Question Xperia overheating problem - Sony Xperia 1 IV

Hello. I am following user experiences with this phone and lately i have saw that many people have started to complain about its overheating thing. I have almost bought this phone recently but after i saw that this is maybe not i software issue but more likely hardware i pulled back. Is it really so overheating that cant use in normal basis and maybe there was an update and issue fixed?

Welcome to XDA
You probably should hold off until the dust settles... if it ever does.
Variable refresh rate displays have been nothing but trouble. Android 11 and especially 12 are no blessing either.
Expensive hand warmers are getting popular it seems.

I do like to hear fresh current user experiences from I IV users. I heard that in USA there have been an update who fixed this problem.
I have Xperia 1 II and would like to buy 1 IV because there is i good deal. I dont want to miss it.

Hi, i posted here* my experience (notice it has been updated to firmware 64.0.A.5.71 (Europe) since that post (before was 64.0.A.5.27) , and as it was the 12th July , i didnt get enough time to check if there were some improvements for the heat worry with video/photo .
Also since i had been suggested by sony support to do a "software fix/repair" (translated from french) with the Xperia Companion App , rather than a factory reset .
i am not willing to do that because as you may know , for none-rooted devices only google Backup is available and not all google Apps will be restored with their settings (parameters, logins, passwords) , it depends on developpers choices, so, as i had already to do that for migrating from my Samsung S20 to Xperia I.IV , i spent 3 days to set/fix all apps (only 90/250 wre fully restored)

You're best off if you can find the root cause or a work around for the issue(s).
Updates may make matters worse and change the playing field which means more of your time to relearn it and new issues to find workarounds for
Play with it. Eventually you'll likely track it down.
This N10+ is still running well on Pie. Current load is over 2 yo, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. Once optimized this is what Android is capable of... no need to upgrade or update. Security isn't an issue unless you do something stupid on Android 9 and higher.
I use ApkExport to make installable copies of all my apps including system apks. I use apps that support full backup data like Poweramp and ColorNote.
There may be a more recent version; not sure if this will run on Android 11 and up. Still works on 10 I believe.

Ok thks i'll have on look on that useful suggestion , i have been also a fan of poweramp since their beginings and had paid for the pro version before it became free

You're welcome.
My Samsung Note 10+ experience is an example of why you want to work it through. Learn, and use the tools available to troubleshoot the issues. After you play with it for a while it's idiosyncrasies start making sense. Upgrade/update only if really needed and is a well researched decision. I think Android 9 was the OS's zenith. Android 12 isn't pretty and 13 looks like a complete disaster so far.
I paid for Poweramp too, no regrets it's the best.
I use ColorNote for my bookmarks. You can hyperlink directly to the webpage from ColorNote. I firewall block ColorNote however just to be on the safe side. It auto backs up to my SD card

Hi just got today from Sony support : "
We have just released a maintenance software update to address heat buildup and improve image quality when shooting with the telephoto lens.
The update will be available from August in Europe (update availability may vary by region and carrier). It is always recommended to update your device with the latest software available."

Hi, i tested and saw no great improvment so far : before, using Video Pro [dont know the name in English , translated from french, but not the Movie Pro(with venice settings etc)]
with last but one firmware between 12' and 15' of video (indoor, not moving, pointed to my TV playing a movie) T° around 30°C) then stops ; with latest firmware 18'
i am using the default settings (see capture) but perhaps mine is definitively a faulty unit

If you cannot deal with the overheating, just return the phone. Sony will not be able to solve the lack of heat sink with software update and give us the full power of the 8 gen 1 chip. This phone should have been designed at least as thick as the camera units on it, including a bigger battery and a proper vapour chamber heat sink to utilize this chip to its full potential. I am a sony user since 2005 some sony devices are good some are better, some are totally junk. There is only one phone currently that did a proper job. "ZTE nubia REDMAGIC 7 5G Gaming Phone"

