Question 11gb of RAM - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro

Haven't seen this discussed but there is a feature to add 3gb of RAM to the device. I've got the 8gb ram model with 256gb storage. Now I have 11gb of RAM.
I was told it was only for the 256gb models.

If it's pure Swap like in Linux/Windows it's next to worthless. If its ZSWAP it's better but even it was seemingly dropped in favour of ZRAM later.

In the meantime, a new, cheaper 8GB version of Mi Pad 5 Pro without a cellular just launched.

OnePlus X 32 GB Version

Does anyone think there are any chances that OnePlus will release 32 GB variant of OnePlus X? This is really a great device. 5 inch 1080p AMOLED display is killer. But only 16 GB emmc storage has been dealbreaker for me. Even with microSD expansion capability, Android phones nowadays need at least 32 GB internal memory. If 32 GB variant is there, I would buy it without any second thoughts.
I don't see the need to have 32 Gb having the microSD expansion. Don't think it would be in mind of Oneplus manufacturers

I thought so too, until I bought this phone. I use the dual SIM functionality, and I've learned to live with 16 GB. You really start only installing the essentials when you're forced to.

Does larger storage mean faster storage like ssd's are?

I am considering on buying the s9+ sometime this week but i couldn't find any answers online, i am going to choose between a 64gb and a 128gb version of the s9+ (exynos version), does anyone have any idea if i'll get a faster internal storage if i buy the bigger capacity? i know for a fact that ssd's get faster if you buy the bigger capacity, but what about UFS 2.1 storage?
I am also considering the touchscreen problem, would it be wise to buy it now or wait for an official statement of samsung's investigation? i don't want to deal with exchanging phones in case of this common problem, my N7105's speed is killing me.
Thank you.

Multitasking/RAM

You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.

Multitasking 6GB RAM Model
I generally don't let things get out of hand, but I've had no problem running lots of apps on the phone and in DeX mode to a 4K TV with a USB mouse and keyboard, and still running nicely.
If anyone find 6 vs 8gb note comparison video, please share. I'd like to see is there any improvement in keeping apps in background on 8gb model.

device heats up little bit when playing games or doing some heavy tasks multi tasking works awesome
Compared to other devices I've used, the 8gb Note 9 I'm using is a world of difference. It seems like Samsung nailed it with the way this phone handles having a ton of apps running at the same time. It smoothly transitions between whatever apps I want to use with seemingly no impact to performance

Says just over 7 with everything closed out including background processes
Mine (with apps closed but background processes etc) uses around 2.2-2.5, 5GB free and 600mb reserved by the system.

Well that sounds about right if you've got stuff open. That was only with literally everything on my phone closed so I can't imagine that we'll ever fully see over 6gb available with minimal or no apps but background stuff running. I really can't imagine any 8gb user will run into issues with ram regardless of how much the settings say is available

6 is plenty. I have the 6gig and only keep 3-4 open. It works great. I wanted the 8gig but after looking at a bunch of reviews I couldn't justify getting the 8gig for my type of usage. I don't play any games. Jist YouTube. Text. Browser. Music and a bit of social.

I switched from the s7e exynos to the note 9 exynos. I can tell you from my experience that it's smoother, faster, better to hold in hands without a case, better camera, better audio from speakers/headphones, a lot better battery life and so on + the new one UI shapes to be great too (android P). The difference is there and the phone better + I have the 6GB variant and this + software optimisations leads to quite good RAM management, it's vastly better than the s7e - will recommend you to get the 6GB version if you don't need the 512GB onboard storage (you can put fast sd card for videos/photos on the 128GB model if needed).

Thx man and about storage i dont have an issue as my s7 already have so much space left i think 128gb will be enough also i am just stopping myself from buying it right now cos in india 5g will come in 2019 and note 9 dont have it so i will be paying a huge price for a phone that dont support it ( s10 may support 5g)

Agree, 128GB is plenty. If you can wait, do so for the s10 is my advice (or 2019 phones in general). Otherwise you will not be dissapointed from the note 9.

WIll buy something in april nxy yr lets see what comes next

Is it worth Buying Armoured (Kevlar) Edition of 8GB 256GB or Else 6GB 128GB is fine?

Guys i am planing to get 256GB Armoured Editon varient . Is it worth buying or should i get 128GB Varient. ?
Stick to 128 version imho. Even with kevlar this phone needs a case cos of the exposed screen edges and GG3. And if 128 GB is not enough u can always pop in an sd card which is much cheaper than paying the differential

64gb is the best choice. i dont think it's worth paying that much extra just to get more storage. i'm a power user and even i can't fill up that 64 gb storage completely
How much of 64gb is available to the user?

