Question My S22 plus ( and all S22 series ) has Distortion and Crackling Speaker - Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

At the beginning i noticed distortion sound coming with Alram sound and i thought it is the ringtone and changed it , used my mobile phone normally and sound is perfect playing music.
I searched the issue because i had doubts and unfortunately all the series has the same issue :
- When there is cold weather ( you can put the mobile at freezer for 5 minutes if you live in summer season now) the sound get distortion
- If you take your mobile to a flight , the same problem appears and sometimes the sound is not coming at all from the speakers
To solve the problem immediately , eject your sim tray out and surprise ! the mobile sound back to normal ! you can make the test over and over and the same result i tried may things , wiping cach ,restarting nothing solve the problem except ejecting the sim tray !
You can google it for S22 distortion and crackling and you will find many people on Samsung community had the same issue and even replaced it with new ones and got the same issue ! Also you will find a youtube video showing the problem .
I don`t know is it a software problem ! but i don't think so .
Please share with me your experience and your thoughts and if anyone can get an official statement from Samsung let us know .

Hello ,
I have tried Bluetooth earbuds , no distortion/crackling but at the same time when i play it on device speakers it makes distortion/crackling .
i did not try wires headphones ,but i guess no use since the Bluetooth are ok ,which means the problem in the debice itself .
you can try the freezer , put the phone in plastic bag and put in freezer for 5 minutes and try .
Also because i travel alot , the presssure from the airplane make the same problem and sim tray ejecting fix it !

I dont think u understood what i meant. I said u need too try if distortion continues also over WIRED earbuds over USB-C, (bluetooth uses didferent transistors" inside the phone to send audio out over radio frequency) beacose its possible that this can be fixed via software, in case the distortion continues over earbuds. Its not only pressure that its the cause, it can also be temperature control over S22 amplifier or the other transitors that are responsible of sending audio output out of the phone (speakers, bluetooth or wired ) - u need too test it all at the time when distortion started to happening. And also try turn on or OFF the UHQ upscaller in sound settings, too see if distortion over speakers stops then. Its all about diagnostics. Myself when i switch UHQ upscaller , it stops over earbuds for example. (i got S22+). I saw all videos of that issues and i have read all Samsung forums and others, and the issue varies - and mostly its considering Ultra version, not other two devices of S22 series. Other two can have other codec problems or something. Maybe its even all connected too the firmware issue when it comes too audio outputs and stuff, since the S22 series at the same time has also audio/video syncin issues and whatnot.

Let's hope that is a software issue
I will find a usb c /aux connector and try the wired headphones and let you know the results for sure .
Just let me know how to turn off/on UHQ upscaler ?

One more thing i forgot to say , i tested during the flight also to leave the sim tray slightly opened for around 1 hour ( the same time left closed to test the problem ) and the problem did not happen !
so it suowed when tray is closed and didn't show when tray is not closed .

Under Settings go to menu sound quality and effects, and in that menu you will find that option. Im adding picture. HQU option is available only when u have connected WIRED USB -C earbuds. HQ audio works only over wired audio transmition.
Remember, when distortion starts, try listening over all 3 ways (speak, bluetooth earphones and more importantly WIRED earphones over USB-C). Then let us know, if distortion goes over earbuds as well. After that try that UHQ upscaller, but usilly helpes, issues still returns after a min or two in my case. Im thinking its software firmware issue....and If issues persists over wired USB-C , then try boot in safe mode, and test all 3 ways again - and if then it will be gone, then its almost certain, that its software issue. (U can also try at once when u take phone out of the freezer, and started crackling, boot into safe mode and check if the issue persists in safe mode.