Will give it a try thanks After playing around with the phone for several hours I can say it is really a beast thats worth the money, haven't tried the waterproof feature yet as it has open ports like the mini usb so I am bit scared to wet the phone on purpose but the IR works like a charm with my ac, need to find a new app though cause the one supplied with the phone is in chinese :s
huge step from my galaxy s i9000 which was running terribly slow

I got mine off ebay for a little less than 250EUR and shipping did not take very long
@Rikku
Please update us if you were able to make it work!
I tried myself and it didn't
Thanks!
i also bought it from ebay and then discovered that seller " prospectivesalesman " is pandawill.com
well i got it yesterday mini review : couldnt find the remote control app until now . it works fine and u can guess what chinese words mean by try and error method i ll try one by one other IR apps i find , most for HTC ONE or GALAXY S 4 though . i think and hope stock app will be translated to english when update comes. i can confirm waterproof works . just make sure that both 3.5 jack and back cover are well closed - no gaps. micro usb is water resistant so dont worry . then u can blow air in micro usb port so that drops of water come out and u can charge it. screen works with wet fingers confirmed design wise , beautiful , great screen , angles and under sunlight with no problems. fast and responsive . camera not perfect but preety good . could detect like 6 heads-persons warm colors , terrible digital zoom , and zoom after shoot u loose much detail . its real 13.1 , and good for low light (bsi) , great video (dont zoom while u shoot video or it seems like earthquake ) . led flash bright enough . trying to use browser with my H+ 3G data is a pain in the ass ... it seems my phone preferes wi-fi . something about proxy and veryfication errors problems ... anyone can help? i can use 3g with apps like weather update or facebook but not browser ! i ll try more browsers than just stock. a problem can be battery drain as well K3V2E with A9 architecture is hungry . im really pleased all in all . as for root http://www.needrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/HUAWEI_Honor3_HN3-U01.7z try this rom , the old one, u can find it at needrom site if links not allowed. i think its rooted . i flashed the updated that its not rooted , 2 new apps , 360mobilesafe and AirSharing Cast , and new battery icon with % and everything else seems the same . it says Gapps include – No rooted – Multilang BUT no gapps and just english+chinese like original rom. solution for gapps , install latest android market - google play apk , then u can log in your google account , download youtube and gmail . contacts synch is a problem , i restored them using a backup . u can use another app instead of stock that can synch with google. so to sum up
built quality 10/10
design 9/10
camera 8/10
battery 5/10
Display 10/10
sound 10/10 loud and clear. Earphones-speaker[dts!]-mic all perfect
speed 7/10 (some lag on high graphics games)
gps 10/10 fastest iv seen . 16 sat see, 10 in use ,indoors next to a window
Wi-fi receiption is also awesome . I have stable signal without drops where i didnt with other smartphones/netbook/tablet
1658 mb of Ram! Not 2gb (but its more than enough)
New great ota update i post sc

edit: chrome works fine with H+ data. I think firefox and UC Browser dont they need wifi
edit 2 : ok Authentication via proxy server was unsuccessful error , solved by deleting "proxy" field on my mobile network - access point settings i left it empty instead of 10.10.10.10 it also seems battery improves with every charge
Ps don't use speaker while fully underwater let's say don't listen to music in the sea without earphones
worth the money , it seems more like a 450 dollars phone , not 330 one
New OTA Firmware update (third so far i confirm better battery , less drain and better sound quality with earphones , more bass)
a waterproof test here at: http://youtu.be/mMnUhIWPlys
new update as for 11/26/13 , now im at B118SP01 :
better camera , no more mess with homescreen-launcher and double ,over lapped icons , a tip about waterproof feature
B119 no idea what fixes
I agree, awesome phone. Latest firmware seems what unstable though. I hope they release android 4.3 or 4.4 soon.
My network is not being registered. MIUI is still not out. Is there any other custom rom? Or anyway to change country/network which shows CN now.
Got this phone of geekbuying for 254€
Must say it's a great phone.
some things that bothered me so far:
- battery performance (less than a day on average use)
- the remote IR app is completly in chinese
but i can confirm it's waterproof, i took a shower with it
just rooted it... and wondering what else i could do to improve the battery?
L.
Same here. Battery is the same as the one in my previously owned Honor 2 but seems to drain faster on this phone...
I've posted MIUI V5 for this model http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548164

