Question Possible to downgrade included app (YouTube) to earlier version than is included in Android 13 factory image? - Google Pixel 6

Youtube version is 17.17.37
My understanding is that this is the version included in Android 13 factory image for P6. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier version? So far I am experiencing failed installs using earlier .apks. I assume this is because it was an app included in the factory image? IS there a workaround?
I am rooted and stock, FWIW

I used magisk module "debloater" to uninstall apps like YouTube.
After, you should be able to install a lower version.
[MODULE][Terminal] Debloater v17.3.2 - Debloat Systemlessly!
[TERMINAL] DEBLOATER Debloat your phone Systemlessly! Debloating can sometimes be device specific. OEM apps can sometimes be a trash to a user but not to the other. So I decided to make a module to Customize the uninstallation of a system app...

You have to force YouTube to a user app instead of a system app.
Then you can uninstall the updated (installed) version.
Rooted with Magisk you can use a module to kick YouTube to a user app.
I made a module awhile back to do just this.
Replace System YouTube - [GitHub] - Link
Not sure if the module will work as is with a13.
You might need to adjust it a bit to work with a13.
Cheers.
Edit:
PS.
Just checked.
Seems everything is still the same on a13.
So I did a quick test on my Pixel 5a, no issues.

will this cause issues with next OTA update? would I have to reverse the process in any way before taking it? disable or remove the module?
also is there a version for YouTube Music?

hi I'm trying to solve this problem on pixel 7 pro. i'm not sure I understand what this module does? you mention in this post it kicks it to a user app, but on the github page it says it just overwrites the existing youtube apk with zero bytes?

Apologize for the delay.
I did not intend to ignore your question, it just got lost in my list of replies.
As for OTA updates, it should not affect anything.
I never tested with an OTA update. I download the full version and use fastboot to update.
If you disable the module it will revert back to the newer system version.
The older version that you installed, will be uninstalled.
---
As for a YTMusic version..
I never needed one but, it would be easy to do the same.
Should have time this weekend to look into it.
Cheers.

When an app is included in system (app, priv-app, product, ...).
Newer versions get installed into userdata, regardless if it is an update from PlayStore or manually installed.
Both will be found and the newer version will be loaded.
You can only uninstall the update (userdata) version since system is read-only.
It will revert back to loading the version in system.
By replacing the system app version with zero byte file(s), the system version can not be loaded.
This leaves only the version that is installed in userdata.
It is then treated the same as any other user app.
If you uninstall the version in userdata, it will be gone since there is no system version available to load.
Cheers.

Any chance for a version of this for OOS13? System YouTube Music resides in /my_bigball/app/YTMusic/YTMusic.apk

If you are rooted you can use the “let me downgrade” module

Not sure off hand but, it should be able to be modified to include yet another OnePlus directory.
I checked on my 7T (Android 12) and it was in
/my_bigball/del-app-pre/YTMusic_del/YTMusic.apk
So it let me just uninstall it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I found a (renewed) 9 Pro a few days ago.
Should be here by the end of next week and I test more then.
Cheers.

[TOOL] Jmz Fire HD 7 Tool GApps/Disable Amazon Launcher, Ads on Lockscreen, and OTAs

This is a simple app to install GApps and disable items on your Kindle. This was tested on Fire HD 7 4th gen. I do not know the status on HD 6. but in theory it should work just fine. It doesn't make any MAJOR changes to where it would cause a non-booting system.
But with all things in the development world, you are taking a risk. I have tested this about 10 times on my own tablet.
Obviously, you need root for this. The only known way to root is via KingRoot.
The GApps install is a very minimal install to /system that fully works. It is no different than flashing a GApps package in recovery. I am also disabling updates for Play Store and Play Services. The method used is the ones referenced a few times in this forum. I am unable to find the original finder of this information so if you find the original source I will link that content appropriately.
Download Here
The safe way to disable ads on lockscreen and still use profiles or FreeTime is to run this command on every boot. "chmod 000 /data/securedStorageLocation/dtcp/adunits"
Changelog:
v4: Fixed backwards logic in BootReciever to block or unblock ads on boot. Thanks @DoLooper for pointing out the bug
v3: Updated Gapps with combination found by @AlbusAngelus and the casting libs needed he found. Changed the layout to more material design
v2: Found bug with button not showing enabled. Found MAJOR bug with the pm block method of disabling ads on lockscreen. Found workaround
v1: Original Release

Nice tool! I would test it if I had not done everything manually. With GAPPS, do you block updates to Google Play Services by creating a directory in /data/app in order to keep version 6.0.99 which works?