UPDATE **** 12 Apr 2022
Hello S22 series owners ,
Cutting to the point , we all suffered speaker distortion problem due to getting the device in cold weather or on a flight ! and we all know about fixing it by ejecting the sim tray to equalize that pressure !
Well I have Galaxy watch 4 and it has an option after getting into water , to select from drop menu called ejecting water , and it make short tones !
And i thought it should be the same with the smartphone , there has to be a way to eject that pressure/mositure , i searched and found an application explained by someone on youtube channel ( Tech 786 ) called Sonic wave - sonic pitch tone sound generator ; you can find it as Apk just google it .
Anywya he was showing this app as a solution for ejecting water from a sumberged phone to clear the speakers from the water by playing 165HZ tone for a minute or so .
I installed the app , took my s22+ to the freezer for 5 minutes till showed the malfunction of the speaker then started the application and played the 165HZ tone and less than one minute the sound back to normal !(as if you have ejected the sim tray out ).
This is a hope that the problem could be solved by a software tweak , that when the phone senses a temperatures drop or too much pressure ,activates something like that or at least Samsung make an option like in Galaxy watch 4 !
Finally , i will have the device on a flight in 2 days ,i will test onboard during the flight , and check this app , will it help also without the sim tray trick or no and i will come back to you all.
Samsung please fix this !

Dont forget when u gonna test your theory, test also using wired usb earphones, if problem presist there too

I'd just like to say I don't have any distortion with my S22+. That's with USB wired headphones, being on a flight, playing music and notifications through the speaker... So, it's definitely not with everyone. Like someone else posted, if you're in your return window, return it!

this issue happends very rarely, usilly its all fine with earphones, but randomly rarely distortion starts...

I just noticed the same thing on my flight, when I landed the sound was distorted, took it two hours to stabilize.
I currently have a physical SIM but want to swap to ESIM in order to use dual sim overseas.
Anyone has a solution if using ESIM instead of SIM?

I tried the trick with the 165Hz sound wave, it didn't work after the latest sw update, I had to pull the sim card out.

[Q] Problems with audio jack

Hi all,
to my great frustration, I've discovered that my SGS2 line-out / headphones jack seems to have a slack joint, i.e. if you turn a connected plug around its long axis, a crackling sound is heared in the speakers and at some angular positions the stereo signal will be reduced to mono (i.e. one speaker gos silent). With one device (mobile outdoor speaker) I even had no sound at all at when inserting the plug with the wrong "orientation".
Did anybody experience the same problem or am I just out of luck here?
I am wondering whether sending back the device to the retailer (Amazon) or directly to Samsung (I'm situated in Germany) will yield the faster round-trip time, any experiences here?
Thanks!
PS: I know this may be a stupid question but can somebody PLEASE tell me how to search for multiple keywords with AND logic in this forum? Tried "+word +word" and "word AND word" (without the quotes) but nothing seems to work.
Are you using the headphones that came with it? My better half went through 4 sets of the stock samsung headphones with her original Galaxy S and all produced the same issue of losing one channel after a matter of days/weeks. having the jack inserted to about 2/3rds is a workaround but not ideal as you still lose some frequencies and it's insecure... They're just a bit pony.
No, I used different kind of headphones, including Sennheiser in-ear headphones and a standard male-male audio jack connected to some bigger hifi system. With some jacks I did not encounter the problem, but most of them lost some part of the signal with some orientations: I persume that the manufacturing tolerance of the jacks also plays a role...
Anyway, it's definitely not a problem of the jacks but of the device since I tried it with the SGS2 of a friend yesterday and it worked with the same jack that made problems with my device.
I will proceed sending my phone to Samsung for repair, I hope that won't take to long *sad looking*, I am so used to it now, it's card to survive to weeks without it.
I had the same problem, all I had to do was insert headphones cable "HARDER" into the audio jack until I herd a "click" sound.
I was way to over protective of this phone when i first had it, and wanted to handle too much with care, forced the dam cable in, and "click", sounded like it snapped into place, the audio worked correctly without cracking noise or without the need to wiggle to cable get clearer sound.
Perhaps your friends SGS2 is already used to headphone being inserted, but yours not. Just add a little pressure until you hear clip into place.
If this doesnt help, then repair or return.
Thanks for the hint, but unfortunately I had the jack inserted to the very end, so this was not the problem... sent in for repair now, let's see what happens.
I have a fix for you i think!!!!!!!!
ok . when i got my s2 like 4 days ago (at&t usa version) i noticed that when i plugged into my aux cable in my car that it was low sound cracking more volume on the left side , very annoying . NOW FOR A SIMPLE FIX FOR SOME TO TRY! PLUG IT IN ALL THE WAY! i noticed when plugging it in i wasnt fully plugging it in . it should go all the way down FULLY! the sound is perfect once this is done . I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU !!!!!! good luck