After months of usage, I can confirm! never tested its fully waterproof function except in a little bit of rain and its is also scratch proof. Drooped my phone a couple of time, I don't have any covers and still no scratches on the back or on the screen.
Excellent phone. The only thing I don't really like is IR application is in Chinese and there is not English version yet (although I managed to get my tv, surround and ac to work with trail and error).

Pros over P9 plus:
Handy size 5.1inch screen
curved edge screen/pebble shape
2k screen
front finger scanner with navigation controls
New eye & face scanner/infra red camera for access & privacy
Frame sensor for hand recognition
Fast charging (70% in 20 mins)
(Some contextual aware features which most likely will not work outside China)
New Variant UI that will be developed differently from EMUI, with more youth and innovation centric.
Cons:
Not Leica branded lens and photo processing
No external memory card
Huawei branding (530$ is high for a budget branded "Honor" phone)
P9 plus has larger screen & larger battery
No pressure touch screen (Google has their software alternative though)
No stereo speakers
No changes:
12mp dual camera (not the 20mp of mate 9)
Kirin 950
Amoled Screen
If the magic has the newer Kirin 960 (LPDDR4+UFS2.1 Flash memory + Mali G71MP8) i would have gone for it without a thought. But now its not so easy. The whole front finger print sensor and eye scanner features makes it very tempting for me as when im at my work desk having to put password every time is such a pain. The P9 plus still looks very gorgeous, slim and premium and love it design wise while the Honor magic design looks pretty cool, radical & futurish. Im not a camera guy so not really important for me to have that latest best of the best camera.
Would you take the risk and go for honor Magic now or patient enough to wait another 6-8 months for the p10 which would have the Kirin 960, top notch camera, eye scanner, front finger print and bluetooth 5.0 but with more hefty price tag.

Has fast charging though. If the 2k screen on the 2900mah can last a day with no worrying about, then a 30 minute charge is not a problem for me personally. The p9 plus for me is caught in between as it lasts like 1 and half day and has to be charged every day as well to keep up that other half day.
If fast charging works on the same chipset. It will work also on P9 Plus with the same specs.

Yes you can for sure. All EMUI phones can. We usually use the pre-installed Huawei appstore to download playstore.
Also read this thread here for a general idea of what to expect on software side on a China version phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/help/to-vie-al10-t3386700
Thanks for the reply, from your experience, do you think there will be a hong kong version of the magic, or even a upgrade version with the 960 chipset to support simultaneous 4G/3G on both sim, just like the current Mate 9, or may be a 128GB version, as i'm not sure how huawei markets their phones, release one now, and a upgrade version afterwards.
Also are most bloatware deletable or allow to be disable on huawei phone.

Very very unlikely they will bring a Kirin 960. Any variant will be just a color and memory variant at max (Even color and memory variant they for now neither confirm nor deny it). If Magic was a hit they would likely bring a big size version of the phone with pumped up specs in 6-8months after release of Huawei P10. I still have no idea why they decided to go for K950 as it is such a weird choice for a 2k screen phone marketed as the future phone. Have to see the performance in hand. The honor 8 had good reviews, so maybe they wanted to continue and feel confident with all their optimizations, and also maybe to not cut down sales of Mate 9.
News sites mention Honor looking for partners like facebook to make Honor magic release in India possible. So might see in HonkKong as well. Although i also feel it could be a bit too late if it was not planned already.
As far as i read, the magic is dual sim and 4g in the sense that you can with software settings switch around which one sim uses 4g while other sim remaims on 2g. So both cannot be on 4g at same time but you can switch between sims by settings.
Yes most bloatware deletable, except for a couple of Huawei apps.