Yes it allows you to renable each of those.
As for the Play Store. The version being installed is 5.5.8. the Google Services Framework is 4.0.4. I am looking into ways to make updates work. There is no reason why updates shouldn't work.

Its the one that I could get working. Using updated ones, I only got white play store with loading screen. Unless you have a combination that works with more updated ones.

Are you saying with your combo you can let them update and they work?
Framework 4.4.4
Store 5.5.12
Play Services 7.0.99 - 034 --- Edit
Account Manager 4.4.4
This seems to work if you block updates for the store and services. The only issues I'm running into now is chromecast has stopped working correctly, and I had it working fine before root, and after initial root. Once I put playstore on it seemed to stop.

Well the setup I listed works okay without the white loading screen. If chrome cast works on the older stuff though I'm going to go ahead and roll it all back and freeze it there. Chrome cast functionality is pretty vital, as my Kindle was basically being used as a movie streamer, before the root break through. Thanks for checking into chrome cast!

Don't get me wrong. I don't have that white loading issue with my tool. Only if I tried to update past what exists in my tool.
Just something I can think of is download the 4.4 gapps package like you would on AOSP and find the cast lib file and push it to /system/lib and see if that fixes it. I think it is libgcast.so. not 100% on that though. I know for a fact it has cast in the name

Is it possible to replace the bundled/default apps?

I know I can download new apps and make them the default but what I am wondering is if I could completely delete some of the stock/bundled apps that come with the phone with different versions.
For example, instead of Huawei's Contacts or Dialer or SMS applications, I want to use the Google provided ones (assuming they are compatible)
[Google Play URL]/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer
[Google Play URL]/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.contacts
[Google Play URL]/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging
Is this do-able? If so, how?
I am using the US version of Honor 8 that has been unlocked and rooted and running Android 6.0, if that matters.

There is something similar in EMUI 4 as well but all that does is make a new app the default. It doesn't get rid of the bundled apps from the system.
What I want to do is get rid of them completely from the system, so that there are no traces of them.

Install Magisk 11.1 from your custom recovery (11.1 is the only one that works right now).
Flash the linked zip from your custom recovery
This is a Magisk module I created to replace the Dialer, Messages, Calendar, and Contacts with the Google versions. It also replaces the stock Gallery with QuickPic. Like any other Magisk module, if you want to go back to stock, just disable the module and reboot.

Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. :good:
I don't know much about Magisk but is this compatible with any version of Honor 8? Or is limited to specific models? I have the US version (FRD-L04 running Android 6.0).
Also how easy is to modify this? For example, instead of using QuickPic, I would like to use Google Photos. I would also like to replace the Calculator, Clock, Email apps with the Google versions. Is that (easily) do-able?

To answer your question, I'll give a brief answer on what Magisk does. Magisk stores all the mods to /system/ in a disk image on the /data/ partition. It injects itself early in the boot process to mount the Magisk image and mount/symlink the mods over top of your /system/ partition. This allows the end user to effectively modify /system/, without actually modifying /system/ -- the actual underlying stock files are untouched.
Conceptually this mod is compatible with all Honor 8 models -- at worst, it will add the Google versions in addition to the stock versions. In my zip I mount the new versions over top of the Huawei stock apps which is what "replaces" them.
It's pretty easily do-able to mod the zip. Just follow the instructions in config.sh and you should be good to go. Install App Inspector from the Play Store to find the install directory of the system apps you want to replace -- either in /system/app/ or /system/priv-app/ and note what they're named. From there, just drop the APK's you want into the proper folder in the zip, update the REPLACE directories as needed in the config, and then load it into Magisk. If a stock app you're replacing has library folders inside the app directory, you have to explicitly name that folder in config.sh so that it mounts over the entire folder instead of a merge-mount.
You may not be able to replace the stock Email client though since I think that will break the email intent service. But worst case scenario, just toggle your module off and keep editing it until it works the way you want. In the case of system apps that aren't tightly integrated, like the Calculator, I'd recommend just mounting a blank folder over top of the system app (essentially disabling it) and then installing your preferred calculator from the Play Store (RealCalc is what I use).

