Question Is there a tempered glass screen protector that works with the finger print scanner? - Google Pixel 6

Anyone have any luck with getting a tempered glass screen protector that works with the fingerprint scanner?
I have read several threads about this. Some suggest adding same finger twice. Some suggest increasing sensitivity of the screen, and others suggest making sure you are up to date. None of this has worked for me. It is double disappointing for me as I have large thumbs and never could seem to get a thumb unlock to work until the 6. Once I added the screen protector, the phone can not recognize the finger print, even though I added it several times.
I purchased this one https://www.amazon.com/Milomdoi-Goo...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
It claims to work with finger print scanner. I followed their instructions, but no luck so far.

I have noticed that some manufacturers are adding "does not support finger print scanner" to their listings now.
This one claims to work with finger print scanner, but it is not tempered glass: https://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-Mi...J,B09FF4R924,B095MDT35P&srpt=SCREEN_PROTECTOR

I have the SuperShieldz TmGlss, added thumb once, index finger 3 times. turned up sensitivity. Thumb rarely works, finger works as well as my outgoing Sammy S9, which is acceptable.

I bought the same one, its too thick for sure. I picked up the one linked below (unfortunately out of stock now) and you could tell it was thinner and I been able to make the finger print scanner work but registering my thumb multiple times.
This is the glass I got to work with the sensor:
[3-Pack]-Mr.Shield Designed For... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097R75JP1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have the Zagg Invisible shield on mine and it works well with the fingerprint reader.

I have ordered a couple different ones, including Zagg. Will see which one works.

I purchased this if you'd like to try - https://amzn.to/2ZB7zpm
It's not tempered glass but works just fine with my fingerprint scanner. It comes with two protectors and I was able to install first time with no bubbles or imperfections.
I use my thumb and haven't had any issues.

I got the TAURI tempered glass (from Amazon) and have no issues with the FP reader.

I don't see the Pixel 6/6 Pro device selection on Zagg's website. Where did you get your screen protector?

Here is what I ordered:
Glass Elite
Advanced Impact Protection with Anti-microbial Treatment that Protects the Screen Protector
www.zagg.com

This is what I bought. Works perfectly fine with the fingerprint scanner.
https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Google-Pixel-Protector-Installation/dp/B095YTTR3Y/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=L%CF%9FK+5+Pack+Screen+Protector+for+Google+Pixel+6&qid=1635762195&sr=8-3
Edit: Aaaaand out of stock. Lol

They upped their price now because of XDA/reddit lol.
I ordered it. Will report back if it works with FP scanner.

I always put Brotect screen protectors on my devices so I'm confident that one will work with the fp scanner no problem.
I used it on 6T which had a notoriously bad sensor and I'm still using it to this day without issue.
Brotect "airglass". Mine will arrive in a day or two so I'll update here after I've applied it.

I just ordered the privacy version of this screen protector and can tell you that the fingerprint doesn't read. I'm not sure if it the screen protector itself or the tinted privacy aspect of it.

wow, just got mine dropped off at my front porch. 12.99 to 16.99. and it was temporarily out of stock and now ships in two to three weeks.
edit: just replaced my previous one with this. Quite a bit better (but only paid $6 for three of the other one - no complaints). The camera hole is not too small as previous one and it covers just a tiny bit more of the sides of the screen and definitely more of the top and bottom. Works better with gestures.
Oleophobic coating is better than the cheaper ones I used. Feels great. A lot less smudging and fingerprints on this one.
Fingerprint works the same still. Guess it's the same thickness as the one I just trained.
Overall I can recommend this one.
The one I don't recommend is called
apiker 3 Pack
One funny part is that label when I unpacked the LϟK one.

edited post above. Yes. It works without retraining and I must assume it's the same thickness as the cheaper one I used before. I have no problems with the FP scanner, but I understand that it is very finicky, have been there with a number of other phones myself - e.g. S21 Ultra or OP 8 Pro

Received my Zagg screen protector before any of the others. Installed. Finger print scanner works fine with Zagg screen protector and my Pixel 6.
Not excited about the Zagg case as it does not have much of a lip, but one battle at a time!

I purchased and installed the OMOTON screen protector (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B096M9HVX1) on two Pixel 6 devices. The fingerprint readers on both devices are working just as well as when used bare.