I spoken to a friend who works for Huawei, he hasn't heard about the magic, but did say that it will not be available in Hong Kong for sure, Hong Kong has stopped selling Huawei Honor series for a good few years now, and has concertrated on the P series and Mate, mid range phones like the honor series won't be available, so my only choice is to buy it direct from china, hopefully they do sell them locally from a authorized store, as I don't buy phones through online, although I do know you can get the magic from 4 huawei authorised online site. So once I get to see this phone in person I will get it on the 9th of next month.

Yes It might be on stores but from resellers with price inflated by 300-500 CNY im guessing. The most preferred option for you might be if you have a friend in China who can order it online and you can collect it since you will visit China anyway.
I ordered one early from Aliexpress re sellers at 642$ (21% increase from original price which is high and won't recommend for everyone) as a preorder with a basic non-quick 3 week shipping. The resellers on Aliexpress have now inflated the price to ridiculous 750 to 900$. I will get my phone from the 1st batch which they are only receiving in past couple days. The second batch is being sold online on 1st of January i think.
There is a dedicated forum here now btw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/magic

LG G6 is now included in Android Enterprise program. Oreo update imminent.

And on Android Enterprise site it shows G6 official OS is Android 8.0.0
AndroidEnterprise
UPDATE:
Looks like it will go straight to 8.1
Source
.
That could be a game changer if it was announced at the start. But, everyone knows they will give people 1 major and maybe 2 security update then, they keep promising for next major update as they did at G4 but that next major version will never come out globally. I see this news as "meh".
Plus, "LG Electronics USA, Inc. today announced that the LG V30 and LG G6 premium smartphones available in the United States will earn "Android Enterprise Recommended" approval in a new Google-led program, following an upgrade to Android 8.1."
Can we assume it will stay as a local feature and will never go global?
I think it's global since they came out with this in Poland too.

I don't know whether or not this would apply to the United States too, but LG Canada says March 2 - 9 for the Oreo update.

So according to the program we all should known the truth around 5th of April.( or earlier)
One requisit is to have adt least one unlockeable version, so the usa unlocked version and european h870 are likely to enter for sure to this program.
The program means also that security updates are issued each at most 90 days.

Just kidding, I wish this stuff was 100% true. We will see. Fingers crossed.
Let's see then, I sure hope for a timely and bug free (hello samsung) update to 8.0.

I'm a little bit skeptical about the reality of this. Right now it's good publicity for the phones without them having to actually do anything. The G6 is almost a year old and if it never gets beyond 8.0 or even if it gets dropped from the list after 6 months because of not complying with some part of it, no big deal for them because it's late in the phone's lifecycle anyway.
If it bumps up sales enough that they will show it some more update love, great. But the G6 faces the same uphill battle in the enterprise as they do with the consumer and I don't think there's any compelling reason a big enterprise would choose it over the latest Samsung or iphone (smaller companies might choose it based on cost).

I am sure Google had some chat with LG on the matter before including G6 on the list. I am also sure that LG cares about bothering Google with some cheap tricks. It's not that LG cares about you or me but they surely care about Google. I also hope that Google doens't just do free false advertising in LG behalf, they are a bit cleverer than this. The relationship LG-Google is not about G6 being late in it's lifecycle but about all the next phones. After all Google "guarantees" for LG in front of a lot of very serious clients (businesses). That's rather big deal.
it's sad how LG went from being the fastest to update their phones to now one of the slowest. I remember getting Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat so quickly on the G4, G5, and V10. Now LG is slower than Samsung, which is the worst/slowest updater. Samsung re-released Oreo for the S8 in Europe. Oreo was released 6 months ago (August 21, 2017). Google will announce Android P before we get Oreo on the G6. I guess LG's restructuring of the cell phone department deprioritized OS updates in addition to annual device releases.