Kind of new to the rooting/tweaking scene, so I wasn't aware I had other options. I went through most of the threads in the Honor 8 forum and there weren't a lot of mentions of how to uninstall the system apps. That's what led me to ask the question in the first place.
Titanium Backup looks cool. What would the benefit be between using Titanium Backup vs. Magisk?

See titanium backup and Magisk r 2 completely different things.
So using Magisk u can use a module which can help u but if u want to edit it it gets complex. Magisk is like SuperSU on steroids. So it's main function is to provide root without modifying system so that Safetynet is bypassed. It also provides system-less modules to get more functionality.
Titanium backup is an app which can perform various functions with root access. Like backing up apps and their data or uninstalling system ones or moving apps to the SD card etc.
But if all u want is to uninstall system apps and if u already have SuperSU then just install this app: https://goo.gl/hK4n5H
It will simply uninstall the applications u select. Also once u uninstall the apps reboot ur phone.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! This is the first time I've looked at rooting/tweaking my phone, so I am learning a lot in a short time. :good:
Anyways, my intent is to have as close to a stock ROM as possible and until the custom ROMs stabilize, I thought I could get rid of the stock apps (such as Clock, Contacts, Dialer, etc.) and replace them with the Google version from the Play Store. Secondly, I also wanted to get rid of the unnecessary Google stuff and flash OpenGApps just to have the bare minimum.
For the first, @Telperion gave a Magisk module that he had written for himself to do exactly that but based on what you described, it sounds like I could just install Titanium Backup and uninstall those apps myself. That might be easier to do.
For the second part, there was a script @ganeshbiyer wrote to uninstall all the Google apps (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...-apps-list-t3521225/post71093292#post71093292) but I couldn't get it to work.
For the second part, there was a script @ganeshbiyer wrote to uninstall all the Google apps (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...apps-list-t3521225/post71093292#post71093292) but I couldn't get it to work. But if I understand you correctly, I should be able to do that with Titanium Backup as well.

Yup all can be done with Titanium Backup.
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
TB fully removes/replaces the apps -- this might be desirable, but might not be. It's hard to go back and forth between the two once you uninstall.
Magisk mounts over top of the old ones so you get all the benefit without any actual changes to /system/ -- this is more flexible and more desirable for some users.
Personally, I think Magisk and other systemless mods are the future of custom tweaks so I'd suggest that if you think you'll be a tinkerer, learn Magisk modules and do it that way. Ultimately though it's preference.

Hey @Telperion,
I ran this module and it seemed to work OK for the most part. The Dialer, Messages, Calendar and Contacts all updated properly. But QuickPic doesn't seem to work though. I see that it's installed but when I try to open the app, it just closes and takes me back to the home screen. Any ideas on what might have happened?

Strange, that happened to me in the first version of my zip, I set it as a merge-mod and for some reason the existing libraries in the /Gallery2/ folder cause QuickPic to crash. When I set it to 'overwrite' /system/priv-app/Gallery2 which made the libraries disappear, then QuickPic launched normally.
Do you have QuickPic currently installed from the Play Store? If so, uninstall first.
Update: Looked over the zip, it looks good. Try downloading and flashing the mod again, perhaps from Recovery this time (if you added from UI the first go-round). Let me know how that goes.

No, I don't have QuickPic installed from the store. I ran the update on the stock device, before I even set up by Google account on it. And I did flash it from TWRP recovery, so I don't believe that is the issue either. But I'll try again and let you know if it works.