[HELP!] Hero having problems with ear headphones/handsfree

I have my Hero's original handsfree and since 3 days ago only 1 earpiece is working, same thing happens with my mp3's ear headphones and other handsfree from my friend, all of them work on 1 "speaker" on my phone. I mention that all the above work flawlessly on my friend's phone. First I thought it's the rom, so I changed the rom (Android 2.1, 2.2, 2.3) but with no success. Yesterday I tried plugging in my regular headphones (those that cover the whole ears) that I use on my computer and both of the "speakers" work. What can I do ? Small headphones suddenly aren't fully working but my normal headphones work great.
Everything was working great until 3 days ago. Tried on calls, Rom's music player, video player, youtube, some online radio player, different music players, video players, no results. Please someone help me with an idea of what's going on and how to fix this.
"Hardware" problem. Try removing upper button from the volume control, usualy there is the place where wires are soldered to the circuit. - and usualy there they broke
Hint - to be shure try another working handfree before blaming phone/soft/firmware - HF must be for Hero for everything to work, and you may just put ordinary headphones to test left/right channel sounds.
I'm not blaming the soft or my handsfree or headphones or the firmware but I dunno why is it reacting this way ! But leaving the handsfree beside for a moment I dunno why the ordinary headphones work on both on L and R "speakers"... but the ones that go in the ears work only on L or R "speaker" and this ones work great on my mp3 player. They also worked on my phone until 3 days ago.
I've disassembled my phone and there's no wire on the jack slot .. it's directly connected to the main board and doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the bond. It's not possible if you think of it. Gonna call an exorcist for my phone or something gonna take it to the shop in the morning maybe they can take the evil from it thanks anyway
Edit : The guys over the phone shop fixed my problem ... there was something f**ked up in my Jack slot or something. Now I can use my handsfree again
maybe i was not correct, but in my case it was in teh "control box" of handsfree, i never opened the phone.

I just bought s3 recently and have faced mic issues, its not able to pick up voice easily, have to use the other hand to cover my mouth and phone for it to be able to catch my voice!!
I am going through mic issues.
I had a mic problem with my first S3 during phone calls. I couldn't do anything about it everyone was saying they couldn't hear me.
(The sim I am using is an British UK O2 micro simcard that I used in a iphone 4, cheap samsung, and samsung S2 previously with no problems at all.)
I then returned the phone to the T-mobile shop retailers, they said it was rare and not a common fault.
My new one is doing the exact same thing, I didn't update it nor is there a new update.
Can someone please help as I am lost. Thank you.

s3 mic problem
im having same problems n im on my third 1, all with the same problems. just been through all setting n nothing, waiting to hear back from my network provider (3). good phone but really annoyed with this problem now, everything is ok i put on loud speaker but this is no use when im tryin to run a business.......
I thought I was the only one facing the issue . The handsfree using the wired headset is completely faulty and the other party can hardly hear you . However sometime it works.
I tried some options ..
1. Dont insert the wired headset in the middle of the call it wont work.
2. Insert the wired headset and then dial the number - this seems to work most of the times
3. Accepting the call while the wired headset is inserted - this seems to work.
Not sure what the solution is - anyone able to resolve it ?
not the best voice receptions by the mic....but i havent got any complaints from the receiving end...and audio recording not great but better than the s2..used both the phones for quiet long
I have same issue. Other party doesn't hear me most of the times clearly. They say that I sound like i'm using speaker mode and I'm walking in the room with bucket in my head.
I used some kind of phonecall recording app and from there I can hear myself quite clearly. Maybe it is related to service provider?
Now switched to gsm mode only to see does it make difference.

I also have the same issue. But when i go to uncheck the box I am not allowed to do so. I see it is checked but with light green colour and i cannot uncheck it. Any suggestions?
I am not rooted.... Does this affect?
mic problem in S3
M also having t same problem...hav done all the ways explained above...but still in trouble....sometimes mic works great but sometimes it dont...
microphooooone hole
I have a solution guys. Use left hand when phone call or grab it just for upper part. You are covering small hole for microphone.
I have like 1phone/year and never happened to me that i cover microphone hole when calling. With this one I have to stay focused to dont cover.... Its getting better but samsung engineers terribly overlooked this.
I phone like 4-5 hours per day, so i have habit to let phone just touch my hand and pretty much dont hold it at all. But when you hold it right hand your below thumb area of hand get to cover microphone hole....
and this is when someone else looses my voice over phone....
There is a microphone at the bottom and one at the top. How are you holding your phone? No matter what I do, I can't cover them up during a call.