That's a link to the Armorsuit for the 6 Pro and I'm not seeing it available in TPU for the P6 (at least in the USA); do you have a different link? That would totally be what I would buy (short of glass if one worked with the fingerprint), but doesn't seem to exist...
If you do have a link, pls provide. Thanks!

Are you sure about this? I've also noticed in some YouTube videos of users with the Rog 2 and screen protectors, it looks like none of them are wide enough to fully cover the glass screen, and some even look like they don't fully cover the image portion of the screen on the sides, especially when viewed from slight angles...
There are certain ones that take 20 mins to apply because it uses a special glue that allows the in screen finger print sensor to work. They are like $20 a piece.
I've bought mine off of Alliexpress and the Fingerprint reader works perfectly fine on my end.
Finger reader does work with any tempered glass however it's not the best reader of a fingerprint

I use either Skinomi Full body protection or Mobile Outfitters. Both have the ASUS ROG Phone II in stock.
I"m using the Mobile Outfitters myself, don't like using a case.

No it doesn't have rainbow effect but the matte one from gadgetshieldz has the rainbow effect.
The only tempered glass i tried was Nillkin's 9H Tempered glass. Its full glue. Not UV Glue or partial glue. But i removed it because it reflects too much light.

Galaxy S20 Series Screen Protectors.

What screen protectors options are available for the S20 series? Not a fan of cases as the devices are already huge and would want something thin profile and easier to hold. Tempered glass, gadget shieldz, Zagg invisible shield?
tempered glass i've tried 2 so far. the encased uhd glass protector and the olixar tempered glass. both are terrible and have the exact same flaw. for some reason they decide to put an adhesive glue on the fingerprint sensor area. it basically creates a cloudy circle in the sensor area that is horrible to look at and renders the sensor unusable. you get "dirty sensor" errors all the time. i gave up on tempered glass for the moment and went with the spigen neo film. works great, but of course it's not tempered glass...

Whitestone Dome Glass is still the best due to Ultrasonic Finger Print scanner, will likely be better with reduced curved edges this time around.
re:
purchased 2pack online using the 20% code for s20+. Used prior on s10+ and worked great. :good:
For the quality of it, the built in screen protector is already great. Tempered glass protectors are almost literally never work worth what they cost, especially for curved screen phones.
Does the S20 plus come preinstalled with a screen protector like the S10 plus?
i preordered my S20+ and im really worried about not having a tempered glass protector... are there any out that are able to work with the fingerprint sensor??

Yes
I went for a no name brand film screen protector that I also did with my S10 where you peel one side and smooth and peel another side, I saw a different company (most likely from China) with similar installation video so I went with it again. I use to go tempered glass with Nexus 6P, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 3a but this time around I went back to the film one and its been really good, don't even have to increase touch sensitivity and its hardly noticeable that I even had a screen protector outside the camera cutout. With tempered glass you can kind of tell that there is one.
Any feedback on Whitestone Dome Glass being compatible with spigen cases?
Especially rugged armor.

yup.. i have been using the WAY CHEAPER UV-adhesive stuff similar to whitestone dome glass.. works perfect..
except.. it can be a bit messy during installation..
I've had the Whitestone dome on my last 4 phones, and they're the best, bar none. Even on my s20+, there's no mushyness, rainbow effect, the fingerprint sensor works flawlessly, and it still fits my case. Theres a reason they're more expensive- its because they're legitimately good.

I ordered the spigen protectors to go with my spigen case, thinking they'd fit but sadly not, as soon as I put the case back on it peeled edges up. I've ordered some similar but I'm gonna take them to work and guillotine 2mm off the edges so they fit better hopefully

This is bad.
Usually spigen guarantees compatibility between their cases and all types of protectors.
Can you specify the models you own?

It looks like the protector doesn't cover the curved edge or is it just the picture playing tricks?
Has anyone tried the Whitestone tempered glass yet? How is case compatibility with the less curved screens? I am looking to use a quadlock case.

How does it feel? Is it smooth, or rough/tacky?
I used Zagg back when there weren't a lot of other choices, but they had an orange peel effect. I prefer tempered glass, but have't found anything for S20+ that seems worth buying.