DKB-TAN2go app on rooted device

On Angler (Nexus 6p) I flashed the latest stock rom. (After a complete wipe) Afterwards I flashed TWRP and unzipped Magsik. Subsequently I did update to the latest version. After that I changed the packagename of Magsik manager. Furthermore I installed Xposed framework. Afterwards I enabled root hide for the TAN app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.starfinanz.mobile.android.dkbpushtan&hl=en
This software is meant to give you the tan without using sms services.
Still, the app crashed right at the start without any error notification. Android Version is 8.1 and Magsik is v16. While I did the test, the bootloader was unlocked and TWRP was still the recovery. Can these two things affect the verification of the Banking app? I tried this several times ago in the past, but I was never to make this app running.
If anyone would be able to give helpful advice here, it would be very much appreciated.
Best,
scarline
I have heard that DKB Tan2Go does not work with newer Android versions like Oreo 8.1.x at all.
I can also confirm that. I tried it on a Sony cellphone. The cellphone was not rooted and with a completely new and 'clean' ROM. It was to no avail.
A friend has been forced to buy a chip reader. I am fortunate to be able to use normal TAN lists at the moment. If the DKB tries to exclude me from online banking, I will change the bank.
DKB Tan2Go seems to be one of the worst and most insecure apps ever. The reviews in Google PlayStore confirm this conclusion.
Maybe there will be a solution someday?
DKB TAN2go works with Magisk:
1. Install the TAN2go app (but don't open it)
2. Add the TAN2go app in Magsik Manager in the menu "Magisk Hide"
3. Reboot the phone (I don't know if this is necessary)
4. Open TAN2go, works fine.
**** DKB and this stupid security features which bring absoltuely no security.
That's exactly what I tried - without success. I read that it only worked with an old, obsolete version of Tan2Go. However, I could not find this version and I'm not sure if it still works at all. Did you have the latest version of Tan2Go from Google PlayStore? According to DKB, the recent Tan2Go does not work with devices that was once rooted or had a CustomROM. Even if you go back to stock the Root Counter changed and DKB Tan2Go will never work on this device. Unfortunately, I have to confirm that.
I am working on it to change the bank, because of that.

Indeed!
Yes, I have installed the latests version of LineageOS, latest version von Magisk and the latests version of the TAN2go app.
I tried that to no avail. I heard once the root counter has a value other than 0, one can't go back. Probably it is also the Sony bootloader and it is different with other devices?

I have a Xiomi Mi5 rooted with Magisk and Tan2go used to work for the last year or so. But yesterday I tried to make a transaction and BOOM! App crashed without an error message. Tried to use a newer Magisk, tried reinstalling the App, nothing helped.
The worst thing is that I do not know if some of my programs have a battery checker or a screen reader plugin that I am not aware of, or if Tan2Go suddenly detects my root. Regardless, crashing without an explanation is like the worst programming practice ever.
Since I do not need this kind of ****e in my life I will probably change Bank, I mean what good is an internet Bank if you cannot do transactions over your mobile device?
Well, willy-nilly I try to use the only other option from DKB: the German TAN Generator. Every other bank equips you with such a device, if they want you to use it. The DKB does not. Actually, I ordered the 3rd TAN Generator and fully paid for it. The first one drains the battery within days. The second one let me type in all the numbers and for no reason the TAN code does not show up on display.
These devices are very annoying anyway, because you have to type in a lot of numbers for every money transfer, the characters are very small (on the laptop) and you have to carry the TAN Generator + the DKB debitcard all the time. Of course this is less secure.
I would change the bank immediately, but want to keep the Visa credit card. I have higher limits on it. That's the only reason. As soon as I found an alternative bank in Europe, I will leave the DKB for good.
It dont worked with Lineage 14.1 but with 15.1 unoffical build on Samsung S4 together with latest Magisk .Rom from here

Works for me
Just tried again. It hasn't been working for me in the past. When downloading & opening the app, I had the same problems.
Then I simply followed the above advice: downloading the app again, didn't open it, hide with Magisk, reboot and opened the app - worked well and was able to register for tan2go.
I am using Lineage 16.0 and Magisk v18.0
DKB already updated their app - they patched it

