I am desperately trying to hide and block the update to 4.1. I am still on 3.1 and hear all the bugs of 4.1 are rough. If it's not possible, im gonna return the phone

You need to disable the OTA Update app.
Use a adb edit or a package disabler.
Your carrier can disable it from their side as well.
Stay away from wifi networks until this is done. The carrier may also have update towers which update very fast if you get in range.

Perfect, I will do this later today. I was able to hide the update notification with good lock so now I just need to remove the update app

Is this what you are referring to? @blackhawk

Yes, the top one is the firmware upgrade one. It has literally just about every permission under the sun. The way it behaves it might as well be malware.
I blocked the second one as well. This N10+ in my hand hasn't been upgraded/updated in almost 2.5 years, still running on Pie. Current load will be 2 yo this June, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. Security simply isn't an issue... upgrades are

I was able to disable the mentioned apps with ADB App Control GUI tool for windows. Thanks M8.

Thank you both for this information. I disabled the mentioned apps just like you mentioned. The instant it was done, the Samsung update notification disappeared. Thank you again and have a blessed day!

[Q] How do I add quick settings?

As title says...how do I add the additional quick links to the pull menu bar (screen brightness, ringer volume, rotate)???
I've been looking and am hoping someone can help....I don't want to flash a different ROM to get them, just mod the one I'm on now. A flashable zip would be even better
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for posting this. Do you have to do anything else besides flash this? I'm pretty n00b at looking inside apks
i flashed this and I didn't get any extra settings. Any ideas? Thanks, I'm on stock rooted btw
Yeah, HTC should really offer some customization of their quick settings.
I'd personally like to see an option to put the phone in standby, like is available on some MIUI ROMs. The less I need to use the hard power button, the longer it'll last.

I think this is what I have but it's made for gingerbread 2.3.3 which works for the most part on 2.3.4 but instead of saying "of or on" it just says "1% 2%". Are you using 2.3.4?
is there an update of this zip for 2.3.4?
Thanks!

Screen off and lock from the market.
Solves your problem.

New JB default app selector is the worst!

How do we let Google know to go back to the default app selector? The one in ICS just required 1 click to select from the list of available apps. I know that I don't always like selecting a default app because for things like links I like being presented with the option of different browsers etc. And if I define a default it can be a hassle to undo the default. I just don't like how I have to select "Just Once" every time. I liked how it worked in ICS that there was a check box to define the default if yo unwanted to, but to select the app was just 1 click. I hope that Google will revert in versions to come!

Completely agree with you! At times i prefer opening links in the pop up browser, and other times in the full blown one. Think we can get people for a petition?

If I helped you, please hit the thanks button!
agreed, i use chrome as my default, but would really like the option of having the pop up... good point, but doubtful we can do much right now.
Take a chill pill guys. Android 4.2 fixes this issue, so this will become a non-issue whenever Verizon's Note II gets that software update. http://www.pocketables.com/2012/11/...popup-to-bypass-annoying-selector-system.html

Haha. But even if Verizon takes forever to officially release 4.2 for this phone, I'm sure there will be leaks. Or if the bootloader ever gets unlocked, an AOSP version of 4.2 or Key Lime Pie could be developed for those who don't mind the lack of S-Pen features.
But at the end of the day, this app selector issue is pretty minor. The phone's still fine otherwise.
That's good news.... I didn't realize that they had fixed this in 4.2. I can wait as long as there is hope.

New system update available

Version 58.0.A.22.21 147MB
Does anyone know if there are any improvements?
Updated, don't see any difference. Maybe security patch?
I do not know.
Irritating that there are no changelog. Am I imagining it or have they tweaked the vibration strenght on long presses and the like to not be so aggressive?
They have changed the home button icon. It now has a circle around it.
installed this morning.
Security patch updated to October 2020
I also noticed that the issue with the screen going on and off during calls is now fixed!
What problems are you talking about? When making a call, the sensor works as it's supposed to for me.

The only situation that I noticed this is when I was accidentally touching the sensor while holding the phone.
It takes some time to get used not to touch with your thumb on that area.

Hey, my fingerprint sensor was behaving like crap too, now after a factory reset it works very well, can only recommend!
Pretty odd that HK & TW got reverted back to the older version. Pretty sure it was there a few days ago.
Still no update for TW model, Why Sony Why???
I thought battery life was a little better.

Question What in god's name is SMD wakeup

Hello all,
GSAM is reporting a high wake-lock under the banner SMD Wakeup. Can someone explain what it means and how to get rid of it?!!!!!
Maybe it's knox enrollment service, com.sec.enterprise.knox.cloudmdm.smdms?
I am also suffering from too many wakelocks from the Android system itself.
Naptime app by Franco the same person who makes Franco kernel manager. It's on Google Play store and can be used for free and you give it a few extra adb permissions with a pc and shizuku adb shell and boom you have better wake lock controls and more control over how android sleeps in general.

Nope...it's called Significant Motion Detection under the Doze and any SMDs come into this bracket (such as the phone moving, you moving while the phone is on you, the screen turning on due to a notification etc) the phone goes off doze and you have a wake lock. Either Samsung devs smoked something really crazy when they released this update, or Android 13 has a broken doze mode. I don't think it's the latter! The bets are open!

Help reinstalling edge panels

I previously deleted edge panels on my Samsung phone, but now I want to reinstall it. When I use the command:
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.cocktailbarservice it does show up in settings. But when I try to enable it, nothing happens.
Is there another package that needs to be reinstalled or did I just completely break the function.
Welcome to XDA.
Factory reset will fix it

That cocktail service one is needed for one if memory serves me correctly.
Anything with "egde" in it.

You're welcome, hope this helps.
This is on a N10+ running on Pie. In Android 10 and above there may be more "egde" system apps added to preserve functionality.
Beware of uninstalling the numerous Samsung system apps unless you know exactly what they do. Target the resource and power hogs; most just sit there unless called upon and use very little resources. Many modify the UI and as such are useful.

I was careful when uninstalling. I just didn't think I'd have a use for edge panels. I guess I'll just have to factory reset :/

Probably best to find the root cause rather than factory reset if possible as otherwise the issue will likely reoccur. Go into settings, do a search for "edge panel", see if it pulls it up and if it opens. It can be less than straight forward at times when setting it up.
The Edge cut/paste panel is real handy, and the Smart select panel.
The app names can be sometimes misleading as well or have dependencies you use.
I block about 80 packages. I'm still adjusting my list. I've had this N10+, still running on Pie for over 3 years and still find features I didn't know about or forgot about. Factory loaded Gookill apps are some of the worst offenders... it's not just Samsung.