Question Terrible finger print sensitivity with screen protector

Hi all,
Anyone having much luck with the finger print reader? Setting it up works like a charm but actually unlocking the devices 9 out of 10 times! End up having to enter the PIN instead. Just keeps saying that it's not recognised. I've tried a few fingers but really it would only be my thumbs that use it, even deleted them all and started again. I do have a Spigen screen protector on but I have that on when setting them up in the first place which like I said works OK.
Thanks

I've seen it recommended on other devices to add the same fingerprint several times (instead of fingers 1 + 2 + 3 just add the same finger/thumb for both), might be worth a try here too?

There's also a screen sensitivity setting to increase sensitivity when using a screen protector (can't remember where I found that) sadly it didn't improve things. I'll try the multiple same finger enrollment and let you know if that improves thinks for me

Right, I've turned that sensitivity thing on and added the same thumb 4 times (you can only add 5 fingers) and whilst it's not perfect it does seem better, probably works 3 out of 5 tries now.

It's even worse when trying to use your finger to unlock apps like WhatsApp.

I think the FPS is not great even without a screen protector. I am very disappoined, it all feels very 2018.
Hoping (but not confident) it can improve with software updates.

It's a known problem that screen protectors make life with an optical fingerprint scanner troublesome. There is a reason why many of us Pixel fans were stoked and happy that Google went with a decent 3D Facescan like Apple on the P4, a system that just works and one that is actually reliable. It never shut down on me, even though I had to clear the topside portion probably ~10 times in 2 years because it had trouble scanning me (because of dirt on the screen). Only "real" problem are... masks of course. Faceunlock and masks don't go well. That is why...
Imagine the Pixel 6 with face unlock AND a back-side fingerprint scanner.
That would be my dream.
It will probably remain a dream.
I've got the same problem, but my right thumb works perfectly every time. My left thumb just refuses to unlock the phone.
Guess right thumb it is...
Edit: Actually, mine seems to have settled down and now works with both thumbs equally well.

Mine will be coming in soon (Nov.10). I was wondering if anyone here has used the Oneplus 6T. I used to have that phone and for me the fp scanner was pretty reliable and quick enough, even with screen protectors. Only time there were issues was before rom developers had came up with better way of implementing it n custom roms, but after the new implementation it became faster than stock was on that phone. I also remember changing the color of the light had an effect on how well it read my finger. Green light was best, white was second best and the blue light was last in my usage.

Question Cannot get fingerprint scanner working with screen protector on

Hi, I have tried 2 different brands of glass screen protectors now, both advertised as supporting fingerprint, but i just can't register mine with them.
I have touch sensitivity turned on.
Each time i try to register my fingerprint it constantly keeps saying to try again, it had very occasionally got up to 20/30% done, but it then fails that many times that it takes me back to the start.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Regards
James
I got mine installed at a physical Samsung Experience Store. They used some machinery to perfectly fit the protector on the device. No such issue whatsoever. For all I know, you shouldn’t have any issues with the fingerprint scanner when using thin film-based screen protectors. Some tempered glass screen protectors, especially ones with UV glue may cause problems.
Glass ones have this issue(including Whitestone Dome if not applied really really well) and it's nothing new. Samsung's official plastic one is what I like.
@james_lpool If you prefer tempered glass screen protection, I would recommend this one:

Yeah but that's super expensive.
I got Amfilm , bendable plastic kind (had tempered on S22U and it was a pain) and have had zero issues with fingerprints. S pen also easily glides on it. Not too good with Spigen cases though as they have raised the case sides this year.

Well, you're paying for a high-quality glass screen protection for one of the most expensive smartphones.
Can't put cheap tires on a Ferrari
Presently I have an original Samsung film (plastic) protector fitted, so cannot comment for the S23U at the moment - but: in the past I used a Mowei protector kit for the S22U, the kit contains a weight that is put at the location of the FP sensor during curing ... this worked just fine....
i got whitestone dome glass and it works fine with my s23 ultra.
I first got Axessorize ARMORGlass, and finger print was ok, maybe 80% success rate with 4 time my finger registered. Big down side is the matt finish around the scanner.
Then simply got a gel protector. The seller told me after few month the glass protector will affect the scanner, while the gel wont.
Overall , the gel look better, but might be less safe maybe?