---------- Post added at 02:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:39 PM ----------
Today (21 feb) Google has launched a new program called Android Enterprise Recommended. It's a way for businesses to easily choose Android devices to deploy for their employees. To be Android Enterprise Recommended, a handset has to adhere to a strict set of rules.
It must run Android 7.0 Nougat or later, offer zero-touch enrollment with bulk deployment to employees, get the latest security patches within 90 days of their release for a minimum of three years, be available unlocked, and offer a consistent app experience in managed profiles and on managed devices.
Furthermore, it must come with a minimum of 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, a 1.4 GHz processor, 8+ hours of active battery life, a 10 MP main camera and 2 MP selfie shooter, and be updated to at least one major new Android version.
To start things off, the Android Enterprise Recommended list of devices comprises the following: Google's Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL; the BlackBerry Keyone and Motion; Huawei's Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P10, P10 Plus, P10 Lite, and P smart; LG's V30 and G6; the Moto X4 and Z2; the Nokia 8; Sony's Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, XZ Premium, XA2, and XA2 Ultra.
As you can see, it's not all flagships, there are a few mid-rangers for eager enterprises to choose from too. More phones should be added to the list in the coming weeks and months. Google says that by the end of the year it will also apply the Android Enterprise Recommended framework to OEMs of dedicated and rugged devices, mobile carriers, enterprise mobility management providers, and systems integrators.
The company is probably hoping to entice device makers with this program to adhere to its rules and thus be featured on the brand new Android Enterprise Recommended website, something that will hopefully lead to more sales of those models.

If ur thinking between note 7 and mi a3 then mi a3 is better overall, note 7 just has a sharper display but that's not u gonna notice its fine while the a3 display is amoled, mi a3 has better camera sensor sony on mi a3 and samsung on note 7 and a3 has a extra camera too. But not exactly a huge upgrade so stick with note 7

Go for Motorola One Vision instead : fullHD+ non PWM, NFC, camera optical stabilization, splash proof, ...
MI A3 has the worst display I ever saw in my life. Oversaturated, low-res, pentile, heavy PWM. Did buy it from eshop, so I did not know what I'm getting into.

The size is great. Display resolution is quite low, but no disaster, you can get used to it quite quickly (I would advise to use OLED Saver app to skip PWM brightness control though). It certainly would look nicer with FHD resolution, but battery would take a hit (and possibly it would increase the phone size as well). With HD the battery life is very good (e.g. 35% left after 3 days with 6 hours of screen on time - Chrome, Youtube,..).
So far I stumbled upon 2 issues:
- 2G and 3G data doesn't seem to be working, only 4G. I'm not the only one with this problem, users from different locations report it. Hopefully will get fixed in the next update, even if it doesn't impact everybody.
- LED notification doesn't seem to be working for every app (e.g. Gmail works, Google messages not)
I have the EU variant with EU ROM.
If you're coming from MIUI, bare Android system might not be to your liking. Be sure that you are ok with missing features of MIUI (although most of them can be replicated with some effort).

Do not listen to those trolls. Trust me, the display is ___CATASTROPHIC___. It is the only phone which uses this particular display, and I think the last also. Don't make the same mistake as I did. MI A1 was great, A2 was also good, but A3 is disaster.

- I don't have any issues with 2G/3G data.
- Though LED notifications are definitely not working for all apps (hopefully it will be fixed in future updates).
- FOD is not the fastest. I have an anecdotal issue with unlocking when my fingers are clean and dry (I more inclined to think it's due to dryness). One would expect issues with reading when sensor/fingers are dirty
- Display resolution and pixel density are not that bad as some ppl complain, but if it's a top requirement for you I would go in-store and have a look on it, played with brightness, read some text, etc before buying.

Do not buy the Mi A3, you will regret it everytime you use it. Most ppl will not admit that their new phone was a very bad buy - they are in denial (you can observe that in this thread).
Lol. The only thing most ppl can observe is that you cannot accept the loss of $160 on the wrong purchase.
I want Q and custom rom support. :fingers-crossed: Is the display really that bad?
Nope. But any review is subjective. If you're uncertain go in-store and take a look on it. Or take on risk, buy it and accept a potential loss of 156 USD (current price of 4/64 unit on Ali) on a device not meeting your expectations.

