[P][CM11] Nandroid backup error "Can't mount /data!"

Hi,
I've installed image "CM11 M12" (cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-i9100), Xposed and then I've encrypted the device.
This works all well.
However, after completion of configuration and installation of other apps, I cannot create a Nandroid backup with CWR v6.0.5.1.
After backup of /system competes, the error message displayed is: Can't mount /data!
This error persists if I try to mount /data manually before starting backup.
I've never faced this issue before, and therefore I assume it is related to the fact that the device is encrypted.
Do you have any idea why Nandroid backup fails?

Can't restore from TWRP backup, phone won't boot

A couple weeks ago my carrier, Ringplus, went out of business, so I decided to switch to Tello. I couldn't do this because I couldn't do a carrier reset on Cyanogenmod 13, so I backed up my system with TWRP Backup, restored to stock (XT1526 Surnia Boost 5.0.2), successfully did a carrier reset. Then I tried restoring back to my original Cyanogenmod 13 backup, but it won't work, after the restore is complete, the phone won't boot. When I try rebooting after the restore is done, the phone crashes at the WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED screen. It can boot into Fastboot or TWRP, but it won't boot into the restored backup.
Is there anything I can do to get my Moto E 2015 Surnia XT1526 phone to boot once I restore from my backup?

After that, the phone now doesn't boot beyond the WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED screen. I even tried leaving it on for 2 hours, and only got that screen.
I'm hoping that someone knows a way that will allow me to successfully restore from this backup, and that I won't have to flash to a new custom rom rather than restoring from my backup, since that would mean setting up the phone from scratch again.

Have you tried flashing a custom ROM? And what version recovery are you using?

I was originally using CyanogenMod 13 for Moto E LTE, found here on this forum. That's what my backup is, my CM13 system.

I tried both TWRP 3.0.0r2 and 3.0.2r5, both produced the exact same issue.

Did you try flashing back to stock? Did you try any newer roms?

I temporarily flashed back to Stock to do a carrier reset, which couldn't be done with CM13 for some reason. But flashing back to stock meant losing the apps and data and settings I had previously, so I wanted to backup using TWRP, temporarily flash back to stock and do the carrier reset, then restore back to CM13 using TWRP, so that I could keep my apps and data and settings. I flashed back to stock successfully but couldn't restore back to CM13 using the backup.

That's unfortunate man. Next time you should use titanium backup.
I switched from TWRP to OrangeFox recovery, move backup from TWRP folder to Fox folder and restored the data, then my phone can boot normally

Data corrupt after backup, failed encryption and restore

Hi,
I made a backup (system, data, boot) with TWRP on my S4 Mini. After that I wanted to encrypt my phone. This didn't go well. After the reboot I got tons of messages saying "... has stopped working". Nothing worked. After that I restored my backup.
Unfortunately some data is corrupt. I did some reading and I suspect, that the encryption process touched all files in /data/media. I didn't know that the TWRP backup does not backup files in that folder. Is this the reason why some data is lost or am I missing something else here?

Unable to decrypt Lineage OS 18.1

Hi everyone,
I have a issue with my device I wiped system cache and vendor dalvik cache but skipped data as I always do but for some reason I am unable to decrypt data after clean install of Lineage OS. Actually I wanted to remove Magisk so I just wiped those and installed same version of Lineage that was on my device. Even TWRP is unable to decrypt now. Any help is appreciated.

I have same issues as well. Did you manage to find a solution?
I tried to flash whatever LineageOS ROM was available but I was unable to decrypt as after a time I got message that the encrypted block might have been corrupted since my password was correct it can not decrypt full data and partial decryption was not possible.
I had to WIPE ALL and start afresh again. But I would suggest you to try different versions (different build dates) of Stock LineageOS ROM to try to decrypt data before you give up.
Last resort if WIPE ALL and start afresh as there is no way that I know of for partial decryption or external backup and decryption.

would you mine explain some more about WIPE ALL? Like in formatting? Because format is no used for me and I did make sure there is no password.
Wipe All means: Wiping Data + Cache + Internal Storage
(complete fresh start of ROM without anything on phone, similar to formatting all data on device or factory reset on stock decies)
Well you should only do Format data only as last resort to make phone usable since decryption is no more possible.

Well I tried everything you mentioned and nothing work. All i got is a while bunch of "error opening" "permission denied" with my internal storage. And bootloop if i install anything not Lineage based
Well installing other ROMs other than official LineageOS ROMs will not work. It seems either your storage has been corrupted like mine was.
If that is the case then formatting data and storage could be the only solution to make your phone work again, but that will mean you are starting from fresh on your phone without any data. (YOU WILL LOSE ALL ENCRYPTED DATA.)
In LineageOS you have to completely wipe data to remove encryption. There's no other way.

Question Orangefox can't wipe data: unable to mount storage

Hi, Orangefox can't wipe data, it gives me this error: unable to mount storage. I think the problem is that the data partition is somehow encrypted, but i haven't encrypted it so now I can't decrypt it because I don't have the password. I've already tried with the unlock password but it fails. I know the easy solution would be to format all data including internal storage but I would like to avoid that possibility. Do you know what can I do?
(The CrDroid rom I was installing before this problem occurred is in bootloop, so I can't access it).
Have you tried other recovery? TWRP, PE, Miui.
TWRP tells me the same thing: Unable to mount storage
I think the only solution is to format data. Is there a way to recover the files? I have no backup.
Data return is possible. Formatting must not be done and you must load the ROM from which the data came. That is, the last working ROM. After running it, then back up the data and only then try a new ROM where the data will be formatted.

How do i load the rom? I can't install it with TWRP, it says:
Devices on super may not mount until rebooting
recovery.
To flash additional zips, please reboot recovery to
switch to the updated slot.
I've tried also with OrangeFox, same error
OK, the problem was relative to the A/B slots: by switching to the other slot I managed to install and access to the rom. Now I can recover the files, so I can format data without problems. Thank you!