The app version from September (version 2.3.0) does work, the newer app version from 4.4.19 (version 2.4.0) does not...
Tested working combination: Magisk 18.0, Magisk Manager 6.1, DKB version 2.3.0
Can confirm that, working with magisk and 2.3.0. Not working anymore with 2.4.0.
I have another Tan app from another bank and with the new version it also stops working. Seems that magisk is now quite to popular and they working on better detection. Magisk hide is useless on the recent version of these tan apps.
That really sucks. No way to get 2.4.0 working. Hoping for a magisk fix. Are the magisk developer informed that there are problems with magisk hide? I think others will have similar problems too.
I successfully got 2.4 working again, after it got updated and refused to start.
Following the steps from this post made it work again (German):
https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/...trotz-magisk.901517-page-2.html#post-11532359
I installed Magisk 19.0 (beta) but contrary to the above mentioned post I left my Magisk modules installed as they were before the update.
Both the Magisk modules as well as TAN2Go 2.4 are now working again.
I had to authenticate the new TAN2Go installation by adding it as a "new device" using SMS verification.
I was not able to get it to run with the above mentioned instuctions.
Device: Nexus 6P (angler), ROM: LineageOS 15.1-20190419, Magisk modules: MagiskHide Props Config (required for ctsProfile test), Busybox for Android NDK (required for MagiskHide Props Config).
DKB Tan2Go crashes immediately when started.
Same for me. The above instruction doesn't work.
Downgrade to 2.3.0
I experienced the same problem. Had to do an important transfer yesterday. And of course Tan2Go-2.4.0 crashed. I'm using Magisk v18.1.
Today I did a downgrade via Aptoide to 2.3.0 and had to register the smartphone again via SMS. This worked without any problems.
To avoid the update problem and keep with 2.3.0:
Start Titanium Backup
Select the DKB Tan2Go App
Long click on the App.
Connect with Google Play Store (forced)
Long click the App again.
Disconnect from Google Play Store
Hope it helps. I don't think there's much to change in the DKB Api. I'll use 2.3.0 until they block it via the API.
If more people confirm the proposed solution with Magisk v19, I'll try it maybe.
I got it working with v2.4.0, but don't know which step was the solution. Switching to the "Canary" channel of Magisk or hiding the Magisk Manager in the settings. I think the last one was the solution.
Can you guys try and give feedback?
Don't forget to uninstall and install the app before testing again.

10.3.2 - Device does not meet the minimum security requirements for this application

Hello, there.
I badly need your assistants. I'm not able to use a bank application as it states as "This device does not meet the minimum security requirements for this application", I flashed patched recovery for Magisk Maanger (7.5.1)& the SafetyNet Check shows as "Success". Both ctsProfile & basicIntegrity is green with true against it.
I repacked the Magisk Manager to different name and enabled Magisk Hide option; also under "Magisk Hide" section, I have enabled the said bank application but still the above said error message popups. I badly want to access this application. I also face same issue with other gov application.
NOTE: I have other bank app which works perfectly by hiding it under "Magisk Hide" section but some Gov & this bank application doesn't work.
Apps use different methods to check for root. Maybe you are having root apps installed which are being checked.
I know that some apps show such a message when you have Titanium Backup installed. I know of other apps, which will show such a message when you have a TWRP folder on your sdcard.
Try using Rootbeer Fresh to check if any check in there fails.
BTW: by looking at the OOS Version 10.3.2 I assume you're not using an OnePlus 7T Pro.

Check your device storage if any folders related to Titanium Backup are still present. Some apps check if those folders exist. Also they might cache the result, so you should delete app data before trying again.

For HD01AA Global : - 10.0.8 (Build version from start 10.0.3 - 10.0.4 - 10.0.5 - 10.0.7 - 10.0.8)

Is there anything to do with Magisk Manager or anything else?

Now in magisk go to magisk hide and tick the app if you haven't. Untick playstore and other Google services. Now go to settings and click Hide Magisk manager. Just name it manager or something other than Magisk.
Now open your banking app with the little blue suitcase.

