My Pixel does not record audio from external microphones, anymore. There's always a very loud static noise in the background. I replaced many parts and the only option left is to replace the motherboard.
But then I thought "what if I could connect a microphone or headset to the USB port?"
So is there any USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter that works with the Pixel?
If you're curious about whether or not if this works, I can confirm that it does. I used my Pixel 3 USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter along with a headset w/ mic and record my own voice to see if it would work and I was able to record my voice. I didn't make a call with it since I don't have a SIM card in the device.

I want to make up a lead to connect Qtek9090 to my car stereo's 3.5mm audio jack socket, but cannot find anywhere that sells the connector for the qtek (which has 4 conductors). Any ideas? thanks

DON'T BUY THIS ADAPTER... unless you have an extra 2.5mm mic (cell handsfree set) to plug into the smaller jack shown on photo (the bigger jack is for the 3.5mm audio plug). This adapter WILL DISABLE YOUR XDA IIs MICROPHONE and route it to the 2.5mm microphone jack (cellphone handsfree set).
BUY THIS ONE INSTEAD --> http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=118289 It won't disable your XDA IIs microphone. It only routes audio to the 3.5mm jack. Your built in XDA IIs microphone will still work

I'm looking for a extUSB to 3.5mm adapter, but not the common kind that allows you to plug in stereo headphones or has a microphone built inside the adapter. I'm looking for an adapter that allows you to plug in stereo headsets with in-line microphones. These headsets are designed for iPhones and BlackBerrys and has a 3.5mm connector with an extra ring to support the microphone, and I'm hoping to find an extUSB adapter that supports 3.5mm connectors with three rings so the microphone would work. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Thanks.
I use this one. It's kind of big but it is the only i can find that I am able to use my iphone headphones with inline mic. After cupcake came out the adapter stopped working but is now working with cyanogen's rom. I would love to find another smaller one that will work with an inline mic.

mine never broke. only time it didn't work was in OTA cupcake
I have this same HTC usb to stereo with mic adapter and have used it with Cyan 4.04, Cyan 41x, and all the Hero Roms and had no problems. I use both Blackberry earpieces w/ mic and a cheapo earpiece w/ mic. I like way better than the regular HTC usb adapter and earbuds.

this might be a stupid question, but would the HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter allow you to use a headset that comes with a mic, or would you have to use a earpiece along with an inline microphone?

Great adapter and good build quality too (it has rubbery coating on the cable and it doesn't feel/look cheap unlike some adapters with this style). Great for driving headset since it already has built-in mic. You can use any headphones you want, even though I think the original pair that comes with it performs quite well. The downside is that there's no manual volume control on it, but I can live with that.

I can charge, but the 3.5 and 2.5 jacks are dead. They neither work as outputs or inputs. If I plug an EXtUSB to 3.5 adapter into the EXTUSB headset port on the OEM adapter, the phone's microphone is disabled.
I really want an adapter that can be used to connect, via 3.5 wire, to the car stereo, and still be able to use the phone's microphone, or be able to plug in an external microphone for hands-free use.

I have a similar setup, I discovered yesterday on the way home a way to get audio through the 3.5mm jack. This is a convoluted way, but it did work.
1. I had my OEM adapter plugged in
2. I plugged in my OEM headset to the headset jack
3. I plugged in the 3.5mm adapter into the 3.5mm jack
4. Started the music player
The sound came through both the headset and the car radio, unplugged the headset and the sound continued to play through the radio. Once the 3.5mm jack is unplugged, the process will need to be repeated. I hope this helps.

I have the official Samsung cardock, and connected it to my car radio (the cardock has a 3.5mm jack output). Nice, now I can listen to the music on my phone over my carspeakers!
BUT:
Whenever I make or receive a call, the sound of the conversation keeps channeling through the phone's own external speaker. Disabling the phone's external speaker (either during the call or beforehand) does not fix it. It just néver get's through the 3.5mm jack output to my car stereo. Annoying, since my car is pretty loud when speeding.
[Q]How to channel the audio of a voicecall to the jack-output? Does anybody know of a fix for this? I have looked around-and-around-and-around, and have asked this before. Just can't believe I'm the only-one that is bothered by this!

I have a std aux input into my car stereo. Plugging a stereo 3.5 lead from the phone jack into the stereo aux I can listen to all sounds from the phone over all car speakers including calls... Just like when a headset is connected. Calls go over car speakers and phone mic picks up voice.
It would seem then that its the official samsung dock being treated different to a simple direct lead connection.
My only gripe is during calls the phones mic works but thinks its on a std call and is a bit weak. Wish I could force the mic into speakerphone mode or the levels associated with that mode anyway. Btw... Turning on speakerphone while lead is connected stops the output over the speakers.
I have a trrs mic / stereo splitter adapter and a seperate car 3.5 mic but again the mic levels on the phone in headset mode need boosting.

Hmm... So maybe if I use a splitter to merge the signal from both the cardock AND the phonejack...

Just note I do not 'need' the splitter to make it work. Without a splitter it works just fine using car speakers and the phones mic (as the aux lead is std audio lead only - not including the third ring position for the mic).
I just got the splitter to use a seperate external mic in the car. The splitter simply has all 3 rings to make phone think its a full headset connected like the set that comes in the box with the phone and splits audio and mic into 2 seperate connections. This way I then take the std aux lead from the audio split to the stereo for listening over the car speakers and use the mic split for plugging in any std 3.5 external mic.

I understood that, it's just that I would probably need a splitter in my specific situation, since all my music gets played through the cardock by default as soon as I plug in the phone... It's possible to disable this automatic switch of audiorouting when the phone get's plugged in though, but somehow it just doesn't feel right to NOT use the audio-out feature of the cardock
So I'm using my old Infuse car dock for the SIII. It has USB plugin along with a 3.5mm audio jack. It's not using the headphone jack. It piggybacks the 3.5mm audio out of the USB.
Anyways, I have not yet figured out how to get both bluetooth and the usb/3.5mm audio working at the same time.
Music works great coming out off the 3.5mm audio to my car stereo. But then I can't use my bluetooth microphone at the same time?
So if I want to take a call, I have to remove the phone from the dock and answer it the old fashioned way.
Some of the 3.5mm headphone jacks are TRRS, which allow for a headphone/microphone combination, i.e. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Stereo-Headset-Microphone-Smartphones/dp/B008PXMWIW. I want to use this with my Huaweii Prism; the internal microphone that comes with the Prism is terrible. If I buy a TRS to TRRS adapter, will the microphone work (be compatible)?
