Question Worth while upgrade? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

I have an old Tab S2 that I think has finally died. I'm looking at the as a possible replacement. Trying to decide between this (4/64 version), the older Tab A8.4 from 2020, and the larger Tab S6 Lite.
Mainly couch web surfing (but 5-10 tabs), candy crush level games, Facebook, MS Teams, and light doc/spreadsheet viewing.
Anyone with this, A7 Lite, come from the Tab S2 or Tab A 8.4?

[Q] [Smartphone vs. Tablet] Samsung Galaxy S II vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

I am planning to buy samsung galaxy s II, but i have read news from samsung galaxy tab 10.1. I also read the news that tablets will beat the smartphones in the future. They have pros and cons on each. I am quite confused that samsung galaxy tab 10.1 is cheaper ($499) than samsung galaxy s II ($800+). So if you're gonna choose between the two, sgs II or sam tab 10.1? This also is a battle between smartphone and tablet. A need vs a want. Which do you think is better to have?
I have also read that even the best smartphone is no match on any tablet.
I'll give a advantages and disadvantages of the two:
a) Smartphone
Pros: - a phone
- more portable
- more stable
- community (custom roms)
- rootable*
Cons: - more expensive
- smaller means less performance
- slower
- not so great for watching movies and web browsing
b) Tablet
Pros: - cheaper
- better performance
- bigger display
- better movie watching
- better gaming experience
- better multitasking
-better web browsing
Cons: - bigger
- not as powerful as a netbook that's almost its size
- not a phone
All are the same excluding the pros and cons of the both
The choice is yours
Except for the fact that the SGSII has a lower resolution screen while having a faster cpu than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Which makes it... faster and better for multi-tasking.
A smartphone is for doing phone stuff, and a tablet is for browsing the internet etc. I wouldn't use a tablet as a replacement for a phone!
I woud consider a tablet a replacement for a small laptop, not a smartphone.
If you use your smartphone's features (like browsing the web and using email) mostly around the house, then I would pick a tablet over a smartphone, and get a cheaper Android phone to go along with it.
- smaller means less performance
wrooong..
++ smaller means you can take it anywhere without having to have a bum bag too.
Smartphones are way more portable than tablets, which for me means I'd take a smartphone over a tablet any day if I could have only one. I can't be bothered to take a 10" tablet with me everywhere I go, but definitely love the functionalities of a smartphone.
If you can have just 1: smartphone > tablet
Agreed, if I had the choice between the two, it would be the phone. A tablet is a nice convenient toy.

Galaxy 8.9 question

I didn't see a q and a section for the tab 8.9. I need to pick up a tablet for my niece before the end of the year. It will not be used as a phone. The primary use will be for skype, google maps, watching videos(netflix, youtube, mp4's) and doing a small amount note taking. I am currently looking at the streak 7(because of the price), the wifi only galaxy tab, and the wifi only tab 8.9. I know the tab plus is coming out soon but she is going to be traveling and needs this before the end of the year. I know that the streak and original tab both have a lot of development done(themes, rom's, kernel's) as well as accessories. I wanted to know which of these three would be the best performer for the tasks that I listed above?
I can't give you a comparison of the devices but I recently bought an 8.9 wifi only and am very happy with it. I don't bother with videos but use it for work - emails, notes, web, Skype. Excellent screen, plenty fast enough for me (although some claim it is a bit laggy), good battery life.
My tips
1. Go for 32gb or bigger as you can't expand the memory
2. Install ADW EX launcher for a better user experience
3. Add a really good keyboard app (I use Thumbs)
Just typed the above on the tab and didn't have to make a single correction (and I'm no great typist)

Indirect Samsung Question...

how many of you guys who have a SGS2 also have a tab either 7, 8.9 or 10.1 and do you use it often or infrequently? I'm asking because I really want one but dont know if it makes any sense with our awesome phone. So input would be appreciated
I've got a 10.1 tab. I use it, but not a ton. Mostly for reading books, watching TV and movies, and Web browsing. It's great when traveling.
this is were im flip flopping I dont travel much i would mostly use it as a reader/ occasional gaming so I dont know if its more want than actual need/use. PS thanks for answering
i have the 3g xoom and a sgsII. lately ive been on my phone more but thats just cuz its new to me (only had it about 2 weeks now).
i like my xoom more for web browsing, email, and games due to the larger screen. its also easier to navigate between tabs in the browser.

I also have a CR-48 and a desktop, I'm starting to think a tablet would be overkill as sweet as they are
i have a cr-48 collecting dust upstairs somewhere. my desktop doesnt get much use except for hosting video and music to stream to my xoom or phone.

