so thought it would be the time to do the ota, didn't know about the bootloader change so found I was on emui 9, tried to install twrp but that bricked the phone. So I tried to do the system restore via erecovery again, but that didn't work.
After that tried every possible way (inc. paying funkyhw etc.) to recovery the phone, no way. If you try to downgrade it to a version before 146 it will hardbrick leaving you with a paperweigth.
So if I were you, I wouldn't touch a thing. I gave up and am waiting for my Oneplus 6, much better phone for this stuff.

Thank you for the info! And what about staying on my current bootloader and flash a custom ROM on my already installed TWRP?

There is a ResurectionRemix rom that can be used for that. Just search for RR-O-v6.0.0-20180402-bkl-OpenKirin.zip it should work as this one's flashable by twrp. I haven't tried it so can't tell if it does. I have the file but I don't know if it's complete as it only contains system.img which seems strange as normally there would also be a boot.img or at least a kernel.img