Which gel protector is that specifically?
Thanks for everyone's replies, after a lot of fear, hassle, and a bit of a loss of money I decided on a film protector which is working 100% fine.
Not sure if I just picked rubbish glass screen protectors, but they caused me big issues. Neither would work with fingerprint reader and because they were hard, my original case was lifting the sides of the protector a bit, meaning touch was less sensitive.
The first glass protector I tried was UV and when it came to taking this off, that was a little scary with this brand-new phone!
Trying to peel it back off was a hard job, was very stuck and was actually cracking as I was slowly lifting it off.
So now i have a different case that doesn't affect the protector and a film protector and all seems good now

Accessories Good glass protection for screen

I'm in the USA and waiting for the phone to ship to me. I need tempered or glass protection for the screen. I keep looking on amazon but all I see are reviews with switched products. any one recommends one that's not shady?

can confirm, works great
Im using the whitestone dome glass and works perfect me, I know some people do have issue with the FPS not being reliable, but I have no issues with the FPS and works perfectly fine for me.
It looks very similar to the one I have and also works great. IMBZBK.

FPS? Frames per second? How a glass on top of device screen affects FPS!!??
Yo! so I have been using my s23u naked for the last 2 months and now I think i should get a glass protector to protect the screen since this will be expensive if I drop it... I am looking for something good and worth the price, some mentioned whitestone but that is 50 USD in sweden.. any other good options you are satisfied with that costs less? I do not want to use any case since that makes this sleek device fat and ugly (no body shaming pls!) but i guess the glass protectors are cool that can save the display from one or two drops..

Not sure if you're trolling or are genuinely confused.
But just in case it's a genuine query, he means FingePrintScanner.

Ive tried a few and they are all **** or average in comparison with other brand that gives you a WELL placed protector from factory.
Ive email samsung about this BS ''save the planet so no protector nor charger '' ****, and we have to order , get ship by plane/truck , stuff, and found this is ****, and re-re-re-order.
Anyway, I got the Mowei UV glued protector, and the stikyness power is good as masking tape. If you get the phone in your pockets and the corner of the glass touch the pants, and will unstick.
Oh you think with a case it will be fine? no, cases are often soft, so they will contact the glass and unstick it.
It will create huge bubble. However, You can stick back the glass with minimal bubble left.
Protector are not only for protector the glass , but also the oleophobic coating. I use to have my phone naked, but after few years, the glass is full time greasy because it come a finger print magnet since the coating is gone.
10 days after receiving it, waiting on my Amazon protector shipment, was sitting and dropped my phone from my lap to hardwood floor .
Back top left corner had many small cracks running into the lenses

Sad story bro. I always order a Spigen case as soon as I order the phone. Cheap insurance to tide me over until the case of choice becomes available.
I used this one here and so far it's been a good experience. You get the whitestone dome quality w/o the messiness. And I'm rocking it with the Ringke Onyx Case with no lift.

Which one?
Two things I'd wish they'd do:
Stop with the curved screens. Tits on a bull!
Second, ditch the behind the screen FP reader. Put it in the power switch. Anyone that's owned a flip/fold knows how well they work.
Then we could have FLAT tempered glass screen protectors that stay put and look great for a long time.
Mous is nice, wish the carbon fiber one was in stock!
I use this when I want that naked experience and still have protection similar to a skin:

I have the same one on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and the phone fell off a chair onto a slate floor backside down and I thought for sure it was going to be a bad day. Nope, phone unscathed. Thought the case was OK too but later when I took it off it had a crack running all around the area covering the camera bump.
I got the UAG Pathfinder for the S23 Ultra, yeah it's on the bulky side but I probably could drop it down the stairs and it would be fine. ;-) That's what I use when working outside.

Its better to use a Screen Protector Film because the device has a curved screen. I really dont know if there are any good Tempered Glass for curved screen so I went with a Full-Body Screen Protector from Gadgetshieldz since they not only have Matte options but their Full-Body covers the back panel, sides, top, bottom and also the camera module. I didnt want any scratches at all so I covered my phone completely with this. Went with the Clear for the Screen and the rest were all Matte cause I love the finish.
Although, recently I wrapped my S23 Ultra with skins cause I was getting bored of the look but I still have the Clear Screen Protector on.
Im in love with the grip they provide, feels soo good on touch!