I have a few apps installed so i think its around 54 GB free . 7.7 GB is reserved for system.
And around 3.7 GB is free out of 6GB while the phone is idle only with data on.
Hi.
Where is the best source where we can order poco armoured edition?
If you have a budget of kevlar version buy asus zenfone 5z instead. It is much better choice . Have better camera and build quality.
Of course.. if you've got a budget.. i., Too , am willing to go 256 + 8 + kevlar.. 128gb nowadays.. for me.. is a bit inaedquate.. as im an app-monger.. ???
The version 6GB is acceptable too.
Depends on how much is the Kevlar 256/8 gb variant?
Honestly, save some cash and go for the 128/6 gb with a nice armoured flip case.
I am an app-monger..
And i also dont know how to use magisk modules that uses sd card as my obb and data locator...
So my 128/128. Is starting to be full. Plus im a certified
historical korean drama addict.. so i have tons of it on my phone.. as well as my huge flac compilations...
We need a 8/128 version.
Is armoured edition producted anyware? We have many standard offers on aliexpress, but armoured is absent.
Dude save your money! Google and Microsoft give you tons of free storage. Get the cheapest Poco and enjoy
I bought the 128GB/6GB variant but if I had to choose again I'd go with the 64 GB version and just get a cheap 64 GB SD card. Since Android Pie can use SD cards as adoptable storage you effectively end up with 128 GB

Not sure how to set it up in MIUI but I use the Google Experience ROM and when you insert the SD card for the first time you get a popup asking you if you want to use the SD card as adoptable storage and if you choose yes then you can also store apps and other data on the SD card (it will do so automatically because the system just expands the internal storage)
The clue is in kevlar material. If i will buy glass or alluminium phone i will break it in my pocket. If i want to use something bigger than my z3c it have to be kevlar or i will have to select xz3 and stay with sony for next years.
I have the Kevlar version it's really not worth the extra money just get standard one and a good case
people think because kevlar is bulletproof its good it really is not on a phone its a gimmic

Worth the extra $$$ for 8GB of RAM?

Stuck on the fence between the two options. Storage space isn't as compelling to me as I already have an SD card for expanded storage.
What's everyone's thoughts? Worth the extra cost for 33% more RAM?
Save your $
with the price drops at best buy it was only 30 dollars difference so I opted to return the 128gb model and get the 256.
The biggest issue on an external memory is: to slow, not all things can moved on the SD Card. Internal less memory let lost the fun of the tablet. Thats my experience of the last years. About this one I move to the 256G part

you need to buy cards marked U3, not U1 that guarantees minimum 30MB/s(240mbps) write speed. That's what I buy for shooting 4k 60ps drone footage which tops 120mbps. They are still not as fast as internal storage, but for movies and other data files they are great.
The card is only the half way. You can used the fastest card of the World, if the interface to the card id slow. The tranferrate to and from the SDCard ist one of the negative point of the galaxy tab S7 in the technical reviews (Could be better for this device)
You can compare this with a SSD on a SATA2 .The SSD could be faster , but the tx/rx rate from the hardware is not faster and brake the performance
abso-smurfly worth the cost if you do heavy video or into multitasking and using DEX. if you do lite email and occasional gaming, its not worth it. but im a power user and the extra 100 dollars was pocket change for me to gain that extra ram.

well running benchmark U1 vs U3 I'm getting 90/70MBs(u3) vs 70/40MBs(u1). Which is close to the quoted max rate on the card. Now that's nothing compared to internal storage which I'm guessing is true SSD which tests out at nearly 1GBs, which definitely makes the extra 128gb + 2 GB of RAM a great deal for 30 dollars.
Still the U3 card is a solid performance boost.
Thanks everyone for the input, appreciate it.
Considering the price difference isn't that much, I decided to go big.
One thing I'm a bit bummed about is that the 256GB model only has one color option - I realize it's just cosmetic but I would have liked the mystic silver option. I'm just limited to the black option.

Hm, what area of the world are you ordering from? Here in the US, the 256 GB model is available in silver. I have one, and it's also showing as available in Samsung's store.
In Germany the 256G version are in black, silver and bronze available
After a week, I'm glad I went with the upgrade. Ended up paying 700 even for the 7+ and got 50$ GC on the side and the speed of the internal storage is amazing. Add to that the extra RAM. I like Black
If you're asking about RAM - don't worry. 6 GB is plenty on the tablet. I was worried at first too but after having 6 tabs open on Chrome, YouTube vanced in picture-in-picture mode, and Microsoft Word open - there were no delays or lag. Ymmv, but I don't have any issues.
That being said, if the difference in price is about 30-50$ I'd consider it. The added RAM makes it more future proof and if you don't need a MicroSD card with the added base storage, then you come out on top since the external storage just isn't as fast.