I've got a 10.1, use it all the time. A lot of the time at restaurants, my phone is only serving to tether the tab.
Task650 also has a 10.1 - in fact long before he started creating GS2 ROMs, he was maintaining Tab 10.1 ROMs. His are what I use on my 10.1.
I don't maintain a 10.1 kernel because it's a pain in the ass, and also pershoot knows his ****.
The 10.1 is a great device - even when stock! (other than Samsung's ****ty initial 3.2 update - they fixed it fast though.)
However it is getting a bit old now - The one complaint I have about the 10.1 is the crappiness of the Tegra 2. Unfortunately if you want Exynos you've got to drop to 7" screen size.
If Sammy releases an Exynos-based 10.1 or 8.9, I'm selling my 10.1 and grabbing it in a heartbeat. Tegra3 quadcore - not so sure, the Tegra3 will probably be as much of a disappointment in the quadcore market as the Tegra2 was for dualcores.
I have a 10.1. I don't use it a ton but when I do I love it. It is really nice for sitting on the couch and surfing or playing a game as well as for reading. If I had the choice I might switch to 8.9 though.

I have original Tab which I have given to my wife. I loved it and she loves it. I still prefer it as reading device than sgs2... if she allows me that is.

Hmmmm so now you have given me food for thought, maybe I should just wait till the new ones are released , if they are Exynos based get one if not get an existing one on bigger discount
I have a Asus Transformer 10.1 inch and a HTC View 7 Inch. I use them all very often I was tempted to pick up one of the new galaxy tabs but I'm holding out until quad core I might get the Asus prime next month
I have SGS tab 10.1. But I mostly use my SGS2. My wife uses the tab most of the time. As entropy mentioned tegra2 is not that good in handling here contents without using third party software. Also, I was watching fast five using pocket blu, the videos were quite choppy, but it played well on SGS2, until I rooted SGS2.

so it seems waiting it out is best
I used to use my tab for browsing and youtube only, which it is fantastic at, much better than my sgs2.
Then I put ICS cm9 Alpha on it.
The tab has become so much more useful that I've almost completely stopped touching my phone. I can blaze out an email significantly faster on my Tab than I could on a PC. And not only that but the multitasking is instant. You should see me use this thing when I'm emailing, grabbing info off the net, and Facebook chatting at the same time. I look like a mad man and something straight out of the movie Minority Report.
I love my 10.1

[Q] Moving from Samsung Tab 3 10.1 to Tab S 8.4

Im giving my Tab 3 to girlfriends son (replacing the boys Toshiba Excite 10 SE). I purchased a Tab S 8.4.
Questions:
1. Is the Tab 3 10.1 comparable spec wise with the Toshiba? The boy plays alot of games. Regardless he is getting the tab 3 (cause the Toshiba is from a renta center and gf is paying way to much. Finally talked her into returning the tablet). This is just a curiosity if this question gets no answers I wont loose sleep : )
2. This is the important question in my eyes. Is there anyway I can migrate my go launcher ex theme (and custom icons/placements), apps, settings, passwords etc from 10.1 to 8.4? I really enjoy that I made myself a fallout PIP boy theme. Spent alot of time customizing icons. Im not rooted, I do have mybackup Pro. I have alot of paid apps so. Id really like as easy a transition as possible. Trying to levelset my expectations, and maybe get pointed to a few guides if Im not asking to much.
3. I assume its fairly easy to factory reset my tab 3 before giving it to the boy. Im fairly confident if I poke around enough I can figure this one out. But not till I get squared away with 2.
Im computer savy, rooted my old nook before I gave up trying to make it a tablet. I have tomorrow night to get this working. Just trying to do a little background work.

Help me make a decision. Re: keep or sell my unused Galaxy Tab 10.1

I have a new, still in sealed box, Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7510 that I bought 3 years ago. Can't decide whether
to open the box and use it or try to sell it on eBay and use the money to buy a newer version.
This one is 16gb with a Nvidia Tegra 250 processor and Android 3.1 Honeycomb.
I use my tabs just for slow games, like Minecraft or logic puzzles. I would also use it as a e-reader.
Keep or sell? Any advice would be appreciated.
David
Its not really worth much. I've seen some NIB ones listed for 100 bucks and they weren't selling. You can get a cheap tablet with better specs that the P7510 for that price already.
If you want to use it for games, as an e reader, etc.... You could try using it stock out of the box (without doing the Touchwiz update, as it originally came as stock honeycomb, more like Google intended than Samsung) and see how it runs. You might prefer it that way. Once it got ICS, it really got laggy IMO. Still usable, but not anywhere near a modern tablet.
If you root it and install anything more recent than ICS, you'll run into glitchy things, etc. due to drivers not being updated, etc. I only use mine for browsing the net and an occasion e book and it's fine. I run the Lollipop ROM in the development section and it's alright. The dev did a good job with what he had to work with...... but if you want to watch video or anything more intensive, you may not want to go that root.