Same here, cannot uncheck 'noise cancellation'
Wired headset only works when call made first, then audio plug inserted, even with BT disabled.
Multiple headsets mics not working that are known good headsets tested on other phones.

I have played with recording a bit lately (due to another issue of noise in audio recording) and I found that the upper microphone is disabled during a call from some reason. It is used in other video/audio recording though.

if I'm not mistaken the upper mic is working solo when ur on speaker during a call.
when u use the ear peace the buttom one is the main one and the upper one is for noise cancelation.

I only tried on speaker and the upper mic was definitely not catching anything - if I placed my hand over the bottom one, there was no sound from my side, even when I was talking directly to the upper mic.
Not sure whether it is a feature or a bug (there were some reports that the mics are switched by mistake on the software level) but if it is a feature then it is rather unfortunate one as it is quite common to hold the phone at its bottom.

You right, thats the reason for upper microphone - do compare signals from lower ant top, and eliminates noise (that coming more from top) from voice (that coming much more from low)
Other reason probably is stereo sound when making video...
PS
Comon guys, it is almost impossible to hide microphone with hand, left or right - does not matter. You should have palm from soft material as balloon to hide it Otherwise it is hardly possible by mistake, even if you try it is hard to do it

SONY Z2 headphone jack

my sony z2 detects my apple headphones but when i start a song , you can hear anything , also tried lg and samsung headphones but nothing , it connects but there is no sound , is it a software problem , i have 5.1.1
Im sad to say but it can be that your head phone jack is dead. Have you submerged your handset under water? It can stop working while its wet, all water must exit the jack before it will start working. Do you have another device to test the headphones if they are 100% operational?
You can also try another music app to see if it will play sound. Also try clearing the data and cache from the default music app. Have you installed any sound mods? Something like viper for android for e.g.? This may also disable or make problems with sound.
Finally, if nothig goes, try to factory reset the phone to eliminate the posibility of a software glitch.
my headphones are working , also i tried another apps but nothing , also i didnt put it in water , any chance that only the original headphones would work , i didnt get them with the phone and never tried them , it detects the headphones but there is no sound

Any standard 3,5mm headphones should work fine with Z2. Theres a good chance your headphone jack is malfunctioning. It obviously has power but it does not output any sound. There is not much you can do if you did all mentioned above, thats all you can do as for the troubleshooting goes for your self. Take your device to the nearest sony service.
it will be no water resistant any more right if i change the headphone jack ?
it would be better if i get a Bluetooth headphone right ? and recommendations ?
thanks a lot guys

If you take it to an official service and repair it with genuine part then it will remain waterproof. But yes you could use BT headphines although they are more expensive than regular ones and usually run arround 60 dollars for a decent pair.

Headphones pluged in mic problem with phone calls

Hi guys,
I need your advice here. I love the music capability of the v10. So my headphones is plugged in the phone all the time while listening to music. However, I noticed that 30% of the time when I receive/make phone calls the mic would just stop working. If I unplug my headphone and replug it back, about 50% of the time it will work again. The other 50% the phone call would end when I unplug my headphones. During all these scenarios the mic would work under speaker mode.
Is this a software issue?? Coz the mic obviously work flawlessly when the phone is unplugged or when it's on speaker mode. Would reboot the phone solve this problem or should I send this unit back to lg??
Thanks in advanced for your help!
I'm having the exact same problem you are. This happened to me once before and it just sort of fixed itself after a while. Do you see a weird little headphone chord icon at the top of your screen? If you do, it means that your phone thinks that a headset is plugged in when it's not, thus not allowing sound - such as music - to output from your external speaker. Mine doesn't even play music through headphones or allow me to hear anyone while making calls if I don't use speaker phone - the person I'm calling can't even hear me.
This is such a faulty issue - and a rarely known or talked about one at best. I'd take it up to your local carrier store and see what they say.
Mic prpblem even without headphone plug-in.

Now I know the phone's mic works ~80% of the time. When it works, it works flawlessly. So, do you guys think this might be a software problem??