Axon 40 Ultra

Since there's no thread for the Axon 40 ultra yet at the time of posting, so I'll post my query here.
The Axon 40 ultra which was just released recently has the specifications that matches my needs...
> Primary 64MP cam with a large 1/1.3" sensor and excellent low light capability with an aperture size of f/1.6. Xiaomi barely goes below f/1.8 even in their high end phones like the 11 Ultra, and the 12 Ultra will definitely not add that large aperture. Gcam with this main camera would kill the competition in low light
> Front facing camera which is under display. It may not be that impressive, but at least I have the full status bar to myself. Had the Zenfone 6 earlier, and the Zenfone 8 doesn't impress me, so I skipped it.
> 5000mah battery with 80w charging. Currently only a handful of phones have this charging speed with 5000mah battery. Most of the phones have 4500mah batteries with 120 or 150w charging which is useless as what they should be doing is adding 10000mah batteries with those charging speeds.
The other specs with a less importance includes 512GB with USB C 3.1 which will enable speedy transfers to the PC, 144Hz display, 6.8 inches large display size (I would prefer 7 inches too these days with 20:9 or even 21:9 aspect ratio). I'm also expecting a speedy 5G modem which supports between 3 to 5Gbps download speeds and aren't mentioned on GSMArena.
So my question is... Will there be any good Custom ROM development on this phone? From what we can see, there's not a single Custom ROM for the Axon 30 Ultra, and it was launched in April last year. I wonder if it's due to unimpressive specs, or that no developer is interested in these phones.
This phone has great potential due to the impressive spec sheet. It would be a shame if there's no development on it.

There's a lot of reasons why devs are not making roms for ZTE phones. Thing is with ZTE phones are they're not popular. They're not easy to purchase(well for their flagships, their low end phones are everywhere though) alleged Chinese security things that has been reported, I think they're still blacklisted in the US just like Huawei, I think. Their marketing sucks hence nobody has interest in their phones even if they have great specs. I think they're not even popular in China. Lastly, potential devs doesn't have nor plans to buy their phones, that's why nobody is making any roms for their phones. Now there are solutions for that. You can make your own rom for the phone or if you know a dev and he's willing to make a rom as long as you buy him that particular ZTE phone, because I doubt he's gonna buy a phone that doesn't interest him.
That's why before I buy a phone, I make sure to research first if the phone has lots of devs making tons of roms for that particular phone, so that I can be assured that my phone can last a long time.
Btw. Somebody already tried to make a gofundme and willing to pay a dev to make a lineageOS port for the Axon 30 and nobody replied. That just shows you that ZTE phones are not that popular and even if somebody was willing to pay, nobody is touching it.

Sorry I'm late. Yes it's a shame that ZTE stopped bootloader unlocking for their Axon phones. The phone would've been great had they allowed it.
Fortunately, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus has an unlockable bootloader, and I'm hoping the X80 Pro Plus gets the same too. The X80 pro already has some great features and the Pro Plus which will probably be released with Snapdragon 8+G1 and possibly a larger battery, say 5000 mah with the same 80w charging.
Vivo barely allows bootloader unlocking for their previous phones. I hope they allow bootloader unlocking by default for their new high end phones.

Hello,
I dont really know where to begin here so, hopefully someone on here can help. I have the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, the Chinese version. I flashed android 13 beta 1 on the phone but, it has no google apps on it at all. I downloaded google play services apk, Google Play store and Gmail. None of them seem to work and it sounds like it all has to do with play services. Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
How to make applications ignore the under-screen camera. The screen in games constantly shifts below the under-screen camera area. In the developer options in the zte axon 40 ultra, I did not find such an option to fix this. Maybe someone knows how to help me?

Which UI languages are present? How good is English locale?
There are many UI languages present. German is not bad only the camera app is not translated very well!

About the cameras, worse or better than your Vivo X80 pro?
That is Not an easy question. I would say Tele and night shots are a little Bit better in the X80 Pro but Not so much. Portraits are perhaps better on the ZTE....