Starling Bank App - downgrade help

I have a rooted Samsung SG10Exynos/OS9 that bypasses SafetyNet with the help of Magisk 26.0 & safetynet-fix-v2.4.0-MOD_1.2 (meets BASIC INTERGITY) that I have been using the Starling Bank app 2.92.1.79025 without an issue. I stupidly upgraded to the latest version and got the attached screenshot saying that I had 14 days to restore the device to factory settings (I was still able to use the app after pressing ok). I even more stupidly thought that I could revert back to the previous version that I was using, using Titanium Backup which failed (the app would just flash continuous on launch) and then Swift backup (where it would just repeatedly crash even even before being launched requiring a force stop)
If I wipe data/uninstall/restart phone and install fresh from google play, I now get the attached screenshot saying again to restore to factory, but the button says close app. So being a digital bank, I'm now locked out of my account.
I've tried to install previous versions from APKMirror mirror after wiping data/uninstall/restarting phone, and then just restoring my data with my Titanium/Swift backups but still no joy.
Does anyone know how to downgrade/install not the latest version of Starling Bank, which doesn't have the increased STRONG INTERGITY check?

You could try Magisk Delta as it now acts as whitelist so you add only what you want with root. This won't bypass Starling security though. You need to also block address above.

I think the part where I'm stuck is, what would you suggest to block that address? I can't do that in HMA or in Denylist because it doesn't exist.
I've tried blocking in AdAway and manually adding and still getting Starling recognising root.
I've blocked anything Google Play Services, Play Protect, Wallet too. Starling is my main bank. Has only been an issue in the last couple weeks.

I followed the directions in this video.
I didn't do the final step where he renames the Magisk app, seems that it isn't necesary.
The YASNAC app shows that the device passes "Basic integrity" and "CTS profile match".
Also remember that blocking firebaseremoteconfig.googleapis.com might break other apps that use this domain (I've found one so far).

A13 P6 Pro running the April security update 13 (TQ2A.230405.003.E1), Magisk 26101, USNF 2.4.0 Mod 1.2, passing Safetynet Basic+ CTS.
Will look at Magisk Delta next.

It's a recent update that broke it.
Try Magisk 26.1, enable Zygisk and enforce deny list. Add systemless hosts. Add only Starling to the deny list.
Install safetynet fix 2.4.0 mod 1.2 by displax.
Add the domain I posted to adaway blocklist. Make sure its enabled and in root mode.

That's exactly how I have it running now. No change.

It's the domain that did it for me. Working fine as of now.

Thanks for updating. I have both of these in my AdAway too
Code:
firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com
firebaseremoteconfig.googleapis.com
Nothing doing

Clean install for Starling? I'm trying to think if I did something else.
Oh. Have you "hidden" Magisk?
Just to weigh in here, I can confirm blocking:
firebaseremoteconfig.googleapis.com
Does indeed allow the Starling app to work. Yes blocking Firebase is going to stop some applications working, but you could always pause AdAway until you are done using the problematic app then resume AdAway when you want to use Starling.
Many thanks @theoneofgod
Not working
Reverting the Starling app back to version 2.95.1.79953 fixes things - just don't forget to re-add it to the Deny List.
I'll probably stay on this version until a new fix is found for the current version 2.96.0.80202.

Wild, even this didn't work for me. No idea why I'm having issues.
Hi All
Quick update - Can confirm that rolling back to 2.95.1.79953 does fix things for now
This is using adaway to block the Firebase URLs in a custom host file and using enforce denylist. It doesnt work beyond that for now.
I swapped over to Magisk Alpha for now but i dont know what Starling are doing in the background to see that you have root at this point. Its very annoying
- Edit 2
They seem to be detecting the Enforce Denylist in Magisk (In any form)
Disabling it on version 2.95.1 shows the app can see root. Enabling it allows the app to proceed as if you are not rooted.
Give KernelSU a try if you can. No modules or any workarounds required.

Isnt that the same as the setting in magisk that hides root from everything not on the su list. Which also doesnt work.
